After 10 years with the Toyota Prius C, I wanted more power and ground clearance. I've waited quite awhile for a Rav4 Hybrid but everything was indicating the wait was going to be well over a year and possibly closer to two. I opened my search to gasoline only again. The Subaru Crosstrek hit everything I wanted. It is closer in size to my 2002 Rav4 and the price was amazing in comparison to Toyota. I am one month in and the AWD is so much fun in Minnesota. The Toyota hybrids are great but kind of a waste to discuss if Toyota can't speed up the supply. Thank you for reviews on the SUVs and allowing me to break away from 30 years of Toyota. I couldn’t justify the price jump to Lexus. The features I wanted moved me to Subaru.
My 2011 Prius has been an absolute workhorse for the family in my business. She’s gone over 250,000 miles with very little maintenance. Only now has the mileage started to decrease a little, but I still get about 45 miles per gallon on regular basis. The leather seats still look good although they are a getting a little frayed around the edges from constant heavy use, but overall it’s built like a tank. It’s about time for me to upgrade, and I think the new Prius looks lovely with its sleek sexy lines, but my only worry is the poor rear visibility. This has been my biggest gripe with the Prius, and I finally installed a video enhanced rearview mirror. The only other problem is the low aerodynamic nose which constantly gets hooked on curbs when I pull into a parking space. The flimsy plastic aero shell underneath has to be constantly reattached with the zip ties 😅. I’ve been thinking about the new RAV4 plug-in hybrid. I know the mileage isn’t quite as much as the Prius, but I would like a little higher ground clearance, and better rear visibility …. but I’m worried about availability. My poor little workhorse might have to last a few more years after getting put on a long waitlist 😂
The 2024 rear visibility is a concern. I have a Prius and the new one's rear visibility without a windshield wiper is a concern, even with new safety technologies😥
A 2011? With 250000 miles? You’ve barely broken it in! :). Toyota reliability rules! Some seat covers and a lift kit and you’re good for another decade :)
Love the Prius but my wallet loves the Corolla. I enjoy all your reviews! One small grammar comment. I believe it is fewer features not less. (Fewer in number less in amount) Keep up the informative and entertaining content.
First of all, thank you Motormouth, for a review that was all about features that really matter to most people. None of that "oohs and aahs" about the looks and more about it's functional features related in a mature, thorough, and well-grounded discussion..
I've owned a Corolla, a Camry and currently have a '14 Prius. I like the Prius for the ability to haul things easier, and the size just feels right to me. I ordered a 2023 Prius XLE AWD mainly because of the new design and features, along with the idea that I will buy my first NEW car, vs a lease return. Toyota is reliable in that all I've ever had to do with the Prius is a brake job. The Camry needed a timing belt, but that was all and it lasted 25 years. The Corolla looks interesting, but like I said, the size of the Prius feels more comfortable for me. Unfortunately there's a long waiting list for delivery in Minnesota. Currently my 2014 Prius is still worth almost as much in trade in value as I paid for it eight years ago, which shows the overall value of Toyota.
By the way….LOVE your very thorough and informative car reviews. You guys rock ! I used to hang out at UBC in my formative years. For a poor, young, and innocent Seattle college student, Vancouver was the “big city” and made for fun weekends. Those huge hedge lined streets were always so beautiful and impressive. My favorite place in Vancouver !
I'm that guy who cancelled his Rav4 order to get the Prius, howdy. :) Yes, I want a car. This ocean of SUVs is boring me. Gimme the car, it'll be just fine. Great video, guys!
Best of the best car reviews,if I was to pick my top 5 TH-cam car channels, motormouth would be no 1 and still be my only other alternative, exceptional 💯🔥
Great information to be had as always! I was really on the fence about which one I wanted. After watching this, it's going to be the Corolla Hybrid! I really wouldn't mind having a hatchback this time around but, $5,000 in my pocket is much better than theirs. Thank you!
I’m on the same boat, I’m torn between the top trim Corolla hybrid vs the hybrid xle. I feel like I’d rather keep 5k in my pocket but I also don’t want to regret not financing an extra 5k and gotten what I really wanted up front
Just bought my Toyota Corolla XLE FWD (16 inch wheels) hybrid today for $28,000. It’s the price point, and the gas savings for me. It’s like I’ll be saving in gas more a year for what it will naturally depreciate for. Didn’t care for the “sportier” SE or XSE… although it looks cooler, it’s only like 140hp… not a sports car. Why try to look like one? I’m loving it so far!! I really love the tech/safety features for the price point as well. It was cheaper and easier to get than a Prius where I live. I just can’t see spending $10k more for the same flavor of car just because this one looks pretty. Although the new Prius design is pretty. I’m just trying to get from a to b and buy a house one day and not have too much debt when I do. My husband owns a 2020 4Runner, so we have some variety on what we drive. Only thing I wish I could’ve gotten was the AWD but it is surprisingly never ordered where I live and I was at the mercy of picking the cars that people had ordered months ago and decided they no longer wanted.
