I used to build model cars from car kits when I was a teen..and even a shaker trike.... They were fun! But... This is more than just building a model car! The detail in these models defy description! Honestly... It looks as though shrink juice was applied to a full-size car, from a car show, and labeled as a model...... They are THAT good!! Great Job GSL!!! :D
I was looking forward to this episode. I am not disappointed. Great video. I can't imaging the amount of work that goes into models of that caliber. Beautiful work.
These models are amazing art pieces!!! The detail is fantastic and the paint on these is unbelievable!! I've built some models in the past when I was a kid and they didn't look like these.... JEFF
WOW! Those models are so perfect and you two do a awesome job at narrating the show but I would like to hear and see you get in and interview each builder and spend a little more time showing the models up close and tell a bit more about them. Great job!
I didnt think I'd be very interested in this subject. But you and Karin did an excellent job in presenting it and the models were absolutely incredible. Toy Man Television is a Sunday morning "must" in my home. Thanks again for another GREAT episode! Can't wait for the Wyoming Steam Train Shop visiit!
Thanks right back! Do share with your friends! We have a ball doing this, and really like to see it getting out there, especially when people half way round the world watch!! It's like WOW!!!
What an amazing event, inspiring enough to make one want to head down to the hobby store and pickup a kit or two ! i built many drag models back in the day so this was awesome to watch, another fantastic episode of TMT much obliged and a big Thanks you two Cheers !
We need more time to build! I have like 4 car projects swimming around in my poor head. One has spilled over onto the bench. Now if we could just break away from all this screwing around... NAW.
I feel like an underachiever after watching this show. This is why I took up photography for a hobby, I suck at this sort of thing except for a model kit. These people are amazing, and I agree with you Karyn, it looks like they somehow shrank full size vehicles. Thanks again.
Bat Fink has a long and lustrous history.. He is very special for the two of us.. Oh! The places he traveled over 20 years, then showing up mysteriously one day... So glad he is "home"! :)
Intense "screwing around". As old Emeril would say, "Kicked this up notches un-heard of!" Have always admired that guy that could make a kit model and put so much work into it you want to own it. This coming from a guy that would get the glue on his fingers and, you know the story. The next thing you know it is spray painted all one color, windows and all. Much worse these days now with a numb left hand and loosing sensation on two of my fingers on my right. Tremors make for a fun target, these days. Seriously, a well done episode. The level of detail is beyond imagination. Karyn is really doing a great job. You two are a kick to watch and listen to. I watched this episode on the big screen, downstairs from our ROKU and your filming/video is outstanding. Greg and Jeanne
These are some great modelers... they sure have my respect! I'm ready to begin assembling my long awaited plastic '59 Impala! Testers paint and glue.. My big sticky fingers... and we may just have a thing! Look out Earl Scheib!!
GOOD MORNING!! zWhat a fun show. Somehow it always lands on top of SO many things we want (need) to get done. Be so nice to just go there and hang out. This year we are gearing up for two road trips to chase STEAM! and "restoring" a duplex we have where some Meth Heads were "living". Took months to get them out, now we are tearing out carpet and filling a huge dumpster with junk. (furniture?) IF you now anyone there is the life sciences we have a frige with some unknown life forms in it. ANYWAY GOOD MORNING YOU TWO!!
Property; who needs it? Don't forget the "haz-mat" suits and self contained breathing apparatus. Carry on with your adventures can't wait to see what you find. Greg and Jeanne
This year's GSL was fun! Can't wait to start working on my plastic model... the first attempt since 1994.... and it will be a 59 Impala... Sort of a practice car! It might look as good as the red Earl Scheib Corvair!!
First off, thank you for such a nice video, I spent most of my childhood, and part of my adulthood, building models, and progressed into a really seasoned builder, that being said ,I have to point out that the model of the 1958 Thunderbird, had a 59 Grill in it ,I know that because my dad had a 59 Thunderbird, which had the straight bar grill, so I’m thinking that the builder make that from scratch..
You didn't mention on the first rat truck/car, so I wonder if you noticed it. On the seat is what looked like a tool box from Binford tools which is a nod to Tim Allen's Tool Time. Everything was fantastic, thanks again for sharing
my uncle used to scratch build the most detailed basically anything but his best were heavy equipment and model homes. he made them from vynil records and sold quite a few to dealerships and homebuilders in the Louisville / Ohio Valley area. Wish I had at least some pics. damn. these models by the way are crazy with the attention to detail.
