Hi. I'm the voice actor and singer for Sans on MOTI. I wanted to say a few words in regards to this song, so if you may read this statement before you make a comment on this song, I would deeply appreciate that. For commenters who believe this is "rushed" in order to shut up the fans who were demanding and making threats about this song, it wasn't. I put a lot of time into it, far more than most of the other songs I was featured on as a singer, especially because I knew this song had high expectations. I gave it my all, just as Sans did for this fight as he was able to. For commenters who came to the conclusion that I can't sing or hold notes because the song is chaotic and the vocals jump all over the place, that isn't true either - I deliberately made the decision to put more emphasis on acting and conveying Sans' emotions in the game over simply nailing notes/pitch perfection. Octave jumps are on purpose because the battle goes all over the place, so the song goes all over the place. I sung on-key where I was just singing, but I didn't think it would be so controversial that I chose to depict anger, growling, or yelling in a song where sans is giving his all against the human in a last stand. Yes, I can choose to follow every note flawlessly to a T with no issue! But I did not - the battle of Megalovania is meant to be chaotic and overwhelming, out of left field, unexpected that a low energy lazy guy like sans is able to dish out so much. Have you guys not seen the fight? This is Sans' last stand against the human before the world is erased, and thus I believe it is an appropriate decision to express the lyrics through acting/emoting. He is not going to be calm or confident, I'm pretty sure under that smile he's thinly veiling a lot of fear and desperation. If you're not a fan of the song, that is fine and you are entitled to your opinion - as there are other covers of Megalovania elsewhere that do very well in terms of polished technical singing that you can enjoy. I just chose to do it in the context of portraying the character, which is a completely separate concept than me simply singing the song as myself. I just wanted to state that I worked hard on it and wanted to explain why I made the performance decisions I made for it - regardless. I just think it would be considerate if people thought about the song more in the context of the story and the game and why things are the way they are here. Thanks if you've given the song a chance and read this.
I just say that your voice for sans is remarkable and truly stand in complete awe for this song, this song is the best version of megalovainia I have ever heard in my entire life
I liked the chaotic feel of some moments, and the sad feeling of others, and i feel like this would have taken way longer, not rushed. P.S that art is amazing!
I think he's referring to the fact that Frisk probably already completed a Genocide Route. Frisk seems to forget True Resets, for example, he doesn't turn around when sans askes them to shake his hand. Frisk doesn't seem to remember True Resets. Chara erased the timeline. I think that sans is asking them if they even know what's real and what's not, what happened and what didn't, because Chara asks you if you want to recreate the timeline, but are you sure it's a real timeline and not an illusion? Are you sure that the timeline Chara recreated isn't just a dream? Are you sure it's reality?
@@FanofGuardianTales I'm pretty sure Sans is talking to the Player. He's asking the Player if they think they're real. Not Frisk, not Chara, but the Player. It is hinted a lot throughout the entire game that Sans knows about the existence of the Player, and my main canon is that every line in the genocide sans battle is directly meant for the Player. Yes, even (and especially) the "Kids like you should be burning in hell." That makes the fight even more darker than it already is...
@@Bucks414 they don't mean that the souls are helping the human, they meant that Frisk hearing all the souls of the monsters that they killed gives them the determination to kill sans :v
Sans entire goal here isn’t to kill you but instead to be as annoying as possible. He wants you to give up and hopefully reset and give up on the whole murder thing
Lemme explain some things. 1) Sans is wearing shoes because this is serious, his slippers won’t cut it anymore 2) He’s speaking in proper capitalization because again, this is a serious fight. He can’t be lazy anymore. 3) He returns to his lowercase letters once the battle is over, because he’s bleeding. He’s dying. What’s the point in continuing the fight? Anything else?
The most chilling thing in my opinion is: Sans knows every reset, and so he knows Frisk/Chara is unkillable, but he continues to fight however many times they reset. His only hope is to make them quit, but even he knows that's a very slim chance.
He doesn't know every reset he knows when you reset so its even sadder for him he sees the player resetting over and over but he can't change any thing in his fight
Actually, nobody except flowey and chara remembers the resets, not even sans, they only have deja vue moments, he acknowledged the timeline jumping and stopping probably because he looked at his machine or something
i'm pretty sure he can remember the resets considering how it's pretty hard to say "you've died 7 times" based on a facial expression alone?? at least somewhat, he should be able to remember imo. can you tell exactly how many times someone's done something without having been there to know they did it?
And Mettaton progressively sounds more hopeless through his song, with things like "Will they all remember my face" and "If I've got the slimmest chance to stop your cruel genocide".
according to the laws of the circulatory system, blood cells are created by the bone marrow. The new blood cells are already in the bloodstream so the cycle of blood begins, this is why a skeleton bleeds.
I once read a comment that remembered the fact that sans always drink ketchup and probably the red thing that exit from the slash was it and not blood, and I think it could be right (even if it destroy all the theory possibility)
This Sans actually scares the shit out of me, i don't think i've ever felt such a genuine amount of fear while listening to a song before, this is so well made and the breaks between the absolutely terrifying bits really helps the feeling sink in
No joke, this song is catchy and all, but the flipping pictures. So detailed to the point where you DO feel your sins crawling on your back. It makes you feel like you’re actually there
Sans surely paid his.. everything. His respects, steel for the incredible voice acting, his fandom in deltarune, frisk for a happy ending. But there's just one thing he'll never pay.. *His tab at Grillby's.* edit: came back to this comment like a year later, i made this comment when i was 12 lmao this is still a total bop tho
I love the idea that for every person who stopped playing at this fight because they couldn't beat him, he managed to succeed. He reached his goal and stopping you, which no one else could do, and just wants for your return. Pretty cool.
This particular cover might not sound the most pleasing musically, but the voice work is just so intense. You can really hear the despair, frustration, and even madness in Sans's voice. It sounds like the final threads of his sanity are snapping as he's fighting you. We're using to seeing a more chill portrayal of Sans, even during this fight, so this is a pretty unique take. I'm into it!
I agree and it makes sense. This is a musical, not a song piece. Musical cares more for acting and story than steady rythm. Check the "Miserables" musical for example. Acting and intense vocals were more important than rhythm.
@@dionisus24 Exactly! Musicals are an entire different style from any other type of music. If you dont like it's that fine but its not bad (thats what I think anyway)
It's really incredible! You can also se how Sans is scared in this song he is the only thing preventing you to destroy every thing cementing him, and he knows that the player can reset, and still fighting. his only hope is that he can make the player quit of playing, but even if he could do the player quit, the underground is already destroyed and the player can still coming back. behind that smile, there is genuine fear and despair. and the way steel sung this song is perfect, the song is as chaotic and violent as the real moment in the game. *yes, i know this is a indie game ;-;* *AND SANS IS WITH HIS SNEAKERS, AND THEY ARE TIED. MOM IM SCARED*
