The squirrel hair brush is a Japanese fude brush, known for originating in regions that specialize in creating calligraphy brushes. They use other animal hairs too, like goat, tanuki (Japanese racoon), fox etc. So definitely not cruelty free, but definitely a luxury item, also, maintenance and cleaning is a pain. Squirrel hair is known to be extremely soft and also cool to the touch.
Natural hairs brushes can be cruelty free, Wayne Goss's brushes are. I have his first ever set released in 2013 and it's still pristine, the softest brushes I tried (squirrel hair). I used to wash them at the sink like any other brushes but nowadays I clean them by spraying with a quick dry brush cleanser.
@@evieblixt7343 the same way a sheeps coat can be collected cruelty free. as long as you ONLY use the fur, and take care of the animal properly, then it can be cruelty free. but with it being squirrel, assuming their like other short haired animals, shaving them can cause severe skin rashes. so i don’t know. but it is possible to collect animal *fur* ethically. i believe you’re thinking of hide collection like is done with cows, cheetahs, etc for purses, belts and coats.
@Amber Elizabeth no I don't believe you can breed, capture and use an animal cruelty free, especially if it's a for a big company that sells hundreds or thousands of brushes. As it goes for squirrels they would either need to be captured and taken away from their life or bred into existence just to be harvested like a crop. Also just think how many squirrels you need to produce a couple of brushes. And even sheep wool isn't ethical, look into how it actually looks when you harvest sheep wool in big companies. When an animal has to be used it's not cruelty free, because it's simply cruel. If you want cruelty animal byproducts there are some crazy cat lady making hats and bags out of their cats' fur after brushing them lol it takes them months if not years to collect the fur and make ONE bag. There's no good reason for exploiting animals when you can just buy synthetic. It's pathetic and cruel.
I'm doing a 'replacement only' no buy this year! Like you, I didn't want the pressure of a no buy, and end up quitting and failing. Instead, I'm not buying anything new, except replacing everything I use up (especially concealer and mascara, because they run out quickly)
That's what I'm doing to. Personally, I'll find it pretty easy because as much as I love make up I don't wear it on a daily basis so I doubt I will actually run out of anything. But I think only replacing things you need and not buying new stuff just because you want it is a big step in the right direction.
Today I realised that the reason I literally never even think about By Terry whenever I'm in a chemist is because it reminds me way too much of chocolate oranges and I can't get the two extricated in my brain
Yes…I want to know what she’s wearing on her eyes bc it’s absolutely stubborn and I have the same hair color, eye color and definitely want to get whatever it is lol
thanks for sharing about your makeup shopping addiction. i think it’s important to demystify it and bring awareness and understanding to those who may be struggling themselves.

it is great that you are planning to buy 5% of what you used to buy and fighting your shopping addiction :) ps: byterry & dior are not cruelty free and nor it is pat mcgrath :)
I heard that she hasn’t confirmed that she’s cruelty free, recently in a video from Raw Beauty Kristi she also says the same and declutters Pat McGrath because of it.
@@caitlynguy193 thanks for the info. Guess I'll just get some of those colourpop valentine's heart blushes then, of course formula is not the same but I'm trying to limit my purchases and those are super cute
Yeah like everyone has to make there own decision on what they think counts as cruelty free but for those that are fully cruelty free I wouldn’t recommend it’s very gray rn
Squirrel hair makes really good watercolour brushes, they have this bounce to the hair and hold water really well, and I don't think it's THAT expensive. No brush needs this kind of price.
I had a similar misstep with my no buy because I had a $20 credit on yesstyle that was expiring. I ended up spending $45 out of pocket on extra items to get free shipping soooo yeah not so good lol. But life goes on and I'll do better moving forward.

What I've read and watched reviews of those CT eye pots, they're horrible and patchy. I also hoped for them to be a cruelty free option for Mac