I think the 15" wheels on the Corolla are the key to it's feeling of power in the uphill test. The smaller the wheel the quicker the acceleration, bigger the wheel the harder it is to get moving. Surprising how many vehicles, especially electric ones, that are coming onto the market with 19" and 20" wheels as they are performance killers WRT acceleration and range/economy because of their mass.
Large wheels and low profile tires have significantly more rolling resistance. The reason they have the sporty look is the high powered cars with big disc brakes made big wheels a necessity.
Been waiting for this review Andrea, the Prius is an amazing upgrade on the previous model. Must say it's the Prius for me as it just looks outright better.
Kudos to the two of you for providing some of the best reviews. I am currently in Hong Kong, but when I return to the US, I will need a new car, and I’m considering both of these two. vehicles. I also plan on looking at the Accord hybrid and the Civic hybrid (when it comes out).
@@Flying-Fox19 This is a Canadian channel and wagons NEVER went out of style in Canada. If anyone knows that it is Toyota who gave us an extra model year of Matrix, Venza and Prius V. We lost our access to wagons because Americans don't buy them.
Thanks for your reviews. We tried both the Prius and Corolla and ended up buying a Corolla Hybrid SE AWD and we love it. For a small car, it is zippy. Also very gas efficient!
I bought a 2024 Corolla SE Hybrid almost 2 months ago and I’ve been really enjoying it. I think it is very true that the Prius has moved up in the market and is priced at a higher level than it used to be. I tried to get a Prius LE but couldn’t find one that was available, and the XLE, Limited, and Prime were all much too expensive for me, so I ended up going for the SE Corolla Hybrid. I have been very impressed by how well the Corolla drives, the MPG it’s getting (I’m averaging 48 MPG) and the great looks of it too. I was also able to get a moon roof, wireless charger, and blind spot monitoring on my Corolla and it was still much more affordable than the XLE Prius. The new Prius is looking great, but it seems that the Corolla is filling the spot that the Prius used to fill before it became a more luxurious vehicle.
@@dproulx222 I actually didn’t have to wait for the Corolla to be delivered. I visited a Toyota dealer and they had just received two of the 2024 SE Corolla Hybrids, so I guess my timing was perfect thankfully. I was able to get the car at the sticker price without any market price adjustments, but this Toyota dealership I went to already had some add-on features installed in the car that I couldn’t remove, (sun roof and wireless charger) so the price jumped up from that. I believe the price I paid after tax and some dealership fees was about $31,000.
I think both are great gas mileage cars and both looks like a futuristic exterior design. Like you said the price wise, Corolla is a winner. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻 P.S. Your car looks got rain earlier. Cheers! ☕️☕️
I didn't understand why my Corolla LE AWD was rated at higher MPG than what was claimed for the base model. I think it's the package that includes the 16 Alloy wheels. The difference in wheels makes a 3-4 mpg difference? I've been told that I can get 15" Alloy wheels that will fit on my car (and NOT upset the speedometer) to increase the MPG a bit more. I'll think about that down the road when my present tires wear out. I do think that the LE ALE with convenience package is the best option for me. I don't need the moon roof, and while the heated power seats are nice to have, the standard seats are quite comfortable as is, and the manual seats are a set once and forget about it as I'm the only person who will be driving this car (I'll have to reset the seats each time I bring the car into the shop for maintenance, but that's not a problem). Don't need the wireless phone charger as my phone lacks that feature. The larger screen on the dash would be nice, but not worth the price. Only real thing I'll miss between the Corolla and Prius is the larger 'trunk' space, but I need that so little of the time (some trips to Costco). Still, can overflow into the back seat. And the MPG difference between the two cars would take SOOO long to capture the difference in price. If you compare actual out the door price, the Prius is actually between $6000-11,000 more than the Corolla. Finally, if you have a way to charge an EV at home, then the new Prius Prime is worth looking at, though it will cost a few thousand MORE than the standard Prius.
Put money down on a new prius xle awd last month when it was listed in transit and expecting delivery by end of august. Very excited. This will be my first toyota, first hybrid and first prius. Absolutely love the new redesign. Looks like a coupe and has a sporty appearance. With only around 36,000 units alocated to north america i belive, this car will be very hot by end of year. Kudos to Toyota for finally making an attractive hybrid.
i like this channel because you guys talk about things that matter: rear seat comfort and drivetrain. can you compare the V6 Honda Pilot to the V6 Toyota Highlander?