I'm sorry but the best part is: 4:05 with "I gave up hope long ago, not much point in dreams, you know," because it really looks, feels and sounds like the voice is coming from the sans in the artwork - like his voice echoes just as it should be if he was fighting and leaped into the air like that - you can hear how fast Sans must be moving! Gives me chills everytime.
god. sans kinda counters everyone else here, with pap still believing you can get better while sans is fully aware that you're irredeemable and doing this just out of boredom, countering undyne who believes she can save everyone, while sans is doing this for those he couldn't save, mettaton who knows he can't win but is fighting and taking his death with pride, while sans is just bitter because he knows that you won't stop trying and he hates it. he's also parallelling toriel and alphys, with toriel's being a haunting melody of disgust at you, and sans's hatred of you, and with alphys knowing that monsterkind can't win, but is still pushing forward to save who's left, just like sans.
YESSSSSS!!! also, have you seen Darby's (papyrus) voice?? he can hit high notes then hit very low notes (i think that Steel can hit lower notes). he's awesome
@@yooo423 He mean't that steel can't fly. The guestion was: "Is there anything steel *can't* do?" So he can't fly...probaply. Exept if he summons a gaster blaster and flies with it...
Dude, I know these comments have said it a million times before, but holy shit. The desperation and cracking you can hear in Sans' voice, especially about halfway through with the "That hope is a dying ember, you just wanted to see this end, see how far you can descend, now we can never make amends". That hits *HARD.* You can really feel the intensity and pure hopelessness Sans is feeling, and it gives me literal goosebumps everytime I hear that angry, almost terrifying yelling. You get the sense that he's almost afraid, but he knows he has to do this. He's tired of resets, hes tired of dealing with seeing his friends and only family slaughtered time and time again. Magnificent job, Steel. My hat goes off to you. 💙
5 years...I have to say even after all this time, this is still my favorite vocal rendition of this song. You can tell Steel put his whole heart and soul into singing this and honestly, this along with a lot of the MOTI songs on the channel as well as Juno's channel are in a playlist I have that I listen to nearly every day and I LOVE singing along with them. They're so unique lyrically and they're all video game music which is the only music I really enjoy so its a double win. To the MOTI team, you guys are an inspiration to listen to. I'm so happy I found you guys so many years ago.
I like how sans, undyne, and toriel all have songs in this package that aren't pitch perfect for various reasons. but Papyrus was pitch perfect because he had hope that he would have been able to get through to the human, plus he puts effort into everything he does. And Mettaton was pitch perfect because... Well he's Mettaton, he's gonna put on a good show no matter what.
For Toriel, she's terrified and heartbroken that someone who could just take her out so quickly is going to get out into the world and kill everyone else. Undyne is putting all her energy into the fight itself and doesn't give a crap about how the pitch is. And while Sans is lazy, he still kept the pitch in the pacifist tracks, he just doesn't owe the one who's on a genocidal rampage a perfect pitch.
I Like how when steel is singing, his voice sounds like he gets more and more tired, (he probably is) as if it was like sans during the battle as he kept getting more tired as the battle progressed, and now steel gets more tired as the song continues, nice touch 👍
I love that line, “you just wanna see this end!” So many ways to interpret… You want to see the genocide ending You are sick of dying to sans and want to get past You genuinely hate yourself for killing these people, but are afraid of what would happen if you just reset so you have to see it through
you can tell at 3:00 is where sans starts to go crazy, and after the chorus, he goes absolutely MENTAL... for some reason... it sends chills down my spine.
CelebiSon M it has a dual meaning. If u die, it means say hi to his brother and undone- ect. If u kill him, it means to say hi to the humans on this. Veerry creepy
I'll say my piece. I actually had no idea people hated this, but whatevs. I gotta say; this was already really fun to listen to before I realized how impressive it was. From a straight up musical standpoint, it may sound a little weird, but I still like it. But from an ACTING standpoint, it is one of the most impressive things I've ever heard. Sans is constantly fluctuating, constantly switching tones, and not only is this guy reflecting that in his pitches and other elements of the such, but he's matching Sans' emotions SO well. His anger, his threatening demeanor, his desperation. Not to mention how low he got. Cudos to you. You made a great song, and displayed a great performance.
I like how in the beginning he sounds normal but still angry and upset. Then in the middle he sounds more desperate and emotional and then towards the end he just sounds tired. It symbolizes the battle in the game perfectly. Edit: How did this get so many likes...
This reminds me of when sans slams you on the sides of the box, I think that’s the saddest part of the song because even though he knows he can’t kill you with that but he does it out of desperation.
...oh wow, Steel's Sans voice becomes terrifying in Megalovania. A massive departure from the beauty of It's Raining Somewhere Else. This battle is such a massive show of raw power from Sans, as he throws literally everything imaginable at the player and more...
For anyone annoyed or confused about sneakers of all things, this was made around the time when there wasn't too much official Undertale merch, so the pink slippers weren't as popular. Coincidentally, in one of the Steam profile backgrounds for Undertale, some of the only official art of Sans at the time, he's wearing the same blue sneakers. Both are canon, both are fresh.
I love how sans gets more and more exhausted and agitated the more the song goes on and how he slowly loses his composure, you can just feel he emotion and it's honestly amazing
Ok, BUT, is anyone gonna mention that “guess we’re doing this the hard way?” Like, it sounds like Sans is gonna break Frisk’s spine and use their skull as a bowling ball. Just saying.
1:10 "fighting means nothing but I'll fight anyway" This line explains this fight perfectly, Sans knows he can't win, but he's still going to try to stop you
Yes but the next line where he says "there's not a bit of good inside, you followed the path of genocide, your gonna have a bad time" shows that killing you isn't his end goal cause he knows he can't, he says it later in the song, "I will break your will" that's his end goal, if he breaks the player's will he wins, if they quit, it's excellent writing
This was the real reason Sans died, he spent too much of his stamina dropping epic music and forgot to take ketchup breaks in between Edit: ty for the correction
I'm sure this won't get many eyes, but I just revisited this, and man, I gotta comment. This voice actor for Sans did absolutely phenomenal. It makes me so sad that the song was poorly received upon first release. They went against the grain, against what people were expecting, opting instead of "pretty singing" to go with something fittingly, uniquely emotive, and boy was it. This is not a pretty fight. It is brutal and desperate and enraged and wrought with grief, and the delivery of that raw emotion here is genuinely chilling in places. It's definitely my favorite lyricized rendition of Megalovania, for that delivery alone. (And also for the art. My god, who drew that, and can they get a raise?) Edit: Just realized the same guy who did the voice ALSO did the art??? I don't think it's fair to hoard that much talent, honestly. /lh
I’ve no idea how it was poorly received, they were begging for it, and they got what in my opinion at least was the most incredible rendition of the song possible, and then they complained.
@@CephaVa Right?? My friend from way back then called it a letdown and I just cannot wrap my head around how. Like what were they looking for that would sate them? A clean and pretty cover that doesn't stand out at all? This is so grand and dramatic and well-acted and goes so hard, I'm glad MOTI & Steel went for it.
