Have you considered comparing the 2023 Prius prime limited with the 2023 bmw 330e? It’s probably two different classes of cars but it would be interesting.
Nice job guys! Good to see you younger guys dissecting cars and making comparisons. Looks like a case of getting what you pay for to some degree. Not sure how big your hill was for the 0-60 pull in the Corolla, but it seemed to labor. With today's faster traffic (and EV's too), too much sluggishness is a liability in some situations. If you don't want to spend that much on a car, the Corolla will also be inexpensive to own and maintain, hold it's value, and likely be trouble free. Been reading some whispers that the Prime (plug in hybrids) from even Toyota are having some reliability issues. Unfortunate. Keep up with your work and if you ever get a chance to network with guys like Zygrene, The Topher, Engineering Explained, Savage Geese and Everyday Driver, jump on it. Great to have a car community for people who view cars as more than appliances (although this test leans that way, but even appliance like cars have a role).
I just put a deposit down today on a Corolla XLE Hybrid with JBL stereo at sticker. I wanted a Prius limited or even an XLE with the 12.3 in screen and JBL but to get either you would first have to incur a dealer mark up, er adjustment of $3,500 here in SoCA plus all the factory and dealer add ons making it over $8K than the Corolla. Lastly, I could not see the cluster through the steering wheel and wanted a moonroof that opens. I would have appreciated the heated steering wheel and vetilated seats though. In the end it's just an appliance for my 76 mile r/t commute and have an SUV for hauling/towing and a Vette vert for fun. Thanks for the comparison review.
I’m in So Cal too. So they actually sold you the Corolla at sticker? I’m trying to find a dealer here in San Diego that will sell at the very minimum, sticker price. Sucks that these days sticker is considered a deal. Lol Just curious, have you taken possession of the car yet? ✌🏻✌🏻
Can we please stop saying the gauge cluster is blocked by the steering wheel in the Prius? Just adjust the damn seat and wheel position. It is a non-issue
Totally agree that comfortable seating position is important. Prius should probably learn from its 2010 predecessor and offer a mirroring function of dashboard in the center of the console for people who are anthropomorphicaly diferent of whose eyes are not as sharp and need to have bigger analog like digits for speedometer.
Agreed. I got my 23 Prime a month ago, and it took me 30 seconds to find a suitable steering / seat position that worked without obstructing the display. Yes, it means I adjusted the wheel slightly lower than I did in my previous (2014) Prius, but took no time at all to get used to and is not uncomfortable by any means. Btw, I am 6’2”. PS - the car is fantastic. 😎
Loved this comparative. Been watching videos to decide between these two, and honestly i would go for the corolla, kinda like the old school style and price point.
I was curious about both of these cars. I ordered a Prius LE AWD. I am not interested in top trim line in a car, ever! Would be nice to see a review of a trim line more common with what people actually want.
@@My1KeyAgree, can't really go wrong with both. I'm hoping to make this car last a long time and I drive a lot for work, so the Prius made sense for me. Enjoy the Corolla!
Same here. Only thing is that the stance is lower compared to the Corolla I’d say. The Prius has some sports car looks, like the headlights are those of a Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the taillight resembles a Porsche 911 or something like that
@@PatG-xd8qn The comparison this person made wasn’t across different brands. It was between two different models made by the same brand. Spending more within a brand’s lineup gets you a car with more features, more space, and more power. All of this is fairly obvious imo.
I was comparing the Corolla to the Prius to the new Honda civic hatchback. I decided to buy the 2024 Prius. I took delivery and absolutely love it. I bought white pearl with all-wheel-drive.
What does it matter! Dealers are ruining any chances of purchasing any Toyota byJACKING PRICE to a ridiculous prices. From being around 30 to 35K to over 75K.