Thank you very much, we appreciate the kind words. We are just waiting for the Pilot to arrive in Vancouver, we are late on this one, not sure what the hold up is with Honda. Once we drive the updated Highlander and the new Pilot, we'll do a comparison for sure.
Hi there fellow Vancooverites.Been watching all you youtubes, and like the views and stats. As a senior ,crawling into low level cars is not fun,but I would choose the dull Corolla, and buy something sexy with the spare change. The taller cross model looks appealing but the smaller Kia /Hyundai models ( Venue ?)look interesting too.
@@tails300 I had read that. All the indications are that we will get the new C-HR instead of the new Prius and Corolla Cross. Like most Toyotas the C-HR has only been available as a Hybrid here for the past couple of years. The Corolla Hybrids (Hatchback and Wagon) have just had a mid life update to the engines, infotainment etc. They are made in the U.K. so that is probably why they are reluctant to bring in other models.
Just took delivery of my 2023 Prius Limited AWD this past Monday and I really love it. I live in PA and we do get snow so if it is too deep for the Prius, I'll drive the 2019 Highlander Hybrid AWD. This is my third Prius and by far the best driver. The roof line may be a problem for tall drivers and stepping out of the car may be an issue for older drivers. All that being said even a rabid Mustang owner loved the styling of the new Prius.
I've been a Toyota driver my whole life: first car I got in high school was the Corolla. Then I had a Camry SE. Now I've been driving a Prius 2010 for 13 years. It's going strong with 120,000 miles...but I am thinking about trade in now. Good review/comparison of the two cars. I've always equated the Corolla as being more popular because of its value. I'm in the SE US, and the 2023 Prius Prime is peaking my interest: even more power in hybrid, and good electric range for my city driving in Atlanta. Before seeing the 2023 Prius, I was considering maybe going with an electric car (because the previous generation Prius was so ugly). Right now it does seem as though availability is an issue. I can't test drive any 2023 Prius right now (they're being bought in advance). I've found a dealership that's going to contact me when there are Prius Prime allotments. I can budget for any trim: the XSE Premium has some features I'd like. But I have doubts that it's a trim that will make it to the SE region (right now I see a SE and XSE available in a couple weeks). But I can wait and see if there's more supply in the coming months.
I ordered the 2023 Prius, excited about the purchase, but shortly afterwards learned that with the raked hood and roof it didn't have roof racks and it would be hard to put anything on the roof. I ended up switching to the Corolla Cross Hybrid. It looks great. Great on gas, although not as good as the Prius. More practical, although I am not an SUV fan really, but it's also 6 inches shorter which when parking on a city street makes a bit of a difference. I am still questioning the switch though. I love the Prius, but I don't think it will work for me. Let's see how long I have to wait.
I think the real problem with the Prius is that it is now relying on good looks and improved driving dynamics but worse cargo practicality to capture a new consumer marketshare. Prius buyers are inherently practical people and when you take away all the practical that was such a big part of previous gens, you're basically making them think twice about buying a Prius over a similarly priced Camry Hybrid for example!
For years the Prius was the Uber / Taxi of choice in the U.K. Since the Corolla Wagon came out with the same powertrains that seems to be taking over. So much so that we won't even be getting the new Prius.
You're right about the practicality. Adding sex appeal to the Prius is appreciated, but the Corolla/Camry hybrids have now moved ahead in practicality. Although, imo the Prius Prime recaptures it for anyone willing to dig deep in the pockets.
@@MrDuncl Good point. I was told at the Chicago auto show that the Prime battery was the same size as the regular Prius. Sounds unlikely, but Toyota has shifted to lithium batteries this year if that is a factor. We shall see.
I go for Corolla Hybrid top model instead of Prius Hybrid. Again if I am looking for SUV I will choose Venza Hybrid Limited instead of RAV4 Hybrid Limited . At least Venza is make in Japan 🇯🇵 feature and benefit is way more than RAV4 Hybrid. Thank you very much for your very detailed information!
The Corolla offers a very compelling package, especially at the top end compared to the Prius. Having owned both at one time I would however pick the new Prius. The design inside and out, plus the new horsepower and excellent fuel economy give the edge for me, even if the price is higher. I’m pass the age of conventional and boring. I want a little more excitement in my life.
Good segment guys. If a Prius can take a roof box and trailer hitch to tow a small amount, I'd go Prius, as it is claimed to handle well. rented a Rav 4 and was underwhelmed by the highway sense of control.