Regarding the way this song is sung, to me it is pretty acurated, like you can feel the pain that every word is holding and you even feel guilty for playing (or even considering to) the genocide run. I know how perfectly Steel can sing (if you want a proof, there's "It's raining somewhere else" cover from this musical, it's good as hell). So yeah, this cover deserves way more understanding other than just the artistic one.
The entire comment is great, and I completely agree with your opinion, but I noticed you put singed, and now I cannot unsee it. Why did I reply to this comment just to say that?
@@shinyaltaria1388 Oh.... OHHHHHHH Darn my english skills. Ahhh, here I was giving an all serious comment about serious topics and I just wrote " singed" xd Sorry for making your eyes bleed with this, sometimes my brain just goes quite goofy and forgets proper conjugation. I'll be sparing you from that typo :p Thanks tho for saying so, that was embarrasing >///
Even 4 years after this went live on TH-cam, I'm still listening to it for inspiration because it's a masterpiece. This is exactly how I imagined it to go. Not just pure song, the fact that Steel can easily alternate from talking to singing and back again... the pure all that he put into it... this is what it would really be like - I think - if you had to face a relentless killer and you had to sing some of what you were saying when you're trying to reason with them...
Idk but the feeling of being so deplorable that even someone usually that fun, lazy and ready to believe in the good in others gets pushed over the edge really sells the point of why the genocide run feels awful.
YES, in fanon sans just goes crazy even if frisk only kills like 1 froggit but to be fair in canon he forgives a lot of murder and gives you many warnings before he fights you
Steel is the embodiment of Jevil, in the sense that he "can do anything." This song so perfectly mixes at first the anger in Sans' voice, then the loss and betrayal. Which sparks more anger. As the fight continues, you can hear the desperation deep into the background of Steel's vocals as he portrays himself as furious--putting on a brave front. But the more he realizes you won't give up (which he mentions a few times in the lyrics), panic raises the pitch of his voice and he sings faster as he puts more than he can give into the fight and thus the song. It gives us a glimpse into the emotional wreck the Judge was. All his pain, his anger, his sorrow Is because of YOU. It sends chills down your spine knowing that YOU've caused this. This was YOUR doing. YOUR Resets are what brings Sans into a pot of despair and hopelessness, spiraling out of control. Until the sudden end. An emotional rollercoaster the whole time. And right when it looks like it start all over... you've struck again.
The singing isn't "pretty" like in the other songs, but I can tell that is intentional. This battle isn't meant to be pretty. Its all over the place, its emotional and chaotic. You have an amazing voice and great acting skills and it really comes through here. Masterful.
I love the line “Do you think your right?”. It honestly matched what I see in Undertale. It’s a battle of ideology. Flowey has kill or be killed, Asgore has to kill to give a hope, Toriel must fight to deture you from leaving, Papyrus fights to reach his dreams, Undyne kills to protect monsters from what she thinks is a villain, but we see she doesn’t want to kill, Toriel won’t kill, Asgore regrets every kill, Papyrus is too kind to kill, and sans is a judge, he has to be impartial, and he has seen to world go back over and over… he doesn’t care, until you kill the only hope in his life, Papyrus, but he holds back, because he doesn’t break his promises… until he has too, because your going to do more then reset, your gonna reset the timeline itself, your going to ERASE, and that he can’t stand back to. Asriel does too! He thinks the worlds a game, and with gods power, and spending unknown amounts of reset, he has gotten the idea that he can just win, and then frisk stands up to him, standing up to everyone but sans, since their friends in any other route other then killing Papyrus. We see everyone has their ideology, and none are really wrong, but like every ideology, it can fall apart… none are perfect… UNDERTALE is full of characters who can change, and plenty who don’t have to change, but need to understand what they have done. We can only speculate, but we know Chara can’t of been evil the whole time… they are just as soulless as Flowey, and they and Asriel where not even close to evil in their ambition… but we know that ideology brought them both to death… a sacrifice for it, and a death with no resistance becomes of it… and I’m not saying Asriel was wrong, or Chara was wrong… I’m saying the parallels… between everyone… Asriel and Chara have have similar, but adverse ideology, like many duos in this game. Toriel and Asgore, both want to greve their kids, but one takes it too far, but to bring hope and keep the monster’s alive, but one gives herself self isolation to protect children who came, but abandoned her duties to help and try to stop Asgore. Papyrus and sans both want to have friends, but Papyrus gives it all he has, and let his personality shine, while sans has given up, and hides most of him behind bad jokes and good laughs… so he makes shallow friendships with everyone, but are they true friendships? I don’t think so. Undyne and Alphys both belive that they can change the world through what they do, and break the barrier, but Undyne has to kill, and we know she doesn’t want to, while Alphys uses her smarts to overcome the barrier, but cutting herself off, both try to help, but both sacrificing what they need. And finally… Flowey and Frisk… yes them… Frisk has the power of reset, and so did Flowey, but we see who each differ… Flowey used it to try and have fun, and to see what he can do, and so did the player, but Frisk, themselves, show us through any Pasifist cutscenes with no control, witch is the Asriel fight, since we didn’t come up with the save, they did, and they give their name, that they want to make a difference with their power, not play. We see everyone across the game fallow this example of ideology being able to be bent, but be able to be used in any way. This line shows that part of Undertale………… …….. Or I could be looking WAY too into a line in a song…
I am not going to lie, this frightens me. i mean, he is fighting with all strenght he has, he is the last line of defense for the entire world, he has lost everything, his brother, his friends, everyone ha has ever knew. best song
Maybe because his 'fourth wall breaking' means he knows there's a bunch of Frisks out there that did Pacifist or...well, not-genocide endings? Damn though, this is him fighting at the very end of a genocide run after everyone else died-there should definitely be regrets there about not taking Frisk out sooner, quite frankly. @starry knight
Two things I noticed about this fight: 1. This fight was made to discourage you from going No Mercy, but the challenge actually drew many players to it. _How many times did Sans get his brother and his friends killed, thinking you didn’t want such a tough challenge? _*_How many deaths could have been avoided if he just did his boring “special attack” first?_* 2. Sans tries to convince you to not come back after he “spares” Frisk. If you quit the game out of frustration, well, sure, you did as he asked, but that also means _you won’t reset. Every single monster will stay dead, and he’ll be left in Judgement Hall with the corpse of a child _*_forever,_*_ waiting for you to come back._
Monsters got evacuated by Alphys, and 7. Soul collected. At that point 3 possible outcome. 1. Asgore gets the last soul, and learns all the damage you done. Knowing this. That a single child nearly exterminated the monsters he takes no risks. Destroys the barrier, and destroy humanity to protect the monsters, that left. With such destruction even he realize, that leaving humans alive is a risk he can't afford. 2. Seeing the destruction Asgore keeps the souls, and pays more attention to the ruins, but leaves the monsters underground. Protected by the barrier. 3. Flowey gets the 7 souls somehow, and well. We know what flowey like. The world about to become a total nightmare.
@@Breeze45-s4h And he wasn't started kindly at first. Also those souls are not the same as he was in true pacifist end. In the true pacifist end he has a lot of good hearted monsters all friends of Frisk, and just 6 human souls. In case of this however he would have 6 probably angry, and desperate human, and a literal killing machine. You think, that their feelings would sway Asriel into the same path?
