    Wow Davie, you have made those wings look really easy. I have tried to tie them and took several more goes at it than you did and got them decent. I am happy the fish are not as critical as I am. All the best, Sean

    Love the feather variations, Can feathers be dyed with a third darker color at very tip? Would the white vinegar be added very last to set dye? Thank you again for the wonderful videos,an clear instructions on the process.🙏😊😊

    Hello Davie.......Thanks for the video. I just don't like when it ends :-)). I struggle with the bronze mallard wings, so I guess I'll watch your video over and and over!! Thank you.......Best regards......Kevin

      Hi Kevin,
      I'm glad you enjoyed the video and don't worry too much about the wing, just don't try and put too much on and if you are happy with the single wing then stop at that as I could have done with the wing in the video...

    I admire the ease by which You go, beautiful fly....
    I'm struggling a bit with the spey feathers, they are quite fragile and the "legs" often break with me, have You got any tips with spey-feathers....???

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bjarke Strøm,
      Getting good feathers has always been a problem, the best feathers I've ever used came from a White Eared Pheasant which can be dyed like this, the last one I bought came from ebay and was a stuffed bird..The Blue Eared Pheasant is easier to find and these feathers are Ideal for dyeing black as well as using as a sub for heron..I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the kind words..

    Why did you choose Green palmered hackle? It is quite striking, is that the only reason?? It's a beautiful fly no doubt!!

    you are so great. I would love too see when you coloring the feathers, will you make a video about that? please..please...I am down on my knees

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Line Jensen,
      It's been a while since I dyed some feathers like this but it's quite easy as all you have to do is dip dye the tips after dying them with the lighter colour as the dye takes very easy...If I do I'll film it next time...
      All the very best Davie...

    Hey Davie, love your work, can you recommend a good feather dye? Any particular technique to dying feather or hair?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +esoxlucius13,
      I use Veniards dyes which are very easy to use, just follow the instructions inside though you do need to watch the dye when dying the materials as there will be a point that you will need to remove the feathers when you are happy with the colour...I do have a video on youtube in which I dye some feathers sunburst...

    hi davie. cheers from the Midwest once more! can I substitute the spey hackle for a puff marabou stripped on one side? Thanks great video.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brandon Nevarez,
      Puff Marabou would be perfect sub for the spey hackle as they are used a lot on very similar patterns and are far easier to find...

      Davie Hello from Russia ! Thank you for your work! I learned a lot from your video. Tied up a lot of your salmon flies and caught on the Kola Peninsula river Varzuga salmon. Thank you TEACHER!

      I was tying some large tube flies and the adapter I use sits well in the law, I just couldn't be bothered changing it back...

    is there any reason to use 8/0 over 6/0? personally i use 6/0 for everything but ive only been tying a few years.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mistermooseers,
      I do use 8/0 mostly but to be honest just use what you are happy with as that's what I do...
      All the very best Davie

    • @Moose19
      @Moose19 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** im thinking of switching over to 8/0, 6/0 seems to get very bulky on flies with alot of materials

    • @shire-lee
      @shire-lee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mistermooseers I use 8/0 on all of my flies except saltwater patterns. you're right it does get too bulky and tends to leave you with little room at the end near the eye. depending on what you are tying, of course.