The Prius got pricey this current generation. I went to the Chicago Auto Show a couple weeks ago and i was surprised how big the trunk is on the Corolla. I would consider a Corolla for me since it fits my style and personal life. My only bad thing i would not consider the Prius is that size of the tires. You can't find tires that are specified for the new Prius. They're too thin in width with 19" or even 17".
I was looking at the corolla because my current corolla is getting a bit high in miles, yet as I looked the base model LE here in Phoenix is being advertised at 29k no where near 23k that Toyota claims it should start. Even if you consider destination and no “extras” you should see them around 25k so not sure were they are claiming the extra 4k price difference. The best “unicorn” I could find was one at just about 26k and it didn’t seem like the dealer actually had it. My biggest annoyance searching for a new car is all the “in transit” cars that they don’t have but also some how “just sold” at the same time. It’s about this time I would say go shop for a used one but the most “reasonable” one was a 2021 being sold at 29k with almost 60k miles so not worth it either.
It would be interesting to know what the resale value of the new Prius would be in 5 to 10 years vs the resale value of the Corolla (at the same trim levels) in the same period... maybe the savings would not be that great if the Prius returned a much higher resale to the sales price.
Nice comparison. I saw a european review of a Toyota Corolla Touring , AWD hybrid...a Station Wagon!! For SUV haters like me why doesn't Toyota bring that to Canada? Sedan comfort, practical space and good looks too.
Toyota’s pricing is very well thought out. What Toyota didn’t properly think out was that Rear Defuser… really Toyota? That’s a bit of a stretch. Otherwise … both products look pretty good. Thanks for the video.
Here’s my dilemma, in the US idk about Canada, the Limited trim prius cost as much as the CAMRY hybrid, XSE with the most loaded option at 35k so if someone wanted a hybrid car. The camry hybrid gets the same real world Mpg, has the same options available, has more interior space, and has 208 horsepower non plug in.
I buy Toyota hybrids for my business, and we currently have a 2022 Prius Prime and a 2022 Camry Hybrid. Like all Toyotas before them, they are boring, austere and have frustratingly bad tech. But… they just work. The Camry in particular is an amazing car. We get 46mpg and it’s a highway missile. Smooth as glass and quiet at 100mph while offering a lot of comfort and space. As we expand, the new Prius is on our radar but so is the hybrid Corolla.
I often drive 20 Camry xle hybrid with all option package (surround view, swivel headlights, jbl, hud, etc…) and that car is faraway from being quiet when cruising 100mph on the highway. I don’t know what was your previous car but it sure doesn’t glide on the highway compared to ‘nice sedans’. And the average mpg is roughly 33mpg if you drive normally, but 28-30mpg range if you are in a hurry. I also use 22 rav4 hybrid se as a daily, and the build quality is nonexistent. Every single plastic trims and pieces rattle and shake, and the dealer refuses to fix it. The average mpg for the rav4 is 26-28mpg if I drive comfortably, around 33-34mpg for being conscious. I can push 38+mpg if I don’t care about other people. The lowest average I got was below 20mpg, I believe it was like 18.8mpg at flat out. And yes it’s a hybrid. Toyota hybrids get ok mpg at low speeds especially during traffic hours, but if you drive 85+mph the numbers drop significantly compared to gas only models.
thanks so much for that little update and correction! I couldn't see how that would be true, that the Corolla hybrid only has a measly 105 hp????!!! if we're talking about one of the best economy cars in its class if not the one who wrote the book! I had a 1996 Corolla? I know not the trim level but I was only the 2nd owner and drove it until it threw a cylinder 16 years later! Her name was Bessie and we loved her a lot! My kids grew up in that car and we had so much fun during that time in that very dependable very reliable car! Currently, I'm trying to raise my credit score to get out of my 2016 Honda Civic which has also served my family well, except for the maintenance schedule that pops up repeatedly and too soon too close to the last HUGE CHUNK of change it cleaned out of my bank acct from the last big dollar maintenance ordeal! I'm going back to a Toyota and a hybrid at that to be on the safe side of not having to go to the pump every frickin' day to fill up at over $25 for a HALF tank of gas in a 2016 HONDA CIVIC! Jeez infrastructure a little mercy please I drive Uber to survive and lately, that's not even doing it and I'm out in that car at least 6 to 8 hours a day trying! So that is my reasons for needing to get back into a Toyota Corolla and this time a Hybrid Le AWD I believe would be in order! Although If anyone feels the need to gift me with a Prius LE with the best mpg, then by all means I'm grateful for whatever flows my way and eases my daily pain of having to give grocery money over at the pump!
