So for thrills and some frustration! While I wait for the Backordered BFS Curado to show up I thought to try the Crappie Maxx Baitcast reel.... Not sure there is much hope for this reel or if a shallow spool could fit or would help it...
Thanks for the review! My choice is definitely 70. When we catch pike in Russia, we use a PE braid. And the capacity of the spool will play a more important role..
@TheReelTest. I speak for me. (Even though I bet everybody agrees) I appreciate all your time and money that you invest into your channel. Your channel is bar none the best!!Thank you!!!
Im nothing special, just a flawed man like you and everyone else. I just decided to make a channel doing reviews showing the things I would like to see and didnt see on other channels. But thanks!
I have both. My experience is, if you match your rod to your desired lure weight range, you won’t see much, if any difference. The rod, and how it loads with your bait, makes far more difference than the differences between these two reels. The biggest difference is line capacity. Honestly, I’ve never even came close to spooling my 70 reels casting anything.
The 150mgl has been on my 7'2" heavy Expride. It's been great for swimbaits & jigs. I now have the 70mgl on my 6'10" med Expride & it's soo nice. I love both reels.
You said as far as “all around reel” the 150 is better. For a dedicated jerkbait setup, throwing 110 jerkbaits as well as weightless soft jerkbaits, do you still choose the 150 over the 70?
@thereeltest first question when are we going to see some casting battles with the new Okuma baitcaster? Second where is the cool 3rd person drone View? It was great on the BFS and haven't seen it since
You think they will release a new Aldebaran before long? I am sure you covered it, but I had seen talks and questions about it on the forums... A 6g-21g rating is quite heavy, that is a max of 3/4oz and low end of about 1/5oz. I haven't handled the rod so it might in fact feel like a ML, but that is borderline MH+ for most rod companies.
Really like the comparison! I have the mgl 150, but can't cast nearly as long as you did in this test with lures that light (it probably comes down to my technique as well). My question is how tight do you have the spool tension? And do you know what diameter your line is in mm? Thanks!
Hello, @TheReelTest. I just bought the 150mgl reel( new). Is the drag star supposed to go in and out of the reel? it almost springs out. I own cheaper and older reels and they have no play on the drag star just a little in the handles. Thanks !
Thanks a lot for your videos and tests. What would you recommend for crankbaits weighing from 5g (L-Minnow) to 20g (Rudra) - metanium 2020 or curado mgl 150 (if not compare the price)?
Hi can you tell what the minimum and maximum casting weight that the Curado has ? Because on the official shimano website I can‘t find any information about it. Thanks
Sir, I'm seeking to make a purchase and want your expertise. I've had both the curado k and mgl. I'm considering the 150xg. I saltwater fish here in Ms. My technique and style is a qt oz jig head with a 3.5 inch paddle tails. Line mainly 12-15 flouro. Is the 150 really the best of both worlds or would you choose one over the other?
Hey, I’ve watched your vids and commented before- I was wondering how come you don’t have the Antares DC7, Antares 12, or other older models alike. Not that you “have” to have it but I’m just wondering if that makes sense!
Do you feel that the 150 MGL is the best all around; light lures and heavier lures bait caster in the $200 to $250 range ? Or do the MGL spools cater more to light lures ? Thanks !
Imo the 70 mgl is always a bit over break and spool is always slow somehow. Bad for long casting but good for pitching. If the 150mgl works simular to the met b mgl, it will be a long cast reel.
How do you know what the lure range is for a given baitcasting reel? For instance, is it safe to cast a 2 oz lure on an Antares DC? Can you cast a 6oz swim bait on an Antares DC MD? Thank you love your videos! God bless you, brother!
for the heavier stuff I just look at the line capacity. For the lighter stuff you have to find out the spool weight. The lighter spooled reels will cast lighter lures better.
That’s what I was talking about one year ago if you love the world more than god God is not in you like fishing I am guilty about that I love fishing but you’re supposed to love the Lord more than you do Fishing that last guy said you gotta have something to do yeah but you’re supposed to love the Lord more than you love Fishing or anything in this world
The way I see it, Yah isnt opposed to people having hobbies, but if it becomes an idol then you have a problem. The 150mgl is definitely my favorite of the newer curado with the 300 in 2nd.
I found where my Curado 70 MGL shined the most was with 50lb maxquatro braid throwing a frog.
Love my 70 mgl! Cast great to me with 3/16 or more
Can you do the cast battle between the Curado K with the Old Green Curado E I would love to see which reel is come out on top
So for thrills and some frustration! While I wait for the Backordered BFS Curado to show up I thought to try the Crappie Maxx Baitcast reel.... Not sure there is much hope for this reel or if a shallow spool could fit or would help it...
Ive contemplated getting that reel until I saw the spool up close. Not sure what crappie lures they are trying to throw with that deep spool
@@THEREELTEST LOL, Alabama crappie rig that should have some weight.
Hoping you put the curado mgl 150 up against the metanium mgl
I have too many videos in the "need to make" queue to do that. Plus one cost double the other
150 wins, but for me i love the silver older 70. No back lashes line seems to last forever. Its on my jdm jerkbait rod
Thanks for the review! My choice is definitely 70. When we catch pike in Russia, we use a PE braid. And the capacity of the spool will play a more important role..
150 holds more line?
@@ETLLoos of course!
What's a pe braid
Just braided line

