I was excited like everyone else until I left the theater and realized I was pissed because the trio was never going to be together again. After a year I was trying to convince my friends and family it was terrible. And before TLJ I was already writing my own version of it which included Boba Fett.

Seeing Hayden’s face in these shots makes me feel more connected to Anakin in this scene. It also assures that this is the same man who fell in love with Padme and the man who also formed close friendships with both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka.

This is much better. No disrespect to Sebastian, but Vader in this scene is 46 years old, not in his 80s. Hayden is currently 39 years old, he hasn't aged at all since ROTS. It also hits harder
They totally could have filmed new shots with Hayden for the DVD release changes. Everyshot we see Vader's face, Luke's is conveniently not visible. Totally could have reshot them.
I was one of those. I've grown since then. Seeing Haden as Vader would be awesome. Even this felt awesome! Hit me harder now then the og movies. It's Vaders real voice to me now.
When Hayden Christensen fully comes back as Vader in the Obi-Wan series, he will be greeted with open and apologetic arms from the Star Wars community, we didn’t know how good we had it, but with the sequels being what they were, man am I glad to see him back.
man Anakin's story is the saddest story I have encountered in my entire life...that shit is just painful. Especially after they did kids shows about him like clone wars, where he's like the hero on the show, and then he falls and becomes Vader....so damn sad it's crazy that anyone could think of something so dark.
It's always so tragic when someone falls, especially someone with so much obvious potential like Anakin. However, the joy is knowing that in the end he was redeemed! Redemption stories are the best because they are so close to reality. We all need redemption ♥️
@@ALivingFlame redemption is great and all but to me Anakin was way beyond that point. He took many innocent lives uncluding children. Hitler is not deserving of redemption, nor is Anakin.

George Lucas even said that Anakin never ceased to be the Chosen One even though he fell to the Dark Side in order to fulfill the prophecy in the end. I pity you that you can't empathize enough with characters like this to correctly interpret the intent behind the writing and only see the black and white without any of the deeper palette of humanity.

Likewise. This is how Anakin is meant to look at age 46, not the appearance of an elderly man. It does give a convincing feeling that the original and prequel trilogies are very much connected with one another.

I'm glad everyone is so positive about Hayden being on this scene. When they put him as the Force Ghost at the end of RotJ I was so happy since I was a kid growing up with the prequels and felt it really made a great connection with the original trilogy. Yet everyone was super mad back then.
Alot of people were mad at the time because it seemed like a major diss to the original actor of "Old Anakin" (Sebastian Shaw), who originally only had 2 scenes in the original trilogy..which now got cut to just 1 (helmet reveal). I also liked the idea of seeing "Old Anakin" as a ghost, as if he never joined the dark side...instead it felt like he was "reset" to pre-Vader. Not to mention you had Original Trilogy fans who didn't like the prequels and wanted to keep the trilogies separate. I would also say that the actual footage of Hayden as the ghost was not so flattering (his face was a little creepy...to me anyways) and I would actually be for them "updating" it to use current footage of Hayden, having a similar look to "Old Anakin" (I just came off watching the Obi Wan series and I sought out this video, just out of curiosity). But most importantly, I think if Lucas had made the original versions more available then fans of the prequels could enjoy the new ending and original trilogy purists could enjoy the old ending...even though LucasFilm did release theatrical cuts in 2006 as a bonus disc, I really wish Disney would have both versions available (not unlike how you can get different versions of Blade Runner).