I CANNOT EVEN COMPREHEND THIS DUDE’S RANGE- _ALSO HE DID THE ART TOO?_ *HOW MUCH TALENT DOES THIS GUY HAVE-* Also I can’t believe there are people who think this was rushed because he doesn’t hit every note perfectly- those people just can’t appreciate good acting! This is PHENOMENAL!!
Exactly. Some people just expect everyone and everything to be absolutely perfect. There's a good reason why I keep coming back to this musical again and again, because this musical is a fricking masterpiece. And I don't even like megalovania that much, I mean it's a pretty good song but there are better songs in the UT Ost than just megalovania IMO. But this musical is so powerful that it made me become the fan of the song I didn't even liked that much. A timeless mastepiece this musical is. Steel is a really, really great and talented voice actor and my mind thought that there were more than one voice actor because of the voice range changing from high to extremely deep from time to time, lol. And I didn't knew that he made the art too. Talented as heck.
Yeah, I agree. Although there were probably some true mistakes, I believe that some of them were intended because, well, it's Sans. I'm not making fun of Sans, he's actually one of my favorite characters, if not my favorite. Nice job, MOTI and Steel!
I mean, it's kinda MOTI's fault. They were mocking people for so long with Megalovania that people became paranoid and started doubting things regarding it.
Frisk:who's laughing now?!? Sans: *hops in a tank he teleported in the hall* Frisk:you are! * G A M E O V E R* *the dialogue:lolololololololol get dunked on*
I'm probably looking into this too much, but 3:15. 1. Going down, as in falling into the underground. 2. Going down, as in the effects of sans's blue attack. 3. Going down, as in losing the battle.
I tried to find better/bigger words than ‘amazing’ or ‘phenomenal’ or ‘extraordinary’ to describe the song but I couldn’t so I guess they’ll have to do. *Introduction* Well, this is it. After over two years since the game released, we finally have the song everyone has been waiting for. Megalovania. And holy crap, did you not disappoint. I remember seven months ago when you announced you would be doing the Genocide Tracks, and I immediately was thrilled. I fell in love with the scratch tracks and over the course of these months have listened and memorized almost every lyric in the package. But my favorite out of all of them was, you guessed it, Megalovania. It is a phenomenal piece of work that was definitely worth the wait. It’s one of those songs that I’ll just start singing to myself because of how catchy and well made it is. Since this is the it, the “Grand Finale,” so to say, I will be writing an essay about the reasons why this is so damn good. Who knows, maybe this will get a like from MOTI himself or something. *Part I: The Lyrics* The lyrics for this song are easily the best on the internet. By far. Everything about them works so well. The song manages to capture Sans’ emotions; his sadness, his determination, and his acceptance of losing. Not only does the lyrics capture his emotions, but a lot of the dialogue in the fight as well. This combination results in catchy, well thought out lyrics that fit the melody of Megalovania. Since Megalovania is such a fast-paced song, it is not easy to match the lyrics with the beat, but you’ve done it. Another great part about the lyrics is that it takes up the ENTIRE song. Of course there’s the instrumental break near the end but that’s not possible to lyric-alize. What I mean is other songs that made lyrics for Megalovania have a few lyrics at the beginning and the cut have the main part as just music and then start singing again. Alex chose to do the whole song, which is much more enjoyable than half the song having lyrics and the other half music. Ok now let’s talk about the Old Megalovania vs the New Megalovania. The old one was not received too well, but I’d say at the time it was still one of the better versions. However, this version takes everything wrong with the old version and throws it out the window. Many times in the old version there were weak sets of lyrics, but you completely replaced them and made them so much better. I did like the fact that you used some of your old lyrics because, ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.’ Overall these lyrics were fantastic. They managed to make it feel intense and like the battle, while conveying emotion in a catchy way that will have people listening over and over. *Part II: The Music* Ok so Megalovania sounds great on it’s own, we all know that. But Alex did something most other covers didn’t do with the music. This being the use of the fast-paced version of Megalovania rather than the slow piano cover. The majority of Megalovania covers online use the slow piano cover which really takes you out of that ‘intense battle’ feeling. Since the main point of the battle is to feel intense, it doesn’t make sense to use a calm, slowed version of Megalovania. Malcolm Robinson’s version of the song is a great choice. I’m a big fan of his work and I hope some day he posts a cover of BAATH. Plus the addition of Hellkite’s remix makes the music much more intense. The two orchestral mixes combined forms an epic mix that is something else. The two just coincide with each other so well, and it almost feels as if they were made to be together. Both are fantastic on their own, but combined they form a version of Megalovania that I haven’t seen in some time. It *feels* like a battle, and that’s the point of Megalovania. So using these two versions really captured the point of the battle. Great choice. *Part III: The Voice* This is just great. Steel is definitely one of my favorite voices for Sans out there, so hearing him sing Megalovania makes it all the more better. I’ve seen so many covers of Megalovania where the singer is a female or a young boy. This really brings me out of the moment, as it feels like it's not Sans singing. Steel is really the perfect fit for Sans, his voice just makes it feel like you’re there with him in the moment. The emotion portrayed shows that Sans isn’t just a badass here to beat up the player, but also to try to convince the player to go reset one last time. He tries everything, going as far as to tell the player of how painful it is to watch everyone he loves die, and when he does get a happy ending he gets it taken away. Steel is able to capture all the emotions; hope, sadness, fear, anger, and determination. There were a few times when I was really scared of Sans. You can hear the pure anger in his voice, and at points it almost sounds like he’s losing his mind. At first I was a bit skeptical about his voice being all over the place, but after listening to it for an unhealthy amount of time, it has really grown on me. It feels so real; Steel has really been able to put himself into Sans’ character perfect. Steel hasn’t had too many fast paced songs (I think the closest would be STMPWYFS), so hearing this side of him is really interesting. And the only time we heard him talk in “serious Sans” mode was during the musical when he says, “You’d be dead where you stand.” However, Megalovania is full of “serious Sans” moments, which really brings fear into the listener. His voice is just so perfect and it makes the song even better than it already was. It was a great performance by Steel, and I’m gonna miss hearing him sing as Sans. *Part IV: The Art* Steel’s art was fantastic in this. Steel really went all-out. The animations at the beginning and during the song makes it feel even more pristine. I absolutely love what Steel did with the art. His version of Frisk and Sans are really really good. So many different shots were used in this song, and you really have to take a step back and appreciate how well drawn everything is. The choice of colors in each shot, the poses, the lighting, everything. It all is so well thought out that it makes for beautiful images. Art for the Sans fight is some of the most popular art in the Undertale community, but Steel has drawn some of the best images for the fight I’ve ever seen. I can only imagine how long it took for Steel to draw all that. The amount of art creates a healthy balance between art and actual gameplay, which keeps the viewers attention not only to the music, but to the video as well. This is some of the best art in all of UTM and UGP, and it raises the quality of this video even more. *Part V: Conclusion* This is truly the