Great review! I really like the look of the new Prius but cannot justify the price given the similarities with other cars in fuel economy and features. I'm also looking at the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid which throws in the 10yr/100k warranty into the mix 🤔
great video. Don’t understand Toyota’s decision to not include AWD on the top model of the Corolla in the US. I live in the North East region, AWD is a must. Come on Toyota 😂🤷♂️🤷♂️. I just need a commuter car to take kids to school.
Good Review, thanks. My wife and I really like the Prius but disappointed by lack of head room. While the height of folks increases, the headroom in many small cars gets smaller. Our family has always had Camrys and the same holds true for that model. Our first 2005 model had the most headroom and the newer models have less now. Our shortest family member is 6'-0" foot and THEY notice it. Our kids are all in sports and their taller friends (and parents) all have the same complaints about their Toyotas. Lack of head and leg room. If your tall and sitting in the front, you have to recline a bit to get comfortable, but then anyone sitting in the back-seat gets crunched. We're calling you out TOYOTA . . . please add 2 inches to both headroom, legroom, and really; the same thing for the back seat. That's why more folks are looking at SUV's. We have one, and never take our Camry anywhere if there will be more than 2 people going along.
I will say, I just got my Toyota Corolla hybrid XLE today but I am 5’2”.. I definitely noticed my husband at 6’4” in the passenger seat looking a little crammed. He said he was fine though.
Traded in my 21 Hybrid Rolla for a 24 Prius Prime. I absolutely love the way it looks and man does that 2.0 litter engine feel snappy. It's more expensive but the Corolla Hybrid just feels so lack luster inside - of course this is switching from the base LE model of the Rolla to the XSE Prius Prime. They both get the job done but if you have some extra cash, I'd go for the Prius.
I will buy a Corolla because they last forever unlike the Prius. How many old Prius can you see on the streets today. But twenty years old Corollas are ubiquitous today. Corolla is forever. Reliability, longevity, affordability, and popularity are major reasons why Corolla is king.
Great information on both cars. The pricing for the Corolla in the that States is lower but can't get the features like all-wheel drive on the higher model. That's strange 🤔
I would buy the Prius for rear hatch and storage and obviously fuel economy and looks. I like the low design of both the Prius and Corolla as they allow easier access to the roof for loading kayaks etc, much easier than an SUV like the Rav4.
this one is clear a Basic Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE AWD winner. previously, people drive prius to save money on gas. and now prius become more like a luxury car. with that high price it really competing with lexus hybrid. I know people impress by the new PRIUS look but after 6 month you will see it everywhere in taxi waiting place.
New Prius is worth the extra dosh. Looks MUCH better, inside and out. Much more power, more usable space and versatility with the hatchback... New Prius all day, easily worth the extra 5 G's.
Hi guys. You always give mileage for all your reviews. There is a sizable difference between US gal and Imp gal. Do you take that into account. Love your reviews. Randy
@@snodsgrass In the U.K. cars are always rated in MPG while petrol is sold in litres ! You might think that the Government doesn't want people to know how much it costs a Gallon.
I chose the Prius - the quality of life additions it had made a big difference. Keyless entry, better performance, and wireless apple CarPlay were big factors, besides it’s amazing looks.
I drive a 2009 prius coming from a 2004 prius. The new prius takes away the best functionality of the previous gens. Nice headroom back and front, step in/out to chair position seating rather than crouch to a lounge position and need to climb back out, a gigantic rear space with the tall hatch and lowered back seat, a gear shifter that takes up a few inches of dash space conveniently just a few inches from your hand on the steering wheel rather than a stupid shifter (which it isn't) sticking out of the most valuable space in the car (you know, before the brands caved to the car reviewer "influencers/car enthusiasts" (how many buyers, especially of this type, are car enthusiasts?) that seem to think that everyone NEEDS to have their hand on an antiquated shifter so they can feel more like a race car driver. (I can picture the engineers' face palms when told by the marketing department that the influencers told them to bring back the ridiculous "shifter" (which isn't)!)). Living in Canada I would love a tiny electric motor on my rear wheels though rather than the tiny light weight motor over the front wheels struggling to drag the heavyish large rear area and battery through the snow and ice. In the gen2 with no way to turn off the aggressive traction control it is actually a safety hazard. I guess the more expensive Rav4 with lower fuel efficiency will have to do for my next vehicle.
The Corolla hybrid SE AWD is the winner for me. It hits that sweet spot in styling and features. I really like the new Prius but it’s just too much money. You’re in the EV price range at that point so why even bother?…
I noticed that the new Prius is two inches lower in the roof. This is not good for over 6 footers! Also, what happened to my big screen in the new Prius? That front screen seems blocked by the steering wheel.
