As a guy who has rode on the back of a trash truck for a couple of years, there are some tips and tricks you could use to speed things up. 1. Try to pack only when the hopper is full. Spread the trash to the sides of the hopper when possible. You are in control of the packer blade. 2. The driver needs to have the truck in neutral when packing the truck. Figure out a hand signal system and use the driver signal system to alert the driver when you need something from them. 3. Train your driver to pay attention to the curbside mirror when stopped, for hand signals.
I’ve been doing trash for 18 years the one thing I can’t stand is a loader who waits until the hopper is full. It just turns into them shaking the crap out the cart and making messes in the road. Hit the handles put the cart back as it’s coming down get back onto the step and cycle it up

When you dump the truck, unlock the tailgate, then cycle the blade sweep/pack in and slide up (just like you would while packing garbage on the route). The blades might push the tailgate open a little when it's unlocked, but when you raise the tailgate immediately afterward, there should be little to no space for garbage to stay in the tailgate as it goes up into the air. Hope that helps.
Another way is while the pump is off, you can pre-set the handles to sweep the hopper (do this while unlocking the turn buckles), then while holding the tailgate open lever, turn on the pump. The tailgate will open first because its valve body is first in the hydraulic chain. Then hold the ejector lever and afterward release the tailgate lever and eject the load from the body. Then finally release the ejector lever, and now that the hydraulic flow is finally allowed to flow to the sweep / slide valve body in the tailgate, and since you have pre-set the controls, the sweep and slide will do their cycle while the tailgate is open and in the air, clearing out anything that remains. It's easy, but the order of operations to do it is important, and manufacturers don't do a good job of explaining it in their manuals.

@@CopperCreekCutscharge extra for bulky items it will help you. The big company I worked for had unlimited trash policies and it fucked them over big time

Brad, I couldn't wait to watch this video! Makes me want to start a trash business of my own, if I'm being honest. For what it's worth. I think a lot of people share my thoughts when I say to you and your wife. We're proud of you.
One things that sucks about being four weeks behind on these videos is that a few of us could have given you tips on operating that truck that would’ve made a few things less frustrating for you. Makes me hold back on saying anything because you’ve probably already figured it out already. Personally, sometimes I don’t mind finding things out for myself even if it takes a while. Feels like I’ve learned something valuable, and not only that, but also why you should probably do it that certain way. Again, even though that tipper seems slow, when those cans are full you’ll probably throw some bars, and even eventually start breaking the cans because of wear and heat and cooling cycles. Have extra bars, a hammer, and those black retaining pins in the truck with you. Especially during family get together times of the year.
I've been watching old @CopperCreekCuts videos from 5, 6 and even 7 years ago. There is something oddly satisfying about those lawn care videos lol. They are just so relaxing to watch. Is it weird that I'm enjoying the trash pickup? I was excited when you said you got the truck, I couldn't wait for the video lol. I like this channel. I think I'll stick around for awhile.

Great video Brad. I’ve been following your business since the first time you uploaded a video of your route. In just a short amount of time, which did feel like a long journey nonetheless, I am very glad to see your business growing and taking turns for the best! Appreciate your service, and always love the videos!!
3:20 Is the truck in neutral? You could teach your wife to double peddle holding the brake while giving the truck gas. One company trained me to double peddle, as switching into neutral and back into drive wasted time during route. That 30 seconds to a minute adds up throughout the day. Their might be a cab switch the driver has to press for saftey reason and you can turn it on and off depending of the number of operators.