best cover of Megalovania ever. Period. All of the points I have listed above can be used on their own, but when they come together as they have in this song it forms something amazing. There are covers with a single piece of art, or covers sung by females that don’t sound like Sans. Covers that are slowed down, and covers that have poor lyrics. But Alex and the MOTI crew have managed to nail every one of these points and create the single greatest version of Megalovania ever. It’s like making a cake. You get a lot of simple ingredients, but when put together they make something amazing. Steel’s voice, Alex’s lyrics, Steel’s art and two great mixes. Put them together and you have a genius, beautiful-sounding, absolutely phenomenal "Megalovania cake." Truly a work of art. I would also like to apologize, one last time, on the behalf of everyone who has harassed and bullied you for these past years (seeing as though some people won’t apologize on their own). And honestly, I think people will still ask for Megalovania even after this video is up. But for all of the people who were kind and patient, I think this is a great reward from you guys, and I’m certain everyone will love it just as much as I. And with only one more Undertale song set to release, it’s bittersweet to end on this sad note. Thank you for making all your work on UTM and UGP, because it has made the Undertale community so much better. I’ll be sad to see it go, but I’m excited for the future as well. Thank you for your time. ~Callum - - - - - But seriously tho can you do long elevator with *real* lyrics? That’s my favorite track and I’d love to hear your “Man On The Internet Touch” to it ;-) (PS, This comment is 1500 words long. Where’s my sticker?)
I'm not lying. Best Megalovania vocal cover I've ever heard. And I don't think I'm even going to take that back. That range was so beautiful my jaw dropped onto the floor! How do you sing so well? I love the lyrics and the person who sung them!!!
The reason why Sans is so powerful is becase he wears his battle slippers in-game. He fights with the strenght of 10 human men with his battle slippers, no one should dare challenge the battle slippers.
Sans: *puts shoes on and actually ties them* Frisk: “well shit.” Everyone else in the underground: “WEE WOO, WEE WOO! CODE BLUE, CODE BLUE, HE IS WEARING SNEAKERS! I REPEAT, HE IS WEARING SNEAKERS! AND ARE THEY TIED?! CODE BLUE AND RED, THEY ARE TIED. I REPEAT, THEY ARE TIED!”
So in response to a problem I didn't even know existed I am now making this comment. Apparently a bunch of people are complaining, saying this felt rushed and sloppy. I didn't hear this at all when I first listened to the song and I still don't hear it. Steel explained why he made the choices he did and as a voice actor myself I completely understood his choices before he even made that statement. When you play a character, if you're a good voice actor you should be able to BE that character. Sans in the genocide run has lost everything and is giving it everything he's got to prevent the destruction of the universe, even if he's already lost everything. He's broken, depressed, pissed, and very, VERY afraid. Steel portrayed all of these emotions and feelings perfectly. His basey parts exuded anger and melancholy. His screams ooze with pain and a scramble of emotions that Sans doesn't know how to cope with. Steel poured everything he had into this and truly played the part. Every little choice in pitch or modulation, subconscious or otherwise, has a purpose and just screams pain, despair, and hatred. I could not have done it better myself and I take my hat off to Steel and the rest of the team. You've made something incredible and I love it. To Steel specifically, I say that you have created the best version of a lyrical megalovania I've ever heard, and I've listened to MANY. Incredible job and keep up the awesome work.
I feel like the lack of sync with the beat and lyrics actually works with Sans' character. aside from his clearly empty/depressed state, he's never been one to follow the rules, so it makes little sense that he sings as he wants to, unlike Mettaton, who went with the flow of the beat since, well, he's an entertainer
Wow. Ok, that voice was the exact way to fit Sans. He’s calm, not caring, but the farther in, the closer you get to beating him, he gets more anxious. He knows what’s next, so he tries to stop that. It gets chaotic and when you beat him, he’s barely surprised. Deep stuff man.
___ X ___ I enjoy some of the parts but trust me it’s still a good song I’m just sorta not into this type of singing but agains till a amazing song and the actor gave it his all!
i mean, everyone has the deep voice part. i think its just because any deep/normal voice fits sans, whereas the only voice that fits papyrus is skeletor.
Yeah, I agree with that. I love this voice, don't get me wrong, but it's not my Sans voice. And, I've seen a lot of different Sans voices. Same goes for Flowey. I know Flowey is a little more different than Sans but still. MOTI's voice was different than mine by a little bit. Good job, MOTI and Steel!
Well, it depends on the official art you’re looking at. On this one cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0014/1962/products/product_UT_characters_shirt_deisgn.jpg?v=1449346685, he’s wearing slippers, while on this one vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/undertale/images/7/7f/SansArtwork.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160310171514, he’s wearing sneakers.
"It's a beautiful day outside. Birds... well, they haven't migrated back yet, and flowers can't bloom in this weather... Why is this my line again?! This is stupid!"
This might get a little long, but I feel like people don't always give creators enough credit. I have always had mad levels of respect not only for musicians, but performers and the writers behind the music. Everything about this performance is solid. The beginning kind of sounds like an anime opening, and I love that. It does a great job of portraying the journey that is this fight(assuming you don't just kill Sans attempt one). This is a battle of stamina, the stamina of the player against the inevitable death of Sans. His only goal is to make you quit, so it totally makes sense that he would try for intimidation both by using his strongest move in the game, and his emotional performance in this song. As it goes on it makes sense for Sans to get more emotional, and for the pitch and rhythm to be bent a little. That part ceases to be relevant because any straight pitch and perfect rhythm just doesn't fit the chaoz and desperation of Sans. I love this performance, and although I don't really have any credibility other than being a music nerd with choir, band, showchoir, and theater experience I recommend this video as a reminder that the soul of the performance can be found outside of what is written on the page. To everyone who helped in any way to develop these: You are amazing, thank you for making these and if you think they don't have impact, you are wrong. As someone who has tried to fit words to music myself, I can say that is no easy task, and to perform them with such drive is inspiring. Thank you, for improving the world.
Believe it or not, I find it easier to write to someone else's music than write for my own. It's easier to make the lyrics a bit more metaphorical and meaningful that way to me
I hung out in choir a lot during school, this is a lot of what the choir director drilled into our heads as he was preparing us for the concerts and competitions. Doing the pitches, words, and stuff correctly is one thing, but conveying the emotions and messages of a song is important too. If the choir doesn’t convey the emotions of the songs they’re singing, then it’ll just be a bunch of pretty voices singing in the same tone for every song and the concert will be boring.
I completely agree. Singing is one thing, but acting whilst singing is very important too, and you did the latter perfectly.
You did so well!!! I hope for no criticism.
I just say that your voice for sans is remarkable and truly stand in complete awe
for this song, this song is the best version of megalovainia I have ever heard in my entire life
I liked the chaotic feel of some moments, and the sad feeling of others, and i feel like this would have taken way longer, not rushed. P.S that art is amazing!
I think that make this song chaotic and dark is the right decision
I like the way Sans always insult us every lyric , the one that hit hard me is "have you ever wondered if you still are real "

