Here's my thoughts on the first BLEACH film, Memories of Nobody.

Remember when Senna told Ichigo that she believes that the little boy should have a good memory before passing on?
The way the ending is connected to that with Ichigo lying to Senna, telling her that she existed to give her one last good memory before she died.
That made this the best Bleach movie to me imo.
Just a clarification: Realized I said “her grave” even though it doesn’t end up being hers…don’t make me cry more thinking about that scene.
That scene is absolutely beautiful, and a perfect representation of Ichigo as a character
Exactly like that makes it hurt that much more💔 Ichigo is a kind hearted soul he knew telling her the truth wasn’t a way to send her off god it’s so good
It's the sentiment that counts. Because Ichigo told her it was, she was able to pass away peacefully.
Well seeing that Sienna was a fusion of many souls that had passed, in a way it was her grave, just in another life. 😢
Enjoy it while it lasts. The rest of the movies kind of suck.
This is one of the reasons why Ichigo is one of my favorite anime/manga MC. Just how hard the emotion hits and how he lies about what’s on the grave. This is probably the best Bleach film in terms of pacing and story. Hellverse holds a place in my heart for other reasons but this one really hits you while adding interesting concepts into the narrative that Kubo adds to the manga (Valley of Screams is confirmed in the manga and Ichigo has a throwaway line he’s been there. So movie may or may not be cannon but Ichigo has experienced things)
My personal favourite part about (almost) all the Bleach movies is how they keep Ichigo in character. He's an emotional mess, with a strong facade, and because how mellow and down to earth he actually is makes it hard to write when the author is not present
hey lets keep it a surprise for him that
this movie is a part of tybw piz
Memories of Nobody is wonderful. It tells a really nice story and Senna makes for a very likeable and tragic character.
Definitely my favorite of the Bleach movies.
The devastating part is that it wasn't even her gravestone; she was just a cluster of extraneous memories. Ichigo lied to her so she could die happy.
It's crazy how the best bleach ship comes from a once uncanon movie (now it is). Wish we could see more of Senna but it is what it is
When the ending song played
… tears were shed. 😢
This movie proved that Bleach's beginning was infamous for it's melancholy
Much later on in the manga, this events of movie are actually canonized. I wont explain how or why as that's a spoiler, but this movie is canon and Ichigo canonically went to the valley of screams.
Just started, but I do believe this is the best Bleach movie (also canon by Kubo's word)
The ending at the cemetery brought tears to the eyes. It makes that final scene where Ichigo runs into a girl who resembles Senna more impactful and Ichigo having an expression of hopeful relief at this revelation quite heartwarming after the nightmare that occurred. Hope.
It is one of the best endings for a character in the series, both bittersweet and heartwarming. The fact that Kubo himself seemed to have approved of the story to point that he directly referenced it within the manga, with Ichigo stating that he has been to the Valley of Screams, shows how well Memories of Nobody fits within the narrative of Bleach.
It does a wonderful job of capturing the somber, yet hopeful themes of life and death of the story. Beautiful stuff.
@@jrgenvellesen7800 Truth. It's actually pretty sobering how it's all become canon with even Tokinada expressing pity at those trapped in the valley. Coming from a psychopath like him it's a pretty nasty fate.
@@manuelacosta9463 Indeed. The parallel of the villains of the movie being nobles who has lost their identity, while the true hero of the film is someone who should never have existed, yet found out that her life had meaning and worth, was really well done.
It is canon. I'm not sure when it would have happened, but its referenced directly in the Manga. Hell, the Valley of Screams is outright used later in the story.
I think it takes place during training timeskip during the arrancar arc, so after the first arrancar invasion the one were we first saw Ulquiorra, Yammy, and Grimmjow and his fraccions but before the second invasion were *spoilers*
Orihime gets kidnapped
I don't want to argue specifics but from my understandings it's not canon as a movie but uses concepts that were suggested to Masashi Sogo and Natsuko Takahashi (the main writers) and the story does later bring them up but it's more like it has canon elements in a non-canon movie.
