- This video I will be taking a look at the Orion browser for Mac. We'll look at how it works, how it compares to Safari, go over the best Orion browser features and most importantly try to answer if the orion browser is better than chrome.

In a recent media statement, Mahatma Gandhi (founder of Google), wrote that scrolling back up to smash the like button makes your browser track 24,3% less of your data
OK!
omg how did you do that come on tell me
disliking? (it is what i did, i am also on firefox so you can't do anything about it 😈)
no the emoji at the last i have the dislike button counter extention in my arc too
@@BaldiReycaster
But I already liked, does that mean they are going to steal all my data? 🥺
This browser is also developed by Kagi, a premium and privacy friendly search engine
Been using Orion on my iPad for youtube ad blocking. Its a pretty flawless experience. Its interesting to see how it runs on MacOS.
it's been pretty good to me
bro i saw the browser, searched on app store the browser and downloaded it, finally i can browse the net without ads plzzzz my heart cant take it im loving this!!!!!!!!!!!
Has TH-cam cracked down on their ad blocker yet? TH-cam forces me to disable ad blockers I use for Safari. Might be worth keeping this browser installed just to use TH-cam if it can successfully disable the ads
Doing my part to boost this because Orion is lovely and def my favourite browser atm
Haha, cheers! Thx for watching
Excuse me, can you repeat everything you said? I was staring at the mouse the whole time waiting for it to change location again.
Which browser are you sticking with for now? I drool at the sight of Orion's power efficiency but I can't bring myself to switch to it until it has an implementation of tab groups/spaces thats close to as intuitive as Arc's. I hate dropdown menus and keyboard shortcuts for that sort of thing and am addicted to Arc's swipe gesture for it. Also, the color customization helps create much better separation between spaces.
Right now I'm still using Orion since I switched to fully a few weeks ago to get the full experience for this video. There are a couple annoying things like the bugs and some extensions not working so I'm not sure if I'll stay with it or not.
@@bogxdyou stick with it or did you change?
I did, to Safari xd@@MemeScreen
@@bogxdThat's exacly the same experience as I had. Firefox -> Orion -> Arc -> Orion -> Safari. Still lacks some extensions but it's better now
SigmaOS has similar “workspace” functionality as Arc but is WebKit-based like Orion (and thus is more power-efficient than Arc).
Nah google knew this browser was too good, when I played the video I got a ad for google chrome 😂
sort of switched (or am in the process/thinking of switching) to orion because of the energy efficiency point - noticed that arc does actually use significantly more battery life than orion (difference of multiple hours), and that's with only using an adblocker extension (for both). ive also caught arc bringing my mac temps really high when ive had multiple tabs + a youtube video open whereas with safari (and orion so far) ive seen none of those issues. im using an m1 MacBook Air
I am also using M1 MacBook Air and I wanna ask about how much Ram does it consume, is it less than safari or what ?
im the opposite. used to use Orion a lot but switched to Arc because of the features
Would love to see a video on SigmaOS browser.
I'm thinking of switching to Orion. I've heard about it before but never really wanted to use it until this video. I have used many browsers but still stuck with Safari because of the way it looks and the way it works. Might switch in the next couple of days when I get the time! Also, congrats on 40k subscribers!
Aye, cheers!
I like safari if extensions aren’t apps and actually extensions but Orion edges out arc because you can do share and sync Apple devices
I came to this video to see if Orion was any good but as it says Do Not Install It I won't. Thanks for the heads up.
I think any browser should offer both horizontal and vertical tabs for users to choose from
Yeah, after using vertical tabs once I can’t go back
Arc is the greatest
It also supports Firefox extensions. Try those if the Chrome ones don't work.
what's up with the mouse?
Bro you're funny asf
Laughed so many times whilst watching the video.
Especially needed since I just stopped playing after losing 5 Compi Matches back-to-back lmao.
Also, there's so many Browsers nowadays bruv.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Opera GX, Vivaldi, Brave, Safari, Arc, Zen and now this.
could you make a vid on Floorp ?
What is your wallpapaer? love it!!
but why do you keep emphasising using the keyboard shortcuts, its almost as if you are flexing using basic features
Pretty sure Arc is going to fully kill Orion, they're going for the same exact demographic, aka macbook tech bros. Arc has way stronger team behind it, Arc is going to be platform-universal, and chrome extensions will never have issues with running
Arc eats away at my battery life, so i switched back to orion
I prefer Arc over Orion - or any other web browser atm. I have to say, though, that, weirdly enough, Edge is a close 2nd!
why does my brain precieve Orion as Onion
same
I think this one looks great but I am probably still going to stick with the Arc Browser since they're still running fine and I have seen no issue so far.
fr
oh, Orion is just safari but with Chrome and Firefox extensions.
if it comes to android, i might try since webkit. There's no webkit based browser on android or windows, or limux.