You even made him sound like Hayden! Though for me the eyes appear to be too blurry, but other than that it looks great! I like the performance of Sebastian Shaw, but I wouldn't mind if they did this edit over his performance though he would still be the face movement you need to mimic. I can think of many og fans getting pissed over this so why not make two versions.
@Mr Spinner Why make it with David Prowse, that would be completely pointless, because it would not make any canonical sense. Darth Vader is meant to look like Anakin Skywalker which is Hayden Christensen. David Prowse was only ever the physical embodiment of Darth Vader.
This is really well made, especially with the inclusion of Hayden's voice. It makes the moment much more impactful in my opinion. I wish they made a version with this on Disney+ but also left viewers the option of watching the original version.
The deepfake makes him sound like he's actually struggling to speak, not only from the lack of respirator, but from his weakened vocal chords. As people also said, it matches much better with the character's age since he's not in his 60s, he's like 45. It also helps people connect with him better because the majority of fans have grown attached to prequel anakin. Shaw did a good job but we really are long overdue for a version with Hayden re acting this scene, they should make that the Disney plus version. Amazing edit, it feels real 👍👏🏻
Yeah... probably for the shots where you see Anakin's faces while using the double for Luke when his face isn't scene but keep the Mark Hamel shots when seeing his face.
In the documentary "I am your Father" they reshoot this scene with David Prowse. If they would have done that at that time, Prowse was the age Anakin would be, according to SW cronology. Anyway this video is amazing

I agree but Deepfake technology is a fairly 'new' thing (at least compared to what is possible now). I know they did it back in 94 with The Crow but the technology has just recently matured to a level which makes the illusion almost believable.

I’m gonna be honest - this is great work, it really is. But I will always love the original with this scene, the original guy just delivers it perfectly and you can really feel it when he says ‘you already have, Luke’ it just hits home.

Not gonna lie now that we have the technology I kinda want them to do this, as people said no disrespect to Sebastian but this would help connect the two trilogy’s even more. But if not I am fully satisfied with the Hayden ghost we already have in Return of the Jedi.
We will possibly get more force Ghost Hayden in the Ahsoka series. Hayden is part of the cast. Unless he's only there for flashbacks...I think George Lucas meant to use Hayden as a force ghost if he made sequels to the OT.
Dude I've been saying they should've done this since 2004. It's totally confusing to new viewers who aren't familiar with the prequels when young Hayden, who bears no resemblance to 80 year old Sebastian Shaw, appears as a ghost moments later. I really hope they re-shoot this scene with Hayden. Sabastian Shaw was in the entire trilogy for what, 45 seconds? Not like his legacy was built on those 2 scenes.
Seeing Hayden's face in this mod makes this scene actually emotional now because you can connect his face to the character from the prequels. The real scene never had any emotional impact on me because you never had seen the actors face until this point therefor having no connection to the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker.
What? the whole point of Vader in the OT is that you never get a good glance of his face which leaves some to either believe he may either be a droid or a person under the suit until the reveal.
Someone needs to edit the movies with these golden edits and then release it digitally on a torrent so we can all burn them to CDs for future generations. Including Han shooting first.
Who did Vader's voice over? That was magnificent! It had a much deeper vibration tone on par with the voice of James Earl Jones at the time. Add in voice effects and it would sound closer to Vader's original in-helmet voice.

