Just amazing details!! I've been a builder for over 50 years, some of the best I've ever seen. I've built a couple of hundred kits in my life, in 2009 I had over 150 in my collection ranging from big rigs, fire trucks, construction, NASCAR, street custom, dragsters, tow trucks, even was a " PRO " builder for awhile as I built and sold on eBay. I love this video. I hope to see some big rig categories and racing categories in the future. I'm " building " up my newest collection again. Currently have NASCAR, big rigs, and motorcycle kits. 1/25- 1/12 scale builds. Thanks for the video and it's great to see a husband and wife team both passionate about the same hobby. GOD bless both of you.
Great video guys. Thanks so much for sharing your coverage of the GSLMCC 2019 show. You are correct in saying that the last GSLMCC will be held in 2022. It will be sad to see it go but all great things come to an end. Thanks again for sharing your video.
It’s been a fixture for soooo long. I really want to finish my dang 1962 Lotus 22 for it. One last trip into the breach. And the dang model is mostly finished. I want to rebuild the frame in brass because the first one is plastic and keeps breaking. So that and a firewall and cockpit. Debating the tires. They are currently Urethane castings. Like to recast in rubber. But the hard plastic ones look fine. But rubber feels better. If someone touches them. But love to be IN the last GSL.
Just found out, after editing this show, the Super 7 won best of show as well as several other master awards. The orange Harley won best paint. Both totally scratch.
I'm now 54, and have been building these all of my life, on and off, along with ships, planes, subs, etc. This was a fabulous show! Great filming and commentary! Also, love your 'Stang!

I’ve got my Dad’s slot car collection, including several cars, bodies, controllers and toolbox. I used to race in Novice class for about a year or so in late sixties in SoCal.
This is the 1'st time I caught one of your presentations. While the models are fantastic, what is truly fantastic is the fact that your wife is into the hobby as much as you!
Good day! I don’t know what brand of paint that was but it was a great demonstration! I just wish I knew what they were demonstrating!! I do know it’s an actual automotive finish of some sort. Historically I have enjoyed using lacquers, but other than primer it’s just not available anymore at least not here. And even the primers are not what they once were.
Hi. Gotta love that Mach 1. 69 Mach has Always been one of me favorites. Karyn too. Although she is a died in the wool impala person. The 428 PI in close to what is in the Blue. But well it’s totally Frankenstein. 427 heads. Radical cam. Holly EFI. Mallory ignition. 428 crank. Oversized pop up pistons. Offenhauser intake. Hooker header. Hello I am new to the hobby and would like to try building a British classic car please can you recommend a kit ideal for a beginner to start with, and what tools etc should a beginner buy to get them started I’ve been watching a few modellers on you tube who are all very good in what they do but sadly I don’t understand what it is they are talking about 😞have you ever done a video which is step by step filmed in real time showing how to build a model kit suitable for a beginner such as myself any help is much appreciated Paul
Thank you for the great video. I couldn't be there this time but I will be there in 2021. If you have never been to NNL East be sure to get there next year!
Surprisingly I just got off the phone with Marc Gustavsson! A little mixup over a package that was sent to the wrong address. Anyway we talked a little bit about the upcoming show. Should be great
They’ve postponed the last show for a year. No point rushing into something that may have to be canceled so they’re just excepting the fact that they want to push back a year.
Just incredible!,I used to build car models ,still have some built ones and plenty of unbuilt ones up in the closet from when I was a kid (I'm 54) I wish I had the patience I once had as a younger man to paint all the small details , even if I did it would pale in comparison to the crazy awesome detail on these models!

Dale the music is perfect for this video!!!!!!!!! Also the comments you made about slot cars are very true they are back and I think a lot of guys are leaving model railroading for that hobby now.
There is a beat up old slot car center I know of. Dark. Dirty. 50 years old. Same guys racing there for the last 50 years with their 1:32 scale cars. Need to go shot up some video.
When slot cars hit the scene I took regular plastic model cars and converted them to slot cars. Being larger than the early cars the tracks soon increased to let these run.
Wow, those models put my detailed models to shame! Such great work! My eyes are no longer capable of building models anymore. As always loved the show!
I have the AMT Tyrone Malone's Kenworth Super Boss model kit still sitting on the top shelf of my closet waiting to be built. It is a classic kit from the 70's that has been brought back into limited production. Maybe someday I'll start on it.
