Auto Repair Guys a
My timing belt came off my 2015 Ford Fiesta... every mechanic that I been to has given me answers that are way over priced. And saying could take a week to be fixed And I already have the belt. What’s best way to get my vehicle worked on at reasonable price and time.
If the lifting valve is hitting, how do I fix that
1:28:24
I'll be the first to say this. You made it way more difficult than it needs to be.
You don't need to pull the suspension apart and remove the half shaft to get to the bolt where the crank locking pin goes.
You don't need to remove anything off of the top end of the engine and use the cam locking tool. That's what the VCT tool for the sprockets is for. That cam locking tool is for older cars that don't have VCT sprockets.
You don't need to pull the intake manifold to remove the starter. Remove the charge pipe, move some other minor stuff out of the way, pull the starter.
For those wondering, the flywheel locking tool is Ford part #303-393. If you search for that, you will find 3rd party tools that are the same as the Ford tool.
It appears the half shaft is different on the ST. My 2012 Fiesta base doesn't have an intermediate shaft like this, maybe it's only on the manual transmission versions? On most of them the crank locking pin bolt is easy to access without removing the half shaft. Thanks for the tips about not needing to remove the valve cover with the VCT sprockets! Saves half the labor here!
Correct. You also do not need to pull the starter or use a crank holding tool. Ford procedure says to torque the crank pulley bolt to 74lbs using the crankshaft pin to hold the pulley. The pin will hold 74lbs just fine but ofcourse it is not strong enough for the final torque stages. At this point the timing is locked in so remove the crank pin and complete the final torque process using a strap wrench (303-D055) to hold the crank pulley. I used an OTC 4754 universal pulley holding tool to hold the pulley instead of the strap wrench and it worked perfectly.
Got a question for you. I’m doing this on my escape, in order for the Cam Locker to fit, the TDC locking pin had to be like one thread out from being all the way tight. That allowed the cam locker to fit. Could the belt have been stretched just enough to make it so the cam locker was a little off with the TDC pin screwed ALL the way in? Trying to decide weather to leave it becasue these timing kits could be a little off as far as the accuracy of the TDC length, or do I screw the TDC pin all the way in and then manually move the cams to where they can be locked in place?
@@bigscurrybear This is really interesting to read. How does the Ford procedure say to undo the crankshaft pulley bolt? Or to hold the crankshaft against the timing pin when changing the belt? Or is it not supposed to move? I need to change the belt on my Fiesta so I am wanting to learn all about it and not have to remove the starter to fit a locking tool. Many thanks.

Hello.. here in the Philippines we did not use any special tools, we dont have that tools but we performed changing belt of ecosport ford by simply looked at the timing mark of the camshaft and put lond screw driver on the sparkplug hole once the screw driver riches on tdc we simply put a bolt in the crankshaft locking area and turn it clockwise once the bolt was set we turned it counterclockwise to lock the crankshaft and the camshat were set into its timing... im just sharing our own way of techniques.. thanks for the knowledge
Guys you deserve a medal for going through all this just to show us how to do it on a car that didn't even need the belt replaced. Usually I do everything myself except tires and alignments, however when the time comes I think I will just have a dealer do mine.
1900 dollars from our local dealer.
Fords never used to be like this! This is good for who owns one these. I like your suggestion of " If you want something easier to work on, A Hyundia"
I know. I'm past Ford, but they quit selling cars entirely, spare the Mustang. To me, they don't really exist as an automaker anymore, but a manufacturer of government, industrial fleet vehicles.
The 98 people that gave this a thumbs down clearly haven't worked on a big project like this. This video (and all your others) are super helpful in understanding the best way to fix what is needed without a lot of trial and error.
tightening the crank bolt in degrees needs to be done smoothly in 1 motion to stretch the bolt correctly not kicking a breaker bar with you foot until you reach you finish!