I would prefer the Prius but the price is too much no matter how stunning and powerful it is. I'd make do with the less powerful drivetrain. However I think the sales of both will suffer a lot once the Corolla Cross Hybrid is out. These days though with all the supply chain issues you'll probably have to make do with what is available.
I m tired of all the SUVs. I am happy that there are car companies willing to break the mold and make sedans. I like both the Prius and the Corolla hybrid. I do not live where four wheel drive is needed, so two wheeled drive is fine with me. There is a lot of hype right now about the Prius - who would have ever thought! I live in mid-America and I doubt we will ever see a Prius until later in 2023. Many dealers here are marking up vehicles way above MSRP to try to recover loses of the past two years. Many folks in the US are car crazy and are willing to pay the inflated prices. So I will just hold off a while and maybe by 2024 things will calm down and then I will make my decision about which one I will choose. By the way I enjoy your vehicle reviews. But I will tell you what I tell every reviewer: remember in your reviews it is the vehicle that is important, not the reviewer. So maybe more air time to looking at the vehicle and less looking at the reviewer!
Toyota's pricing and equipment groupings utterly confound me. Thinking that the hybrid Corolla Cross is actually the best option for me, but also think that the hybrid Corolla sedan is a really good deal.
$9 k difference is too much for looks and 50 more hp . Plus it has the negative of the strange dash . I'm waiting to see the cross I think it is going to be the sweet spot
I would choose the Prius over the Rav 4 Hybrid. Problem is in Canada you can't get either one. I've had a Rav 4 Ltd Hybrid on order since June 22. No idea when I'll see it. Canadians should boycott all Toyota products as they fill US orders first.
I miss the days of ordering a car with just the features you want. Packages are designed to make you buy things you don’t want, like heated seats and a heated steering wheel, in order to get something you do want. It feels like arm twisting to me, and drives up the price.
I’m guessing the usability of the cargo area is better on the Prius? I’m hoping they can meet consumer demand with both of these vehicles. The inability of Toyota and Lexus to produce vehicles is alarming.
I like the Prius more overall, except for the price. It starts at $39,000 in Canada? Suddenly, the Corolla hybrid is starting to look good !
I just got the 23 Corolla. This was the dealbreaker in my decision
@@asyasmith7370Corolla hybrid? What mpg are you getting?
You guys keep getting better. Definitely nearing the top of the trusted reviewers on my list. Keep it up!
Toyota is known for reliability
Get a lift kit!
A 2011? With 250000 miles? You’ve barely broken it in! :). Toyota reliability rules! Some seat covers and a lift kit and you’re good for another decade :)
Have you looked at the Corolla Cross ? Or maybe wait a bit to see what the new C-HR is like.
Love the Prius but my wallet loves the Corolla. I enjoy all your reviews! One small grammar comment. I believe it is fewer features not less. (Fewer in number less in amount) Keep up the informative and entertaining content.
Fewer grammar police would make comments less fun 😊.
Did you already got your prius?
By the way….LOVE your very thorough and informative car reviews. You guys rock ! I used to hang out at UBC in my formative years. For a poor, young, and innocent Seattle college student, Vancouver was the “big city” and made for fun weekends. Those huge hedge lined streets were always so beautiful and impressive. My favorite place in Vancouver !
Thank you, really glad you are enjoying the reviews. Yes, UBC is great, not only a beautiful area but fun as well.
Wreck beach is greater.
I'm that guy who cancelled his Rav4 order to get the Prius, howdy. :)
Yes, I want a car. This ocean of SUVs is boring me. Gimme the car, it'll be just fine.
Great video, guys!
Best of the best car reviews,if I was to pick my top 5 TH-cam car channels, motormouth would be no 1 and still be my only other alternative, exceptional 💯🔥
Wow, thanks!
That's really sweet, thank you!
Great information to be had as always! I was really on the fence about which one I wanted. After watching this, it's going to be the Corolla Hybrid! I really wouldn't mind having a hatchback this time around but, $5,000 in my pocket is much better than theirs. Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you! That's a big savings, I feel the same way.
You are gonna regret it. Prius is a way better car for this gen, quicker, more MPG and newer design too.
Here in the U.K. the Corolla is only available as a hatchback or a wagon.
@@MrDuncl The new prius is a way better car if you are gonna pick one between the two regardless.