Excellent comparison. First, a correction. The cars that are out are 2023 vehicles. 2024 vehicles come out at the end of this year. Your video mentions 2024. Second, I have had the Prius for the last 5 generations. I switched in 2020 to the Toyota Corolla Hybrid. I always lease my vehicles every 3 to 4 years. As a commuter car, it was fantastic. Only available in the LE trim in 2020. It was around $23000 . I intended to get a Toyota Corolla Hybrid XLE fully loaded for about $29000 in 2023 when my lease was up. Then I went to the Jacob Javits Auto Show in New York and saw the new Prius. It blew me away. It looks like a Lamborghini. All dealers in the Northeast where I live are getting $4000 to $8000 over sticker. They are arriving at about one Prius to each dealership monthly. They only come with all wheel drive at about $1500 extra. My Prius XLE with all wheel drive and moon roof and the 12 inch info screen ( the latter is a must visually) came in at about $36000. I paid sticker. The color I received is a premium color and is, in my opinion, the most visually attractive one..the hot red color. The price difference of between the Toyota Hybrid Corolla and the Toyota Hybrid Prius exceeds $8000. It is worth every penny. I have been told by my dealership that there is a 12 month wait for the Prius. In the 2 months I have had the vehicle I have been stopped by over a dozen people, including those with the previous generation Prius who have given me a thumbs up. 👍 Practically speaking on a cost comparison and for commuting to work, the Toyota Hybrid Corolla is the way to go, but the Toyota Prius Hybrid is a once in a lifetime opportunity that people compare to a Tesla and Lamborghini if you can find one! Grant
2024 vehicles don't always come at the end of the year. Mason is right, they are both 2024 vehicles. 2024 Corolla is already being shipped to the US and will be sold in dealerships next month. 2024 Prius is out too.
They have the Corolla for 27k in my town going to get asap. Cant wait to have a car that is good on gas 🙌🏾. Going to save so much money if the gas prices go up agin 💸 ‼️
Thanks for another great video. In a year from now if the inventory situation improves, please do a Prius le fwd vs Corolla le fwd. If I buy one, it would be with as little options as possible.
Nice review. Technically, well done with the split screen comparing the same segments of two different models. Useful and well done. Some addl commentary: Your choice to review the top of line Corolla hybrid vs prius, slants the deck. My suggestion: Review the LE Corolla. I got one for $24.5k, which should give a few more points to Corolla. Also: My current ACTUAL gas mileage is 57-62 mpg, which is better than you reported for either car. More points for Corolla. Also, on my LE I have the traditional non LED tach and speedo, and other gauges. I prefer this to the electronic stuff, which I find less precise and less readable. This would make a better contrast for your review. Neither car comes with a spare tire or jack, but there is a place for one in Corolla, and I have purchased a set. You should mention that.
Additionally, the LE comes with smaller rims (steel) which are cheaper to replace if damaged, and are stronger than alloy rims. Also, smaller, so better mileage, and other advantages, such as less expensive tires.
As much as I'd like to get the Prius over the Corolla, the shortages and dealer markup make it next to impossible to recommend getting over the Corolla.
A few things I'd like to know as it's been some time since I was a young fellow. Ease of entry into the vehicles, and ground clearance. My old Prius could not get over some speed bumps without scraping the bottom.
Great comparison. Both are impressive for the price. The huge A pillars on the Prius limits forward visibility, so I tend towards the Corolla. I don't mind driving ugly cause I don't have to look at it.
I wonder if the new generation Prius redesigned the seats. I've driven both of the last two generations on a few occasions and they had the most uncomfortable seats of any car I've ever driven. Even more uncomfortable than Tesla seats.
I did a little research on Google and for maximum driving distance it said the Prius goes 644 miles and the Corolla goes 660 miles maximum driving distance The Prius has a 11.3 gallon gas tank while the Corolla has a 11.3 or 13.2 gallon gas tank The Prius may have more features and I do like the new look of it, but personally I would probably get the Corolla Hybrid simply for the maximum driving distance on 1 tank of gas
You compared the "top of the line" of both vehicles - Prius - limited and the Corolla XLE. WHY? Why not compare: Prius - LE and the Corolla LE * The average consumer is simply looking for an average car price, a price that we/ I can afford and simply put " more value for the buck" Skip the moon roof the fake leather seating, cool seats.. Again, simply asking why did you select the top models to compare in both vehicles?