When you make a video. Make sure you know what you are doing. These two are noobs.
i agree with some of the comments. you have made a lot of work for your self. i also believe that with both cams and crank locked. new belt on and tensioned. i always slacken off the cam bolts replace if needed. this will transfer any remaining slack from the right side to the left side of the timing belt system. unless i have been doing it wrong all these years lol
you are right... the purpose of replace the belt is of course to re-tension that area between the two cams..
I can't thank you enough!! You guys have helped me out so much!! Also I bought the tool you recommended and the crank shaft pulley holder center part snapped and fell in where the flywheel is, let's hope everything goes well 😃
Well i much appreciated the whole video whether it needed all the steps or not.It was an enjoyable watch throughout and its great to see how everything comes apart and too see how to use the special tools.

Jedini, ispravno podešen položaj za zamenu kaiša. Bravo, najbolji snimak. 👍👍👍👍
i think you don't need to remove the valve cover to install the cam shaft locking tool..the camshaft sprocket locking tool do the same thing..like the timing belt holding the cam sprocket..unless you remove the cam sprocket then thats the time you need to install the camshaft locking tool..correct me if im wrong..thanks
great work guys, cant believe Ford made it so difficult to replace a service item, takes half the time on a nAudi A1
Great Video for Gaining insight on what needs to happen. To everyome commenting that it can be done easier, add a link where its done easier and the engine starts at the end its easy to criticize
Great video, the crank pick up is something I didn't know about compared to the older engine. 👍
I love the dogs accent .... GOOD JOB guys..
I just did a Head gasket on a 2014 fusion 1.6l. It was leaking coolant into cyl#4 when off. Fun fun fun!
Just recommend removing the caliper and brake rotor assembly... we damaged ours accidentally with the hammer removing the lower control arm... great video!
if your not changing the belt do u have to remove the starter if your only setting the timming after changing the water pump or can i just pull the axle bracket and valve cover??
Thank you for making this video, im going to use it to do the timing belt and coolant pump on my 2013 Escape 1.6!
How did it go?
You boys know your shit .. I enjoyed watching you work 👍
one thing I would add. you need to ratchet strap an a wrench to hold the crank against the bolt/tool that holds the crank in the right position BEFORE you put the tool that holds the flywheel in order to remove the old bolt and tighten the crank pully.
1:24:05 Good example of foot pounds of torque
wow that a lots of work, good job good teaching thanx .but i beleave you should change the water pump ,because what if it breack soon
Question about Ford Fiesta 2015 1 liter petrol eco boost. Would you need to remove fuel rail as well in order to change timing belt (also they did oil pump and its belt) ? Asking cause this one autoworkshop done mine and a week later fuel starts pissing threw injectors. I assumed going there that they put it wrong or not tight. Heard that you need to put brand new seals and they are not in the invoice. However, it looked like they did not agree with me today, not their fault. Been all right for 3 years and now all of sudden it's not working properly if they touched it.
Will you guys do a clutch replacement on the 2015 ST anytime soon? That would be a great video to do.
Thanks for putting this great video together. I was able to use it to replace my timing belt. However, after putting everything back together, I have a 1cm gap between the timing belt cover and the engine just above the cam gears. Tried everything but the gap remains. Any ideas?
Why disassembling the engine to add one more tool for alignment where you can use the tool from the timing belt side to make sure it is aligned? I have seen it without getting the whole engine apart to add extra alignment tool?!
Jesus thats an insane amount of work for a timing belt 😲
for such a simple car too 😳
They made it harder than it needed to be, you dont need remove half the things they did to do this job.
They turn simple timing belt replacement job into a nightmare, why did they pull half of the engine apart I'll never know..
Let me introduce you to the Hyundai Sigma 3.5L V6. I’m so glad those things aren’t worth putting maintenance into anymore lol
i got also ford fiesta,i would like to know what's the possible cause of mixed oil and water spilling from the air cleaner. i hope you could share some info. thanks.
Change Oil Cooler. But make sure that your Cooling fan is not defective.. Possible cause. Is overheating
Can anyone help me to understand how i put my pistons in position for the timing and where do the pistons need to be in comparison to where the camshafts/campulleys sit?