Too late, it's already been opened. :) I have to make a correction, I had stated that this model kit was a limited production, it is not. I had confused the info from another model kit. Please accept my apologies. Below is the info that was found online; After countless requests, the Kats at AMT have dug deep in the tooling vault to uncover the most unique drag truck to ever speed down the quarter mile! Tyrone Malone’s Super Boss Kenworth delighted fans during the 1970s and the truly dedicated ones continue to keep the excitement alive. AMT’s landmark Retro Deluxe™ reissue will feature newly tooled, pad-printed tires, expanded authentic decals and more! KIT FEATURES: • 1/25 Scale, skill 3 • Molded in white • Super-detailed Kenworth drag truck with custom body and spoiler wing • All-new “Bandag” front & rear semi truck tires with padprinted lettering • Authentic expanded decal sheet with 1:1 version options • Bonus mini display box • Vintage Retro Deluxe™ packaging
Hello from Australia. Great stuff guys, really nicely done. I built model cars in my youth but they were never this good. I love your enthusiasm, it's brilliant!
Love the coverage of the model show great video Thank you. At the end of your video I saw how your harnesses are installed in your Mustang (video time 24:30). They are very dangerous this way, they could break your neck in an accident. They need to go back level with the top of your shoulders.
Wow. I need to look into that! These are not the original belts but connected to the same mounts. Shelby’s had centrifugal reels that let you lean forward. These don’t. Other than that the same.
Always wondered what Shelby was thinking back then but I promise it would not pass tech now in any sanctioning body. Just picture in a side impact or roll your body is going to go left or right your head is not and your neck will be held at it's weakest point. Here is a link to Simpson installation instructions. simpsonraceproducts.com/pdf/inst/Seat_Belt_Mounting.pdf all other brands are the same, I believe I have installed all of them and passed tech as well. @@ToyManTelevision
LOlin hi again. Been looking into this. Wow. So lots of people have fond what we have putting the racing harness in place of the Shelby. And the Shelby forums have scores of posts about how dangerous the Shelby set up was. But one guy seemed to know the facts. I hope. The key is that the Shelby belt and harness were two totally separate systems. They only even touched at the floor mount. The seat belt was the original mustang design. The harness was two straps the ran from the floor mount to the y and then to the reel. No buckle. You put it on like a jacket. Then put on the belt. They say the problem with a race harness that connects where the Shelby harness did is that in a wreck the harness pulls up on the belt and the belt pulls inward on the harness. So it’s very dangerous! But lots of people did that back in the day as it seems like a better setup than the Shelby. Also the Shelby harness functions as a head restraint as the seats are very short! So in order to put in a proper mount for the harness the seats have to go. We are going to take the car into the ranch (mustang ranch) and see what they can come up with. Assuming it can’t be done without either new seats or Shelby replacement harness. As the car is very not original I’m thinking seats. The ones in there are short and a bit worn. Moreover new seats may be able to be installed is such a way as to move them further back. Perhaps even a inch lower. Also adding a mount to the roll bar to mount the harness low will make it impossible to use the rear seat. That could be the reason Shelby did it the way he did. Food for thought.
That is good info. I have only worked on 2 real Shelby’s (which I love, mustang owner / lover myself) and have wondered and did not know why or for what reason the mount point was up there. It goes against everything I know about how belts should work and all the safety info they give you. @@ToyManTelevision
This is GREAT I love model contests! We just had one in our area! It was great. . . this takes kits to the next level! WOW. . .I can't wait to see more! We love toy cars!
I seen the buick drag bike run { or one like it } back in the 70s along with Evil Knevil and Art Arfons Cyclops II jet dragster . Evil jumped 7 times and the Cyclops crashed and flipped over the guard rail .
My first new job out of high school was at AMT in Troy Mich. as a apprentice draftsman. It was quite a process making those kits. People would be surprised.
It was their preference to hire the youngest possible people as they thought they were closer to the market. Most of their customers were around 14 years old. They were even hiring high school kids to do design work. Back then that was legal
@@ToyManTelevision When I was there in 1966 there was not any high school kids working there. All were adults except the apprentices. Even production workers were out of high school.
I must say first, the models are awesome ! I saw other people commenting about your seatbelts in your car. Not on!y do they look very annoying rubbing on your neck, but installed improperly. Please change them sooner than later : ) Where exactly was this show located? Thanks
Sheraton in Salt Lake City. We are looking into new seats. Something different. The original Shelby shoulder harnesses mounted there. Anyway looking into a fix. Of some kind.
The background music they used for this video is totally wrong, they should've used 50's &/or 60's style music! Other than that what an amazing fantastic group of models. Extremely talented group of model builders.
WOW! I have never seen anything like this. I am speechless on the detail. I was shocked when I saw my old Honda Intercepter! It didn't say if it was a 500, 750, or a 1000 but it brought back some great memories. I had a 500 and it was perfectly balanced. Whether cruzin' on the streets or hang'n off on the turns up Angeles Crest Hwy. it was fun. I miss it, but not trying to deal with traffic! Thanks guys!
