    Ya know, I think these are my favorite kinds of videos because you break down exactly why you do exactly what you do. You are indirectly creating jobs because you are showing others how to start their own businesses. How doable it is! You can provide for your family and still be in control of your day to day.

    My parents had a trashman growing up. He started a new business with a f150 with very tall sides. He did that for 1-2 years just himself. He then got a fullsize trash truck and 1 employee. After 7-10 years he had 2 fullsize trucks and 4 employees. The local trash company then bought him out and he was able to move to Florida and retire. Keep doing what your doing and great things will happen. God Bless

      @CopperCreekCuts that's not a bad long, long-term idea, getting the county contact going again and selling that company to whomever wants to take over. The company I work for has changed hands twice, and there's graffiti of old names on a sign by the mechanics office. 🫡
      The small recycling company I worked for was bought by Canada fiber, and then a few months later, GFL bought Canada fiber. 😅

    Hey Brad, great video as always. This series has already become a weekly staple for me. One thing I thought of with you getting a garbage truck: it's great advertising. I bet a lot of future customers are still hesitant to book your service since it is a new company. On top of that the current (now old) setup with the dump trailer might seem a little less professional (despite it working great for you in the beginning). You switching to a truck sends the message that your business does great and grows. I also think a garbage truck falls more in line with your style of doing things. I've been following you for years and what I always admired was your sense of detail when it came to making a professional appearance.
    Keep up the good work Brad!

    I don’t care what anyone says, I absolutely love this trash series you’re doing. Not to throw dirt on anyone else but everyone runs their occupations how they feel works. A lot of people have jumped into conclusions regarding your business and have made some bold claims too. For your small business, I think a CDL now isn’t worth it. You’re still growing and like you said it’s money that can go towards truck payments. Glad everything is working out for you so far, you seem to have a firm grip on the garbage disposal business already. Not sure if this is something your interest in the future but perhaps consider a Garbage Can cleaning service and offer it for some extra money. That’s obviously down the road once you are officially stable enough to where you’re making a profit. Good stuff there sir!

    A buddy of mine started his business “The Garbage Man” in Livingston County Michigan with same mindset as you. He didn’t want employees and all that, his first week picking up he had less than 100 stops. 10 years later he’s over 14,000 customers, a municipality and 15 trucks. He turned a $30,000 investment into a company that’s worth over $5 million. Employees are definitely hit and miss over the years I’ve definitely noticed he takes less crap and has no problem letting an employee know when production isn’t matching the amount of hours worked

    When the supply of bin liners are out I suggest leaving the bin lids open when you have serviced them,
    1. To let the cart/bin be aired out
    2. if it rains a bit you can get a free cart wash out
    3. it makes it obvious to the resident the can is collected.

I just wanted to say that I would really really really recommend at least a 20lb. ABC fire extinguisher on it. It might seem like an overkill but trust me it isn’t, the reason all big trash companies have 20 pounders mounted on the side of their truck if because a 20lb. fire extinguisher can put out a really big fire, and also because of the fire code and insurance. Either way I wish you the best in your business.

    Hey Brad,
    I appreciate you acknowledging my comment and giving a clear explanation as to what you have planned. It's understandable, and I respect that. -I just would like to clarify that the reasoning I found it "discouraging" is because I was replying to the previous comment. Who was shedding light on the repetitive commentary (answering negative comments) and the lack of "Can do" attitude. Overall. I look forward to what the future beholds for you and this new business journey!
    I do have a following question😂
    Instead of doing dumpster rental, have you thought about renting out the dump trailer instead of selling it? You dont have to drop off the trailer in remote places. The customers can pick it up. Just slap a huge "For rent" sign on the back, send it out for $200 a week, that's $800 a month to pay for it. Meanwhile, you can keep it as a back-up for the garbage truck. *Just an idea

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks again for the comments! I appreciate it! Never thought about them picking it up there. Definitely possible but not sure if the risk/reward is worth it. $200 for a week of abuse could lead to some $$$ repairs.

    • @kevobangz1751
      @kevobangz1751 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @CopperCreekCuts Ohh absolutely! I was just using $200 a week as an example. A dump trailer that size in my area is rented out for $100-$175 a day. You can also add a late fee and a cleaning fee if necessary. Plus, you get free advertising for those renting it out. Bright orange trailer is a head turner😉

    One thing on the not wanting to expand - you can still consider it. Some awesome business owners which you seem like you could be, could give a lot more back with a few employees by giving them paid volunteer time and things like that. Your priorities right now are probably in line, but at some point you can distance yourself from all of the trash pickup and get back the things you want - time with their family and being able to give back to your community. The hard part is finding employees that match your values but once you do things really can take off and you wont be turning work down.
    You can also outsource a lot of the things you mention to local businesses but it'll have to be at the right point -- likely after you get at truck for trash ;)
    Side point two - find someone in your county that is a diesel tech and be their best buddy with trash pickup discounts and lawn care discounts in trade for getting your truck(s) worked on since you dont enjoy that aspect and leverage your strengths. Barterism at the best.
    tldr my point is your goals and values right now shouldnt change even if you do grow your business to the point that is something to consider.

  • @HyperMario64
    @HyperMario64 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I believe this is the first time I hear your rationale about not having a CDL. Given the scope of this business, I don't see either if there is any point at which would make sense to get one.
    It got me thinking about my own business I run in my home. Because of the infrastructure, I basically can't scale it up further without moving into a warehouse. But as it is, gets me plenty of time and enough money, time I wouldn't get by spending it scaling the business up, as well as operating a larger entity! Not to mention I would need an accountant and deal with many more problems. What's great about having my own business is that I get to decide what I want to do with it, and I'm not accountable to anyone outside of my family for these decisions. In my opinion that's what this series is about, not growing a ginormous conglomerate by any means necessary. I see parallels about your situation and the implications of having a large trash truck for example.
    Thanks for sharing your insight. I really see this being successful, the math checks out. This is stable generous income, more than one can ask for. Good luck Brad!

    Good (successful) entrepreneurs always recognise the drawbacks / pitfalls and challenges of their start up businesses and when these need to be revised. Your comments in the past videos, gives us insight into how you have recognised the current challenges you face and the actions you are taking at present to deal with these. It's easy to blindly press on and expand by taking on employees and / or buy bigger equipment / trucks before you have established a company you know can work and is financially viable. The skill is sticking with a plan and not being swayed by others. Your hard work, and that of your supportive wife, will make your present venture a success.

Now that I'm home and can look at the exact yards on the truck we'll assume 18. I count the 4' long cylinders as 3 tons each, I have 5 and can overload the trucks' legal weight limit pretty easily without trying. 😅

    You mentioned contemplating selling the trailer. Have you considered renting it out? Reach out to local landscape companies who may not have such a trailer and offer yours for rental cheaper than what is it to rent elsewhere. Rent it out for $200/day, and you just need to rent it 4x/month to make the payment. Any rentals above 4 would be "profit". Plus you get to keep it and use it for your own needs as needed and have a backup up option in case your truck goes down.

    The only work that was really needed was trash seals around the packer, welding a new pan as broken glass over time cut into the metal and they mickey moused the old wiring just simple solenoids and stop switches. I only had to finish out a contract, it was less then 6 months and wouldn't be caught dead in one long term. 😂