Good dAY what size is this engine? does this engine have cam phasers?
Thanks for the great content. Did mine yesterday - that took a lot of time to say the least! :)
Think it easier to take out engine to work on it. Or drop it out gearbox and all to work on it.?
Good job! Great work with the video
I need help. I have my harmonic balancer bolt out but the balancer refuses to slip off. What am I doing wrong?
These engines are a pain wise up ford. Buy a ford and be treated like our engines are invincible. Not good enough. Great videos guys.
My crankshaft pulley bolt won t come out no matter what I try .. can I use the bump start technique ?
Also, the starter is a pain to get to. Can I torque the new pulley bolt using TDC pin ? Thanks
But not the less, it was an excellent video
Oh Ford....I can't wait to do mine.
These guys extremely overcomplicated things.. don't be discouraged when you see videos like this. I know this comment is two years old but just Incase I'll tell you it's better to make the investment for a service manual.
I'm doing a Ford Fiesta 1.6. My 1.6 "J" code engine is nothing like the one you are showing. Mine is verified as a "sigma 1.6". This was verified through the dealer.
Can you shed some light on this job. Do you have a video that shows the 1.6 sigma j code configuration.
Guys I need to change the guide seals how do I go about that
Hi, is it same engine as 1.6 EcoBoost in Mondeo 2012? 118kw - JTBA engine?
Bro really great information thanks
If the phasers weren’t timed properly and the engine wasn’t accelerating at all with the pedal floored. Can I just remove the belt and turn the cams
When I’m unscrew the main pulley screw, I’m not lock the crank shaft. What should I do Sir?
Super Excellent Video!!! Thank you so much! From a maintenance perspective, this engine has got to be one of the worse designs I've seen! Leave it to Ford...
Saludossss desde mexicoo!!!!!
Thanks for the video. 2014 Ford Fusion Manual Trans. replace Water Pump, but didn't replace timing belt (yes I know), was hoping to avoid all the timing stuff. Did not remove crank pully, held belt in place, removed tensioner, and put in new one, but did not do any of the timing locks (starter, pin behind axle shaft, but did use the cam lock tool on the front where the belt sits. Job is done, car seems to run fine, but now I'm getting cam, crank timing codes P00017. :( I assume I need to do it all over again this time with the timing tools and replace the belt. IF timing is off, I assume I don't want to lock it down where it is presently?
I did the same on my fiesta thought I could do the water pump and justlock timing in with wedges, now I have pops and bangs over 2000rpm so I'm tearing down again 😢
@@kchappie6672 I did tear down again, I used the lock pin on block (behind passenger axle shaft mount) and the cam shaft lock on the front side. I reset the timing belt and fixed the code issue I was having. It's running great with no codes.
you guys ROCK! thank you.
So both the repair manual and this video both reference possibly needing to rotate the camshafts slightly to install the tool to lock the cams in place but neither describe how to do so... Can anyone explain how i can rotate the cams slightly to get the tool in place? I have the engine at TDC and the locking tool in the flywheel both of the specialty tools are just slightly off and will not slide on.
What did you end up doing?
I need to get new fog lights a d the end covers. Where is a good place to buy from?
Use Kroil Ol to break hardware loose ... best stuff I have ever used in 50 years
I have a question, why are you changing the timing belt with only 11000 miles on the car? Or is it only because of the video for youtube as I teach you that I see it very well
He literally say's for demonstration purposes in the video... All his videos are for demonstration.
great job, as usual.
Are the torque settings the same for a 2011 fiesta crank bolt?
Hello, can I ask for an explanation? At minute 1.18.10 you can see that the crankshaft crown wheel moves freely, how does it lock when tightening the bolt since there are no hooks? Thank you.
All that and ya didn’t replace the water pump??
They didn't replace the belt either, they put the old one back in.
this video would loose ford alot of sales lollol wow the work need to get at a belt but great video lads
What size were the nuts you used to secure the flywheel locking tool? I'll be doing the timing belt on my 2011 Fiesta next soon. Thanks!