Automakers rarely, if ever, provide journalist with low trim models. The only times we have them are when we find them ourselves at dealerships and neither of these two are readily available in our area 👍
I’m an “average consumer”, & I DON’T WANT the strippo version. Just because they’re practical cars doesn’t mean that you have to punish yourself & get the most basic version.
Interesting concidering that I purchased the Prius about a month ago. I am very pleased with the car however there is one thing that disappointed me. The construction is a little weak in my opinion. I travel almost constantly with a service dog who will go from the rear seat to the passenger seat. In doing so she will use the center counsel as a step. So in the month I've owned the car there are three small tears in the foe leather caused by her claws. I understand that this won't be an issue for most drivers but for over $30000 I'd expect better materials being used. Especially from the Japanese. For comparison, my other vehicle is a 2007 Chevy Avalanche with leather interior and NO marks whatsoever from her claws or anything else on it's center counsel.
cant decide between a Prius XLE or Corolla SE Hybrid. can save $5k with the Corolla and still get good looks and better visibility. gas cost per year is only about total $100 difference given 10k estimated miles driven. but the Prius is still very nice. thoughts anyone?
Add $1200 for snow tires for the Pruis. The Corolla will get by with all season or all weather tires year round. Also old bodies want to know about comfortable seats.

Primes are near impossible to find, at least by me. I have yet to see one hit a local dealers lots. Also, the M3 is cheaper if you qualify for the tax credit. I lean heavily towards the model 3
I went with Prime, but good luck finding one or not waiting two years for delivery. IMHO, for most people, who can charge at home, Model 3 LR makes more sense and is considerably cheaper, but I personally really do not like quality control of Tesla, their UX (blinker, shifter, wipers) and UI (I like buttons).

You cannot compare 1.8 from 2008 and the next gen 2.0 d4s engine from 2018. D4s or dynamic force engine is next gen engine with 8 injectors and electric intake cam. 6000 difference just for engine alone annulate in comparison
bailed out when i saw half a point awarded for bigger wheels. i hate big wheels like that. the looks, the ride and the efficiency. 16's are way better. you said objective then immediately made a subjective decision.
Yeah, you weighted the price points way too much when compared to the feature difference. You're basically saying the price difference is just about equal to the superior features of the Prius. In a word, you're saying those superior features are not worth the price difference. That makes no sense. Because it's a subject scale as well in real terms, and yet you give no points for style and design because it's subject. Weird Lastly, the multiple commercial breaks are too long, 20+ seconds each? C'mon.
Decent review, but the final score should not be as close as you scored. IMO you are weighing price WAY too much. 6 points for $6000 less? That is 80% of the Corolla’s score… just because it is cheaper, lol. By that scoring logic, a Corolla would absolutely DESTROY a luxury car. 🤔😂 Of course, with the price difference, Prius offers many more features, power, performance, etc that are not offered on the Corolla, so comparing them as if they are apples to apples is disingenuous. Obviously, with the Gen 5 Prius, Toyota has made the strategic decision to move the Prius upmarket by improving performance and adding available luxury features like memory seats, glass roof, power hatch, digital mirror, digital key, etc, which were never available before, so it is no longer the twin brother of the Corolla as it was in prior years. That said, scoring 1 or 2 points for the price advantage would have made more sense. As far as I am concerned, the new Prius wins in every objective category over the Corolla (performance, efficiency, practicality); the ONLY objective advantage of the Corolla is that it is more budget friendly, but as mentioned you give up a lot to save that money. That, and if you really prefer the sedan and “conventional sedan” style but that is very subjective. Personally, I think the hatchback design is hard to beat and uber-practical (as a 3-time Prius owner, who recently got a Yellow 2023 Prime 😎🇨🇦). Cheers.