Toy Man Television yes sir. I thought so too and wondered why? I guess they were the cheapest round the house material he could find back in the probably early seventies when he really got into it. and he had tons of old records. to this day he'll just give me a box of them to look through from time to time. of course you couldn't tell they were records when he was done. one I really remember was a three foot long crane that he made remote also. Was just one of those things you were like how'd he do that but came natural to him. he has to have some left and some pics. I'll get ahold of something. thanks for responding and thanks for ya'lls videos. some really unique talent or as i see it art!
Have a question. I really like seeing all the shows and what people build. I just found this GSL show, I also found that the one in 2022 is the last or scheduled for the last. DO YOU SIR HAVE ANY NEWS ON THIS? I as well as many others will miss this.- the BEST OF THE BEST. I know your video is from 2017, 3 years ago, maybe by chance you will see and have a answer. Thank You Be SAFE
Hi. Yes you’re right this is supposed to be the last one coming up. It wouldn’t surprise me if Barlow Juan of those guys picks it up and runs it but they can only do it if Mark gifts than his blessing and I don’t know that he would be willing to do that. Probably this next one will in fact be the last. Sad but it’s been a good run.
Great video. Those are some really great models. A lot of them have been featured in scale auto. You guys got some good shots and commentary on them. Keep up the great work.
U didnt got it right at 7:19. Thats brilliant: Thats a scale version of the coverings a body shop would apply for repainting your car. Even the wrap tape is scaled! that thing is great!
Love the model cars. On the Heber Creeper show I said this. Louis Gurske6 days ago Thank you so much. You brought back so much memory's for me and my wife Marie. Like you it will always be the Heber Creeper to us. We road it in 1974. At that time it had an old rail yard, station, old rail cars and out buildings. I filmed the Heber Creeper on 16 MM film. At that time they had a Shay that they I be leave ran on there line to. The film has been put away for years. I will look for it and have it put into a CD. I will then try to get a copy to you. I hope this will work out for you. It should bring back many memories for us and you. Lou P.S. how far back did you ride the Heber.
Hi and WOW. Not sure when I first rode it.. I remember pulling the 618 out of the fair grounds and taking it to Heber. That was the start of the whole thing. Then a guy, Edwards, brought in his locomotives and the Sons of Utah Pioneers added their locomotives. I think Edwards owned the Shay, but it's all a fog bank in my brain. He had a bunch of locos, mostly up at Heber, but I think he had 2 in Ogden. And I know he had one in Salt Lake as I tried to buy it. It's now in the Bay Area and running! Little 0-6-0 switcher. Anyway, they were running out of the original Heber Depot. LAter a guy bought the whole deal, Ashton, and he built the western town as I recall. The other depot was there, but as now, not being used. It came in with the Sons of Pioneers locos from Corine. ANYWAY, great old line, glad to see it still running, and someday, the 618 will be running again!!
A little info on Chameleon paint from a retired auto-body owner and car builder. The paint was designed in Santa Rosa, Calif. by a company called Optical Coatings. They originally designed it for use in our paper currency for non-duplication purposes contracted by our govt. DuPont bought the rights for the coating only and turned it into a custom paint called Chromalusion. It was very, very expensive and came in just a few colors. All colors had predominantly a base, or theme color until it was viewed at a different angle. It was short lived on the show circuit because it lacked originality and was just "unique" It also always showed a "dirty" reddish-gold sidecars in all colors. Also, Ed Roth was known for the character "Rat Fink" and he never started the rat rod culture. That was born out of a different culture that no longer wanted to spend a gazillion dollars on show cars. It was a thumb to the nose against "trailer Queens" that then morphed into into a love for rust and all manner of weird aged stuff. 'Kind of like Rock n' Roll turned into Rap.
I remember seeing some very interesting “cars” painted with that chameleon paint. They were touring around in art museums. Sort of open framework non-functioning cars that were really a form of sculpture. They were really neat and that was the first time I saw the use of that paint and it was fascinating. Ed wants explain to me how we came up with the whole rat Fink idea in a weird sort of way it is similar to rat rods but now they have no relationship to each other other than the fact that the rat Fink reunion attracts tons of rat rods. Anyway Ed was at a car show and somebody was being a pain in the butt and so he drew a caricaturyof that person with their car as a hairy creature with giant eyeballs just to piss him off, and well everyone loved it and it became his signature look.
docredline he was unique. Told me he put millions up his nose. Lost everything. Even his cars and awards. Then he became a Mormon. And started over. That’s when I met him. Boy what a story. But he told kids the dangers of drugs. Made it a big part of his life.