I can’t lie, it was a good feeling for ME to see the goose eggs for the liner line item at the end of the video! I can only imagine how much better than makes YOU feel moving forward. Loved this video Brad. The positive can do attitude is very apparent with this video. Can’t wait for the future videos
Kinda watch all the hose fittings and connections and bolts while it's still new. While I'm sure they tightened them properly at the factory, some things like to settle a bit as they are broken in and can loosen up. After a few months of regular use and a little bit of oxidation / corrosion on the threads, everything should have locked in place and will be fine. Some people like to put a small stripe of lacquer, varnish, or nail polish across the nuts and threads that will crack if there's any movement as check. (Manufacturers also like to do this as a warranty seal.) Make sure you grease all the hinges; it does make a difference in the long run. Using an oil rag to wipe off the excess old dirty grease that gets pushed out of the hinges will keep things looking sharp. Park the truck with all the cylinders fully collapsed. It varies by model, but for yours, that looks like it's with the blade open, and the slide all the way down. You might want to use a block of wood, like piece of 4x4, between the blade and the hopper sill, for the blade to rest on while it's sitting overnight, as they still might bypass a bit and cause the sweep to slowly close from its own weight over a long time, and you don't want any pressure for having to hold their position on them anyway. Anyway, keeping the cylinders collapsed will keep them protected from the elements while they are not in use. After the truck is parked, shutdown, and the block is placed, cycle all the controls to relive any residual pressure and let everything settle. While traveling long distances and at high speeds (like to and from the route and on the highway) keep the sweep down and the blade slightly pinched so it covers the hopper completely. This is the best position to prevent small rocks and debris from bouncing and flying out of the hopper during travel. Lastly, keep the ejector and its cylinder at the front of the truck and collapsed while the truck is empty until you get to your first stop on the route. This will protect the cylinder from unnecessary vibrations and with the ejector forward, make the truck easier to drive with better weight distribution. After you start collecting thou, extend the ejector and keep it pressed up against the load, and let it move forward on its own as the body fills up. If you don't already have one, get a square point or small snow shovel and carry it with you on route, make a hanging bracket between the body and the cab to store it. You can use it as a makeshift dustpan for spills, shoveling the crap out of the bed behind the ejector at the landfill, and you can turn it around and use it to scrape off the tailgate area before you close it safely from the side so your seal makes a good mate with the body and doesn't pinch on any crap that could cause it to leak. Very useful tool. While it varies, depending on what's being collected (wet loads weigh more, recycling and yard trimming / leaves weigh less) in general, properly working truck should pack out at about 1000 lbs. (1/2 ton) per cubic yard of body capacity.
This first video went pretty much how I expected. It began with you learning the ropes, as you admit to being as inefficient as I witnessed. Having said that, I also witnessed you getting to be more efficient, as time went on. And towards the end, you were finding your groove, in using the controls, in order to maximize your efficiency as well. Yes, many diesel/hydraulic powered trucks of many different varieties, all share that same system for safety, parking break must be on, to throttle up hydraulics. Thanks for filming this, I can't wait to see more!
Thanks so much! I feel like 5 weeks in I am somewhat proficient, but sometimes I still find myself pushing the levers in the wrong way, so I still need a few more months before the muscle memory is there.
At first I felt bad that you were having issues with the truck, like wow... after the dealership stuff you just can't catch a break.. glad ya figured out the pto issue. I know you said you got some brooms but for those garbage bags that were stuck, I'd suggest getting a long metal rake or something similar that could reach without you getting in the unsafe area of the truck. I think It would be cool to see how you go about cleaning the truck. Thanks for another great video!
I subscribe to the mowing when I was enjoying watching that stuff, but I didn’t watch it constantly, iv enjoyed the last few Saturday nights when these vids drop having a beer and watching them, got home from a wedding last Saturday cracked a beer sat down and was gonna watch rugby league highlights of that days games but saw ur vid pop up and went that can wait need to watch the garbage vid first.
That truck really made the job much easier! I can't imagine what kind of relief it will provide on rainy days. I can see you are betting on the business growing fast on your financing strategy. I think you are right on this call. The compaction footage was awesome. Until next week then!
Glad your getting used to it and it’s definitely way better in your back!!!! Great video man…and yea a cleaning and mandatory maintenance to the truck would be cool

Good to see the truck is working out for your company. Hopefully the amount of customers you have are steadily increasing to make the purchase justified 🤞
I actually first found your channel from a pressure washing video. It would definitely be interesting to see what the process is for cleaning out a truck like this.
Glad the truck is working out for you! Love watching the trash videos People can always cut their own grass but trash will always need to be hauled My opinion I would focus on trash
We tried to do the tall grass videos. It never really went anywhere 🤷 I think you're right 😎☝️too many people are doing overgrown stuff and watchers gravitate to dramatic personal stories . So, we just have 2 tiny hobby channels and do them when we feel like it. Good video Brad 😎👍
I’m glad you walked through the finances of it because I was having an anxiety attack on the interest only thing and it’s not even my stuff on the line 😂
You should put a copper creek cuts logo on the garbage truck so people know where to find your channel still! Congrats to you and and your back on getting the truck! Looks a lot more comfortable without that back brace on 😂
1 tip when you use the packer and slider squish the trash as you normally do but leave the packer sweep in and the slide up so there’s more space for more trash. 👍
The only good thing about a rear loader. If you charge for bulk pick up it’s a lot easier to get items in the rear loader than a sideloader. One other thing don’t mess with the pressure on the pump you’ll start having hydraulic leaks on the push out blade. I’m sure it’ll mess with the warranty.