Good thing my 2010 focus has a timeing chain
Hey bud, I'm trying to look for the oem crankshaft bolt I can't find the one for turbo. do you know the part number by any chance?
Where did you get the tool to hold the flywheel the one were the starter goes in
there is a link in the video description
What km do you recommend changing the belt
If you lock the in the cams and have a bolt on the side of the block that the crank will contact thus disabling rotation and verify timing positions; why does Ford recommend removing starter and locking the flywheel as well🤔??? I do realize that the tool at the flywheel will lock it in in both rotations of crank as where the bolt on the side of block will lock it only in one direction of rotation BUT the crank is not under spring load like the cam shafts are from valve spring tension. I have serviced the Ford 2.3 naturally aspirated for timing belt many times only using the bolt that inserts on the side of block and locking in the cam shafts. These are essential since the nose of crankshaft does not have a keyway for the crank pulley to slot in as it depends on the crank bolt to clamp down everything in but i do not see the importance of the locking tool at the flywheel....plz explain it has me very curious.....BTW great in depth content 👍.
Come back the days when all that was involved in a Cambelt change was 4 bolts cover off water pump 4 bolts pump which actually tensiond the belt but that was a Vauxhall
. Nowhere days it would appear a lot simpler to change the entire engine.. I do believe this happens a lot.
I have ford fiesta 2011 with broken timing belt so do you think is bent the valve?
At what miles the belt Brock down?
?
How many miles did it break
Is this timing tool can be used in to 1.2 tivct petrol engine?
I suggest use a marking paint on your crankshaft bolt at 6 o’clock and when you turn it clockwise, you wil find the mark at the 9 o’clock position and 9.5 position.
Will the timing belt be the cause of a loud ticking noise from under the valve cover?
No that's the injectors or HPFP
You did 3 times as much work as you needed to. Its much simpler than you made it. Never ever change a timing belt without changing the water pump.
These guys are cowboy!
They HAD a cam gear living tool, and they didn't use it 🤣🤯
The rocker cover did NOT need to be removed. 😂
Holly shit, you have done 5xs the work necessary….
Why is it necessary to put the crankshaft fly wheel tool in if you have the TDC pin in.. what am I missing???
I agree, I thought I was the only one who thought that!😊
What are the Size of the nuts needed for the flywheel liking tool please ?
Can anyone tell me how long this process takes
Ford calculates 3.6 hours
This is a very good reason why I will NOT buy a FORD. I have an Elantra same year as your Silver one and runs perfect and 102K miles with a TIMING CHAIN:) Never need to worry or replace!
I love the elantra. It is so much easier to work on
Timing chains get slack after 100k miles eventually they cause engines to fail
All the bolts together 😱
Good day Auto Repair Guys. How do i move my camshaft to a 12 0'clock position? My crankshaft only moves about 180 degrees to 8 o'clock position and back to 2 o'clock position. whilst doing this, my TDC pin is installed and i haven't removed the old cam belt yet.
Its okay. I managed to sort it out myself
@@azwinems1974 how did you do it?
Send these guys some tools!
I've 2016 Focus SE 2.0L GDI Flex fuel . engine . Can someone tell me if loose timing band will bend rods and valves ? One says yes another says no way . What's the truth ?? verry hard to find a good mechanic
You have a timing chain, not a belt
Say if mine breaks my engine is done ?
I did one as oil was leaking fro. The cam phaser
OK. Go on. Big brother I like the way u did. Thank to share this videoto the publish.
How do I time it if belt broke !? Will it automatically go on Tdc with the tdc bolt !?
Valves are done you need a junk yard motor
can you give me the distribution belt code
Do you really need to lock the camshafts at the other end when you already locked them on the vvt pulleys?
VVT as the name implies, is variable. You need to lock both the cam and the VVT phasers at TDC for this job.
