Hay Nigel, I have recently completed your 30 practice challenge and have continued with it, yesterday I have for the first time been able to play the chromatic scale from low B flats to high F. For me as a beginner it’s a personal achievement.
After seeing this video it gave me an idea. I put together a practice plan. Practice Session Warmup with Long Tones _______ minutes Scale/Key practice, C,G,F,D,Bb,Eb,A ______ minutes Reading improvement speed and accuracy _____ minutes Work on Troubled Note Transitions _______ minutes Work on tonguing , not tonguing phrases _____ minutes Continue to play actual pieces a few measures at a time ______ minutes
Thanks soo much for great advice Sir. Was wondering do you ever use any sort of teeth guard for your bottom teeth when playing the sax for a long time? I find my bottom lip pains me after a while.
Hi Dave. Great question. I have never used a guard for my teeth when playing saxophone - my best advice is to take a break if your bottom lip is getting too sore. This can be a sign of using too much bite pressure when you’re playing, or just over practice.
So on the website Kessler and Sons, I found a performance ready Keilwerth Shadow used for $4000. Is it worth trying to convince my parents to get? I've heard Keilwerth is an incredible brand
McGill Music Sax School Well their site has incredible financing options which make it cheaper in the short term. And I've heard stories of the world-renowned sound of a Keilwerth. They have other options I've looked at too, but I love everything I've heard of the Keilwerths
Hey Nigel, I am an 8th grader and I have been playing tenor at my middle school for about 2 1/2 years. I practice pretty often, but I have a major problem with my tone being fuzzy. Do you have any tips for me?
Great question. I’d suggest experimenting with your reed size - perhaps try a slightly harder reed to see if that helps. Sound issues are generally caused by either your mouthpiece / reed setup or your embouchure so if the reed doesn’t sort it out, try using a bit less mouthpiece to see if that’s the cause. Hope that helps you.

Great idea. Having a structure is really important. Go for it.

It’s a good horn, but for that money you have lots of choices. Happy choosing!
