Kampung Baru is still around because of Muslim inheritance laws. Let me explain. When a muslim pass away, his property will hv to be divided to all his son and daughters as according to Syariah laws. Sons get 2X whats the daughters get. After several generations, and with malays having large families, a property could be owned by thousands of decedents. Thus its almost impossible for buyers to negotiate to buy the property as someone in the family will object.
Ellis and Alicia are on a different level than other Western vloggers. Notice how they make an effort to interact with locals and the locals actually want to chat and connect with them. It's not easy to convince people to do that when you stick a camera in their face.
You so lucky to be here in malaysia .. proud of that uncle really kind man.. represent our religion islam .. our nation which is malay and our belove malaysia proudly
2:30 You nailed it sir. Vultures have been circling Kampung Baru for decades. That piece of land is valuable, and as you said it'll be a shame if this place gets destroyed.
Agreed about the best places for nasi lemak. Usually they are those homemade nasi lemak by the roadside. Thank you Mr Khalil for your hospitality. Lontong is also a popular dish served during Hari Raya. I think its about time you visit Sarawak and spend a week at a longhouse and experience their daily lives in the jungle of Borneo.
Hi Ellis and Eleisha love the country vlogs. Great scenery and extra friendly people. Oh and Eliis absolutely love your new hat ❤ keep up the great videos.
Alicia seems more relaxed as you guys travel more. In earlier videos, she sometimes looked terrified of the unknown 😅.. but now, she seems more relaxed, good job Alicia! Hope you two have a great time wherever you are😊
Thank you for this video and your explorations in Kampung Baru. What a wonderful village in KL. The vibe in the Malay village is totally different from the modern concrete jungle.
Hai..... happy to see both of you back in Malaysia. I have been watching your channel since both of you visited Taiping Perak. Love your contents meeting the locals n enjoy the food. Hopefully you will visit my hometown Sarawak n experience the lifestyle of other ethnics in Borneo...
Land house there in kg.baru probably cost 1.5mil USD .. around 5mil MYR.. hope they won't sell it to developers.. and preserve Kg.baru as it is.. 1mil USD will be gone in no time..😂
In my childhood days the roti man rides a bicycle.. most of them are indian muslim from india .. once a year they will go home to their country n someone else will take over his place here .. the bicycle carries a big round basket with roti n currypuffs n suji cookies.. its traditionally made.. n the roti are really good they bake them inside a wall which has fire in it.. but today the roti man takes from the factories n sell them.. i prefer the old days better ..
@EllisWR full of indonesian traders. We locals suspect elements of corruption at city Hall. You need trading license which is given to locals only. Same with kampung baru. My Chinese ancestors who built up kl will be extremely sad to see this.
For Malaysian, Simple English language is good enough for simple conversation. Dont throw away or forget our National Language, Bahasa Malaysia, our cultures, our costumes, our histories, our traditional music, games, foods etc. Its our identities. Unique. 😊
I’m from a small town so I’m staying in Kg Baru while spending 3 wks in KL. Looking fwd to exploring the village, talking to locals, eating local non-chain food 👌. Was in KL 24yrs ago and it reminds me of the KL I remember then. Small businesses, no twin towers
Actually, there is another kampung with nice nature in Kuala Lumpur, and the kampung is call Kampung Sungai Penchala. If you guys still in Kuala Lumpur, i suggest you guys can visit this Kampung.
Kuala Lumpur price and east coast (Kelantan/Terengganu) also my hometowan Baling is very big different... at with rm10 u still can get proper breakfast nasi with vafiety dish + drink... but in KL i believe more than that maybe rm15 i think..
Kampong Baru is in the big city itself. The inhabitants will definitely go to KLCC, Bukit Bintang or Chow Kit to run their errands, not just stay put in the area. They literally live in the heart of the city and there are many prominent figures and millionaires that came out off Kampung Baru. I'm a KL native, born and bred and live in Bukit Ceylon near Bukit Bintang. Initially, there were many kampung houses or Malay kampung back in the days as long as 1800s and paved ways for development. We need development to progress but Kampung Baru will co-exist within KL's development till the end of time. Fyi, there's quite a number of "Malay kampung" houses as well if you go to other parts of KL such as Kampung Datuk Keramat which is quite similar to Kampong Baru where they have eateries and street vendors. KL history is quite rich and diverse. If just wanna talk about Malay kampung, the area that I'm living (Bukit Nenas) used to be Malay kampung circa 1800s and as time progress with the British brought in immigrants from its other colonised countries and protectorate, this area became diverse and landscape had changed with modern development that came through after.
This was a separate day me and Alicia went. I visited with Tim another time and will release that video in a few days my friend. I've been super busy so videos are not up to date sorry!
Actually there are so many kampung just like Kpg Bharu 40-50 years ago in Kuala Lumpur.. but most has been taken over by high rise buildings and apartments. Some famous Kampung are Kg Abdullah Hukum, Kg Kerinci and Kg Pandan. Now the name is only on LRT station. 😢
The putu piring looks delicious would love to try them, I think it’s similar to ขนมต้ม (Khanom Tom) here in Thailand with coconut sugar inside and flour with coconut flake on the outside looks well good and sweet. 😋
Nasi lemak wanjo does taste good, but now they change recipe to cater to tourist taste buds. So if foreigner just wanna know how nasi lemak taste like, i would recommend that place. But for more homey vibes, i would recommend the small street vendors in residential area.
Negeri Sembilan is where you want your food to be spicy. Like how mark wiens say, if it's not spicy I ain't eating. That's how negeri sembilan people are. Cheers 🎉
I hope kampung Baru will be preserve as usual. Let be there forever. For Malay goodness. Just touch up a little bit with modern facilities. And not like a slum area in other countries. That kampung was legal Kampung. That land belong to the Malay owner.

Yeah local Malaysian people are lovely
His video seems so vividly clear picturisthic. He must be using latest tech camera
Everybody uses gopro but I don't like them. I use a Sony it looks more real life
Literally every Southeast Asian videos are the locals giving you guys free food, tea or fruits. Insane consistency of character.
Yeah it's lovely. I think we get on well with locals as we're respectful and make a lot of effort.
Every Eid I would eat lontong from breakfast-lunch-dinner. 😋

Yeah that's why we prefer the rest of the country to travel

Tourists to be honest don't like food to taste like local flavour they enjoy bland stuff!
