When restoring items with family connections, I like to just return the tool to it's original working state. It the tool was a favorite of those who have passed, I would never make such a radical change to it. It would just not sit well with me. I could just do a a radical restore job from an old axe I get for a garage sale and such. All that said, that is a beautiful modern design of an axe. Well done.

The epoxy used to bind the wood and metal in the axe handle is stronger than the natural resin in the wood. Plus, the sandwiched metal which runs through the length of the handle assures its strength. So, that restored axe will outlive its restorer, even if he uses it regularly and then pass it on to his own grand children.
Оно то конечно так, но именно в данном случае проблема не монолитности (можно долго спорить сколько нужно времени и сил что-бы разошлось клеевое соединение, клей может быть и лютый), а в способе крепления лопасти к топорищу. Отсутствует расклинивание обнуляет практическую ценность данного инструмента почти полностью. В топоре свободная посадка недопустима, так как не пройдет и часа работы косые нагрузки приведут к разжевыванию топорища в месте посадки. При болтающемся клинке работать невозможно.

Оборудование прфесиональное. Мастер тоже не новичек.Одно замечание.Топор имеет входное и выходное отверстие. Входное уже, выходное шире, для клина.А мастер начал рисовать контуры нового топора наоборот.А смотреть на работу мастера - одно удовольствие. Мастер !Молодец !

@@igy1950 Интересненько, я про это и не знал, мне бы конечно и в голову не пришло соединять через черную шайбу алюминий и медь, но все равно я впервые узнал что шайба обязательно должна быть нержавейкой или оцинкованной. У вас небольшая ошибка - ГОСТ 9.005-72.

Good lord, that's a gorgeous result! I can't help wondering if the metal center of the handle might send more vibration through the hand than pure wood if actually using it regularly, but that looks more like a museum piece that you'd be keeping on the wall than actually splitting wood, so probably not an issue. I absolutely love it, though. Marvelous!

I have a deep reverence for the craftsman who created tools and the tools themselves, that have lasted beyond a lifetime. There’s something special about holding something that’s survived not only time but the abuse that it’s taken during it’s lifetime. I think about who may have used the tool and for what purpose. Thanks for giving this tool time for the next generation to hopefully use and appreciate.🙏👍🇺🇸 Your skills are off the chart BTW.

That was the part I liked the least... I thought it would be an aluminium wedge mounted old scool. But it is in style with the metal hybrid, so I guess it has to be that system.
I had to blow through most of the video due to lack of time. I have seen some nice restorations, but that is one of the best, if not the best I have seen. Everything from the cut of the axe head to the sculp of the handle is simply masterful. Wish I could restore one of my dad's tools. Your grandpa would be proud. That is a 'cutting edge' axe for the ages.
If you ever make another, similar to this one, I think it would look great mounted on a handle of MESQUITE! In the us it’s mainly used for the aromatic smoke. Few know that it is a truly beautifully grained piece of wood. Just a simple carnauba wax, buffed to a high gloss. Stunning
I understand that tastes are different. I could never do that to my grandfather's axe. I could never smoothe out the beautiful forging work the axe head shows. I only given it's wood some sanding and oiling, the axe head a good grind and sharpening, and a new wedge for tight fitting. I could never destroy the traditional look of beauty into something that looks this... Modern, almost cyber-like. Just sad your grandpa's axe's charme is basically gone. 😢 But... That's just me and it's obviously important what you connect with the axe. And regardless, you did great work there 😊
