- A video tutorial on how to open and start a 2018 - 2023 Chevrolet Traverse that has a dead or broken remote key fob. If the remote key fob for your Chevy Traverse has a dead battery or is otherwise not working, you will need to use the emergency key located in the bottom of your remote key fob. Once the emergency key is removed, you will then use it to remove the cover and unlock the key cylinder on the Traverse driver's door.
The video on how to start your Chevy Traverse with a dead remote key fob can be found here • 2018 - 2023 Chevy Trav...

So helpful! You just saved me from making an unnecessary roadside assistance appointment! How amazing that this works and starts the car even with the key fob batteries being dead. Thanks again! 👍😊🎉
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Such a great video. The wife and I were wondering how to do this. Guess we could have read the manual but you did a great job on the video explaining each step.
Thanks! Glad it helped
Thank you very much! The video helped me out of a sticky situation. I left the car in the sun, and I think the sensors got too hot, so the key was not detected. After the car cooled down, it worked.
Glad it helped!
Thanks so much for taking the time to create and post this video! I hiked out of the Grand Canyon on a broken ankle and got to my friend’s Traverse only to discover the key fob he had given me was dead. It was not intuitively obvious how to unlock and start the Traverse, but I was able to pull up this video and get into the vehicle and start it. Thanks so much!!
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
You are a lifesaver. Thank you!!
You're Welcome!
Thank you so much for this. It was exactly what I needed with no nonsense. Now to figure out how both key fobs went bad at the exact same time.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Awesome video. Good luck with others. Thanks

Wow!!! Amazing tips and very informative! Excellent video, Thumbs Up!!!
Thanks!
Thanks you so much. My key fob didn’t die but my car battery did, and this video helped me get in my car, jump the battery, and start my car. Thanks again.
You're Welcome!!
Did you find that your remote didn’t work after you jumped the battery? My remotes worked fine until my battery died after leaving my hazards on for 3 hours lol
Thank you for helping. I just got into the car and started it.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped

I’m new to your channel and I want to thank you
Thanks for watching!
I might be needing to do this on my Trax if my spare fob doesn't work. The batteries are the same age, but the spare was hardly used. Thanks for letting me know about the possible alarm. I learned that the transmitter pocket was in the cup holder from a different video.
Glad it helped!
Great video, thank you!

Thank you so much for the video! I saw the emergency key but could not find where to put it. I had no ideal there was a transmitter pocket. I’ve never pulled the liner out. Had no clue it was there

Further question: How do I lock the fob in the Traverse to get in the lake. Your video was very helpful. Honda has it solved.
I think to accomplish that you would need to remove the battery from the fob and then lock the fob in the vehicle using the emergency key
You just saved us in 107 degree Texas heat. Thank you
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
A lot of thanks
I just hire a chevy traverse ❤❤
Glad it helped!

Had the same issue, even after I replaced the battery! This video helped getting the kids to school on time! Thank you!
Perfect video without the extra shit other people want to talk about lol awesome
Thanks to you I didn’t run head first into a wall 😭
I appreciate this video...
how do I stop the alarm if my battery is dead due to a failed alternator?
the vehicle needs to be started in order to shut the alarm off but if the car battery is dead the alarm should have no power
I have a 2020 chevy traverse and my back latch doesn't lock how you get it to lock
Thank you! So detailed. Just had to go out in 4F weather and I didn' want t to have a issue and freeze in the process. It was fast. Thanks again!
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
I did all this I was able to get in my Travers, changed the battery in the fob but still doesn't lock/unlock vehicle
Good to know!
What do you do if you put the cap on the wrong way on the key hole?
you will need to very carefully pry it back off
I changed the fob batttery last night because it said it had 0% and it worked it unlocked and everything. This morning, it only lit the lights up inside and wouldn’t work! I locked and unlocked it with the physical key 6 times and it said learning remote please wait and it went dark again so I opened the door and tried to start it and nothing happened just loud alarm 😢 I’ll try your way and hope it works
Update it worked, it’s on! 🎉 but will I need to do this the next time I turn it on?
Ok, so the fob isn’t working despite the brand new battery I put in. When I turned off the car it says no remote detected, (I put it back on the transmitter and that’s what it wanted) what do I do? How can I make the fob work again?
Typically, changing the battery in the fob is the fix - You may want to try a different battery just to be sure. If the problem persists there may be an issue with the fob itself
❤
Okay now what if the key fob is damaged. Specifically the ring that touches the battery. It is broken (the ring is no longer full circle) chip could be damaged but appears fine aside from that.
depending on how badly it is broken the key fob may need to be replaced
Year 2017 equinox change ky batter
Great stuff!
Thanks!
I just bought a Travese and took the key cap off, now it won't snap back on properly 😢😢😢. Help!
you may need to use a small flathead screwdriver to get it off
I tried putting the cap back but i guess i put it the worng way and it got stuck what should i do
You may need to use a small flat head screwdriver to carefully help get it off
How do we do this “carefully with flat tip”?
If I disconnect the main battery of the car the alarm will stop?
Yes
I have a 2022 treverse and that thing is not in my center console
💐💐
What if you lose the fob but still have the emergency key?
You cannot start the vehicle with just the emergency key
What if my coworkers lost the fob it fell off key
Then you will need to replace the fob but you can use your old emergency key
Was good till I put it back... I put left side first...then now I can't remove it anymore, I tried like the 1st time, I think I try everything! It stuck
Did you get it unstuck?? I’m stuck 😢
Great job but who at GM thought this was a good design? Imagine you have a console full of stuff that has to be emptied to get to the magic FOB holder and you are in an area where the last thing you want to hear is a blaring car horn. Good thinking GM.
like who reads the manual..right? thanks..youtube is easier
🤣🤣🤣 hi cousin lol
Thank you!!!