I never noticed it until someone pointed it out to me recently, listen to the blaster fire as part background noise! Stormtroopers, Imperial Officers, and Regs are "fragging" eachother of the limited seats on the shuttles and in the escape pods. Adds to the horror that the people on the station were experiencing in those final moments.
I would honestly have this edit in Return of the Jedi, albeit done as professionally as possible, with Hayden Christensen playing the role. I know fans would throw a hissy fit over removing Sebastian Shaw from the film completely, but I cautiously take Star Wars' fans criticisms and complaints with a pinch of salt when so many of them have either made the stupidest, biased, childish, hypocritical complaints I've ever seen, or at least made themselves look worse than what they dislike even if their criticisms are valid. It's people like them who bullied Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best to where the former developed mental health issues, and the latter almost threw himself from the Brooklyn Bridge. Hope that's worth it for a work of FICTION that you're not involved in! But going back to my point, let me explain... I never saw anyone complain about Marjorie Eaton and Clive Revill being removed from The Empire Strikes Back to redo Palpatine's part with Ian McDiarmid. And why? Because the former two didn't make as much of an impression in that scene as Ian did later on, and with all he did on top of that over the decades to follow, it only made sense to have his part in that film redone. Ian's version of the character became the definitive one. It would be the exact same logic in replacing Sebastian Shaw completely with Hayden Christensen; the former had so little time to make enough of an impression as Anakin compared to all that Hayden did for the character thereafter, and people mainly recognise the latter as the definitive Anakin. Shaw's ghost version of Anakin was replaced anyway for this same reason (plus the fact Anakin never looked like that prior to his injuries) - might as well go all the way. And Hayden's reached his 40s now, which is where Anakin is here; not in his 70s like what Shaw was during filming.
The way this scene is shot makes me question whether Sebastian Shaw and Mark Hamill were both present. Their faces never share the screen. It looks like they used stand-ins.
Since luke and vader’s face dont show up together in the same shot. They could honestly reshoot all the darth vader face shots with hayden Christiansen whos now close to being in his 40s just like vader. And it would look seemless.
Do Disney have the balls to re-make the original trilogy? I'm from that generation, and even I will admit A New Hope is not aging very well. One day my kid (he's currently 1yrs old) will be watching the Obi-Wan series and then A New Hope?... It's just not going to work for him

i eliminated the voice by muting one specific channel (Voice) in premiere (i had a dolby version so i had 5 audio channels). Then i let an Hayden impersonator re-record sebastians lines and put it in sync with the lips.
So, the distortions almost make it look like the projected spirits in the Haunted Mansion at Disney World--particularly the one within the crystal ball. lol.
They could have filmed Hayden into these scenes back when they did the DVD editions. Luke's face and Anakin's are never in the same shot. They could have just as easily put a Luke double to provide the back of his head for the shots we see Hayden. :P
I really wish George would've thought of doing something like this when he did all those re-edits to the original. Would've made more realistic sense, that version of Anakin was way to senior citizen lol
As much as I love Hayden as Anakin, this doesn’t sit right. Lucas kept the same actor for a reason. He just took off the eye brows because of him being burned. That was a better change than just adding Hayden’s face to his. Because if George did that, he might as well put Ewan’s face over Alec’s. Again, I love Hayden as Anakin and a young suited Darth Vader, but Vader was in his late 40’s to early 50’s. I know Hayden is 41, but adding his face to the OG Vader doesn’t sit right. Lucas wouldn’t want that. He kept most of the stuff in the OT the same, he just added better quality and visuals to complete his vision as the original cuts were incomplete and outdated. They wouldn’t sit well with todays time. He only did what he could at that time because it was the only technology he could use for the originals. It was a good start. But as time passed, he improved the OT. Which is just a fact. Let’s face it
GL literally casted Ewan McGregor largely cuz he looked like a young Alec Guiness. Sebastian Stan looks nothing like Hayden Christensen. Seeing Hayden here would be a great way of bringing things full circle. I'm still holding out hope we're gonna see Anakin's force ghost in the Ahsoka show interacting with Luke and Ahsoka. Assuming that Shitquel Trilogy is remaining canon, Disney needs to tie up the loose ends why Obi/Anakin's force ghosts are no where to be found.
This is interesting but I still like the original cuts of the OG trilogy without any special additions but would he nice to have separate versions so everyone can be happy instead of just re editing the original work
If there's one part of the original trilogy that I wish they'd go back and redo now, its this scene, officially, with Hayden. Given that he is now 42, nearly the same age as Vader was in this scene, it would finally come full circle and fully connect Anakin from the prequels and the original trilogy together.
This is a tough one... one the one hand, I am a child of the 90s who remember a time pre-special edition and I feel like this ofc would do a great disservice to Sebastian Shaw. But it also tracks with Vader's age and makes for a deeper connection. The biggest reason for why this wouldn't feel as big of a crime as imagined is the fact that LUCAS HIMSELF edited in Hayden over Shaw during the force ghost scene, which means they could pretty much do whatever they want for consistency. They could even cgi over Alec Guinness there too if they felt so inclined, the possibilities are endless and the respect for original work is long gone, so what's stopping them?

