Yknow when I first thought about Mettaton in the genocide route, I really thought’d he would just be like “ahahaha! I will kill you and become a hero and get even more praise and attention! I don’t actually care about anyone but myself!” but his character is so much more than that and I love it. He’s really a caring, protective guy his ego just gets in the way and can definitely make him seem like a total jerk, when he’s really not.
in his neutral ending he is a total jerk tho
The thing which i REALLY adore about the genocide route that it SHOWS everyone's character and even enhance some(Undyne,Mettaton,Sans).
Toriel: Even if she is a protective mother, she despises you showing that she isn't just a stereotopical(yes ik i butchered this word but who cares lol)mother.
Papyrus: It shows that he isn't just an ego filled person and and just want to be popular, no it shows that he is a very kind and forgiving monster and would never hurt a fly.
Undyne: It emphasis how much of a True Hero she actually is to the point she will refuse death to kill you, and she now also overcomes the racial hate she had towards humans as now she is trying to protect everyone, even humans!
Mettaton: He now isn't just a celebirity who only cares about himself and his ego, but now he will fight even putting his life for risk just for others to evacuate .
Alphys: I really wanted Alphys to be something more y'know. The genocide route didn't affect her much but ig make her more confident? Idk Alphys imo could have been handled better but idk.
Sans: YOU WANNA HAVE A BAD TIME??
In all seriousness tho, Sans character REALLY shines in genocide. He isn't just a normal skeleton who lives to make puns and be lazy(Sans neutral/pacifist), but now he will give all he has just to make you pay. He knows you're going to kill him eventually but he's going to make YOU WORK for it. He's a punisher and a judge.

I love the small touch in that the fans crying out "We love you, Mettaton!" turns into "Come on now, Mettaton!", and finally "Exploding Mettaton!" and it shows that as the battle rages on and Mettaton is showing more and more signs of defeat, the fans feel that way too, and all hope is lost for them. Amazing touch.

Not only that, but if you listen closely, no matter what the rest are saying, you can hear Napstablook always saying "We love you Mettaton"

It hit me like a ton of bricks, the people may of heard of Undynes' death. but all the survivors, held up in Alphys's bunker. they're watching Mettaton fight you. They're cheering him on as he holds you off. hoping his death will allow a few more seconds of hope. And then they watch you, effortlessly slay him, and march on. that has to be devastating. Knowing that their strongest die just like that.

Okay I did some thinking and here’s something to think about; what if mettaton AND alphys know about resets? I mean doctor alphys did do experiments about DT ( Determination ) and from what I know you need a lot of DT to have the ability to reset. I think while alphys was leaning about DT she discovered the power to reset. NOW how does mettaton fit into this? Well mettaton is a robot made by alphys and seems to support her no matter what ( when he’s not doing TV stuff anyways ) so I would assume that alphys would of told him about reset instead of keeping it to herself.

I mean, it could give us a better understanding on why the DT experiment failed but someone worked on flowey. Let me explain. The monsters injected with DT melted and turned into the amalgamates ( sorry if I spelled that wrong ) BUT flowey doesn’t have a soul so it would make sense why flowey didn’t up the same as the other monsters since there was nowhere to hold the DT so it must’ve made some kind of broken DT holder to keep alll that DT in. Now, WHAT kind of DT did alphys inject into the monsters and flowey? This might sound crazy but it could be UNSTABLE DT. I mean it could explain why flowey is so..... how do I put it..... DEMONIC. Whether Toby meant to or not, he brought a certain realization to my mind when I thought about the Mettaton fight. Think about it: a TV star who is always the center of attention. It’s all about HIM. Yet, when the time comes, he doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice his life for those he loves. It then becomes about others, and not himself. He’s throwing away the spotlight and being selfless. That was really powerful to me.

The lines "Will they all remember my face?" And "If is this the last time we meet" makes me emotional everytime i hear it. Mettaton knows that he will die, but even thought that, he still fight.
He knew he wouldn't win from the start, he says "until my final breath" meanwhile undyne said "as you take your last breath"

You know i recently realized something : mettaton sounds more robotic during this song compared to death by glamour and metal crusher. The reason why is because *neo was never completed thus the voice was never fully completed, which is* mettaton is literally fighting a dying battle and he knows but still like he says in the song, he would rather save the lives of his fans and people than be a lone survivor

That, or he just change it because having the entertainment voice as a killing machine wouldn’t very much fit the situation at hand, as well frisk wouldn’t take him seriously as he's trying to kill him with a voice like that....
Honestly, this might be the most heroic song in all of the Genocide Package. Sure, Undyne may have put her life at risk to kill the player, and Sans fought what he knew to be a losing battle just to hopefully a few lives, but Mettaton is different. Mettaton knows that he won't win, and he accepts it with grace, because he's not fighting to win, just to stall. He knows that he has no chance to win, and yet he still sacrifices himself so that everyone else has a chance to evacuate. As Mettaton says "every second I'm here, we've saved another life!"