That show is definitely on my bucket list. 2022 was supposed to be the very last GSLMCC, it's been pushed back to 2023 now. I hope I'm in a position to go then.
Just found the first video. You two are like peas and carrots you crack me up ! The music's good the coverage is excellent. Hands down the best GSL coverage PERIOD 🤗
Bonjour! 1/18 scale is huge here. We have several good cars in our collection. But mostly I buy them to use with my 1/20.3 scale trains. A bit large but close enough. And so much available!!!
Thanks for taking us on a tour--I haven't assembled a car or motorcycle model since my teens, but I still dig the scene, the art, and it is nice to see what's going on these days. And weathered is the word that describes those worn and faded finishes, and that can be a realistic look, for sure. Thanks again and the two of you are like what, the cutest couple on TH-cam? One of them, for sure.
Its a 67 GT 390 that was "Shelbyized" in about 1970 and raced. Engine was rebuilt into a sort of 428. Now with a Holley EFI. 5 years ago the poor think just fell apart. SO we have been restoring. And rolled it out at the Raat Fink Reunion a few weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/rUR_llGCsEo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks. Working on part two right now. Will be up a week from Sunday. I think. Or this Sunday if we don’t get the follow up is Steve’ rebuild finished in time for this Sunday.
Sir your wife is so COOL, it is so nice to see a couple so in tune with each other and on the "same page" I wish you 50 more years together. Good pick!
WOW. My favorite car had to be the Cadillac Low Rider, strictly to look at... beautiful. One question, though. You mentioned at the top of the video that the guy who put on these fabulous shows isn't going to do them anymore? Is anyone going to carry the torch?? These shows must continue, for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren. This is true art.
What? I had no idea that anything like this existed! Unbelievable. Is there a category for cars with working lights, doors, windows, and steering wheels?
Hi. Sort of. There is a show called NNL. Moves around but it has an east and west show. Often in the mid west. You can look for dates on www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/forum/12-contests-and-shows/ And the IPMS club and contests in every city and country. IPMS is from the UK but the US contest is amazing Not as good as GSL. But as big. But the quality of models at GSL is unique. And sadly coming to an end.
I can remember building model car's with the kid's in the neighborhood. Our local hobby store was D&M hobbys in Plymouth Minnesota and they would display our models in the front window... I'm 51 now and this gets my juices going again!!! I remember the other kids were amazed that my twin and I would make spark plug wires out of thread and make dents with a lighter and a nail.....ah good times
Another trick regarding painting spoons is to use clear spoons and paint on the inside (in the bowl). this way you do not need to clear it to see the a nice glossy finish.
Did not expect the rocking tunes when I started this video. Currently building a 69 nova kit, a 70 chevelle kit, and a 76 Chevy stepside that will be very custom.
Wonderful craftsmanship and absolutely beautiful models. Takes me back to my childhood except of course I never built like these. I've got nowhere near the talent it takes to build anything like these. Some observations, though, from the peanut gallery (I've got to look that up and see where the phrase came from!): The metal flake finishes for the most part were beautiful but didn't look right to me. The "scale" of the flakes was too large. There seemed to be a few that got it so it looked right to me but for the most part I guess if I get into trying this I'll avoid metal flake. The "glass" on many of these didn't look right to me either but I can't imagine how to fix it. There were small pits and other distortions that blown up to full size would be pretty troublesome. How to "fix" that? Maybe very fine abrasive and then polish? I might have to see for myself some time. The last thing was the way the seats looked on many. Just not quite right somehow. But I'm pretty certain that trying to get plastic to look like leather or fabric could be a specialty in itself. All that said, though, these models are amazing and the craftsmanship and level of detail is mind blowing. My observations weren't meant to downplay what these builders did. They've got models worth showing. I do not.
The metal flake paint jobs are really tricky. The key is to use paint that contains mica chips. Pearl paints. On a model it can look metallic if done right Bad window glass is a real trick. The best models come with really good plastic windows. I have vacuumed formed my own windows out of thin plastic but that’s a tricky thing to do and a lot of work. You sort of have to carve the shape of the windows from wood and then vacuum form very thin plastic over that and use that as windows. Now the seats are the easy one. It’s just a matter of getting a paint that looks just right. Well you can do like my friend Don and hand stitch actual leather seats! But I prefer to make plastic seats I just paint them to look like leather. It’s tricky but it’s really fun
@@ToyManTelevision It sounds like you've really got experience way beyond the range of most of us! Vacuforming your own glass, wow. And I did see that the models painted with pearl looked good. How did the hand stitching work? One of the typical things I've noticed is that fine lined (for lack of a better phrase 😏) items like windshield wipers and such tend to end up looking way too "thick". I'm wondering how to overcome that with seat stitching. All things considered though I'd guess if someone is interested enough to go to that length in order to make things look good, anything "clunky" wouldn't be used.