As some have said before, Obi-Wan destroyed one side of Vader's helmet, Ahsoka destroyed another, but only Luke could take the helmet off.

I like the performance of Sebastian Shaw, but I wouldn't mind if they did this edit over his performance though he would still be the face movement you need to mimic. I can think of many og fans getting pissed over this so why not make two versions.

@Mr Spinner Why make it with David Prowse, that would be completely pointless, because it would not make any canonical sense. Darth Vader is meant to look like Anakin Skywalker which is Hayden Christensen. David Prowse was only ever the physical embodiment of Darth Vader.

This is really well made, especially with the inclusion of Hayden's voice. It makes the moment much more impactful in my opinion. I wish they made a version with this on Disney+ but also left viewers the option of watching the original version.

The deepfake makes him sound like he's actually struggling to speak, not only from the lack of respirator, but from his weakened vocal chords. As people also said, it matches much better with the character's age since he's not in his 60s, he's like 45. It also helps people connect with him better because the majority of fans have grown attached to prequel anakin. Shaw did a good job but we really are long overdue for a version with Hayden re acting this scene, they should make that the Disney plus version. Amazing edit, it feels real 👍👏🏻
Yeah... probably for the shots where you see Anakin's faces while using the double for Luke when his face isn't scene but keep the Mark Hamel shots when seeing his face.
Sebastian Shaw was around 77 years old in 1982 when he shot the scene. He was 9 years OLDER than Alec Guinness.
In the documentary "I am your Father" they reshoot this scene with David Prowse. If they would have done that at that time, Prowse was the age Anakin would be, according to SW cronology. Anyway this video is amazing

I agree but Deepfake technology is a fairly 'new' thing (at least compared to what is possible now). I know they did it back in 94 with The Crow but the technology has just recently matured to a level which makes the illusion almost believable.
Well, Lucas still managed to upset a lot of people over that change. Imagine the outrage if he CGIed Hayden's face here. :D

I’m gonna be honest - this is great work, it really is. But I will always love the original with this scene, the original guy just delivers it perfectly and you can really feel it when he says ‘you already have, Luke’ it just hits home.

Not gonna lie now that we have the technology I kinda want them to do this, as people said no disrespect to Sebastian but this would help connect the two trilogy’s even more. But if not I am fully satisfied with the Hayden ghost we already have in Return of the Jedi.
We will possibly get more force Ghost Hayden in the Ahsoka series. Hayden is part of the cast. Unless he's only there for flashbacks...I think George Lucas meant to use Hayden as a force ghost if he made sequels to the OT.

Seeing Hayden's face in this mod makes this scene actually emotional now because you can connect his face to the character from the prequels. The real scene never had any emotional impact on me because you never had seen the actors face until this point therefor having no connection to the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker.
What? the whole point of Vader in the OT is that you never get a good glance of his face which leaves some to either believe he may either be a droid or a person under the suit until the reveal.

Who did Vader's voice over? That was magnificent! It had a much deeper vibration tone on par with the voice of James Earl Jones at the time. Add in voice effects and it would sound closer to Vader's original in-helmet voice.

I never noticed it until someone pointed it out to me recently, listen to the blaster fire as part background noise! Stormtroopers, Imperial Officers, and Regs are "fragging" eachother of the limited seats on the shuttles and in the escape pods.
Adds to the horror that the people on the station were experiencing in those final moments.

