    Jeez that Captain was a well-trained hero.
    Double checking his cockpit warning lights, moving the passengers to the front to counter the pitch by changing the center of gravity, having to decide the safest place to land, refusing to fly over heavy populated areas for saftey, and THEN controlling the pitch via the engines.
    Wow....just wow.

    • @RaysDad
      @RaysDad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      The USA is divided by class more now than in the golden age, when all passengers were greeted as valued guests, all the seats had knee room, and all the meals were delicious.

    • @conorcorrigan765
      @conorcorrigan765 6 ปีที่แล้ว +65

      Because everything back then was the equivalent of first/business class today, and cost the same as what business/first class costs today. What you are complaining about is the invention of this thing called "economy class" which opened up flying to people who had never been able to afford it before. If you can't afford to fly first/business, you wouldn't have been able to afford to fly during the golden age at all. Economy class may suck, but it is still better than not flying at all- wouldn't you agree?

    Having another engine in the tail has saved so many.
    The Tristar was one of the finest Airliners every built.
    There is another thing the Tristar had that was very unusual on an airliner, "Lift Dumpers."
    As you push the control column forward the aircraft's attitude would remain the same, as little spoilers would lift up on the wings and reduce lift.
    This could have been a big factor in getting this plane to come down.
    It was one of the safest Airliners ever built. Loved the old bird.

I'm not sure ppl would watch near misses and almost died, no one wants anyone to die, but we watch, because it's fascinating how they solve accidents and the re-creations for shock value. It's intriguing, but obviously devastating. What's it like for those ppl.. NTSB, rescue workers? They've seen shit I wouldn't wish on anyone. It's taxing on the psyche, mentally haunting, with the sights and sounds, smells etc. of an accident.

    I had this same problem in the 172 in X-Plane 11. I engaged the autopilot for the flight, which can control the pitch, but found I could not disengage it. I could not angle the nose down and I had to keep adjusting the pitch so I landed, a rough landing because of a high flare, at KLZU and taxied to the hangars.

    How skilled the pilot was!!!! But I don't understand one thing is that when does and astonishing emergency landing there are less passengers and when the plane is going to crash it has a large amount of passengers.

    That a l-1011 500 because it is shortened and had 6 door, the actual plane is l-1011-385-1 because it has 8 door and is slightly longer but still Great video.

    In those days, wouldn't the flight have continued eastward from LAX to somewhere like DFW or ATL? I am sure that Delta would not use L-1011s on short stages SAN-LAX by itself.

    Was the technical issue similar to the Air Alaska crash bound for San Francisco from Mexico? A Jammed stabiliser though, which couldn't be freed?