Great video, Brad. I love seeing the new truck out and working! I can't wait until next week to see it without linners. Also, would you be able to do a video of cleaning the truck?
Appreciate the honesty on how the truck was paid for. Its unfortunate its so hard to find reliable employees as if you could, truck could run more days a week to pay for itself
I always enjoy your vids. One thing I think might expedite the process quicker is, have the customer set the cans with handle out toward the road. I see you having to drag the can against the wheels and turn the can to roll it. Might save a little time, but cumulatively, it adds up and causes less work for you.
Pro tip When you go to dump, set both of the hopper handles in with the pto off, then walk back to the cab, turn the pto on, and raise the tailgate. The hopper will clear out.
One thing is with the blade to push out the garbage at the end at the dump have that blade at the front and let the garbage push it back so it gets more compacted and squished and at the end pull your packer to the top so nothing gets stuck up there this will help you a lot of what i said hope you use it and have fun!
That is looking so much easier from when you had the dump trailer. And I haven't seen inside the cab but just on the way. She's driving your wife seems a lot more comfortable or with a truck
As me I used to run for a volunteer for Rumpke but on some of them carts leave them lids open, Not going to judge you for what they do but when we have a insanely stinky cart we will live the lid open to air it out for the customer. No judgement. Amazing video.
Yes please to a "cleaning the garbage truck" video!! Not in real time = speed it up on some parts lol, but I would love to see how you get rid of all the juice & hitchhikers after each route is complete!!
Can you create videos on the maintenance you need to do on the truck? Grease points, oil changes, paint touch ups, upgrades, etc. It would be nice to see what it takes to maintain one of these. Also, I always want to know the current mileage lol.
Now what you have the truck - I think it'd be cool to show more on the growing the business side of things where you look at ways to reach your 200 and 400 can mile stones :)
@coppercreekcuts make sure you keep out of the line of fire when you “smush” the trash with the packed bags tend to pop and spray you with trash juice (I’ve learned the hard way once) lol
Love to see your business grow. That truck is awesome. Again we are reminded of the value hard work and resilience. Do you catch any flack from neighbors for washing a garbage truck in a residential area driveway?
Just one thing with the packer, keep it fully retracted(in the raised position) while dumping a cart that way you dont have to stick your arm under the blade to get the trash all the way into the hopper. Looks like its working good for you though!
Tip, keep the ejection blade to the rear, pull it back few inches so its not deadheaded on the cylinder, itll pack the trash tighter and you can use the blade to judge how full the truck is Run the blade after you dump the can, dont worry about the handles, when your wife drives( im assuming its not a live PTO, since it won't idle up outside of park) they will stay their position till the pump is engaged and they finish their cycle Also, when your headed to dump, run the blade to cover the hopper, the kill pump and set them to pack, when to get to landfill, open tailgate, let them finish their cycle, then eject the load. This will also prevent pulling a wheelie (shouldnt happen with that size body but don't count anything out in the trash industry) Also, Holtz industries sells a powder to keep the trash smell at bay, we used it in compactors and restaurant cans, as many municipalities heavily frown on liquids from the trucks being knowingly washed down the street, plus unless your rinsing your driveway/street off as well, your just moving the smell from truck to driveway Welcome to refuse industry and theres millions of ways, dos, donts, tips and tricks to the industry (personally wouldve gone for a 10yd body to offer rear load container services) Also good luck with RDK, may your experience be better then few I had with one of their reconditioned trucks(had sand in hydraulic system and rat nest of wires for tailgate light harness)
The moment we’ve all been waiting for! Save yourself a couple seconds and only cycle the packer blade when the truck hopper is full. That is what we do out in the field because it would just take too long to finish the route of we did it after every house, though I don’t see this being a problem for you just yet since you’ve mastered time and move quick so your not building up a lot of time. I also liked your answer to the comments about the welding job made by RDK and it makes sense. Why spend more time at the dealership with your children and wife with you when you could be back on the road to go home and finish the day at home? Yeah it’s imperfect however it’s not leaving the truck in a limbo state to where it’s not even operable. A tip for you, when you get to the dump cycle the packer blade and bring it all the way up to the its home position. No trash gets tuck inside there if the blade is fully retracted or bring a garden hoe with you. Doubles as your clean out tool. Glad you figured out the idle situation. You’ll get used to the bugs flying out of the hopper and at you. I’m sure you’ll have fun at work now with the new toy!