Cuz some people these days care more about form. They don't care if they're worse as long as look nice. I know it's dumb.

I would likely myself buy a Corolla, but will give a credit to nice exterior and interior or new prius. If the price difference would be around 2k, I would opt for prius given hatchback design and its practicality.
I have a 2018 Camry hybrid, which I love! I was thinking as my next car, I would get the new Prius. Now, I'm not too sure. Thanks for the review! When my Camry was in the shop, I was issued a Corolla hybrid as a loaner while mine was being fixed. I liked it.
How was the Corolla hybrid compared to your Camry hybrid ?
I love my new Prius. A lot more power when you want it too!
@@scraps0233 I noticed that the interior (at least in the driver's seat) was a bit cramped. At least for me. I'm 5'11". It did seem to have very sufficient acceleration and handling, however. In the warmer and summer months I'm getting right around 50mpg with my Camry. I'm not an aggressive driver, and always leave it in ECO mode. I just think it's great! I would highly recommend the Camry hybrid.
@@miltonhayek2494 Yeah. More than the Corolla. I'm getting a bit older. I don't need to be a Speed Racer. 😃
@@bear4pozcle 😂. I wouldn't call my Prius a speed racer. But when I tested the engine in the Corolla I walked away. One of my engineers told me you really have to plan on anything that requires power. I don't mind less power. But if I need to speed up a bit I don't want to feel like I'm punching an asmatic hamster in the gut.
I just purchased a base 2024 Prius. No bells and whistles just great gas mileage. It accelerates well handles well, and is a smooth ride. Out the door price was 31 five.
The comparison should be between Prius and Camry
Ya but if was I would go for the Camry
The Camry is not compact enough to compare to the Prius.
✌🏻✌🏻
Paid 21k for my 2005 Prius in 4/05, still driving it
Can we please stop saying the gauge cluster is blocked by the steering wheel in the Prius? Just adjust the damn seat and wheel position. It is a non-issue
You mean permanently live with an uncomfortable seating/steering wheel position?
Totally agree that comfortable seating position is important. Prius should probably learn from its 2010 predecessor and offer a mirroring function of dashboard in the center of the console for people who are anthropomorphicaly diferent of whose eyes are not as sharp and need to have bigger analog like digits for speedometer.
@@CarConfections then find a comfortable seating position? It’s not rocket science, took me 5 seconds to figure it out when I bought my Prius
What's your mpg
Great video, love the side by side comparisons.
Thank you! More to come!
COROLLA!
Picking up my Prius next week, so this was some nice confirmation bias 😂
I'm planning to go with the corolla my self lol. I like the design of the prius more bit not worth the extra $6k+. Both are awesome tho
@@My1KeyAgree, can't really go wrong with both. I'm hoping to make this car last a long time and I drive a lot for work, so the Prius made sense for me. Enjoy the Corolla!
Prius better in every way, I'd take the Prius all day.
Well I do like your opinion, but the steering wheel on the prius is just not for me
Same here. Only thing is that the stance is lower compared to the Corolla I’d say. The Prius has some sports car looks, like the headlights are those of a Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the taillight resembles a Porsche 911 or something like that
Wow a car that’s more expensive is better?? Who would have thought 🙄
@@myNEONCITYWe'll Maserati makes very expensive cars that are actually incredibly cheaply made... So price alone doesn't mean everything
@@PatG-xd8qn The comparison this person made wasn’t across different brands. It was between two different models made by the same brand. Spending more within a brand’s lineup gets you a car with more features, more space, and more power. All of this is fairly obvious imo.
How is A pillar visibility?
Grant
SF Toyota is selling all Corolla Hybrid at MSRP and Prius and Prius Prime at $2k markup.
