Awesome. Thanks for all the great ideas! remember my name. remember rollo robertson productions.. we're sneaking up on the world! wait till you see what we've got!
really good video, and really good advice. i feel like i have may have something very funny for tv. i already have a synopsis and characters details written, and i even have a first episode written. i'm just all the way in michigan, and not sure how i can get in touch with anyone.
I'm pitching a show based on my manuscript to a lot of networks imbedded month including VICE's new division! So if it gets picked up, they'll but my book rights as well?
The best way to avoid having your concept ripped off is to have an extremely unique concept. I am currently in the process of pitching my television series, and it's sort of a gray area with the whole "how do I protect myself" thing from what I have seen so far. One good way, however, is to have anyone that you allow to read your project sign a Non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and that way you at least have a record that they agreed to not produce or share any of the information that you have provided them with regarding your project.
My issue with that is: Sure they can sign the NDA, but whose to say they wont make something very similar. Sure my idea might not be the best in the world, but you always have to treat it that way when pitching. Thanks for the advice though.
FRYESTUDIOS Right I fully agree with that...Which is why I said an "extremely" unique idea. The bottom line is that with the show I am doing right now, you couldn't do something similar without being obvious about it's origins. But at the end of the day man, you frankly have to take a leap of faith sometimes, register your project with the WGA, copyright your manuscript, and only deal with people that you feel comfortable with. For example, when I first started pitching there was a guy I knew was connected at a network and could arrange a meeting, but I didn't trust him, so I just passed. In the long run if you hustle and you have a solid idea you can get the meetings and get it done. I am in the middle of it right now, and I gotta say I love it.