I’m on the same boat, I’m torn between the top trim Corolla hybrid vs the hybrid xle. I feel like I’d rather keep 5k in my pocket but I also don’t want to regret not financing an extra 5k and gotten what I really wanted up front
Great job of explaining the differences between the 2 cars Thank You!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for another excellent review. Look forward to the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
I'd get the Prius, It's looks great. I'd never thought I'd ever say that about a Prius.
Congratulations on the Corolla XLE FWD...
You have a great car... I envy you...
You made a wise decision.
I dunno - Geo Metros had 12 inch wheels and I can tell you it was no acceleration demon :)
Indeed, well said. And Toyota admitted that too. Large wheels and low profile tyres for purely aesthetic reasons only.
Large wheels and low profile tires have significantly more rolling resistance. The reason they have the sporty look is the high powered cars with big disc brakes made big wheels a necessity.
A larger wheel does not necessarily mean larger overall wheel and tire diameter. That can vary with the aspect ratio of the tire.
I would bet its more that the Prius has 42% more power while only being 11% heavier.
Been waiting for this review Andrea, the Prius is an amazing upgrade on the previous model. Must say it's the Prius for me as it just looks outright better.
What a difference is right, who would have thought I would use Sporty and Prius in the same sentence. lol!
@Andrea Spencer You and most of the motoring world there Andrea, it's been a fantastic change of gear!
@@timphillips4147 Absolutely!
I had the same experience. I ordered a RAV4 hybrid then switched to the Prius after driving them both again. These are such subjective calls...
Kudos to the two of you for providing some of the best reviews. I am currently in Hong Kong, but when I return to the US, I will need a new car, and I’m considering both of these two. vehicles. I also plan on looking at the Accord hybrid and the Civic hybrid (when it comes out).
Bring us the Corolla Hybrid wagon or bring back the Prius V!
I owned a Corolla wagon for 20 years and just loved it!
The Hybrid Corolla Cross model is coming this summer. SUV is in and wagons out. Sales dictate that sorry.
@@Flying-Fox19 This is a Canadian channel and wagons NEVER went out of style in Canada. If anyone knows that it is Toyota who gave us an extra model year of Matrix, Venza and Prius V. We lost our access to wagons because Americans don't buy them.

Thank you for explaining the new Canadian regs re added fees now being included in the price! Very helpful to know this!
You are very welcome, It's important information to share.
Both are fantastic. As a current Prius owner, a new Gen Prius is the winner. More versatility with the hatch
How long did you wait for your Corolla Hybrid SE to be delivered?
MSRP?
@@dproulx222 I actually didn’t have to wait for the Corolla to be delivered. I visited a Toyota dealer and they had just received two of the 2024 SE Corolla Hybrids, so I guess my timing was perfect thankfully. I was able to get the car at the sticker price without any market price adjustments, but this Toyota dealership I went to already had some add-on features installed in the car that I couldn’t remove, (sun roof and wireless charger) so the price jumped up from that. I believe the price I paid after tax and some dealership fees was about $31,000.
@@generaled.4601 Thanks for the reply... Much appreciated...
I think both are great gas mileage cars and both looks like a futuristic exterior design. Like you said the price wise, Corolla is a winner. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻 P.S. Your car looks got rain earlier. Cheers! ☕️☕️
Both are great choices, but that price difference is so big, I am still going with the Corolla.
@@andreaspencer9813 Great! Let’s buy it! 😉😆
Same I get my car in august too! A xle with the updated infotainment system. So hyped.
i like this channel because you guys talk about things that matter: rear seat comfort and drivetrain. can you compare the V6 Honda Pilot to the V6 Toyota Highlander?
Great comparison. For my family price matters. With 2 kids in University it’s the Corolla for me.
Glad you liked the video! It's a substantial savings with the Corolla and it's a great car.

Hope they bring the Corolla Hybrid Hatchback to the states.
Do you get the C-HR? A brand new more practical one is supposed to be arriving later in the year.
@@MrDuncl it’s been discontinued in America.
That Prius. Damn it looks nice
I love it too, but no rear AC vents even on the limited model is a no good for me.
For sure I would love to buy a Corolla wagon hybrid that is on sale in Europe
The Uber drivers vehicle of choice 🙂 Not a joke. I think the Gas mileage and reliability is very attractive to them.
Enjoyed this video! Very informative!
@@jperin001 Has anyone seen the new Prime ? In the 4th generation PHEV the battery seems to take up most of the luggage space reducing practicality.
@@MrDuncl Good point. I was told at the Chicago auto show that the Prime battery was the same size as the regular Prius. Sounds unlikely, but Toyota has shifted to lithium batteries this year if that is a factor. We shall see.