2024 vehicles don't always come at the end of the year. Mason is right, they are both 2024 vehicles. 2024 Corolla is already being shipped to the US and will be sold in dealerships next month. 2024 Prius is out too.
@@braetonwilson4296 Yep, bought my wife’s 2024 Lexus NX350H in April too.
For $36k I can drive 2020 BMW 740 with Italian leather, not this ugly Primus)
Dealer service and parts department loves the 7 series, especially after the 4 years 50k miles warranty.
Excellent comparison as always!😸
Thanks again!
They have the Corolla for 27k in my town going to get asap. Cant wait to have a car that is good on gas 🙌🏾. Going to save so much money if the gas prices go up agin 💸 ‼️
i waited for 3 weeks for mine. i hope yours would be a shorter wait
It also looks like the Corolla has LED turn signals on the side mirrors while the Prius has none.
Thanks for another great video. In a year from now if the inventory situation improves, please do a Prius le fwd vs Corolla le fwd. If I buy one, it would be with as little options as possible.
Nice review. Technically, well done with the split screen comparing the same segments of two different models. Useful and well done. Some addl commentary:
Your choice to review the top of line Corolla hybrid vs prius, slants the deck.
Going for Prius! Thanks for the review
As much as I'd like to get the Prius over the Corolla, the shortages and dealer markup make it next to impossible to recommend getting over the Corolla.
Bulletproof is the most advanced feature of a car. Thank you Toyota for not having any problems what so ever in 15 years.
A few things I'd like to know as it's been some time since I was a young fellow. Ease of entry into the vehicles, and ground clearance. My old Prius could not get over some speed bumps without scraping the bottom.
Absolutely excellent review.
Thank you kindly!
No matter what, there both Toyota’s they make an awesome product. I would take both.
I love your new glasses
Great comparison. Both are impressive for the price. The huge A pillars on the Prius limits forward visibility, so I tend towards the Corolla. I don't mind driving ugly cause I don't have to look at it.
Thank you for the informative video. Are any of these plug-in Hybrids?
You're welcome! The Prius can be had as a plug-in hybrid (Prius Prime)
Excellent presentation fella's.... Thanks!
Thank you it really great comparison
Glad you liked it!
❤TOYOTA❤
I wonder if the new generation Prius redesigned the seats. I've driven both of the last two generations on a few occasions and they had the most uncomfortable seats of any car I've ever driven. Even more uncomfortable than Tesla seats.
That's hard but I don't know much about the prius so I'm going have to go with the Corolla
I did a little research on Google and for maximum driving distance it said the Prius goes 644 miles and the Corolla goes 660 miles maximum driving distance
The Prius has a 11.3 gallon gas tank while the Corolla has a 11.3 or 13.2 gallon gas tank
The Prius may have more features and I do like the new look of it, but personally I would probably get the Corolla Hybrid simply for the maximum driving distance on 1 tank of gas
You compared the "top of the line" of both vehicles - Prius - limited and the Corolla XLE.
WHY?
Why not compare:
Prius - LE and the Corolla LE
* The average consumer is simply looking for an average car price, a price that we/ I can afford and simply put " more value for the buck" Skip the moon roof the fake leather seating, cool seats..
I think the corolla hybrid is the ultimate "sensible" car.
What if you were driving a crocodile and it chewed up all your seats, what would you say?
I test drove the 2023 prius a few months ago and the gauge cluster was a deal breaker. Looks like the gauge cluster is still a problem
Lower the steering wheel, numnuts!
cant decide between a Prius XLE or Corolla SE Hybrid. can save $5k with the Corolla and still get good looks and better visibility. gas cost per year is only about total $100 difference given 10k estimated miles driven. but the Prius is still very nice. thoughts anyone?
Any noticable difference in the rear window visibility? Historically Priuses have narrow visibility due to the angle of the hatchback.
It's better than the old model but not fantastic still
I bought prius 2024 it's garbage I'm decided trade for corrola 2024 hybrid
Explain...
