They brought us into interrogation rooms, and tore everything out of my Subaru and left it all in a pile on the ground for us to put back in. I'm glad that Not a Wheelchair came to the rescue and the chairs will make it to Bruce. The joys of dealing with our Northern neighbors were stated in their remark about it being your problem if you ran into a difficult agent, not theirs. We used to go into Canada at least twice a year for many, many years, and more than once we've ran into someone that wanted to play the heavy and made entry a total pain in the butt - for no real reason at all other than they could. Sad but true fact - you are entering THEIR country, and it's THEIR discretion on you being allowed entry. Just glad you can put this behind you as one of those moments!

I've told this story before: When I was in graduate school, a few years before 9/11 (no passports required), I drove charter motor coach in Ohio to help pay the bills (even students have to eat). On one of my training rides, it was just me and the trainer who drove from Columbus, Ohio to Windsor, ON (Canada). Since Windsor had casinos, we had a lot of trips through the Detroit/Windsor crossing. So we crossed the Ambassador bridge into Canada, and they asked the two questions: did you stop at the duty free shop? Do you have any firearms on board? Of course no. We spun around to one of the boarder casinos, drove through the parking lot, then headed back over the bridge back into Detroit, MI. The *U.S.* border agent was board out of his gourd! There were only 3 of 8 crossing gates open. He stepped onto my coach and he shot the sh*t with the two of us for 45 minutes, while I, sitting in the driver's seat, on the log clock, watched in my mirrors all of the U.S. bound traffic back up all the way over the top of the bridge. He finally released us when he realized it was time for his lunch break. Just remember, when crossing any international border, the agents are gods! (Fun fact, Windsor, ON is south of Detroit, MI.)

Many years ago i was bringing in a laod of furniture into the US from Canada to a freight forwarder. I had 6 different bills of lading since it was being delivered to six different places. The agent took 1 item from each bill and said he wanted to see them individually to see a Made In Canada stamp on each. I explained to the officer that it took 4 guys about 4 hours to load the trailer and I would be awhile. It was about 85' outsde and pretty 100' inside the trailer. Some of the pieces where massive and heavy. Buy lunch time I had found two of thethem and he said he would be back after lunch. A other officer came up to me and asked me how I was doing and I told i had found 2 pieces. He said lets see them and I opened the boxes up and showed him and he said get out of her before the other officer came back. This was my first load to the US and never had a problem for 40 years after that.

Funny story… I have traveled all over the world to 30+ countries for both work and vacations and the only country that I ever had an issue entering was Cananda. I was traveling for work and I made the mistake of telling the boarder agent in Toronto that I was going to “teach” a class instead of just “attending” a meeting… Four hours later, after waiting in the immigration line from hell, I was able to discuss the issue with another agent who was able to look up in the massive NAFTA book what classification of work I was performing, I was granted a one-year work visa stapled into my passport and was allowed to enter the country. I did have a minor issue leaving China once but that was because the China Travel Service forgot to account for a layover in Shanghai on my return trip from Hong Kong to the States. But that just meant that I had to be escorted from my arrival gate to my departure gate by the officials.

I traveled a bit internationally a bit after school. Went through 5-6 countries in europe with my passport. Needed it as a form of id to update my state drivers license...
state dmv told me my passport was an illegal document because it used my nickname, not my birth name.
Well, i just filled out the forms and realized the government _offered you that option_ at the time and used it. The rules changed 2 years later. My nickname passport was valid as issued, but was no longer be allowed *on new passports.*
DMV was trying to hold me to a standard that didn't exist when my 'illegal document' was issued.

I must’ve watched 99.9% of your video’s, so never presumed you were unprepared or stupid. And understandably the individual officer needs room for discretion. But the apparent lack of a framework (for the citizen) when you come with all this paperwork, is baffling. You’re basically at the mercy of an officer who knows nothing about wheelchairs and their use. That’s too bad.
On the upside: there are people who want to make good things happen!

I really like Casey and he does think fairly well, but overlooked a few things: He didn't sign his passport thus making it invalid. He tried to enter another country with an unregistered trailer, as a commercial driver he should know to not do that. Also he claimed they were e-bicycles although my guess is because they don't have pedals, they are classified as something totally different. Then he tired at a different border crossing which they might consider fraud.

The one fire station belongs to the air force bombing range somewhere away from the freeway and will only go to car fires if they are not busy with air force stuff.

While talking to them about what is needed in order to get them into Canada. I would have told them "Why tell me what is needed in order to cross the boarder if a boarder agent can pull any reason they want out of his rear end" That's the clean version though as this is posted in youtube comments. But I would have worded it far more harsh what are they doing to do arrest me for hurting their feelings. lol I flat out hate when a company or entity has a set of guidelines/rules they claim to have. But they don't use them and just allows their people to do what they want for the most part.

I travel internationally on a nearly constant basis, and I can tell you that all the preparation in the world is gonna fall short if you bump into the wrong guy who is having a bad day or just mis-interpreting the situation. And there is no one more petty than a petty official, the moment you try to explain where he is wrong you're done. So no judgements or second guesses here, just compliment for keeping your cool and managing to get it done in the end.

    • @pcspecialistpdx
      @pcspecialistpdx หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Oh, that's only part of the story.
The government shoots you in the leg, denies you access to private healthcare (Canada), puts you on a waiting list for x-rays, and after you get the x-rays, the government surgeon who ordered them can't get you in for months. When the surgeon can see you, too much time has passed since the x-rays were taken so he needs new x-rays...
By the time the surgeon can do surgery, he has to break the bone that healed improperly and can no longer do a repair that has a 100% recovery...
You get put on a waitlist for a wheelchair because the annual wheelchair budget was all used up so the government can't order any until next year...
In hindsight, you realize you could have gone to a veterinarian (private) to get the x-rays and you wouldn't be crippled for life.
      Oh, Canada!