This is one my my favorite parts about entrepreneurship. Getting new equipment and making your work easier. It just feels so good. Congrats Brad. I see Baker County Trash Pickup being a very popular company in a couple years. Set your goals high. Shoot for 500 cans and 200 will come a lot quicker,
In my opinion I think you made the right choice on getting a rear loader packer.
This way when you have bulky items such as furniture, it will be a whole lot easier.
Thanks!
@@CopperCreekCutscharge extra for bulky items it will help you. The big company I worked for had unlimited trash policies and it fucked them over big time
I watches your videos for a long time...and your right, i git sucked into the big drama of huge makeovers and dump gardens...when u started the trash business, i started rewatching again 😊 i find it relaxing and interesting to hear your journey x
Brad, I couldn't wait to watch this video! Makes me want to start a trash business of my own, if I'm being honest.
For what it's worth. I think a lot of people share my thoughts when I say to you and your wife. We're proud of you.
That's great, man. proud that you finally got a good working process for you. Has been great watching you grow this business
Definitely make a video on how you clean it.
I've seen a lot of the lawn care channels and once in a while I'll stumble across them just for something to watch watching this whole trash adventure with you has actually been quite interesting now I'm not in the trash business nor am I going to be in the trash business but it's very educational and entertaining to say the least you gained a new subscriber out of me
Thank you!
Good job getting up early and finishing the voiceover
:)
Amazing! This was a great & bold move! 1st one to market can corner the market. Be patient and keep on pushing!
Great video Brad. I’ve been following your business since the first time you uploaded a video of your route. In just a short amount of time, which did feel like a long journey nonetheless, I am very glad to see your business growing and taking turns for the best! Appreciate your service, and always love the videos!!
You have gotten better emptying the trash cans with the truck . Keep up the good work brad 💪😂
Thank you!
Wont work with the foot on the brake.
Hey Brad, loving watching your business grow. I would really enjoy watching the pressure washing of the truck after.
Thank you!
(Manufacturers also like to do this as a warranty seal.)
Make sure you grease all the hinges; it does make a difference in the long run.
Very cool way to pay for it. Glad you shared and moreso that you have it all well thought out. Great work! Awesome truck, dude 👍
Thank you!
You are the only grass cutter I watch. Letsdig18 the only dirt guy.
What about Andrew Camarata?
@@XLT94 nope. All talented guys. But only so many hours for watch time in my life
Is it weird that I’m really excited for this video?
At first I felt bad that you were having issues with the truck, like wow... after the dealership stuff you just can't catch a break.. glad ya figured out the pto issue. I know you said you got some brooms but for those garbage bags that were stuck, I'd suggest getting a long metal rake or something similar that could reach without you getting in the unsafe area of the truck. I think It would be cool to see how you go about cleaning the truck. Thanks for another great video!
Good tip, thank you!
OK I'll do my best to get one filmed this Monday!
Brad what youre doing is smart. Provide a service that will be needed forever trash pickup. I hope you make a shit ton of money doing it. Nice job.
Appreciate it Sir, thank you!
by far my favorite video, and I love the truck
Thank you!
As a Mississippi native hol Mac who makes the pac Mac garbage body which is only 45 minutes from my house in bay springs really needs a sideloader to add to their lineup
One rule to a fellow garbage man leave your lids open to air out and so your customers know you have been
but then if it rains it’s full of gross water
great video i just love the fact that you started with a goal in mind to start a trash business and seeing it grow is amazing keep up the great work and Never give up - Jarrod Garbo
I’ve never seen your lawn videos. I’ve been a subscriber since your first garbage video. Not sure why the algorithm sent you to me that first week… but I like your vids!
Good to see the truck is working out for your company. Hopefully the amount of customers you have are steadily increasing to make the purchase justified 🤞
love the channel and the trash pick up. I would love to watch the truck clean up and power wash. it is interesting watching you grow your business.
19:14 “Subscribe to see if I lose my house!”
I actually first found your channel from a pressure washing video. It would definitely be interesting to see what the process is for cleaning out a truck like this.
Thank you! Will cover!
Great video! The white paint really helps you spot all the critters coming out lol.
Well to go going against the competition trash videos are awesome too
Thanks!
Awesome, I'm glad to see the truck in action! I'd like to see a video of ot getting cleaned out as well!
You got it!
Glad the truck is working out for you!