The most chilling thing in my opinion is: Sans knows every reset, and so he knows Frisk/Chara is unkillable, but he continues to fight however many times they reset. His only hope is to make them quit, but even he knows that's a very slim chance.
Because you're "filled with determination" :\
He doesn't know every reset he knows when you reset so its even sadder for him he sees the player resetting over and over but he can't change any thing in his fight
Actually, nobody except flowey and chara remembers the resets, not even sans, they only have deja vue moments, he acknowledged the timeline jumping and stopping probably because he looked at his machine or something
DETERNINATION
i'm pretty sure he can remember the resets considering how it's pretty hard to say "you've died 7 times" based on a facial expression alone?? at least somewhat, he should be able to remember imo. can you tell exactly how many times someone's done something without having been there to know they did it?
So Undyne the Undying progressively sounds more hurt, while Sans progressively sounds more tired and desperate. I love it!
Welp... indeed we hit Undyne a lot of times when Sans a lot of times dodging slash or pan smack in last moment
I actually like to think sans isn’t sweating he’s just using determination and it’s making him melt slightly.
And Mettaton progressively sounds more hopeless through his song, with things like "Will they all remember my face" and "If I've got the slimmest chance to stop your cruel genocide".
What’s the link to the undyne one
While I hear him sounding progressively desperate I only hear him being tired towards the end, not really progressively tired.