I'm a huge fan of orion, and was since I discovered it a year ago. Compared to Arc it was less demanding on battery and my mac was also running cooler. However, I wanted something more stable. Year passed, saw your video and I'm dissapointed it's still buggy. So, maybe lose your hopes about it getting better anytime soon
Hey bro! Witch mouse do you use?
Thank you but it'd be great if you make some privacy test on it
Hey Bog, Shifted to Mac fully, Which Mouse Would you suggest for graphic design purpose? I found using trackpad slow for Photoshop work. Thanks in advance
I haven't tested most mice out there but from the ones I have tested so far the Keychron M3 is my favourite. Works well with Bluetooth, looks nice, has a USB-C dongle.
Wow this thing is shocking fast. Where has it been all my life
I absolutely love your humour 😂
wish i had this for windows
I had to stop using Orion for a bit because every webpage would crash repeatedly. Problem was not fixed for multiple updates. It's fixed now but it sure was annoying I couldn't use my primary browser for over a month...
I’m not happy that it’s not open source. I’d use it on iOS if it were. I’ll be waiting to see if they go through with it, I’ve been bit a few too many times with apps that promise to go open source and just sell off your data and disappear.
How did you manage to increase the "margin" of your top bar? It's very different from mine, it appears to have more vertical space. Also, great video, I'm waiting for the answer.
Thanks! It's this size by default on any MacBook's screen that has a notch.
@@bogxd Oh, :(. Has a any way to define this configuration for desktop?
Under system settings -> accessibility -> display, there is a menu bar size option. but I don't think it will do the same thing. @@erickrobert
@@bogxd Dont same thing 😢. But thanks for replie. S2
On Edge you can switch to vertical tabs with the keyboard shortcut control + shift + comma 😄
The reddit post forgot to put Edge on comparison, which is much better than Chrome (both on Win and Mac), it has all of it's extensions (100% works) and it uses much less resource.
I've tried Orion, but it's buggy, and the vertical tabs are not cool as it is on Arc or Edge (It doesn't auto collapse, giving you more window space), and that is the most important feature on browsers for me today.
lmfao the reddit post has an update and edge was the only browser to do worse than chrome 💀💀
Fellow unhook user, I also have serious addiction to YT
looks nice, but im gonna stick with Arc.
This mice moves with the speed of a frame, well played though
Its unfortunate Orion doesnt work on Windows (as there isn't an official version still) on my iPhone Orion is amazing because it blocks out all those obnoxious ad elements, everything is soooo clean!
using a firefox fork with ublock origin is (imo) just as goos
i like arc better
bloated chromium-based slow ass browser that lags all the time lmfao
@@seizing It's Webkit based (Safari), like Orion. Also like Orion, it offers Chrome Extension support, but not because it's Chromium based. It's not, and that's why many extensions also don't work there like in Orion too.
@@oevers Actually, Arc is based on Chromium. SigmaOS is WebKit
Used to much Ram
@@oevers arc is definitely chromium based, it's mentioned on their website under FAQs and since it offers way more features and customizations, the memory hog is worse than chrome.
They charge 150 dollars for a lifetime license are you joking? Not to mention it seems like the biggest complaint is it's a buggy mess, which would only be made worse if they open-source it, which seems unlikely. No browser is worth 150 dollars.
It's not a "license" after all, it's a supporter sponsor since there's no premium features, they are all free, it will only allow you to get updates earlier while they're beta
did you even do your research? that tier is completely optional, it’s just meant for supporters so that orion can fund itself. also $150 for a lifetime tier is pretty normal, the thing that costs is the kagi search engine, however, IT’S LITERALLY OPTIONAL AND THERES MANY OTHER SEARCH ENGINES OUT THERE!
Not a fan of the separate passwords for Apple Passwords + Orion Passwords ("iCloud Sync?"). The passkeys are not effective either. They should be integrated like Safari for a more seamless experience.
its not possible to do because of the way apple sets up the keychain apis
I like Orion because it’s just a Safari but better but Arc is much better in everything it does shame that it stopped getting developed but won’t be deleted
whats your wallpaper btw great vid
Hello, thanks!, it's from my wallpaper pack
Does it support the Vimium extension?