@@THEREELTEST Super humble man. Keep it up brother.
I am on the market for one of those reels, which one do you recommend for a 6-36 gram Ryvl evolution 3

I put the 71hg on my 7'2 ML, throwing 3/16oz owner flashy hook with a keitech. It's a nice setup
How do the Curado mgl 70 & Tatula SV TW 70 compare?
You said as far as “all around reel” the 150 is better. For a dedicated jerkbait setup, throwing 110 jerkbaits as well as weightless soft jerkbaits, do you still choose the 150 over the 70?
The scorpion 150 is better only cause it has shimano arb bearings, the 70 casts much better when I switched them out.
Where'd you get the upgraded bearings?
@thereeltest first question when are we going to see some casting battles with the new Okuma baitcaster? Second where is the cool 3rd person drone View? It was great on the BFS and haven't seen it since
well since Im basically a 1 man show the drone stuff will be limited. I just finished a cast battle with the Hakai, will post video soon
You think they will release a new Aldebaran before long? I am sure you covered it, but I had seen talks and questions about it on the forums...

Also what rod do you have it on, a lot of casting comes from rod action length and lure weight
REEL TEST is the Diawa Steez CT SV TW 70 a good BFS reel?
can you do a battle with the Curado vs Scorpion MGL 150 next..
How about a cast battle between new and old reel models
no point if you cant buy the old models
Can still buy the Scorpion 70..same as the old model Curado 70
Another great video I hope it's battling against the scorpion MGL
When are you going to do the Okuma Hakai cast battle?
@TheReelTest was wondering if you will be doing a video on the new Savage Gear bait casting reel?
I love all your videos. I want to start some of my own. Can you tell want camera you use to shoot your table shots?
Its a Sony ZV1, great image quality for having a smaller sensor
@@THEREELTEST Thank you so much!!
Is the handle on the 70 black?
i just got the 151 i would love to see a video on.

Hi
can you tell what the minimum and maximum casting weight that the Curado has ? Because on the official shimano website I can‘t find any information about it.

it may vary depending on the rod paired with it.
A question . between the 13 fishing origin and the piscifun phanton, which one do you prefer for long casts? Thank you.
probably the Phantom
Curado 150 MGL or Curado DC for a chatterbait setup?
In your opinion what is the best baitcaster?
Sir, I'm seeking to make a purchase and want your expertise. I've had both the curado k and mgl. I'm considering the 150xg. the 200 feels more robust but the 150 is alot lighter and palms smaller.. take your pick
@@THEREELTEST last question which is your favorite? Okuma hakai or Mgl 150?
@@john21fishing83 I got both. Shimano all the way. Okuma feels great in hand but suck with lighter stuff. It feels like it's overbreaked.. just imho..
If i used curado mgl 71 for heavy game, is it can affect the reel durability ?
I mean continued heavy use will affect all reels

So far yes. But MGL spools are not just for light lures. They are for farther casting with less effort due to low inertia design.
Will the 150 size spool fit in the Curado 70 MGL?
No, the 150 spool is a little wider.
Help if someone told us what NHL and all the Achronims staand for .
Is curado mgl 70 hagane body ?
How would you compare the corado 150 mgl and the chronarch mgl?
The curado palms smaller but my Chronarch is on another level of smoothness over any Curado. If money wasnt an issue Chronarch all day long
@TheReelTest can you comment on Chronarch MGL vs Curado MGL 150? I am debating between the two.
2 years later, chronarch is probably the best mid range priced reel.
Good casting comparison. Pitching is pretty subjective to angler skill though. Do love your videos though!
Next...CURADO MGL vs SCORPION MGL!!!
^^ +1
Since I have switched to Shimano, I have better casting more consistently what I except in my equipment.
So can you make a vid wher you show us every reel that you got over the years ?
no, but I am doing a BFS reel "arsenal" vid in the near future
@@THEREELTEST OK thats nice too

yeah the spool definitely feels slower than the previous 70. But still a great caster IMO

The 150 seems to beat the 70.
they were pretty close. Only a cast battle will tell
Two different reels with two different applications
apparently not
