What a beautiful transformation! You’ve given the axe head a new long lease of life and created a wonderful new handle too…safety first in that respect given the state of the old handle I imagine. In creating that handle you’ve shown me a process that I hadn’t seen before, thank you!

Very nice dedication and workmanship. This axe looks like an old Nordland Cruising Axe. I have one that is about 50 years old (I bought it new). As such, I would have chosen to haft it with a handle about twice as long. Cruising axes are lightweight two-handed axes.
I’ve never done a full restoration on any tools but I have brought plenty back to a working life. I have found it’s easier to remove a little at a time, I know if I hit a tool with steel wool many time I don’t have to do much after
Thanks for sharing this. The handle looks nice 👍 why did you not remove the residual rust grooves? So that one can see it is restored and not new maybe 🤔

Does anybody know why the rust removal come before sandblasting? Couldn't the rust be removed through sandblasting as well?
Hello. I guess sandblasting seems to be be expensive. So it is more cost effective to remove rust before sandblasting.
The work should proceed at its own pace. Everything has principles
@@HowToRestoration ? How does that relate to my question?
@@FDA1345the rust fouls the media. Easier and cheaper to remove most of the rust first.