My experience with Orion is that I got non stop captchas. Also certain extentions simply would not work. Uninstalled it in minutes!
bro pls use your Mouse because I am a new iMac user and I am using a mouse
he uses the keychron m3 mouse.
Bro any mac app to keep a window pinned on top all the time like Windows?
I think BetterTouchTool has this feature, not 100% sure though
Microsoft Edge is still the best on MacOS for now
agreed
hey bog, love the videos by the way, but could you make a video about the Beam browser (i switched from orion to beam - for now)? i know its not very well known, and development might have been stopped on it (we dont talk about that) but im trying it out and i like it
Apple's WebKit? No, I don't think so. I'll stick with Floorp.
Any tips on how to keep the keyboard clean??😭
wtf?
star citizen 0:03?
I legit thought it was called Onion browser
why is it still on beta? i wanna try the stable release, also gz on 40k bro!
ayee thx!
I like the new subscribe animation
Arc FOREVER 🫶
Bro created a tab group named "69" and thought we wouldn't notice.
What VPN extensions work with this browser? Hola didn't start ((
Honest question: why would you use an extension instead of an app? (e.g: Proton) ._. that would enable the VPN tunnel only for your browser
I JUST CAN'T WITH THE MOUSE XDDDDD
xd
As a windows user I’m crying
Why is that? xd
Orion!
(DarkWeb)
It's the mouse always changing position for me
Brave?
What about the Brave Browser?
literally a giant cryptocurrency ad
@@HaryanviKashmiri omg people need to stop listen to you
@@quantumHumans oh please brave has done so much shady things
unfortunately the mobile app for orion is currently very buggy
Hmm, I haven't tried it yet
Do you think that lemons should be eaten and worms shouldn't?
Whatls the mouse your use??
That's the Keycrhon m3
Nice, I will buy one too, your polling rate is a 1000hz? have this option in app? you use it with the usb c or bluetooth?? thanks for you attention@@bogxd
damn thank you soo much
what's the background song in the start of the video?
Joey Pecoraro - Russian Dance
Thx@@bogxd
some things reminded me of vivaldi
So it's basically almost like Vivaldi (even down to being buggy and having weird crashes) but built on Safari and (therefore) not cross-platform
It uses WebKit, which is developed by apple and used in Safari, but is completely cross-plaftorm and used in thousands of devices.
The Linux version of Orion is at its early stages, but it will come, and it will probably be GTK/WebKit. The Windows version will follow.
@@sonodima The only WebKit program on Windows I've seen is one of the testing targets for Playwright, a browser testing automation tool. I'm curious to see how it will look like and perform on Windows, if it ever arrives there.
Yo, why is the mouse backwards?! lmao
I was visiting Australia
So just a browser that does browser stuff?
Yep
No windows or Linux?
Nope... thats why I run Windows as an app in Parallels on MacOs because Windows sucks and I can browse without all the crap Windows users have to deal with.
I was going to comment I still prefer Arc, but I see others have already commented. So...... sike!
lol
Nobody talking about the reverse mouse?
xd
it sips too much battery only 5-6 hrs screen on time at 100% charge while chrome gives about 9-12 hrs and safari above 12 hrs on m3 pro mbp 14
does firefox use less battery than chrome ? i have air m1 and i don't know if i should use chrome or firefox i can't decide who consumes more battery
@@TheTuto2000 If the choice is Chrome vs anything... go with whatever else is being offered.
I also use unhook and ublock 😂
i like firefox
yeah, I like it too
Why is the mouse looking that way 😂😂
i use brave
Funniest review video that I've ever seen, Bog
IDC what fancy features it has I won't move to Mac or a Chromium browser.
Safari🔥🔥🔥🔥
"more entertainment" 😁😁
fun fact. "bog" is god in russian (бог)
fun fact. It's also a bathroom in British English xd, found out about both of these meanings too late
Arc better
Not to hate but everything Orion can do, so can pretty much every other browser
eerything os better than chrome (except opera(gx))
bro said ' is by go to' instead of 'is by going to' because Grammarly Orion version
😂 2:20 its just F11 in any browser)))
📲📲Orion should not have access to files and folders despite the WebKit built for Mac OS. The end user should grant permission first to ensure privacy and security of one's personal data. 📲📲
"You should install"
My ass looking at my non-Mac computers:
"I CAN"T"
I wish more browser would launch on windows and linux, why mac
what about edge ^ brAVE
Honestly I’d just use Arc
Having your mouse flipped around is seriously annoying the heck out of my brain
