Most BASF sealers are like that too, i don't recall the one I used here but i find for what its worth I'd rather just sand it quickly. Most e-coat I find has a few imperfections that i'd rather remove before starting.
if you havent got a spray booth and did this technique..the paint whould dry after 24 hrs..1st coat must be dusted and you will have to see the primer 2nd coat must cover 70% so you should still see the primer ,and 3rd coat has to be full coverage..use a heat gun to dry the paint..will be dry in 15 min.
@jeetkunedoground I find it just puts the material out quicker and it makes it easier to keep a wet edge, the finish is pretty comparable with the W400, the RP seems easier to spray with. They are both great guns. I haven`t heard of the optima 900i, whats the story with it, is that made by Iwata?
Any I've used go on wetter, I always used a drop coat to even out the metallic...our other painter here didn't and seemed to work fine for him. Either way should be fine, force of habit maybe for me. I am pretty sure the way they taught it was with a drop coat after.
@hudfadz waterborne are thicker in consistency even if it's reduced and it dries by the air flow of the booth or dries by a waterborne dry blower. There's no special clear for waterbone, you can use the clear that is used for solvent.
thanks, that's a very clear video. i am going to paint my bicycle and was looking for something that gives me a good idea about pressures. do you think that the pressures that you give would be similar for a much smaller gun? i noticed that you wrote about wet edges; does this mean that the whole coat should be done quickly to avoid them??
very nice man!I can't see the pressure you are using for base coat including the drop coat. And yes SATA 3000 RP is a bad ass gun for the clear I use one myself, probably the best gun outhere
its just safer to do it first so that you don't get any over spray! works for me and its how i was trained by my instructor. their are many diffrent ways to spray a car you just have to find your way i guess.
have you ever heard of the Anest Iwata LVP-400?? It sprays waterbourn solvent and clear like butter with less overspray(material waste) its truly better than Sata and costs less!!!
No way this guy works flat rate. At least now, four years later or whatever, water based is applied much thinner with more coats. As heavy as that was laid down, I bet it took 10 minutes between each coat.
Solvent paints are mostly toxic but dry faster. You would expect spray car paint waterborne to be cheaper but it is about 3 times more expensive at present, but certainly better for the environment, and probably your health. There is not much difference if at all in the finished product. Depending how professional you are.
if he's using Spies Hecker you dont sand or scuff ecoat there sealer binds to it and they warranty it took me along time to get used it. but it sure save time on new parts!
our shop just got switched to axalta brand and water. get this. they say you lay down a wet bed (a clear basecoat) to the whole area to be painted. seal the area that needs it.... put down a heavy coat of color on the area to paint..then right away a fast control coat on top of that as far as the blend needs to go and that's it! 1 1/2 coats will cover it no matter the color! Then the clear they gave me they say 1 medium light coat then right away hammer the hell out of it with a heavy coat. (wont that heavy coat be too much for the 1st coat so soon....it will get too heavy and sag...…..they said no it wont) And the guns they gave me to use are sata 5000...with 1.2 tips. damn that's a fine mist. Tomorrow is the start of this new stuff....cant wait to see how this goes. if its as good and amazing as they SAY...it will be fun to use.
water base system is a million times better than the old system especially the prepping side, remember the old prepping way using wet sanding the mess was a joke, dry sanding is much more better, plus it cuts out a shit load off arm rubbing down let the sanders do the job and the extract the dust a little bit of blocking down at the end job done
Yeah, Chromabase red takes forever to cover. And its the most expensive color.....it's good to see coverage in three coats. I am looking into waterborne also. But over the last twenty years, it comes out, everyone says its here to stay and is required, then it disappears. But i think it's here to stay
The clear is not yellow outstanding clear. It is like DeBeers clear Anyways. Looks like a SATA RP 3000? 1.2 tip? how much flash time between coats on clear? Back to Back? I have some telling me back to back. I have another saying wait five mins. I use the John Kosmoski method of the string test. But this has burnt me on DuPont and Spies clears. On base any flash time? Back to back? like spies? then drop coat at 24 inches? I got guys telling me back to back on two coats, the right away drop dont lower pressure, and only 10-12 inches on drop? Its like there should to me be a consistant way of spraying a paint companies paint. Period. Each time. Im just saying to you be more specific in your videos for us. And I hate to see techs with out house over back. I know no one does it anymore. But I grew up working for a guy who would freak out if I did not do this. Its habit.. But looks good

you a pro!
at the end of the video i saw some dust on the clearcoat ;)
Water base people! Has been been around for years, a special gun is recommended usually costing hundreds of dollars
Should this not be titled Water Based paint instead of Waterborne paint which is different!
You Should have Sprayed all of your Edges fist so that you don't have any over spray on your hood
how can they call this shit enviormently friendly. when it has to be coated always with toxic, pision shit lacquer. load bollox
technically the base is environmentally friendly. Nobody ever said you had to put down toxic clearcoat over the friendly base now did they?
who gives a FUCK , shit job .peroid
get fucking lost
dont comment on my post
+london10 better for the environment than the old chemical based paints, and less toxic to the person using it
