Brother, I learned about 15 years ago. Go buy a stck OE sensor. I had a 91' T-Bird 5.0 H.O sport LX. Black on black. The IAC went bad and I bought one from Discount Auto Parts ( Now Advance Auto Parts) and it ran like crap. I bought one from the dealer and she ran so good. Aftermarket sensors are universal and fit a broad calibration range so it will fit alot if dif vehicles. I don't trust that anymore. That I ax lasted 12 years and was still on there when I sold it. Aftermarket sensors don't last and are all over the place.
Great content, Keep up the great work! EDIT: As a side note, I noticed a false knock on my truck up top after my LT Header install as well. I wonder if its just the Harmonics of certain brands of LT Headers causing it.
24 degrees timing at wot around 5800 rpms seems just a little low could you not put about 26 to 28 degrees in and make more power? Also 11.84 afr seems pretty rich on a NA engine…I like to shoot for about 12.30
Love your vids man, I was always curious on my old set up what it would of put down for WHP, vortec max (L76) BTR stage 3v2 cam. Long tubes, CAI but I’m in Canada eh. So The DA was never in my favor haha
Still enjoying your content. If you're looking for suggestions for new videos, I've been reading up on and playing with injector timing. I'd love to see some videos on adjustments of injector timing for cam swaps or injector sizing and the effects on drivability and dyno results.
That really worked out well!! Truck was really running good! I wish I were near you so you could tune mine that I’m giving my daughter. Where are you located? Is there a way to email a tune to someone?
These are pretty similar results to what I got on my Truck Norris Suburban. Made 330 whp on a dynojet without headers, stock manifolds. Tuner only ran it up to 6k RPM with my truck though.
@@albertchaidez6317 yeah i plan on going back to the tuner to have the shift points increased. The truck shifts at 5700 rpm at the moment, right at peak power. Definitely lots of power left on the table.
I have a 2003 suburban with the TN NSR cam. Milled heads and light port work. Otherwise it's stock. This is the first vehicle I'm using to learn how to tune with HPtuners.
Hello I am going to add in my yukon 5.3 2008 v8 BTR NORRIS CAM Air cold intake volant Headers long tube speed engineer Exhaust speed engineer with x pipe 3 inch HOW Much hp and tq will I get Thanks
Question, I've swapped a 6.0 in my 93 osb, have holley terminator x max. Been running with no problems for couple years. O2 shot crap because head gasket going out, Cam bearings roached, so time to install parts Been collecting. Wondering if it will self learn enuff to drive to get me by. Nearest tuners 200 miles away. New parts, truck norris-799's-trail blazer ss- GM 93mm throttle body & match/ Corresponding GM dbw pedal Assembly. Also 93cc Multi injectors, I know they're big but i'm planning on a future turbo. I really need it to work for a while. I spent my lunch money on parts.
How does one know whether it’s false knock or real knock? It seems you reduced the spark advance at that problem cell yet the knock remains, is that the telltail sign? How much spark should you pull? Is 5 enough to tell? Should you try 10 just to be confident?
Matt, is it safe to say that you do almost all of your tuning in open loop? If so, do you disable any of the fuel modifiers? I'm unsure on how one would be able to make WOT pulls with the PE modifiers turned off which is why I ask! Tuning in OL is new to me but it seems to be a more efficient way than doing part throttle tuning with LTFT AND THEN using a wideband to do the WOT tuning. Thanks!
Have you Dyno tuned before and after for a 5.3l with a truck Norris i have seen Richard holdener on the engine Dyno pick up like 60 to 67 hp just wondering how that works out at the wheels
Hey Mike, can u give your contact info, i have a ls swap 5.3 bored to a 5.7 fully worked heads, truck norris cam, it ok but like to bring it to you, it is in 1977 C10, with a 4l60 rebuilt above stock.
Brother, do you do remote tuning? I am currently working on a Ls3/ 4L80 swap in a 03' Crown Vic Police Interceptor. It will be a while before I finish. But I am thinking ahead lol.
I’ve been looking for about two hours trying to find in your videos how to setup the custom math for the ve % on the vcm scanner. Can you point me to the video I need or tell me how to do it?
That video hasn’t been released. I will first release a video about it to my channel members that are at least silver support or higher. I’ll actually be dropping that video to them this week. Otherwise, I’m not sure if the info is available anywhere else that you are going to be able to easily find. I will eventually release a video on it for everyone to see but it will probably be a little while before I do that.
I have a random question about afr that I can't seem to find a straight answer for and I may just be over thinking it honestly. Tuning ve tables. I've been trying to tune so my afr is rich wide open and leaner at idle and light cruise. Am I approaching this wrong. Meaning should I be tuning so that the afr stays as close to the set point as possible then tuning pe tables for heavy load scenarios once ve is dialed in at stoich? Lol. Sorry I'm a newbie and I thought I was almost dialed and now my head is all spun around.
It shouldnt be hard to find a "lean tune" for low load and idle conditions that will use TPS reading to richen up the ratio at medium and high loads. If you really want it done and you have the software for it you can probably get a pretty good discount on getting a professional tuner to just set it up on you computer and software. If the place he works for doesnt want to charge low enough just offer to pay him cash to do the tune on his off work hours. It wont save alot of gas milage unless you're stuck in traffic and accelerating slowly enough. Just make sure to set it up to control the extra low speed heat build up, (electric fans & thermostat) programmed to cut on early. I'm sure you know all of that but if the local tuning shop wants too much, just see if you can pay the tuner on the side. Good luck. I've do e that kind of stuff with plenty of guys that had access to stuff I didnt or knows how to do thi gs I cant do.
@ i use hptuners. Id rather not have to pay someone to tune it. Im learning as i go. I got myself straightened out. It had been a few years since i messed with hptuners and after watching a random video trying to find an answer to something i had myself spun in circles questioning if i was going about it correctly or not. I got it figured out though after I stepped away for a bit and let my brain process things lol.
So I've got watched you from the beginning. Do you tune Part throttle VE by failing the MAF and the MAF by disabling dynamic fueling? I know in PE it strictly MAF.
No I tune both simultaneously, but that’s something I spent years trying to learn. I will eventually teach that process but that will be a long time down the road. For now, I’m trying to keep everything in the videos simple(ish).
@@Matt_Sanfordawesome. So is this the Brake Specific Fuel Consumption table you do? Can't wait until you graduate us into Middle school. 😂😂 Keep up the work loving it
Why does the timing oscillate so much at idle? Is that just for a cam lope sound or is that what the cam wants? I have a BTR stage 2 truck cam and it doesn't have a lot of lope to it and I've seen the "ghost cam" tune spark adjustments on the over/underspeed - is that safe to do? Thanks for your videos
It oscillates for a few reasons. First reason is because the customer does like an aggressive idle. The second reason is timing is faster/better for idle control versus trying to use the throttle blade for small adjustments.
@@Matt_Sanford thanks for the reply! Do you have a video on how to achieve that type of idle? I've messed around a bit with over/under speed settings to make the car sound more aggressive but if I come out some acceleration to an abrupt stop my engine seems to stumble a bit. 🍻🍻
I just made some tuning changes on my truck Norris canned 03 Suburban after watching this. The improvements really helped it pick up some pep.

Yes. I adjusted Stoich for the E10 content in pump gasoline.
Why did you change the stoich afr ?
Pump E10 Ethanol has a Stoich between 14.08-14.12 depending on content.
Interesting. I missed that in the video