Prius
Prius looks very sleek
I would pick the sexy Prius
Both, Because they fun for me to buy them.
Thanks guys !
Add $1200 for snow tires for the Pruis. The Corolla will get by with all season or all weather tires year round. Also old bodies want to know about comfortable seats.
The hybrid Corolla is available in a station wagon model in Europe but not here. This would be a ideal vehicle for North America.
Does corolla 2025 will be all new ?
Prius driver here . Just speaking truth . I have a 2010 and a 2022 . Best cars I ever bought . Don’t get me wrong get a lot of hate on road because I am judged . I could drive a big Tundra to fit in Nah… Corolla drivers are mainly the drivers that are embarrassed to be seen in a Prius . O well I guess . I don’t care what people think .
Could you guys do a Lexus UX hybrid also?
Prius prime or Tesla Model 3?
Primes are near impossible to find, at least by me. I have yet to see one hit a local dealers lots. Also, the M3 is cheaper if you qualify for the tax credit. I lean heavily towards the model 3
I went with Prime, but good luck finding one or not waiting two years for delivery.
IMHO, for most people, who can charge at home, Model 3 LR makes more sense and is considerably cheaper, but I personally really do not like quality control of Tesla, their UX (blinker, shifter, wipers) and UI (I like buttons).
Model 3 definitely. PHEVs are stupid
@@japkoslavI am looking at a Lucid Air Pure, Tesla Model S and a Porsche Taycan base, I like the MS but I can’t agree with its built quality, Taycan is nice but $120+. Most like with buy the Lucid base trim at $77k.
Prius for me better, because looks mutch better, better fuel economy, better sound insulation.
The new Prius looks very impressive, but I would go with the Corolla as I've always been a sedan guy. I've purchased five vehicles so far (all sedans) as my first was a 2006 Corolla S that I bought new back in the day.
You never mentioned All Wheel Drive, nor ground clearance, nor winter weather conditions. 🙂 People in Oregon wanna know. lol
Maybe look at a RAV4 if you’re truly worried about that?
the Pruis improved its look but im going corolla all day
Prius for sure
Great analysis guys. I'm a 70yr old senior who has loved cars ALSO. I learned off u guys, I thought Corolla was a 2.0. If I was a Toyota engineer. I would have put a 2.0 in a Corolla & 19" wheels on it. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????
6k is a big difference.
You cannot compare 1.8 from 2008 and the next gen 2.0 d4s engine from 2018. D4s or dynamic force engine is next gen engine with 8 injectors and electric intake cam. 6000 difference just for engine alone annulate in comparison
What is it with car makers No Rear Vents in Cars ???!!!
I am very happy with my new Prius XLE AWD.
Did you just accelerate the corolla in a uphill road?
Family fight is the best
Why do they say here the Prius sells for high 30’s,dealer prices are near 50 k,way to expensive
Just to confirm: you felt the Prius Prime was more "fun" than the no-Prime version?
bailed out when i saw half a point awarded for bigger wheels. i hate big wheels like that. the looks, the ride and the efficiency. 16's are way better. you said objective then immediately made a subjective decision.
It's literally more wheel, nothing subjective about it. Ride quality was judged later in the test drives
For the price, I'd probably get the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
The Prius does have vents under the seats, At least mine does.
Because the Tesla model 3 exists, prime price has to be $26,000 max.
100 prius far better looking car plus corrola too many on roads prius more unique and inside feels more spaced and comfy inside
Weird
Lastly, the multiple commercial breaks are too long, 20+ seconds each? C'mon.
Thanks for some feedback. We don't have any control over the ads you see or their length .
@@CarConfections ok, thanks for clarifying that.
Cheers.
The prius is futuristic, i drive a toyota from 2006.😂😂😂
Toyota's are for us old people. You youngsters should be driving a fast BMW or Honda.
I'm 24 years old and I want to buy a Toyota Camry
I thought the Toyota Corolla SE was the top trim model