It sounds like the final threads of his sanity are snapping as he's fighting you. We're using to seeing a more chill portrayal of Sans, even during this fight, so this is a pretty unique take. I'm into it!
It really does. My days are bleeding, but it's beautiful.
I agree and it makes sense. This is a musical, not a song piece. Musical cares more for acting and story than steady rythm. Check the "Miserables" musical for example. Acting and intense vocals were more important than rhythm.

Well he's Mettaton, he's gonna put on a good show no matter what.
damn, i didnt think of this before
Correct
They are all pitch-perfect. Change my mind. I dare you.
What are the reasons?

And then he's Satan.
...oh wow, Steel's Sans voice becomes terrifying in Megalovania.

This was the real reason Sans died, he spent too much of his stamina dropping epic music and forgot to take ketchup breaks in between

My god, who drew that, and can they get a raise?)
Edit: Just realized the same guy who did the voice ALSO did the art??? I don't think it's fair to hoard that much talent, honestly. /lh
I’ve no idea how it was poorly received, they were begging for it, and they got what in my opinion at least was the most incredible rendition of the song possible, and then they complained.
@@CephaVa Right?? My friend from way back then called it a letdown and I just cannot wrap my head around how. Like what were they looking for that would sate them? A clean and pretty cover that doesn't stand out at all?

