    Remove that entire hose for more power And a super deep growl from the airbox. Rides smoother and sounds sooo much better

    For anyone watching this, there's no need to cut the snorkel. It comes out as a single press-fit piece.

    I would change the sprocket at the rear and maybe ta the front for much better power feeling. Works 100%

    Simple math guys. This won't work or the results will be negligible. The opening of the snorkel will still allow the same volume of air into the filter even after cutting off that extra piece. Two words, Japanese engineering. Switching over from the stock filter to something like the DNA may increase airflow through the filter wall and may increase the amount of air used during the intake stroke. The only other way to increase this flow would be to remove the filter completely or add forced induction like a turbocharger or similar.
    Just do an ECU tune. Best and most reliable way to get more HP.

  • @JacobTJ1
    @JacobTJ1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    that extension is probably there to channel moisture/water down and not get the filter moist and clog it... so maybe counterproductive mod in the long run

    • @TMVGarage
      @TMVGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be right about that, I'm sure the engineers at Yamaha had a really good reason for putting it in there. As I mentioned in the video though I was just making a tutorial video about someone's theory in the FZ07 forums about getting a better dyno tune so as stand alone this probably does nothing at all but for someone with aftermarket intake and exhaust and was getting ready to have it tuned this might yield better HP, again just a theory.

    Planning on eventually getting this bike. Really like how simple and to the point your video is! Did you notice any difference in your bike? Say, power, throttle response, fuel consumption, or sound? I'm sure you need proper tuning to benefit the most out of it, but just curious as to your personal feel of the bike.

    • @TMVGarage
      @TMVGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No noticeable difference, not even to the sound. You are correct, you would need a higher flow air filter and exhaust in conjunction with a dyno tune in order to see if this mod helps or not.

    Quick question, will it make a difference if i install the dna filter and do an ecu flash\pcv without aftermarket exhaust? Thanks from Holland

    • @TMVGarage
      @TMVGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would be hard to find fuel map for that setup. Say hi to Holland for me ;)

    • @impact0r
      @impact0r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main difference would be that installing a bug filter instead of air filter will damage your engine and rob you of HP and torque as the result.

    I think I read somewhere that the euro version (MT-07) already has a different snorkel on it, why the yank version is different I don't know. you won't see any real performance changes unless you stick it on a dyno to get it remapped.

      emission laws in cali are literally the bane to manufacturers for all other states in the US. they have to make specific mods and standards that must pass Cali to be sold here. It doesn't make sense for them to have different bikes for 1 state then another for the other 49 states. its absolutely ridiculous.

    nice vid. I did this mod to my bike and I find it's starving for fuel now, there is definitely a little more power top end but I wish I only cut it off half way rather than all off, it's getting too much air now. also not sure if it's related but my O2 sensor crapped out a week after I did the mod

    • @TMVGarage
      @TMVGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh that sucks, Ive put 9000 miles on mine with no issues.

    • @gam0t0
      @gam0t0 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      so I found out it wasnt the 02 sensor, my bike engine management system went into shutdown cos it couldn't get enough fuel in to compensate for the extra air.
      I have a LAMS MT07 (learner restricted) where as your American FZ07 (unrestricted) seems to be ok.
      the only way to safely do it to an MT07 LAMS would be to get the engine re-mapped.
      I assume the MT07HO (high output) would be fine too

      @@TMVGarage yes im getting the feeling of that to. and even some dyno shops recomends pulling the snorkel out but leaving the cover on as they say it doesnt encrese the hp but in my brain it would make more sense that a bigger air intake holde would take in more air and increse horsepower but what do i know... im not the one with the dyno and charts.

      all the bikes run on the rich side to be safe. AND they run even richer the higher you go on premium fuel.
      my MT07 91RON (87 fuel in the states) runs PERFECT with a K&N. if I run the 95RON (89 fuel in states) it runs at 12:1 fuel if I run 98RON (93 in the states) it runs almost 10.9:1 runs WAY TOO RICH. unless its a R1M or something bikes dont like the super high end fuels Japan doesnt tune them for those fuels. and it shows . I fould plugs if I run anything above the mid grade. and even then I have to flog it get it really hot, run the K&N in it.
      you waste your cash if you dont have K&N and a reflash to use thos fuels. and you can even wash a lot of fuel into your oil

    The "pockets" with the Yamaha tri-fork logos are the "ram air scoops" the so-called snorkel you just hacked is simple a ducting to get fresh air to blow onto the battery and has nothing really to do with engine air intake.

    For anyone who wants to know.
    This doesn't increase hp in any noticable way on the HO model.
    On the lams model for UK and aus. The air filter itself has the bottom section covered so air won't flow through. The Yamaha shop when dyno tuning my bike offered to exactly what was in this video for my lams model with a filter replacement. In hindsight I wish I just done that.
    Instead I got a DNA 2 stage (filter and top plate).
    Roughly 200$ Australian
    Then a dyno tune.
    No exhaust just stock.
    2014 Mt 07 lams - stock with stage two *before dyno* running Lean. 55.09 hp 45.67 ftlbs torque.
    After dyno 57.90hp and 46.66 ft lbs of torque.
    Filter and plate $200ish Dyno and removal of the "hidden restrictions in the airbox" with woolich a&f controller
    $800
    This is from a Yamaha dealer.
    Bike rides better. But it NEEDS an exhaust to see the full benefits.
    1000 for a 2hp gain isn't worth it.
    Now a decent exhaust is another 1400. Tune will be free tho bc I know the dude.
    Was told I'd see roughly 64-66 hp with exhaust.

    that snorkel bit makes the air draw in from the center of the air filter and filter out and into the engine. technically that filter is not even filtering air now. which is why u got more performance. what a silly sausage

    • @TMVGarage
      @TMVGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ehhh no.Trust me the air is still 100% going through the air filter.

    • @seinfeld11123
      @seinfeld11123 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ehh no. the air flow through a filter is ONE way. now the air swirls. that is why the snorkel directed it from the bottom of the center
      ppl do it to R3's as well the longer snorkels help drivability as well. shorter stacks are better for high RPM. longer better for low down due to velocity changes

    • @prestonfilozof3089
      @prestonfilozof3089 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Magee , you shouldn't say that when you haven't a clue wat your saying. Obviously the whole is the same size.. the piece he is removing is a sound baffle. The issue is it sits so close to the filter. It goes in deep inside to only leave a 1/4" that air gap between the bottom of the baffle and filter. So air can't get around it. Once around the space between it and the filter is very big small. So it helps a ton.... This is a great mod at no cost.