Missing a hard critique on driver’s seat comfort and driving position, especially on longer drives - that’s my main peeve with my 2020 corolla hybrid
The new Prius is made in Japan too, at least the ones we get in America are.
Wonderful review
Great sonny and Cher vest ANDREA 😂
haha, thank you!
Keep them until the wheels fall off
My wife loves her RAV4 hybrid. I prefer cars, but if they are the same price, I'd go with the RAV4.
Nice comparison. I saw a european review of a Toyota Corolla Touring , AWD hybrid...a Station Wagon!! For SUV haters like me why doesn't Toyota bring that to Canada? Sedan comfort, practical space and good looks too.
The change in the Corolla Hybrid drive is not a small one. It's an entirely new generation of the system.
Toyota’s pricing is very well thought out. What Toyota didn’t properly think out was that Rear Defuser… really Toyota? That’s a bit of a stretch. Otherwise … both products look pretty good. Thanks for the video.
I thought power and AWD availability was expanded on PRIUS?
I'm from the U.S. The Corolla LE Hybrid with a moonroof is good for me! Cheapest and lowest consumption to commute and travel, bar none...
so nice m also big fan nice review. keep it up .thanks
Thank you very much, so glad you enjoyed it.
I will get the Prius because it’s beautiful and sexy ! And VERY FUTURISTIC. I MISS CARS , NO SUV’s or electric cars .
I like the look of the Corolla. Its sportier. And more subtle looking at the same time.
Agree. Corolla hybrid over the Prius.
Value rules my world: Corolla Hybrid 👍
Would you say the Prius has a quieter cabin?
Great Review as always. What I'm waiting for is a Comparison between the Prius VS Crown. Do you think you'll ever being doing such a Comparison?
Great review 👍🏼
I am looking forward to purchasing the Toyota Corolla SE Hybrid because of it's capacity, mileage, and look. It has a decent price point.
thanks so much for that little update and correction!
This is a different review on both Toyotas yet both are great cars
Great comparison
I love Prius ,,,it looks more sporty,, and beautiful.
Congratulations on the Prius Prime.
How long did you have to wait?
What province are you in?
If you don't me asking what was the out-the-door price?
I will buy a Corolla because they last forever unlike the Prius. How many old Prius can you see on the streets today. But twenty years old Corollas are ubiquitous today. Corolla is forever. Reliability, longevity, affordability, and popularity are major reasons why Corolla is king.
Great information on both cars. The pricing for the Corolla in the that States is lower but can't get the features like all-wheel drive on the higher model. That's strange 🤔
The AWD is powered by electric

The Corollas with this grill look so much better than the ones with the other grill. Unfortunately it’s rear looks incredibly boring.
Also I am not a big fan of black wheels
I think the 2022 le grill looks better than the 2023 le model but you’re right, the se grills are nicer.
You’re in the EV price range at that point so why even bother?…
love both of them!
I noticed that the new Prius is two inches lower in the roof. This is not good for over 6 footers! Also, what happened to my big screen in the new Prius? That front screen seems blocked by the steering wheel.
Is the all glass roof going to be hot? Looks hot especially for this Florida guy.
I understand it’s an option in the XLE and standard on the Limited.
We'll be driving the Corolla Cross Hybrid at the end of March, looking forward to it.
In Europe the corolla also has the 2.0 which has been updated from 181hp to 197 for 2023 .
$9 k difference is too much for looks and 50 more hp . Plus it has the negative of the strange dash . I'm waiting to see the cross I think it is going to be the sweet spot
I would be interested in a review of the new Prius Prime. Is this in the works?

I would choose the Prius over the Rav 4 Hybrid. Problem is in Canada you can't get either one. I've had a Rav 4 Ltd Hybrid on order since June 22. No idea when I'll see it.
Canadians should boycott all Toyota products as they fill US orders first.
I don’t see the GR sport sedan Corolla ????
I miss the days of ordering a car with just the features you want. Packages are designed to make you buy things you don’t want, like heated seats and a heated steering wheel, in order to get something you do want. It feels like arm twisting to me, and drives up the price.
My sedan days are done for now, but if I had to choose one it would have to be the Prius.
I’m guessing the usability of the cargo area is better on the Prius?
I’m hoping they can meet consumer demand with both of these vehicles.
The inability of Toyota and Lexus to produce vehicles is alarming.
Yeah just put in a deposit on a Lexus hybrid SUV and wait time is 3-6 months minimum. We are ok with that since MSRP and no forced add ons.
I took delivery of my Prius this past Monday. I actually ordered it the week before Christmas so it took almost six months.
Need the Prius for trips to Ikea - can fit a lot of length in the back.
