In that tragic world he described in A Madman's Diary(狂人日记), Lu Xun narrated a delirious eastern world that the cannibalism is deeply entrenched in people’s minds. Of course those catastrophe is all caused by the aggressive western men, those westerners have no hearts or emotions, they bullied those wholeheartedly good men in another side of the world! The culture and so-called decency, which the authority taught is mainly served the rich, authoritative, heterosexual male in that society, their dominant character is take all the advantages derived from poor laborers as granted, viewing women as animals which the primary purpose is fucking and reproducing. As a result, any other ideologies not fit with that were false and treasonous, therefore men holding those thoughts should be obliterated, they were garbages to that society. Another direct consequence of this dystopian is since the purpose of the society is serving rich men, most ordinary citizens were deprived many essential rights to life the day they were born, the cannibalism inevitably resided in their brain as a mean to obtain simple pleasure from a sadistic world. One of the most odd phenomenon in this dystopian is people were constantly stating that we thank the state, the state is so selfless, doing so much good things for us, meanwhile people were busily devouring other’s organs, the young meat were the most preferable, eating young meats and producing more meats were the most priorities in this world. Of course Lu Xun wrote that, to criticize a world that had long passed, now we live in such a wonderful world!
While you are right, it was a lambasting of western imperialism, it was more a criticism of the Qing state, and a perceived complacency at that time of the people. He was highly critical of traditional Chinese values.
So hard to listen to. The least you can do is learn the basics of how to pronounce Mandarin, or 普通话, when making a video about Chinese people. Yuan is not two syllables (that would be yu'an), it's enunciated with a smooth and continuous ua sound to produce a single syllable. Xiu sounds absolutely nothing like show, more like shoe but that's still a total butchering, especially in that it ignores the I in the middle, so it's more like X-you; I really can't explain the X pronunciation, you just have to hear it and practice a few hundred times, but in general I would say to keep your tongue lower than for SH, don't touch your mouth's roof. C is an unvoiced ts sound, while Z is voiced. You can find this in any textbook or, probably better, download an app, like Pleco (the best ever dictionary app) or Pinyin Trainer (I've used it for an hour every couple months for two years and I'm still only at 75%, so I can completely relate to the sense of impossibility this entails). You won't get over your accent this way, but you will at least have the knowledge to pronounce names with a fair approximation of what they really sound like. Unfortunately, I can offer no advice for Cantonese names other than to find a textbook or app, but I've never looked into which are good.
The Diary of a Mad man and the true story of Ah Q is a great work . I read it . Lu Xun is one of the world great writer to me....
Thanks for the documentary. I have started reading Lu Xun’s work lately and find his writing brilliant.

I'm currently experiencing Class Dysphoria. Do you think with enough money I can transition successfully?

I highly recommend reading "Medicine", and "Kong Yiji".
Lu Xun would be writing against the PRC if he was still alive.
现在依然是这样的
No closed captioning.:-( :-(

Mao reads Lu Xun and wanted to help China at all costs
For a personal portrait, the narration felt oddly impersonal
It is personal. To the point of having too little historical context tbh.

P.S. I did like the video. I mean this constructively, not dismissively.
pinyin trainer for 2 years and you're still only at 75%? bro you're the last person that should be telling others how to speak Chinese lmfao
