My wife's 2014 Passat TDI SEL Premiuim does the same thing. It has the remote start but when you open the door it shuts the engine off. so you have to restart the vehicle when you get in.
But if the theft is already open your truck, they can turn it on and drive. Normally this system let drive as soon you put your 🔑 in and turn it. Or push start button . Not make any sense turn it on twice.
Yes, that pisses me off too. I love the remote start so that I can warm up my truck when in the COLD winter months, but then the engine dies, so I have to restart the engine. As long as I have the fob on my person, it should stay running. If I didn’t have my fob on me then Yes it should die for safety reasons. But why should I have to use the starter twice before I get out of my driveway? It makes no sense.
That’s one of the things I hate about mine, they should really do a software fix on this. My ‘13 Chevy had remote start and it didn’t behave like this, and could open any door while on remote start and it had a dedicated remote start button.
Love your unique way of pronouncing “Toyota.” Lol Love the Canadian accent. I’m from the southeastern part of Kentucky, but have lived in Nashville since 1995. I bet you would get a kick out of my hillbilly accent. Just think of Lucas Black from “Sling Blade,” NCIS: Nola,” or “Tokyo Drift.” Lol Hadn’t commented in a while since you first few vids. Just wanted you to know you’re doing a great job, and I’m really enjoying your content. Keep up the great work!
@@TRDTalk, you’re welcome. You should definitely make it down to Nashville sometime. Downtown is a complete party and totally a zoo. Give me a yell if you ever make it down here. I’ll make sure you get a list of places not to miss.
I just bought a 2021 Tacoma a few weeks ago and honestly around town it drives normal, on the highway it’s a bit sluggish especially uphill so I would use the ECT button on the highway, which will just hold the gears longer and at higher RPMs. Didn’t notice much decline in the mpg, often got better mpg. But in the past week or so, the truck has stopped being so sluggish and has some power. Can do 75-80 on the highway no problem. I think there’s a computer or AI in the transmission that tracks your driving/foot pressure on the pedal and will adjust its shift points. Could all be placebo but the transmission and gear hunting is not as big of a problem as I anticipated
I traded in my 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro for the Chev Colorado ZR2. The Tacoma has so many issues. The remote starter isn’t even the worst thing about it. The transmission!!!! Wouldn’t shift into high gear (6th) ever! I live in the flat prairies of Alberta Canada. Can’t hold high gear at 115km/h???!! Then the shifting up and down! The seated position is terrible and the seats are uncomfortable. The paint started to bubble and peel on the roof. The truck was parked inside a heated garage. Never again Toyota.
The first time I used this on my brand new Tacoma Trd and my truck shut off when I open the door I thought the truck just died and then when it did it again and again, I was like man this is on purpose lol. My wife’s 2014 Ford fusion you can use remote start and have the key fob in your pocket. Go up to the car open the door get inside and the vehicle is still running then you have to push the start button to access the auxiliary and be able to put the car in drive. It’s revolutionary compared to the way Toyota does it. so now I just don’t use it at all because I refuse to start my truck twice to drive it once. and where I live, I don’t have to worry about anybody stealing my truck unless coyotes learn how to drive.😂
I guess you haven't found the other stupid "safety feature". I live in Tennessee where it is hot as hell in the summer so when you want to make a quick stop at the convenience store (gas station) to get a coke or a pack of smokes and leave the truck running with the A/C going guess what? YOU CAN'T LOCK THE FRIGGIN DOORS WITH IT RUNNING. All it will do is double beep at you to remind you that you didn't shut it off and refuse to lock. My 13 year old Grand Cherokee will lock with the engine still running and remain running on remote start when you unlock it but it will not shift unless you have the fob on you and push the start button first. When I found this out I was pissed. What a stupid idea.
Hate it too. I believe it’s anti theft. But other remote starts do not turn off when the key is in proximity. I don’t use mine cause of the shut off. It’s kinda a waste imo
I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD as well and yea I hate that remote start process. I don't use it anymore because it is very annoying. And yea the transmission shifting is not good as well. But I won't be able to buy the 2024 as they're way to expensive for retired people like myself. Oh well...
Was too much of a job to make it - NOT unlock without fob, then engine shuts down.... I usually bring my stuff out im taking with me for the day & start it then OR if its nasty out, start it & let it run the 10mins cycle.. Blessed it still works... 4th Gen from what i understand ONLY works for 14days THEN you need subscription ??? Crock of Crap IMO... I paid over 2000.00 for a PPlus 10y 100,000 mile warrentee. If my remote start STOPS working. I will comtact Dealership & Toyota Corp & tell them if it doesnt get fixed - I will never buy another Toyota again, period... When you buy a Toyota your paying for that fob & wires to have a remote start SO why shouldnt it work... I have no problems buying elsewhere with my money (Edit) 2023 Tacoma TRDsport 4dr 4×4 SBed
There’s better ways that have been around for a long time now where you can start your vehicle and no one can steal it unless they kidnap you and if they go that far then it doesn’t matter what safety device you have you’re pretty much screwed😂
Remote start is to warm up your vehicle, all vehicles do this if the system if built in from the manufacter. Not just toyota. It's for safety and security, because there are too many stupid people in the world.
That’s honestly stupid because your key fob should be the only thing that recognizes the person coming up to a lock vehicle your car should be locked and only the person with the key fob should be recognized through sensory around the vehicle which would let you in only and it shouldn’t turn off the truck that’s stupid that it shuts off because they can set that up
As a Toyota Technician I always thought that "feature" of the remote starter was so stupid. No other vehicle manufacturer does that.
Agreed
My wife's 2014 Passat TDI SEL Premiuim does the same thing. It has the remote start but when you open the door it shuts the engine off. so you have to restart the vehicle when you get in.
TRD John just bought the 4th gen, and having been a 2 time 3rd gen owner, he immediately checked on it. I'm glad to say the issue was resolved.
Ahhhh thanks so much for the confirmation! Amazing news.
Apparently it’s only 15 day trial and $15 a month after that?
@@apa7611I’d say eff em…
One problems solved.....and I bet you have other problems.....
@TheGregWallace oh I'm sure. We've got first model year issues, plus who knows how these Turbo 4s are going to hold up.
Yes, its Irritating for sure and I think they did fix it in the fourth Gen.
TRD Jon did a quick video when he bought his.
Thanks for the video
Great news thanks for sharing Brad! Hope you and the family are doing well.
@TRDTalk Doing good my brother, thank you.
Yeah that drives me nuts too. I get it from a security perspective but it's so weird.
Nice to hear from you brother! Hope all is well in Louisville.
**The worst feature on the 2024 Tacomas is they dropped the v6 engine!
Lol agreed!
True but every brand is doing it except for Nissan at the moment but…we’ll see what they do for the frontier 2025.
@@sanji_alvarez I’d prob buy a frontier in 2024 if I was looking
Im in Winnipeg. This feature doesnt bother me much. Its to prevent car theft, so no one jumps in and drives away with your truck.
Fair enough!
But if the theft is already open your truck, they can turn it on and drive.
Normally this system let drive as soon you put your 🔑 in and turn it.

Not make any sense turn it on twice.
I too have discovered this ridiculous feature and hate it. Too bad there isn’t an override config we can do to keep the truck running…
OTT tune takes care of transmission and throttle sensitivity, but yes I agree that REDICULOUS shut off on the remote start needs a software update!!

The gear hunting and throttle response are very bad from factory
So just keep your Ice scraper in the bed of the truck and one in your garage.....problem solved.