Love watching the trash videos
People can always cut their own grass but trash will always need to be hauled
My opinion I would focus on trash
You learn as you go. And your efficiency will improve. I do miss the lawn care videos but this is a good break
At 3:03, the truck probably has to be in neutral for the PTO/fast idle to kick in.
Great to see the new truck! Thanks for sharing
Doing a great job amazing to see u grow man
The truck is a great thing it saves your back. Good luck with the truck
19:17 that’s a lot of bugs Brad 😂
I’m glad you walked through the finances of it because I was having an anxiety attack on the interest only thing and it’s not even my stuff on the line 😂
You should put a copper creek cuts logo on the garbage truck so people know where to find your channel still! Congrats to you and and your back on getting the truck! Looks a lot more comfortable without that back brace on 😂
1 tip when you use the packer and slider squish the trash as you normally do but leave the packer sweep in and the slide up so there’s more space for more trash. 👍
Thanks! I think I start doing that next week.
The only good thing about a rear loader. If you charge for bulk pick up it’s a lot easier to get items in the rear loader than a sideloader. One other thing don’t mess with the pressure on the pump you’ll start having hydraulic leaks on the push out blade. I’m sure it’ll mess with the warranty.
run the packer blade at the dump before raising the tailgate that will swipe the trash from the hopper
Yep, this is the way.
This is much more enjoyable watching you do this vs throwing stuff in the dump trailer
I Love that garbage TRUCK! looks grate
Oh yeah it's night and day. I show the cab in the video where I go over the new truck.
@coppercreekcuts your darn right we want a video of you cleaning the truck (or at least I do)
As me I used to run for a volunteer for Rumpke but on some of them carts leave them lids open, Not going to judge you for what they do but when we have a insanely stinky cart we will live the lid open to air it out for the customer. No judgement. Amazing video.
Only thing I worry about is Florida showers and the client complaining about water in the can.
Yes please to a "cleaning the garbage truck" video!! Not in real time = speed it up on some parts lol, but I would love to see how you get rid of all the juice & hitchhikers after each route is complete!!
Will do!!
Hi mistur Brad it’s me Jaxon and I’m watching with my dad Seans lawns and he says you are very smart and will teach me things if I watch you
Hi Jaxon, thanks for watching!
Those things make awesome brush compactors, too. Just a little FYI for you to consider in future endeavors.
Hope you enjoy your new garbage truck😊
I hope so too!
W video copper creek! Love the new truck and it looks so much easier now. Still waiting for that garbage raft though 😂😅
LOL
Can you create videos on the maintenance you need to do on the truck? Grease points, oil changes, paint touch ups, upgrades, etc. It would be nice to see what it takes to maintain one of these. Also, I always want to know the current mileage lol.
Now what you have the truck - I think it'd be cool to show more on the growing the business side of things where you look at ways to reach your 200 and 400 can mile stones :)
Maybe at certain milestones I will!
Glad to see you getting the bugs work out [lol] the wife and you are making a good team this should be in the profit in short time.
Thanks for the info! I think I will get better in the coming (already recorded) weeks!
You dont need to flip the lid each bin lift. Anyway, pretty good truck
while you dont need to it helps keep the garbage residue off the lid and keeps the more noisy customers happy and satisfied
@@elevatorcentral And it makes for a better view for us
Tip, keep the ejection blade to the rear, pull it back few inches so its not deadheaded on the cylinder, itll pack the trash tighter and you can use the blade to judge how full the truck is
Run the blade after you dump the can, dont worry about the handles, when your wife drives( im assuming its not a live PTO, since it won't idle up outside of park) they will stay their position till the pump is engaged and they finish their cycle
Also, when your headed to dump, run the blade to cover the hopper, the kill pump and set them to pack, when to get to landfill, open tailgate, let them finish their cycle, then eject the load. This will also prevent pulling a wheelie (shouldnt happen with that size body but don't count anything out in the trash industry)
Also, Holtz industries sells a powder to keep the trash smell at bay, we used it in compactors and restaurant cans, as many municipalities heavily frown on liquids from the trucks being knowingly washed down the street, plus unless your rinsing your driveway/street off as well, your just moving the smell from truck to driveway
Welcome to refuse industry and theres millions of ways, dos, donts, tips and tricks to the industry (personally wouldve gone for a 10yd body to offer rear load container services)
Also good luck with RDK, may your experience be better then few I had with one of their reconditioned trucks(had sand in hydraulic system and rat nest of wires for tailgate light harness)
Great content my friend!! Keep it coming 😊