Most of them are very good models, but the others are incredible real. So much details, and perfect paint. I'm sure that most real cars have less perfect paint job.
You did mention this was coming-up. Big show. If memory serves, and it hardly does anymore, the last show did not seem as big. We are always blown away how far techniques have come since my day making models. Enjoyed this episode right down to the bolts. Greg and Jeanne.
Hi!!! After the edit I found out the super seven won best of show. And it’s100% scratch. Wasn’t sure. And the orange Harley won best paint and other master awards. Some great models, two more coming soon but those two walked away with it.

Almost. Dog from secret life of pets.

Almost as good as going to a real car show. Great video work.
Where or who do you go to . To get different size street tires for models. Like 20" or 22" wide and skinny tires a long with rim's or wheels.
Good question! But I’m just not sure... do you read Scale Auto Enthusiast? SAE. Good stuff but clubs and stuff in there as well. Good luck. 👍

Below is the info that was found online;
After countless requests, the Kats at AMT have dug deep in the tooling vault to uncover the most unique drag truck to ever speed down the quarter mile! Ok love the video I was wondering if u noticed on the caddy lowe rider. It was right hand drive. U didn't mention it. I thought that was a cool touch.
The detail! These folks are real artists! As you said, hard to tell some of them from the real thing!
Yup even the price!
Hello from Australia.
Great stuff guys, really nicely done. I built model cars in my youth but they were never this good. I love your enthusiasm, it's brilliant!
Nice video . loads of detail's.
Amazing craftsmanship. Love it.
THe Super 7 is sooooooo amazing. Found out later it won Best of Show. 100% scratch. Even tires
Great photography
iPhones mostly. Great camera!
I love these they're so much fun and just amazing. What a treat to see the work of so many builders with staggering amounts of skill and talent.
Next week. Race cars! And some other leftovers
Here is a link to Simpson installation instructions.
simpsonraceproducts.com/pdf/inst/Seat_Belt_Mounting.pdf
all other brands are the same, I believe I have installed all of them and passed tech as well.

We just bought a Russian model car. A GAZ. The model weighs 40 pounds! Wow!
You're the most fun guys on TH-cam. I'm now about to get back into my childhood hobby. Thanks guys.
Thanks!!! Do have fun with it!!!
UNREAL, STUNNING PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right? One more contest. Then I guess it’s over… sad.
Thanks for sharing was fun 😊😊😊
One more Sunday
The "square bird" was the 58-60 models. This is 61-63.
Yup. Didn’t know the 61 wasn’t. Lots of comments.
Great video, beautiful rides. The "Square Bird " was 2nd generation bird, 1st 4 passenger body. They are beautiful.
'61-'63 were bullet birds.
Great video felt like I was there at the show with you! Sure hope chad smith won something his name was on quite a few cars.
Amazing diecast models.Thanks.
I seen the buick drag bike run { or one like it } back in the 70s along with Evil Knevil and Art Arfons Cyclops II jet dragster . Evil jumped 7 times and the Cyclops crashed and flipped over the guard rail .
Great times back then. Competitive. Fun.
Please change them sooner than later : )
Where exactly was this show located?
Thanks
Sheraton in Salt Lake City. We are looking into new seats. Something different. The original Shelby shoulder harnesses mounted there. Anyway looking into a fix. Of some kind.
sir can we buy this kind ofmodels by coming to the show ???
You and your wife are a joy to listen to, your enthusiasm is wonderful.😳
Fantastic event! And absolutely amazing pieces! Thank you for the video.
Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas you are soooo welcome! Tell your friends!
Crazy!! Thanks for sharing!! :)
One more Sunday. And I’m showing my Lotus project Tuesday
@@ToyManTelevision I look foward to watch it if you share a video of it! Cheers, buddy!! :)
Great Sunday video. Still like watching the your 500 GT. Do you have frequent conversations with police officers? Just curious.
Sort of. The #9 car has had more conversations with the constabulary. Pulled over at 130 once. Long story.
Amazing cars and details.Great job!
Wow, just amazing, thanks for the upload.
This is soooo amazing. One more in 3 years. Then over. But I’m betting something will fill the void.
The background music they used for this video is totally wrong, they should've used 50's &/or 60's style music!