I would honestly have this edit in Return of the Jedi, albeit done as professionally as possible, with Hayden Christensen playing the role. I know fans would throw a hissy fit over removing Sebastian Shaw from the film completely, but I cautiously take Star Wars' fans criticisms and complaints with a pinch of salt when so many of them have either made the stupidest, biased, childish, hypocritical complaints I've ever seen, or at least made themselves look worse than what they dislike even if their criticisms are valid. It's people like them who bullied Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best to where the former developed mental health issues, and the latter almost threw himself from the Brooklyn Bridge. Hope that's worth it for a work of FICTION that you're not involved in!
But going back to my point, let me explain...
I never saw anyone complain about Marjorie Eaton and Clive Revill being removed from The Empire Strikes Back to redo Palpatine's part with Ian McDiarmid. And why? Because the former two didn't make as much of an impression in that scene as Ian did later on, and with all he did on top of that over the decades to follow, it only made sense to have his part in that film redone. Ian's version of the character became the definitive one. It would be the exact same logic in replacing Sebastian Shaw completely with Hayden Christensen; the former had so little time to make enough of an impression as Anakin compared to all that Hayden did for the character thereafter, and people mainly recognise the latter as the definitive Anakin. Shaw's ghost version of Anakin was replaced anyway for this same reason (plus the fact Anakin never looked like that prior to his injuries) - might as well go all the way. And Hayden's reached his 40s now, which is where Anakin is here; not in his 70s like what Shaw was during filming.
The way this scene is shot makes me question whether Sebastian Shaw and Mark Hamill were both present. Their faces never share the screen. It looks like they used stand-ins.
Normally I would say don't mess with the theatrical version but this I could get behind.

i eliminated the voice by muting one specific channel (Voice) in premiere (i had a dolby version so i had 5 audio channels). Then i let an Hayden impersonator re-record sebastians lines and put it in sync with the lips.

Surprisingly it still kinda looks like the original actor
So, the distortions almost make it look like the projected spirits in the Haunted Mansion at Disney World--particularly the one within the crystal ball. lol.
They could have filmed Hayden into these scenes back when they did the DVD editions. Luke's face and Anakin's are never in the same shot. They could have just as easily put a Luke double to provide the back of his head for the shots we see Hayden. :P

As much as I love Hayden as Anakin, this doesn’t sit right. Lucas kept the same actor for a reason. He just took off the eye brows because of him being burned. That was a better change than just adding Hayden’s face to his. Because if George did that, he might as well put Ewan’s face over Alec’s. Again, I love Hayden as Anakin and a young suited Darth Vader, but Vader was in his late 40’s to early 50’s. I know Hayden is 41, but adding his face to the OG Vader doesn’t sit right. Lucas wouldn’t want that. He kept most of the stuff in the OT the same, he just added better quality and visuals to complete his vision as the original cuts were incomplete and outdated. They wouldn’t sit well with todays time. He only did what he could at that time because it was the only technology he could use for the originals. It was a good start. But as time passed, he improved the OT. Which is just a fact. Let’s face it
GL literally casted Ewan McGregor largely cuz he looked like a young Alec Guiness. Sebastian Stan looks nothing like Hayden Christensen. Seeing Hayden here would be a great way of bringing things full circle.

Assuming that Shitquel Trilogy is remaining canon, Disney needs to tie up the loose ends why Obi/Anakin's force ghosts are no where to be found.

If there's one part of the original trilogy that I wish they'd go back and redo now, its this scene, officially, with Hayden. Given that he is now 42, nearly the same age as Vader was in this scene, it would finally come full circle and fully connect Anakin from the prequels and the original trilogy together.

This is a tough one... one the one hand, I am a child of the 90s who remember a time pre-special edition and I feel like this ofc would do a great disservice to Sebastian Shaw. But it also tracks with Vader's age and makes for a deeper connection. The biggest reason for why this wouldn't feel as big of a crime as imagined is the fact that LUCAS HIMSELF edited in Hayden over Shaw during the force ghost scene, which means they could pretty much do whatever they want for consistency. They could even cgi over Alec Guinness there too if they felt so inclined, the possibilities are endless and the respect for original work is long gone, so what's stopping them?