Regarding the way this song is sung, to me it is pretty acurated, like you can feel the pain that every word is holding and you even feel guilty for playing (or even considering to) the genocide run.
I know how perfectly Steel can sing (if you want a proof, there's "It's raining somewhere else" cover from this musical, it's good as hell). So yeah, this cover deserves way more understanding other than just the artistic one.
The entire comment is great, and I completely agree with your opinion, but I noticed you put singed, and now I cannot unsee it. Why did I reply to this comment just to say that?

Even 4 years after this went live on TH-cam, I'm still listening to it for inspiration because it's a masterpiece. This is exactly how I imagined it to go.
All his pain, his anger, his sorrow
Is because of YOU.
It sends chills down your spine knowing that YOU've caused this. This was YOUR doing.
YOUR Resets are what brings Sans into a pot of despair and hopelessness, spiraling out of control. Until the sudden end.

OH MAH GAWD miamouse is here? hiiiiiii!!!! I love your afac series!
This line shows that part of Undertale…………

Two things I noticed about this fight:
1. This fight was made to discourage you from going No Mercy, but the challenge actually drew many players to it. _How many times did Sans get his brother and his friends killed, thinking you didn’t want such a tough challenge? _*_How many deaths could have been avoided if he just did his boring “special attack” first?_*
That last bit gave me chills

I tried to find better/bigger words than ‘amazing’ or ‘phenomenal’ or ‘extraordinary’ to describe the song but I couldn’t so I guess they’ll have to do.
*Introduction*
Well, this is it.
*Part I: The Lyrics*
The lyrics for this song are easily the best on the internet.
*Part II: The Music*
Ok so Megalovania sounds great on it’s own, we all know that.
*Part III: The Voice*
This is just great.
*Part IV: The Art*
Steel’s art was fantastic in this.
*Part V: Conclusion*
This is truly the best cover of Megalovania ever.

REALLY? I NEED TO GET THESE SLIPPERS! THE WEIRD THING IS HE GOT THESE FROM GERSON ONE DAY WHO HAPPENED TO FIND THEM IN A DUMPSTER IN WATERFALL.

Agreed
Plus, If they do think it's rushed, megalovania is a fast song. I think that this song is the best, not rushed at all.
It was made to show how upset, sad and mad Sans is.
ikr
I feel like the lack of sync with the beat and lyrics actually works with Sans' character. aside from his clearly empty/depressed state, he's never been one to follow the rules, so it makes little sense that he sings as he wants to, unlike Mettaton, who went with the flow of the beat since, well, he's an entertainer
I don't know what's scarier. Steel's genocide sans voice...
Or the fact there's still one more song left.
Wait... There is..?
Jayden Dallas yes
The voice

It's funny how everybody knows Papyrus' voice, but everyone interprets Sans differently.

i mean, everyone has the deep voice part.
i think its just because any deep/normal voice fits sans, whereas the only voice that fits papyrus is skeletor.

I like how Sans’ shoes are actually tied in the animation, unlike in his official art. You know stuff is about to get real when Sans’ shoes are tied.

He wears slippers in the official art
Well, it depends on the official art you’re looking at. On this one cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0014/1962/products/product_UT_characters_shirt_deisgn.jpg?v=1449346685, he’s wearing slippers, while on this one vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/undertale/images/7/7f/SansArtwork.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160310171514, he’s wearing sneakers.
Lol, and he partially zipped up his hoodie too.

I just love the line "You are heartless, you are vile" at 3:52, just the feeling put into the word "heartless" in particular.
"It's a beautiful day outside. Birds... well, they haven't migrated back yet, and flowers can't bloom in this weather... Why is this my line again?! This is stupid!"
"Its a beautiful day outside. Flowers are singing, birds are blooming, on days like these.. Kids like you... Should be burning in hell."

No matter how often I listen to this track, the VA’s vocal range still always surprises me 😭😭
This might get a little long, but I feel like people don't always give creators enough credit.
What an amazing and astute insight! 👏👏
Believe it or not, I find it easier to write to someone else's music than write for my own.
It's easier to make the lyrics a bit more metaphorical and meaningful that way to me
He relly wrote a essay about a video game zong
This is somehow longer than the Gettysburg address what the shit
I hung out in choir a lot during school, this is a lot of what the choir director drilled into our heads as he was preparing us for the concerts and competitions. Doing the pitches, words, and stuff correctly is one thing, but conveying the emotions and messages of a song is important too. If the choir doesn’t convey the emotions of the songs they’re singing, then it’ll just be a bunch of pretty voices singing in the same tone for every song and the concert will be boring.
3:35 sans sounds like he crying and trying to keep his breath which is very cool