THIS IS THE FIRST VIDEO OF YOURS IVE WATCHED ITS ABSOLUTEY BRILLIANT MY FAVOURITES ARE RAT RODS COUL YOU DO SOME RAT ROD VIDEOS PLEASE I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING MORE OF VIDEOS MY FAVOURITE ONE HAS GOT TO BE THE DRAG BIKE
Hello We do have some fun together.. Fun how we came together. Same interests. Mostly. But what a gift to come together late in life to go and screw around all over the world!!
Although my interest in models and miniatures is focused predominantly on trains cars and automotive models do hold an interest for me. I used to have a 1/25 scale model of the W&A "General" (which was sadly damaged beyond repair in a move) and I've always wanted to get a model of an early car in the same scale to pair with it. (Not to mention a new model of the General) That was a pretty cool show and has gotten the gears in my head turning with an old concept I have, a steampunk Semi-Truck. I drew it out on paper once, but could certainly use an update! I would have to wonder how it would fair in a model show like the one here. With all that said, words cannot describe how eager I am to see next week's episode! I've had a budding interest in the Uintah and I am VERY eager to learn and see more about it. Keep up the awesome stuff, Toy Man!!
Great modeling is always a joy to see. Have you seen the show on the ship models? The ones made 200 years ago from chicken bones by prisoners of war BLOW MY MIND. Tiny, and detailed beyond belief, and made from left over bones with no tools!! Modeling is an amazing art form. And while I doubt I'd find a model of a washing machine interesting, who knows?
You know... I just have such a high respect for anyone who puts their heart and soul into their passion.. be it a model railroad, or cars... Even people who do needle point, or crochet.. paint and restore dolls... any hobby. Every time we interview someone who has something they have created... Why, the energy, and great feelings really tell the tale! I love it!!
Thanks so much, for the close ups of the models and your presentation of this show. Speaking of shows and models, will you be attending a Hot Wheels Convention?
Dale, you make mention that the term "rat rod" is an homage to Ed Roth's Rat Fink. You may be a little confused here, it's my understanding that the term "rat rod" is from guys who would show up at car shows with cars that had primer or 4 different mag wheels or exposed bondo, and or rust holes or all of the above and then some. Sort of a term for a "work in progress" or "ratty-rod" The kind of car that instead of having a lowering kit, they just heated the springs with a torch until the car dropped, same guys who used silver paint instead of chrome, you get the idea. You are correct in your statement that Ed Roth never built, (or would have been caught dead) building a "rat rod".
The "junkyard dog" cars do have connection to Rat Fink, just not Ed. And only after the fact I think. BUt the "Rat Rod" being the product of a fast "build" from junkyard parts does invoke the idea that Rat Fink lives in a junk yard and spends his days cobbling together hot rods from junk. Many Rat Rods do have Rat Fink painted on, and even Rat Fink names, like my favorite L.A.B. Rat, with a rat fink logo. So the connection is there, but unintended, and as I say, after the fact. In this case the chicken came before the egg.
No confusion... If you attend the Rat Fink Reunion, there will be an entire section of Rat Rods.. all devoted to Rat Fink himself.. Rat Fink, but not necessarily Ed Roth himself.. Yet there is a connection. Rat Fink lives in his own world..Perhaps just a bit "anti-establishment". He makes "do" with the things he has.. He is an artist and an inventor. He isn't worried about the external world around him.. He stays busy by creating... which is anything that involves getting him from point A to point B... and usually as F-A-S-T as possible. He is at home in a junk yard, where he has access to all of these parts, when assembled just right... Why.. Anything goes!! Rat Fink, himself, is a work in progress... as is all of his modes of transportation. He grew up with the same values as Wile E. Coyote.. But the Roadrunner Mr. Fink wanted, had 4 wheels.. and Mr. Fink had no money.. So he had to improvise.. You know.. Make do.. or do without. There is a little bit of Rat Fink in all of us, from time to time. For me... The Rat Rod is paying homage to the spirit of Rat Fink! :D
There is a good kit for very little money out now from China or ?? Got one. Great kit but not as good as this one!!! But take a look. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142473695647
Thank you for the reply, the ebay ones are plastic...the Raleigh model one was metal, I can tell the detail is amazing. It looks just like the real road bike, since i'm an avid cyclist. It looks like they stop making the metal model anymore =(.
Hey toy man I have an idea, in Duluth, MN there is a newly restored steam locomotive around June they will be doing rides, so if you decide to every go on an adventure head up to Minnesota for a while!
Cool awesome model show truck semi rig the real show trucks aren't that cheap I've seen one at Kenly NC at the I95 Petro truck stop it was a Peterbuilt 379 stretched out with an 359 sleeper stainless steel refrigerated 48 ft trailer the driver and owner custom built an apartment in the trailer I think he's retired and drives it from truck show to truck show us professional truckers love our trucks LOL the moving trucks have full beds showers kitchenettes washer and dryer that's why the sleepers are Soo huge on them.