This song shows that Mettaton knows he can't win. He insists that he's a hero, even though he has no chance. But even so, that doesn't mean he's not a hero. Infact, he's more of a hero than anyone else. Because he doesn't care if he doesn't win, he just needs to buy everyone some more time. What really makes him a hero, is not that he defies death like Undyne, but that he looks at death and says "bring it!" Because, to quote Mettaton in the pacifist route, He's going to shine like a star, and then burn like one. But he's gonna take you with him. I find that more heroic than refusing to die.

You know, it does make sense to add the vocal effects to Alex's voice. Not just because IKARUS's Power of NEO is electronic, but also because Mettaton NEO is a human annihilation machine, whereas EX is an entertainer robot and would sound a lot less robotic.
I agree - It makes so much sense to add the robotic effects to the regular and NEO forms
It could also be because more power is being pumped into the weaponry and keeping the body active rather than functions such as speech.

That’s the thing about bravery people get mixed up about. It’s not the absence of fear, it’s still showing confidence after being exposed to it. The lack of all fear is actually called stupidity.
I love how the Bonetrousle lemotif was included, it shows the connection between Mettaton and his audience/fans, Papyrus being one of his biggest.
If you listen to the original IKARUS Remix (what this video uses) then theres more than that.
Throughout most of the remix, Megalovania is heard lightly in the background. Sans is still alive at this point, and is next in line for a boss fight, so his track almost always being present makes sense.
Spear of Justice can be heard. Undyne is a friend of Alphys, the previous hero that tried to stop the human, and Mettaton is trying to imitate Undyne’s determination anyway. thats why Power of NEO has the same beats as True Hero
Spider Dance can be heard. it doesn’t make sense why though. it’s not even Ghost Fight/Dummy!, which would’ve actually made sense, considering who Mettaton used to be.
Theres a large part where ASGORE is playing. Asgore is also still alive at this point.

I must say, I sort of feel that Mettaton, at least in the genocide route, is more of a hero than Undyne. I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. Yes, Undyne died jumping in front of your attack, saving Monster Kid, but she didn’t know she was going to die, nor did she know that she was going to become Undyne the Undying. And yes, she fights you until you inevitability kill her, but once again, she outright says that she _will_ defeat you and save monsterkind.
Mettaton, on the other hand, knows that he _cannot_ win, but fights you anyway, with the mindset that even if you kill him in 10 seconds, that might just be enough to save at least one life.

I believe they are equally heroic, because undyne saying that she will defeat you is just part of her personality, she always acts like that. But most people don't recognize Mettaton as a hero because he dies without a actual fight, which is true but his intentions are heroic.

I like to imagine that through the entire song mettaton isn’t actually fighting; he’s putting on a performance. He’s stalling for as long as possible by distracting you with some flashy lights and blaring music, it fits the musical theme while also staying true to how the ‘fight’ goes in game.
Right he's just distracting the character so Alphys can evaluate the remaining survivors.
I feel like he's putting on one last show while throwing some attacks in while the player just gose along and chases after mettaton to amuse him. And than mettaton relises and just keeps going

This is absolutely a reference to Chara, and it's interesting that Mettaton can notice that when others haven't. He's an actor, so he can tell when someone's acting different than usual.

I just noticed Mettaton gets less confident as the song goes on. In the beginning, he says, "Others failed to stop you but I know I can!" About halfway, he says, "I must try, even though I may die, to protect land and king." He is no longer confident that he can stop Frisk. At the end, he realizes that he only has a sliver of hope left: " The end of the world, I face it with pride if I have the slimmest chance to stop your cruel genocide."

“Forever in your way.” You can hear him growl in anger in this line. This has to be my favourite undertale song.
After listening to this for awhile, I realized something I think. After hearing him talking about being a coward so much and repeating Undyne, I think the entire song is just him reassuring himself that he can do this. All the way down to the fake crowd implied to possibly be there. As the fight goes on, even his reassurance begins to fail him as the human begins to overwhelm him, so the song becomes more pessimistic. "Curtain rise, salvation I bring" In the beginning becomes "Curtain falls, salvation I bring." And he even goes so far to call it a ballad at the end. The song is literally Mettaton trying to stay strong and slowly crumpling under the pressure he has over him, even wondering if anyone will remember him when he's gone. And by the end of the song, all he has left is his confident facade to stay strong for the few monster left and the few who escaped as he is finished off by the human.
Of course no one could ever really forget Mettaton. I know I certainly won't. I just wish his heroism and character could have had a better genocide boss fight like Undyne

This song makes me want a full Mettaton neo battle even more. Though I do feel like spamton neo was kind of like a full Mettaton neo battle in it’s won way, mainly because in snowgrave spamton is technicahally the final boss which Mettaton neo was sort of supposed to be if he wasn’t a one hit kill.

The "and smile, it's closing night!" part that shows up a few time throughout the song is legitimately one of my favorite things about this entire package. Not only is this song just freaking epic in general, with Alex's amazing vocals, but the effects placed upon that part of the song and the meaning behind it, with this being the moment of Mettaton's death and just one step closer to the end of Monsterkind as a whole, it's just great all around.
