Now this is how literature should be taught!
I learnt more in this hour than during a whole semester.
I only wish my literature teacher was only a fraction as good as this lecturer is...
    Thank you!

Impressive, I am a freshman college student and was coming to watch this video as a review before class ( we read madman and Preface to a call to age). I was not expecting to learn so much about language and its relation to Confucius, “modern learning”, etc… Thank you so much for the information!
Have you made many videos about China and Koreas isolation movements and how western influence affected it?

This is great! We need to add more eastern philosophy and literature to the curriculum. There are universal truths that are merely part of the "human condition", these truths are universal and maybe the only thing that brings us together as humans. For example: Taoism and stoicism are very similar in many ways.

I know it is difficult to pronounce Chinese names, so I figured I would let you know that your pronunciation of words like Xun and Qing are off.
Chinese has two different sound that represent our "sh" and "ch". So when writing these in Latin letters, Q was used to represent one "ch" sound and X was used for "sh".
Because of this and the "un", Xun is pronounced more like "shween", likewise Qing is pronounced "ching".
    Keep up the great lessons.

Thank God the North Germans don't run around the Internet telling everyone how to pronounce stuff their way, because in reality every German speaking community has in fact their own way of pronouncing words. Someone from Vienna has an entirely different way to pronounce than someone from Zurich or Berlin, yet it's all German language. What is correct: làjí, lèsè, la chi, lah-sap, lap-gip, or laap6 saap3? Everything is, somewhere.

I wonder how Lu Xun would have written if he had known what the Cultural Revolution would be like.

    • @OrochiShaka
      @OrochiShaka 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I think he would have supported it at first like he supported the establishing of the new republic but quickly would have disliked it, also like he did with the republic.

@@OrochiShaka that’s right. Luxun is rational, sarcastic, and forward-thinking. In the beginning, he would support it, but after witness another type of “mind being confined”, he must be the first one to abhor it . Luxun is mind-clear than most of us.

with all due respect。Yi Ya lived during the Spring and Autumn Period in the State of Qi. He was Duke Huan of Qi's beloved chef. Once, Duke Huan of Qi had commented that the only food that he had yet to try was the flesh of an infant. Upon hearing this, Yi Ya steamed his own infant and served it to Huan. Jie and Zhou, however, were tyrant kings of an earlier age. The narrator is mistaken here, perhaps reflecting his mental state。 What ambiguity does this reflects?

Dream, imagination and illusion are not real until that really happen, ambigious for you but not for ppl who r on the same lvl or have exp things that couldn't be understand by normal ppl, when ppl said someone sick, is like you define something you r not yet realise yourself..

1:03:00 In Chinese, the word he uses 'mother and father' in Chinese contain some sense of dirty word, like 'mother fuck' in English.
1:05:20 'Save the chlidren' means save the children from been eaten, and save them from to eat.
1:06:05 actually, the lion, the rabbit and the fox, were not represent 3 kind of people, those 3 characters are exactly embodied in those normal people, to vulnerable people and children, they are lion, to sovereign and upper class, they are rabbit, to their neighbors, they are as cunning as fox.