What a model!!! Can't believe it's stainless steel!! Thats HARD to work with, I would think that plated brass would be better, but heck!!!! The proof is right there!!!!
I saw a paint job where they painted over a bird $h1t. Didn't ever wash off the car. HOWEVER, I also saw a few great paint jobs from Earl's shop. IF you did your own prep, bought your own quality paint, and just had them shoot it, they could and would do a great job!
I am trying to get my cars to this level but they are still not quite there yet. I do a good job of weathering, but that paint they do is beyond my skills!
Just to clue in the peepers. John Teresi built the stagecoach wheelstander and the phonebooth rod. He is a contemporary of mine and I wanted to shine a light on him. A great builder and all around nice guy. i suggest visiting modelcarsmag.com to see what me and my friends are up to. if you dig craftsmanship then this is the place to be. Sift through the forum to see amateur all the way to fine craftsmanship. It's fun and we all get along as we build plastic fantastics and urge each other on to greater heights.
The drag bike based on Larry "Spiderman" McBride. It ran deep into the 5's at over 240+mph. Also the wheelstanders at the drag races are still around. Ed "The Outlaw" Jones was just at RMR in Salt Lake last weekend. Great show Dale and Karyn! th-cam.com/video/npNkwVw-V5I/w-d-xo.html
Where is the next show going to be ? I was watching your video of the show and you kept commenting on trucks and cars and the like being scratch built...I was clearly seeing parts from diffrent kits put together and things like hoses and clamps...to me they are not scratch built.Scratch built means to me entirely made from scratch.I have a 70 1/2 split bumper camaro scratch built from entirely from paper. There are only 2 things on the car not paper...the leds for the tag, tail; headlights, under the front fenders, dash gauges and headlights which work off a remote and the glass. It has throttle linkage from the butterflys on the blower to the gas pedal which open from pushing the gas pedal down.I would like to put my car out there to see how it would fare.If not from my complete documentation of the build people do not believe the car is made from paper down to studs...lug nuts valve stems and the tread on the tires.
Been pushed back for a year because of Covid. Was going to be June of 2022. Now May of 2023. Salt Lake City Utah. The winning cars are often scratch. Or mostly so. The truck in this years show was mostly scratch built. The last two years winners or three years? All but tires. The USAC racer from 2010? Not sure. We have shows on those. Anyway that car is 100% scratch built including the tires
Очередной раз убеждаюсь в том какой скупой и примитивный английский язык... если закрыть глаза, то можно представить что такими же фразами можно озвучить любое секс видео США

Wow! Absolutely amazing! I never knew people were this good at modeling.
Great show, wow! The level of scratch building on these models is out of this world. Hats off to all of the contestants.

A great show. Mind blowing work. Hate to be a judge for this type of competition.
Really!! Ive see them go all night too. Bit of yelling.. BUt they figure it out somehow.
Sheesh! Isn't that the truth!! :D
I agree with Dale: I would not want to be a judge! Every one would be best of show!
There were about 10 that I just could not separate. And that's with no Russian influence. BUT what a great problem to have!
All were, as "they" say, "Spot on."
Truly top notch car modelling, just jaw dropping for sure. Thanks for sharing.
It's one of, if not the, best in the world. What a show!!
Thank you very much. So many great models.
Gotta love models!!!! These are way beyond cool.
Yes, being an ex modeler I really appreciate the skill that's gone into each and every vehicle. I had to stop when I had a brain hemorrhage.
GREAT SHOW REALLY ENJOYED IT ,,THANK'S
its a great car show!!
From jimmiesteve ' ALL THESE ARE JUST AUSOME BUILDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
been a modeler most of my life, grandfather was a modeler... one thing I did NOT inherit..... STEADY HANDS!!!!..... modeling is a challenge for me.
There was a time... But these days the old hands shake a bit.
Oh Man , that drag bike was sick ! Awesome details .
If I had to pick a winner I'd still be there.
To me the drag bike should it be the winner but the semi truck was a incredible build to.
Tio JDM 1043 Yeah , I totally agree they both were pretty cool .
They're both so good. Like picking between Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Glad I didn't have to...
How do they put so much detail into these? Not even the manufactures put this much detail into their kits! Amazing!!
Right? One more show next year.
@@ToyManTelevision Would love to visit but I'm in the UK. I've recently got back into this hobby. I might create another channel and show my builds!
