  • We are back for part 2 of worlds BEST model car championship! The GSL Model Car Championship held every two years in Salt Lake City Utah.
    Perhaps the most competitive scale auto contest in the world is held in Salt Lake City every 2 years. Attracting model car builders from all over the world, many of these autos are scratch built. and many are detailed kits and modified kits.
    The contest is produced by the International Model Car Builders’ Museum in Salt Lake City. A unique museum presenting historic auto models and masters and patterns from some of the best know plastic models ever produced.
    www.themodelcarmuseum.org/
    • The International Mode...
    Founder Mark S. Gustavson has announced that they will be ending the GSL in 3 years. There will be one more in 2022. This may or may not end the championship, but will end the championship as we know it. Ending the worlds best model car contest will create a vacuum, and "shift in the force" that may lead to some follow up or redux, who can say. Time will tell......
    *******************************************************************
    From the web site:
    The GSL Championship was started in 1979 to provide an hospitable venue for professional-quality builders, of all ages, to compete where basic and advanced craftsmanship, innovation, and risk-taking are rewarded, respected and celebrated and where the friendly exchange of modeling information, ideas and techniques are encouraged. Additionally, attendees can enjoy and learn from a wide range of seminars, evening discussions , a day of tours of the International Model Car Builders’ Museum, the Museum-benefit Auction, and the Trade Show.
    Since the start of this now world-renowned competition, we’ve welcomed thousands of competitors from around the globe, drawing competitors from North and South America, Mexico, and Europe. Widely recognized as the arena for pleasant but stringent competition, GSL also presents three days of instructional seminars, a tour of the International Model Car Museum, a Museum-benefit auction and 4 days of convivial fun.

    Round 2 (ll) was a knockout. The best part of watching this type of episode is, unlike a full, or real, auto display, the camera covers the entire subject(s). Some amazing work, to be sure. Great episode. Greg and Jeanne

      Hi you two! Hope you are well and ready for new parts. When did you say you were going in? I myself have been helping a few doctors with their retirement plans as my hip or leg or back or knee is screwy. Not sure what’s messed up but those are the parts that hurt. So far several doctors with several opinions. Fortunately my leg is good at ignoring them and hurting all by itself.

    Informative and entertaining as usual. On a personal note, my wife and I decided to take a long weekend drive (from the Boston area) and wound up in Salt Lake City. A good chance to see the Big Boy. Boy was I upset when I found out the Museum was closed for an ART SHOW. I was unconsolable, but my wife told me I had to stop crying or I would probably wreck the car in your genteel SLC traffic. (Boy, I will never complain about Boston again) Keep up the good work.

    So many neat cars, I'm so much talent on display.
    The Whimsical car that has the number 61 on it is actually one of a series of kits that I think Revell did. They had the Volkswagen Baja they had a dune buggy, a Mustang a Z28 Camaro, a Firebird. They had a couple of others, all were all done in that whimsical caricaturist styling.

    • @krissfemmpaws1029
      @krissfemmpaws1029 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mind just wouldn't let go, I had to go looking for that model kit you show at 4:50 The kit is indeed a Revell kit it's called Baja Humbug. It's just one of many kits that Revell turned out based on David deals t-shirt art or artwork done by him.
      At times I think there was a fude going on between Deal and Roth to come up with the wildest car artwork.
      In this same time frame there was bubble gum that had the whacky car artwork by both Deal and Roth,I think it was called Odd Rods.
      Just a bit of me remembering stuff from 50 ish years ago.

    Hi guys, just love everything about this video. I can't believe the detail in these models, and those scratch built one's are simply stunning. I love your knowledge and enthusiasm in the commentary, you two are just brilliant together. Just to let you know though, the Utah license plate on the T coupe in the barn, I also have on my Monogram 1/24th scale 1970 Chevy Malibu. I made this back in my early teens, (I'm 53 now) and if I remember I used a few parts from other kits to make it a bit more special. I think the license plate was originally California Malibu but I can't remember where I got the Utah 000 AAA from. I still have this model, as well as half a dozen other muscle cars from my youth. Anyway keep these awesome videos coming.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is. Sort of in its own category. Scratch was it’s own category but now it’s just the basic groups. And the judges can try to figure out what to credit or give weight to. In the case of the Super 7 it’s all machined brass except the tires and body. Tires are machined in plastic and molds made. Then cast in RTV rubber. Body formed over wood with plastic.