Other than that what an amazing fantastic group of models. Extremely talented group of model builders.
Well some is 60s.
How can l show a picture of my latest scratch built project. ?
That one on the vid is 750. What a machine. And what a model!!!!! But the Harley won the class. Mostly scratch. As were most of the bikes.
That show is definitely on my bucket list. 2022 was supposed to be the very last GSLMCC, it's been pushed back to 2023 now. I hope I'm in a position to go then.
I had not heard it was pushed back. I am glad to hear that!
Just found the first video. You two are like peas and carrots you crack me up ! The music's good the coverage is excellent. Hands down the best GSL coverage PERIOD 🤗
Thanks!!!!! More Sunday
Bonjour je recherche un Magasin qui se trouve USA qui vend des Truck Poids-lourd à l'échelle 1/18 ?
Bonjour! 1/18 scale is huge here. We have several good cars in our collection. But mostly I buy them to use with my 1/20.3 scale trains. A bit large but close enough. And so much available!!!
May I ask what camera you used to take the closeup photographs of the models? Thank you.
On this show the stills are from our iPhones. The video lumix GH2.
Thanks!!!!!!! We set out to have fun. So far so good. More screwing around coming up.
What kind of mustang do y'all drive?
Great video BTW
Its a 67 GT 390 that was "Shelbyized" in about 1970 and raced. Engine was rebuilt into a sort of 428. Now with a Holley EFI. 5 years ago the poor think just fell apart. SO we have been restoring. And rolled it out at the Raat Fink Reunion a few weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/rUR_llGCsEo/w-d-xo.html
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks 🙏
Dale, so very well done -- great video shots, wonderful commentary from both of you and nice music. Really well done. Thanks!! - Dean from Minnesota
Good pick!
Thanks 🙏
The car you showed in the Street Machine class the Woody Surf Wagon was built by my friend Terry Jesse!!! How cool
Last one pushed back now to 2023 as I understand it.
Wow! That's incredible! Amazing models! are any of them shows coming to the chicago area? I for sure would like to attend!😎👍
Hi. Sort of. There is a show called NNL. Moves around but it has an east and west show. Often in the mid west. You can look for dates on www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/forum/12-contests-and-shows/
And the IPMS club and contests in every city and country. IPMS is from the UK but the US contest is amazing
Not as good as GSL. But as big. But the quality of models at GSL is unique. And sadly coming to an end.
@@ToyManTelevision thank you😎👍
Great show and great video. But the Woody does come in a kit almost exactly like that one.
Thank you for the video it was a amazing show
You are welcome! What a contest
The motorcycles look so real up close, loved the Mach 1 too.
Hard to pick one right? Glad I’m not a judge!
Bag and build one!!!! It’s even better at 51!
Another trick regarding painting spoons is to use clear spoons and paint on the inside (in the bowl). this way you do not need to clear it to see the a nice glossy finish.
Cool idea.
Did not expect the rocking tunes when I started this video. Currently building a 69 nova kit, a 70 chevelle kit, and a 76 Chevy stepside that will be very custom.
That Sr is not a square Bird . It's a 61 - 63 round bird . Square Bird was from 1964 and up .
Yup. Oops.
Ehat is the name of that car at 17:06 ?
Wonderful craftsmanship and absolutely beautiful models. Takes me back to my childhood except of course I never built like these. I've got nowhere near the talent it takes to build anything like these. Some observations, though, from the peanut gallery (I've got to look that up and see where the phrase came from!):
The metal flake finishes for the most part were beautiful but didn't look right to me.
The paint takes the cake. And pie. And ice cream. Every car perfect paint. And flames and lettering. All with brush and air brush.
Very good....good jab....
What a contest! Check out part 2 and 3.
I bought a Corgi-Batmobile w/ Batman/Robin in “66, I was 12. I came w the Gold Wheels. Always keeper in the box. One of my prized toys, any idea of it?
Wow! Hard to say. Look on eBay. Not sure if they are around but I’ll bet it’s super collectible! Cool toy!! Wow!!
Orange Harley "perfect", except for the miss matched rear sprocket and chain. At 25:40.
Is that Rooster from the Secret Life Of Pets 2? Looks like he's just taking a ride 😆😆👍👍
Woof!!!! Yup
Thanks For all . Big up from France 👍👍
I lived there in 72. Paris. Going to school. We really want to get there. I want to revisit my favorite spots. And show Karyn where I went to school
Fools gold and that gulf piece were my top 2! So far!
That super 7. In gulf colors.... amazing
7:08 what song is this?
It’s library music I buy from Smartsound and then recut and remix. Really fun. Not sure who laid the original tracks.
