Absolute beauty. I'm fishing the Gaula next year and the GH is a top fly on this river so I'll be tying some up. Thanks Davie.

Love the way you incorporated the cone into the tube. I tie many flies but still have no opportunity to fish them. So I wouldn't know about whether the cone is allowed or not. I will have to keep this in mind when I tie tube flies in future. All the best, Sean

This is a beautiful fly. It looks like a collection trophy rather than a functional, and I am sure, a productive fly. Geat job, as always.

I would really like to see you tie this as the fully dressed classic it is. As it should be tied.
I dont know how many times I have watched the Durham Ranger video! They truly are the most beautyful flies. Or maybe a video with one of your freestyle flies.
Amazing to see a true master in action.

Removed the cone and tied it on various double hooks instead. Best pattern for the early season ive ever used here in Northern Norway. Its become my favorite salmon fly ever since i first tied it about 2 years ago. It also takes alot of effort to make it look perfect and i love the challange.

Hi Davie, really enjoying your tuition videos as someone who is just venturing into tying. I am wanting to try the Green Highlander Spey Tube fly above but despite repeated efforts I have not found any source for the "heavy duty tubing" that you refer to. The largest tubing OD have found so far is 3mm OD. Can you please advise or suggest a source for this "Heavy Duty" tubing. Much obliged, Colin

      Hi Colin,
It's getting harder now to find someone that sells this tubing, if you can contact me through Facebook or something like this privately then I would be happy to send you some but you can't do this on TH-cam..
      All the very best Davie

Hi Davie. Great tying videos! Thanx for sharing your knowledge.
I have a question regarding the very long wings on these tube flies. Do you ever have problems with salmon striking the wing but missing the hook? I'm new to tube fly tying and I'm quite taken aback by the size of these creations.

Hi Davie, an amazing tie and pattern, you make it look very simple!! What hackle materials are you using for the head, look slike very large hen hackle, could be marabou its that long. Cheers Mark

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark,
I'm glad you liked this version of the Green Highlander, the yellow hackle is a Schlappen hackle which can be very soft with long fibres, the next hackle is dyed black Blue Eared Pheasant and then I finished off with a dyed GH Guinea Fowl...Marabou can be used as well but use the tips of the hackles as they are much stronger...
      All the very best Davie

    Hi Davie,
Popping into the GAC to get materials for this fly.
Just a few questions if you dont mind...
-Where did you buy the Green Highlander Flashabou?
-Is the Arctic Fox from the body or tail?
-Could I use Artic runner as a Substitute to Goat Hair(Cant find Green Highlander goat)
-Could I use a Spey Hackle instead of the Blue eared Pheasant? Do the GAC sell the Pheasant?
-What type/size of tube did you use?
    Sorry for All that...
    Many Many thanks Once Again!
    Best Regards,
    ~David

    Hi Davie,
Im so stupid. I was waiting for a reply on my other channel (this channel) as I forgot I had posted that question on my WEESTRAWZ channel and unfortunetly I went up today after thinking you hadn't replied due to you being busy at work or something.
Nevermind though I got black Spey Hackles!
Thank you so much once again,
