    Despite having a higher pricepoint than places like shein, places like zara are still fast fashion. If you really are trying to help the environment, reduce sweatshop labor, etc., then one high thing that you can do is just keep your clothes for longer, no matter who you buy from. It'll reduce the demand for unethical clothing, reduce the waste that you produce from throwing out clothes, and save you a lot of money!

    • @lauramolina3337

      I think the most important part is trying to reduce our consumption in general, so keeping clothes for longer, not feeling like you should only use colors that go with the season, trying to reuse/ repurposed clothing, and buying used clothing.

    • @Shadowfussel

      also learn how to mend your own clothing! what helped me immensely to wear my clothing longer was learning how to alter it to make it fit better or look slightly different.

      “Keep clothes for longer”, not to sound like a boomer, really not trying to 😬!!, but the fact that you need to spell that out for some people is astounding to me. Maybe it’s because I grew up poor, but my family never threw out clothes because they were “out of style”. We bought clothes that would endure all trends, i.e. jeans, t-shirts, blouses, sweaters, etc. If the clothes you want to buy are part of a “new” trend (there are no new trends) then either hold off or keep it for when the fashion comes back as “retro”. Or! Or, make better choices when buying clothes. Don’t buy shit that is clearly an illogical fad. If at any point you have to convince/second-guess yourself if it looks good, don’t buy it.

    Zara doesn’t pay its garment workers a living wage and also has been shown to use child labor, so they really aren’t any better than shopping at Shein (I’m not sure about Topshop though). They also claim to be eco friendly and are “trying” to take sustainable steps, but it hasn’t really amounted to much it seems. Love the video!!

    Hey! Zara is one of the most well known biggest fast fashion brand and their collections turn over is really really fast too, they’re just pricier because they have actual stores instead of selling online like Shein. London has tons of sustainable independent brands that are just a bit over Zara and Topshop in terms of prices so that might be something quite easy to look into? xx

      Yes I fully agree, the only benefit that can be said about Zara is that the price point, and the better quality makes it unlikely that you will wear their pieces once and throw them away, as is common with garments from Shein. So while they are the same in terms of ethics, I do think buying from places like Zara are slightly better, although of course the most sustainable thing you can do is just reduce your consumption.

    Regarding Zara vs Shein, both companies are known for their terrible treatment of workers (essentially slave labor). However, you’re not wrong for preferring Zara. Shein is fast fashion 2.0, meaning that they turn out new designs at an unprecedented speed (having zero stores enables them to produce more clothes faster), with almost no quality control. Zara is original fast fashion. It’s certainly NOT an ethical company, but you’re going to find higher quality pieces from Zara than Shein, which will last longer, making them slightly less harmful to the environment. Buying fewer clothes - and higher quality clothes - is always the way to go.

  • @queenigelkotte
    @queenigelkotte 2 ปีที่แล้ว +83

    Zara, h&m, topshop, uniqlo, all of those types of brands, are made in the same factories in Bangladesh and other poorer Asian countries. Shein is mostly made in China but the working conditions are the same. The workers are basically slaves. Shein uses a lot of illegal small factories and such. You could argue they are a tiny bit worse but the clothes have to be shipped all around the world and the workers dont have any rights regardless of which fast fashion company you look at

    • @m_n_m7
      @m_n_m7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the way you worded this sounds as if you're saying any clothes made in "poorer asian countries" are "bad".
      they have factories and machines there that most other countries simply do not have, and there are ways to produce clothes ethically. there ARE factories that pay their workers a living wage, and we should support those.
      besides, the us for example forces prisoners to produce clothes and other stuff, for very very little money if any.
      so, the country it's made in does not automatically tell you how ethically it's made.

    • @queenigelkotte
      @queenigelkotte 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@m_n_m7 I know that there are good factories but the ones they use are not those. There are no fast fashion brands that produce ethically. A lot of designer brands dont produce ethically either. The US is one of the worst western countries when it comes to human rights so ofc they would do that.
      This discussion is about unethical fast fashion brands, why would I bring up the better ones(that Im not super familiar with). Besides the clothes still has to be shipped all over the world so unless you live in that region or are visiting, you are still doing the world a disservice.

    • @m_n_m7
      @m_n_m7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@queenigelkotte you misunderstood my point. i never said that h&m or whatever use ethical labor. i said there are factories in asian countries that DO produce ethically, that “made in china” is not necessarily a sign of unethical labor.
      shipping is such a weird, unnecessary point to make. china especially specializes in garment manufacturing, other countries simply do not have the resources and factories to produce clothes like they do on a larger scale.

    • @queenigelkotte
      @queenigelkotte 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@m_n_m7 I might have misunderstood your comment/point but your second comment did not make it any clearer. I dont understand what we are arguing about? We are agreeing???
      Shipping is not a weird thing to bring up, it is highly relevant. You were saying we should support(buy) from the brands in those countries that produce ethically. That is not a good thing if you want to consume ethically. Unless you are completely ignorant of climate change.

They make some more sustainable choices when it comes to their production, such as their dye processes and fabrics in their Join Life Collection. I don't understand why you're still making anti hauls if you're not making any other makeup content

    6:50 funny how you mention about people’s wages and being ethical etc when you’re holding an iPhone in your hand. Hm.

      It’s impossible to find any corporation that is 100% completely UNPROBLEMATIC.
      Someone would have to detach from society, live in the woods, be completely self-sustaining.
      Keep looking for companies to promote and someone is surely going to disappoint you.
      Everyone is free to make their own choices for their own reasons.
      It’s like supporting peta because you’re a vegetarian and then finding out that they have a more than 90% kill rate at their shelters. They don’t believe in pet ownership. In fact, they believe that Phoebe is better off dead than living in Angelika’s house.
      Any company you think is doing great for the world, someone else has a story to tell you otherwise.
      Corporations exist to make money. That’s it.
