- Gigantic was a free-to-play strategic third-person shooter video game developed by Motiga and published by Perfect World in 2017.
As a hero shooter, this game showed a great deal of potential with a unique art style and creative gameplay mechanics that set it apart from the competition.
Sadly, a combination of factors from poor marketing to financial difficulties ultimately resulted in the game being shut down before it could really take off.

@@ououkuaipao It's more about the matter of time and when. Riot make LoL as an indie but blow up to become a giant by themselves. Whereas Dawngate which was backed by EA and supposed to be LoL"s competitor still lost to LoL. Gigantic problem is that they came too late, not that they need big corp to compete
@@dieptrieu6564 LoL had no competitors when it was first released, since the original dota has decreased in player count, and as for dawngate it was announced when LoL was the heat, one of the reason why valorant got really popular is because a lot of ppl got tired of csgo and wanted something new, Gigantic was released when LoL and Dota 2 is in their prime time, so ppl care less about new 'competitor' games, if Gigantic was released this year it would've been big (maybe not as big as LoL or Dota), since ppl got really burned by LoL and Dota by now, so a fresh and unique moba-esque game like Gigantic would be a blessing
This game was a core memory for me, for a whole month i would come home from school and be so hyped to play this game, after three years of trying to boot the game on xbox and seeing this video for the first time i gave up, all hope was lost.

I desperately need something like this to release. Overwatch has been a rocky relationship, League is just... league. Gigantic's art style, unique heroes, and even just the action moba in general is a type of gameplay that I absolutely love. Crucible, something similar in more recent years, immediately tanked on release, but I need something like this to release soon that can actually have a playerbase.
Amen to this, theres literally nothing like Gigantic for some reason. Ive been playing Paladins and Ow, but they are just not the same, slow, stiff, generic, boring modes and characters.

I played Gigantic for about 3 months before it went offline and I absolutely loved it. Played it for like 4-6 hours a day almost everyday and honestly if it came back I would right back on that hype train.

For those that miss Gigantic (like I do as well), there's a small team developing a spiritual successor to it called Project Stamina. Do bear in mind that the team is indeed very small, so development is a little slow. It does show promise though, and I believe they're doing a closed pre-alpha soon.

@Grungeboy Every game's and developer's situation is different. It's very possible for a smaller studio to succeed where a larger one didn't. Larger studio =/= more successful game

the game is finally coming back! they just announced a remake that's coming out in april of this year. im so excited! i LOVED this game when it first came out and was super disappointed with how it ended, but thankfully gearbox came in clutch and brought it back
This game still has a dedicated few people playing a post-mortem build of the game, me being one of them. Seeing such a wonderful project get stomped by its competition is heartbreaking, because its a blast to play

The ultimate paradox of marketing: You need something familiar, but you need it to stand out.
If your concept is simple enough, marketting should be easy regardless of how mainstream it is or isn't. Splatoon was all about racing to paint the ground your color, Among Us is about finding out which of your friends is a traitor, and Fortnite is about being the last man standing. All of these are simple and easy to market concepts.
As stated in the video, trying to sum up Gigantic in a smooth and succinct way isn't feasible which was what hurt its marketability the most.

@@O_RLY To the uninitiated, that would require an explanation of what Overwatch is first. Additionally the giant snake bit doesn't do much to say what the player will be doing in the game or why they should be excited to play it.

@@fredriddles1763 I do agree with your statement but for some of these games like Among Us and Fortnite the games were widely unpopular during their early stages and close to their official launches. Among Us became famous due to streamer overflow (and COVID outbreak) making it more appealing because you watched your favourite streamer personality play it a ton and Fortnite was a Tower Defense zombie game but used the resources it had to go into the Battle royale market since PUBG was so popular.
Regarding simple and easy concepts though I think you are right on the money since having a highly complex MOBA-Hero Shooter title means they need to put extra effort into marketing the game or creating simpler game modes for people to learn and enjoy the game in a raw form (haven't played it since I don't play on PC or Xbox so not sure it had those).
Another game with a simple and easy concept was Battlerite that ultimately failed and died off even though it was basically an arena fighter using top-down MOBA like mechanics.
It's back by the way! Please don't let it die again!
Me and my friend played it since the beta came out and we loved it so much the fluidity the art-style gameplay was all just amazing. They simply didn’t know how to market and did not bring enough attention to it. Everyone that did play it we all agree it was amazing so the game wasn’t the problem. It was simply the attention or lack there of surrounding it.

