- A new Hungarian law that prohibits "promoting" LGBTQ content to young people comes into effect on Thursday. The controversial legislation has sparked a chorus of criticism, with European Union institutions threatening to take action against Hungary.
The restriction on young people's access to information about LGBTQ is part of a broader "Anti-Pedophilia Act," which originally focused on tougher penalties against child abuse. But the Hungarian parliament last month passed the bill with further amendments, including a ban on sex education and media content.
The law prohibits the "display or promotion" of homosexuality or gender reassignment in educational material or TV shows for people under 18. Balazs Hidveghi, a Hungarian MEP from the ruling Fidesz party, told DW that the law was "solely" to protect children. "It does not concern adults. It does not concern how they want to live their lives. It does not concern what information they get. It does not concern even the operation of LGBT groups. They are free to operate, but they have nothing to do in kindergartens and in schools." It is unclear what punishments would be given if the law is broken or what constitutes LGBTQ content due to the law's vague wording. But some fear that even the display of rainbow flags in public could be punishable.
The law has triggered a backlash in Hungary and across Europe. Critics say it equates homosexuality with pedophilia.

If everybody did their own thing, you get chaos. The first dictionary was about standardisation of spellings and language, otherwise you end up living like a peasant, scratching in the sand. Education has to be in the same way- standardisation in curricula.
Some that would do well, doing their own thing if they follow best practice, all else will fail in part or in whole in anyone's practises. Abuse occurs behind closed doors.

This isn't about values, it's about basic knowledge being allowed to pass between adult and child. Even the most barebone, rudimentary, prudish and "just don't piss off the bishop" type of "family education" (of course they wouldn't call it sex ed, are you kidding me?) the Polish educational system begrudgingly allowed to exist back when I was in school in the 2000s ended up being the only channel I could ever learn about just how babies are made. My parents wouldn't have given me the bees and birds talk if their lives depended on it. And we weren't exactly some small-town religious zealots but actually a relatively affluent middle class family. I wouldn't dare start watching porn until I was about twenty and it was only thanks to that I found out I had a penis condition only a surgery could remove. It wouldn't have been necessary if someone had taken an interest in my lower parts when I was younger. But they didn't because, well, we don't talk about those nasty things, now, do we? And the rule of stupidity holds that if you don't talk about something, that thing can't possibly exist.
If parents were solely allowed to instill values in their kids, they'd raise them to be just as hopeless bigots as they are. And sadly, these kids tend to grow into a society. Just because your father happens to be a tanktop-wearing downbeat doesn't mean you need to learn life values from him. And not everyone has the luck of encountering a respectable role model so school has its duties.
By your logic parents that are criminals could teach bad ideas to the children don't you realize why thats a bad idea?

It is absolutely the domain of the parents to educate their children on sexuality. There is no law banning parents from teaching their own kids anything they want about sexual orientation. That reporter is flat out lying.
This law only bans teaching OTHER PEOPLE'S KIDS about sexual orientation. And regardless of what your opinion about sexual orientations is, that is only right. Parents absolutely should have the right to decide what their kids are taught.

I find it disturbing that schools here are so inclusive with the LGBT they are going as far as bringing one elementary school on a field trip to a GAY BAR...or the case where a female was raped in the women's bathroom by someone pretending to be trans. The school choose to keep quiet on that one.
