FPV Part 13 - Install UBEC for APM Servos and glue SkyWalker fuselage (Remix)

  • Thanks to viewer comments I decided to add a separate UBEC to power the servos in case the ESC fails and to prevent ground looping. Unfortunately I had already glued the fuselage halves together so that made it a little challenging to install the UBEC. Explanation of the wiring connection changes for the UBEC also included. This video is part of build series that is already up if you want to see more:

UBEC is only powering the servo rail. I had to remove a jumper to remove power module from servo bus/rail. I think it's JP1 that you remove. See the link to the wiring diagram in the description of this video.

Love The liquid electrical tape i use it all the time over solder points. It’s easy to remove as well if you need access later

Another great video, don't really understand the UBEC for power to the APM. I thought the power module did all that. Guess not. That's okay what I don't understand I don't understand. I've been adding UBEC to that S500, camera, retractable gears, that kind of stuff. Got all that finished. Been watching videos on that 2 position switch for the flight controller. I think the best way is Open TX then Beta flight to fine tune. Not to sure on the Beta flight. We'll see. I have everything upgraded to 2.2.3, Companion and Taranis+. Just need to jump in there and get-her-done. Reprogrammed the X8R from PPM to SBUS. That's was the easy part. Bought a Pixhawk PX4. Think I like the APM 2.8 better. We'll see. Looking forward to your next video.

Jim.....Servos generate noise and can draw a lot of power, isolating the 5v Servo Power Rail from the APMs processor circuit is standard practice. It's the same story on an Omnibus F4 Flight Controller for the exact same reason....Servos are noisy..!!!!!....Noise in your FC spells trouble.

Why don't you try Sbus for APM?

I thought if you add external power to the servo rail you need to set a jumper on the Apm.

Looks like you have power module and ubec sending power to Apm is this correct?
