  • The other day PNW components asked me to try out their new Coast dropper post and see what I thought of it. I figured what better way to test a product than having a highschool kid try it out and hear what they have to say haha!
    Check out their website for more information - bit.ly/2XaVNOp
    This was a fun little project to do and Darcy truly loved the seat post. She has kept it on her bike and even won her last race with it! Huge thanks to PNW and Nashbar for making this happen.
    Definitely check out the post if you have a gravel or mountain bike that needs a little extra squish. Let me know if you have any questions too!

    Thanks for the helpful review!! I was just researching whether dropper posts generally "squished" a little when raised, like how some forks do even when locked out, because it seemed to me like that might be a nice feature for my hardtail. Surprisingly what I found were all *complaints* when it starts happening and how to fix and service droppers... Then I came across the Coast that intentionally squishes - and it's a great price. It looks like it's aimed more towards urban commuters and gravel riders than XC and trail riders, but I'm still thinking it would be nice for my rough desert riding (varied XC/trail/AM) - not losing climbing efficiency but sparing my pelvis from this crushing Martian hellscape. I like my lightweight carbon post, but I'm even closer now to pulling the trigger on a Coast. Thanks again.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I think for the right customer this is awesome and the main difference is that you can adjust the threshold of the squish with this post whereas the other posts that go bad just lose some of their functional travel and have no threshold on the top.

    I ordered a PNW Coast and a Loam Lever back in the summer of 2020 with a Performance discount code that you (thanks K&A) provided. With the big shortage on bicycles and parts this year it didn't arrive until almost Thanksgiving. Put it on today and looking forward to riding with it tomorrow. First dropper, and the shock absorption will be a plus. Now I need to review your video on how/when to use a dropper ;-)

    You talked me into it! I've been intrigued about dropper posts since my wife got a nice mountain bike recently and it had one. My only off road bike is a fat bike with no dropper post and no suspension. The PNW Coast seems like the way to go for me, so I ordered one and a loam lever kit. Nice savings after using your discount code too!!!
    Have you thought of doing a How To on using a dropper post? I've got a basic idea but I'm sure some tips from you would be really helpful for your audience. Thanks.

    April 25, 2021, Kyle if you revisit this page, how is that Coast dropper doing today? I was going to buy one last year but I questioned the durability of such a complicated drop/shock post. I didn't buy it at the time. But if Darcy is still riding it today then that might indicate good durability.

    This is a new idea to me .... why did she change from a full suspension bike to a HT in the first place? And why then head back towards suspension with this post? Whats the benefit in those transitions?

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey! So she changed to hardtail for cross country racing because the hardtail has more efficiency when pedaling. On a full suspension bike the rear shock will absorb some of your pedal power and thats why most racers will use a hardtail. This seatpost really allows the rider to experience the benefit of a hardtail without taking the really harsh impacts while seated pedalling associated with the lack of suspension

    Just saw this post when looking for one for a friend, quite interesting for HT/Rigid riders. Curious though about your neighbors setup, you moved her from a post with some good setback and the saddle a bit back on the rails to a post with no setback and centered on the rails - looks like she's too far over the BB on this new post. Curious as to if she kept the post to ride longer and was she fitted properly for the bike before installing it? How did her knees like the new position?

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      FYI just so u understand when u saw the seat go up and down that was not the suspension part of it working. Like he said in the video it's only the top of it that has a Lil give to take the edge off. Just didn't want you to think the whole thing was a shock with 6in of travel lol. Idk if u know what a dropper post is. But search that. Then come back to this in U'll have a better understanding of how this seat works. If u didn't understand what he was saying. Either way I think it could be nice for long rides on a hard tail or gravel bike like he said. Good Luck!

      Hey sorry, this was one of my earlier TH-cam videos and I really wasn’t sure what I was doing or what a viewer would want to see. I was planning on doing a more in depth one eventually on the coast. It’s a great dropper post and has been awesome to have on a hardtail. It has an adjustable air suspension threshold that you can set to match your body weight so that the post isn’t just spongy. If you have any other questions let me know