All I can say is " wow". Will check out the gsl channel

This was a great event! These models look just like the full-size version... only very small! Hey, Hunny? I just shrunk the T-Bird!! Amazing!!
Fun video...thank you!

@@ToyManTelevision I met Ed years ago before he became famous. I have to say....he was a character for sure, but also was very nice.
docredline he was unique. Told me he put millions up his nose. Lost everything. Even his cars and awards. Then he became a Mormon. And started over. That’s when I met him. Boy what a story. But he told kids the dangers of drugs. Made it a big part of his life.
thanks for making this nice video!!!!
Fun show!! Want to get back to one of my car models. SO many projects.

Cool to see my Auto Union DKW at 7:43 and Mercedes G4 at 7:50.
You guys are cool!
Thanks!!! This time of year we should be cold, but it's almost warm.... COOL.
sent this to my girlfriend just based on the wonderful dynamic you two have with each other
Hello We do have some fun together.. Fun how we came together. Same interests. Mostly. But what a gift to come together late in life to go and screw around all over the world!!
Amazing!
Does anybody know when there will be a plastic model sale or show in North Carolina? Preferably around Raleigh, NC
Check scale auto enthusiast website and magazine. Maybe info on coming contests. Also IPMS has contests all over. Check their web for a local group
Way cool guys!
Love this show. Need to build a car again sometime
Sure different from model train building... Or not.... So much talent out there!! :D
Didn't know they have those... BUT GEE. SIGN US UP! Do you have any info?
I actually collect Hot Wheels!!
Ed jones still runs the stage coach wheel stander
Cool! Some great ones are at gilpen ford in Van Nuys California
this video should be an ad for whatever mic they were using in the beginning shot
I love it! Cost $30. Works great to a phone or camera.
Fantastic wow
Great models!!
Indeed!! :D
Where can I buy the bike @7:35 please.
Looking. Can’t find one on eBay. I think they built it from a Schwinn 10 speed 1/10 scale by MPC.
There are a bunch of 1:10 scale bicycles made. Most are crap. But some are amazing!!!!
WOW, that would be fun! Hum....
AWESOME!!!!! Keep up the good work.
Scratch building is an art form. Just amazing.
That is crazy.
Right?? What cars!!!!!!
Drag bike was best in show .
Right? But hard to pick just one.
The model cars were nice. But truth be told, I do enjoy your train videos more so.
Right, most here do. These are some amazing autos though...
I get so..... Excited?!! I want to go home and try a few of these hobbies myself!! :D We may need a bigger garage! :D
Too cool
Fun right?????
Flashback....I will paint any car any color.....
I saw a paint job where they painted over a bird $h1t. Didn't ever wash off the car. HOWEVER, I also saw a few great paint jobs from Earl's shop. IF you did your own prep, bought your own quality paint, and just had them shoot it, they could and would do a great job!
OH, BOY!!!!! :O
I had to turn off the audio.
I am trying to get my cars to this level but they are still not quite there yet. I do a good job of weathering, but that paint they do is beyond my skills!
AMAZING right???? Geeeeezzzzz. I would if I could.
I remember earl shives 2995 paint jobs in the 70s
It’s “Schieb” ......but ya 👍
Think that army truck was a Ford WOT 3...
On our memories
would you look at that
Fun show right??
just look at it!
Wow
Ola it is the paint and vlams are make by airbrush paint grt from holland Ninja Jedi Master
I'm researching a corvair for school
The drag bike based on Larry "Spiderman" McBride. It ran deep into the 5's at over 240+mph. Also the wheelstanders at the drag races are still around. Ed "The Outlaw" Jones was just at RMR in Salt Lake last weekend. Great show Dale and Karyn!

Amazing competition! One more sadly. But one at least.
It's not "chameleon paint"
It's pearl.
Yup.... Once we got a good look at it, if a fade job.

Love a good hobby shop!!!!! Several great ones here too.
Where have i ended up?! Jesus Christ
He's down the hall and on the right. 2nd door. Knock before entering. He sleeps in. Not before 11
Where is the next show going to be ?
I made a butiful truck
Is it posted somewhere?
Model car shows, for men that have never had sex with a woman.
You talk like you are a expert but you never show any of your own work just like most TH-cam guys can talk it but can't do it
Очередной раз убеждаюсь в том какой скупой и примитивный английский язык... если закрыть глаза, то можно представить что такими же фразами можно озвучить любое секс видео США
Dam i need to come i build way better models than any of yall in i hand build engins in make them run on gasoline
Sadly mark is stopping the contest. 2 more. This spring and again in 2 years. Then done.
