As a 51 yr old, I class myself extremely fortunate, to have seen four wonder horses at the magic distances, Frankel over a mile, El Gran Senor at one mile two. And Dancing Brave and See the Stars over the mile and a half.
Along with Brigadier Gerard this Guineas was pure quality. 10 lengths to an Arc winner Rainbow quest with a great miler Chief Singer second. Frankel was great, but he was playing with donkeys. I do not believe Excelebration is even 125 horse to be honest.
My old man worked in racing for all the top trainers over 50 yrs, and he would tell anyone that would listen that the Brigadier’s 2000g win was the best ever, second to none so it was 🏇🙏
Almost Agree.. I like Dancing Brave, Zilzal and Zafonic.. Along with the Senor and Chief Singer.. These 5 would Be tops for me.. I can't talk about the Brigadier, Mill Reef and my swallow as I was 6 when that 2000 guineas was run.. But agreed.. I think the Senor would have beaten Frankel.. Certainly, the Opposition he faced was absolutely Awesome..
I don't think beating Chief Singer makes him the best miler ever. Seriously, no. If he'd stayed at a mile and not got injured, he would be far higher up the ratings (and in the general memory of racing). I don't know if Robert Delacy's reading this (because if you are, you're entirely correct) but it's pretty obvious from Epsom that EGS would have been even better at 10 furlongs than a mile. We'll never know, and that's a pity.
shocking ride by mercer when a horse stays why hold it up sorry but mr mercer hopeless that day time charter was the best horse should have won a arc as a three year old