I FREAKING love Gigantic. I Loved the style, the gameplay, the characters, the build paths, the mascots. I played with the little scotish girl and it was awesome. I really really would support for a relaunch.

I feel sad every time I remember Gigantic, but super thankful that I got to play it for almost all of its lifetime. Queues became eternal at times because of the low player base but with some friends that played with me made my last high school year just amazing. I’m super hyped about Project Stamina, and every single one of the developers of Gigantic, my hat is of to you.

This was my favorite game when it came out and thinking back on it makes me feel angry, sad, and desperate. I wish I could just go onto a stage in front of the entire internet and let them know about this masterpiece. That this game existed.
Well you can, if you are willing to put the time and effort to talk about it here, I don't know how hard it is to start but considering the amount of channels that are able to grow rapidly now, it shouldn't be too difficult, it's just whether you think you can, and are willing to put the time and effort in and I don't know you so I can't say anything about that.

It felt like it came out during a time where people wanted more of something similar to the popular games but now I'm hearing people saying they want something new, begging even. A F2P revival with ranked matches and a decent store monetization would be awesome. There's so many examples to look at to revitalize the title imo :(

Overwatch and the hero shooter genre is dying because the support for those games have been terrible over the years with horrible patches and character releases. If this game launched today it would have a huge impact on the market.

I did get to try out on Gigantic. It was brilliant. I would go as far to say that it's more fun than Overwatch. This game can be both casual and competitive and still be fun either way. Losing in this game feels justified and fair despite not being fully developed. Sound design is so good that its hammered into my head and I can say I almost shed some tears hearing the intro. Really hope this game comes back, or an iteration of it.

The game was actually fairly popular on release the devs just didn't know what they were doing, I mean fuck, 100k views in 8 hours for a video about a game that died in like its first month.
the people who played the game didn't like it because it had a bunch of huge huge balance/mechanics issues, so they left and then they forgot it sucked and remembered how pretty it was and that's how this vid was made.

Never played gigantic but the battleborne beta was sooo fun. A week later the OW beta launched and we all downloaded. After about 30mins we all said "wanna go back to battleborne?" Lmao
@@beantreats I had the same situation with my friends and Battleborn, but sadly I was the only one who wanted to go back to it, and they wanted to stay with Overwatch. I still played it, but it wasn't the same without friends :/

So, apparently Gearbox is trying to resurrect Gigantic, and they are gonna have a new playtest with some new content this week, October 5 2023.
That clip of block n load in the beginning brought back so many memories I feel like I’ll never meet another person that played that game

Block N Load was pretty original too. But too bad nobody wants original games... So games like Gunz, Block N Load, Street Gears, Project Powder etc just die without support

Beckette was so much fun to play, I also miss playing Ramsey and Tyto the Swift.
I actually sunk a lot of hours into Gigantic, and the gameplay was fantastic. I felt bleeding edge needed to go in this direction when it came down to the game rules and balancing.
I remember playing that game back when i was on Xbox one. It stood out among other games and you could feel the love that the devs put into making the characters and thier animations. Every time i played, the game was fun and never frustrating, even when we were losing. It had so much potential!
I remember playing this game in the first month of its beta and I loved it to death. But then Overwatch stole my interest, and I had forgotten about Gigantic for years until now... I wish this game were still available to play... :(
It should be noted that "Project: Stamina" is an attempt at making a game very similar to Gigantic. This kind of game may see the light again someday.
