"Black Betty" was Ram Jam's only big hit in 1977. But it is one of the most fun & energetic songs. Just some dudes hanging out in someone's back yard & jamming out. Love it! "Black Betty" is a 20th-century African-American work song often credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him. While some may think “Black Betty” refers to a woman, others claim it’s a nickname for any number of objects, including a bottle of whiskey, a whip, or even a penitentiary transfer wagon.
Well, what a day! Getting to hear this before I have an early Saturday, haven't heard this in forever and I am now totally happy 😊. Just came from new tom making heads explode once again to this classic treasure, don't care it makes me feel old, they were amazing. Thank you as always for the video and commentary, happy weekend everyone
The music of my youth!!! I believe it was performed by "Leadbelly" Ledbetter - the original tune I think referred to prisoners and the whip carried by abusive prison guards - but Ram Jam's version was more likely to reference a woman - but definitely had its origin in the blues

You rewind it because it's just not long enough... the rest of us play it on repeat!
It's basic southern Rock, & no there aren't any other songs of note by Ram Jam. Sadly. 😿🎶🎶🎵🎶🔥💯✌️☮️🕊️