@@mohdazmizain7837 The instruction on the Ford Etis software were that you don't need to lock the back of the camshafts for a timingbelt job.
The VVT unit has a spring operated locking bolt which locks the depahser and the camshafts together when there is low oil pressure.
I did the Timing belt change on this engine 5 days ago and i only locked the VVT unit with the X-tool... no problems or codes afterwards. runs smooth
Auto Repair Guys - Please send link or post video on how to replace Clutch Master Cylinder
merci beaucoup pour vidéo
Nice job
Nope, I’ll take it to Ford, spend $800 to have someone spend 6-10 hours changing it for me. 2 shifts of overtime should cover it.
My Ford dealer told me 7k
@@matthewcesario2069 7k to do the timing belt? lol
I took my pre face-lift 1.6 titanium to the mechanic and it didn't take long after, before it starts to have some huge leg. Could it be the wrong procedure or something else. It's a 2009 model, but made at the end of 2008.
@@Fanzo463 If it was the moment you started it after getting it back, then they did something wrong. If it was weeks or months later, it is something else. Could be a throttle position sensor, an idle air control valve, fuel purge solenoid valve. Check engine lights are a great starting point if you got one illuminated.
@@BtRct There's nothing that appears on the dashboard. I'll have to check what you've mentioned.
Thank you brother
Please get you a battery powered ratchet guy .... Saves tons of time
mark the mark and change the belt..not need to disassemble the whole engine ..😉
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I know of mechanics who didn't use the right tools and damaged the engine.
TipEx mechanic ..lol
Hi does anyone know the torque setting for the timing belt tensioner please?
18 ft,lb
exelent video guys
My goodness you took the engine apart to do a simple job. Timing belt can be done without doing all of that. A cam locking tool is out there to lock the cam shafts from the lobes.
The only thing that chnges is not having to remove the vacuum pump. Still have to pull intake for starter, for flywheel lock. Still have to remove valve cover to install even the tool you suggested. If you cut corners on this job, youll buy an engine.
@@joeyvencill792 That is incorrect. You do not have to remove the Valve cover at all. They pulled all the intake off and the valve cover. Hopefully people watch other videos before doing the job.
How are to lock the cams without removing the valve cover?
I saw a flash of the timing kit they had and in that kit was the plate to lock the cams from the front so no need to take the rocker cover off at all. Time up without removing drive shaft with the pin, lock cams. Whiz the crank bolt with an impact jobs a good un. lot of work here I gotta say!
The cost is all in the labour charged ...right
Are you guys still active
This is ridiculous, that's why I dont own a ford.... mi wife loved her fiesta until recently started to overheat at 69k miles. After two advices from different mechanics they told us that we need to replace the timing belt, tensioner water pump and thermostat all at once. Wtf , fords are made cheaply and have a disposable design.
Well look on the brighter side of things....they recycle beer cans n turn em into F150s...well at least that is what my can crusher says "help build a Ford one can at a time". My advice to you is buy anything japanese engineered and for the most part you would be buying quality. The only thing i do not like is parts when rarely needed tobe replaced, are/can be super hard to find and expensive.
Isn't this job scheduled for something like 150,000mi ? did this one really need to be done?
Timing belts don't usually last over 150,000 miles. You can chance it but if it breaks you will need a rebuilt engine as the valves will slam into the pistons and destroy stuff.
@@JLUDE01 if it's the factory recommended interval, I don't see how it's taking too big of a risk.
@@deviouslaw Agreed. Some people change them early to be on the safe side. I'm changing one now on a work vehicle with 180,000 miles and the belt still looks OK but why risk it? If the engine goes on this vehicle it's not worth repairing because the vehicle is worth next to nothing now. High mileage and Ford do not translate to resale.
They said if it's a dual overhead cam engine it's not an interference engine that won't bend the valves if the belt breaks
What sucks for me is I gotta do this on my sisters car for free
Rich Wilson 😂
With all the escape engines out there wouldnt it be easier to let the engine die and drop in a new one
exellent/worth time consuming.
Good