Spoilerish discussion below
Actually not just the valley but senna referenced and considered canon so the events roughly happened but there's probably a lot of retconning they'd have to do to fully make this story work and why it isn't mentioned in the "future" as arcs that are canonically in time after this were already written. There's also from my understanding small contradictions that make it impossible to place anywhere specifically in the timeline without at least some level of inconsistency though even canons have these plot holes since it's not written by kubo and only has suggested elements (like the zanpakto rebellion filler) it's a bit easier to put it in the category of non-canon work that contains some canon events and elements.
tl;dr i'm a big fucking nerd.
@@RadarFinsR yea
i would say the concept are canon like valley of screams
but senna if i remember was hinted to be canon
@@RadarFinsR you're overthinking it. It's fully canon since Ichigo verbatim references that he once was in a valley of screams and this is further reinforced by the fact that he's the only one who remembers those events
As for the timeline it happens between end of SS arc and start of Arrancar arc
@@RadarFinsRI'd recommend you search up DBZimran video on the canonicity of this first Bleach movie.
You should give it a try.
That graveyard scene at the end of the movie always brakes me, even though I know its coming....
The Bleach movies (much like the filler arcs, actually) have a pretty high variance in writing quality, though the action at least is always good.
That said, Hell Verse and ESPECIALLY Memories of Nobody hold very dear places in my heart.
I'm not a very emotional man and never have been. I can count the number of times I've genuinely wept on a hand and a half. Memories of Nobody though, it really touched me.
It is still all these years later, for me at least, one of the most beautiful and melancholy pieces of media that I have ever scene.
Bleach has always and will always be something special to me, but Memories of Nobody sits on a different level entirely.
The only movie I recall outright disliking was Diamond Dust Rebellion. Memories of Nobody is really good, Hellverse is decent enough (though carried more by the intrigue of Hell than anything in the plot), and Fade to Black was good too, even if it felt like a lower quality version of Memories of Nobody.
@@lo4tr Eh....Memories of Nobody sets a high we never reach again
Details from this movie are referenced in both the manga and novels. I love that Kubo appreciated the movie enough to incorporate it into canon
Before I got into Bleach, I remember watching this movie on Toonami one night and I absolutely loved it. It's one of the main reasons why I got into bleach and became my favorite anime movie. What I mostly love about this movie is Ichigo's will to protect. Also Aqua Timez's song at the credits is just amazing and whenever I listen to that song I always think of this movie.
I screamed when i saw the thumbnail!!!!! SOOOOO EXCITED ❤❤❤
I love the 1st movie is so good.
2nd one really is medicore.
Third one rivals the 1st and the
4th one blows it all out of the water
amazing video also i am a memory of nobody
Yeah Memories of Nobody is my all-time favorite Bleach movie and one of my favorite movies in general. Out of all 4 films we got I’d say that is about as high as it gets in terms of story and plot. Makes me wish we could have gotten a 2 to 2 1/2 hour long Bleach movie
I just like how Kubo wanted to make a play on anime movies being non-canon shite so he literally made it part of the plot.
Fun fact: the tybw anime cour1 ending song is by senna rin, she said she was inspired by senna the character from this movie
I cannot stress enough just how Ganryu & his band of clowns were the biggest problem of this movie due to how bland, dumb, & borderline forgettable the way they were written, & I'm glad you pointed it out. Because most people I know that loves this movie almost never addressed/point out this elephant in the room. Also love the way you compare them with Bojack & his team, accurate comparison there. I think Ganryu & his clowns might just be BLEACH's worst antagonist. Heck, as bad as Kariya & the Bounts were, they're still a much more interesting antagonist than these clowns, lmao.
Which is a shame because as you mentioned, Senna, her character-study, & her ending was truly the absolute best part of this movie. This movie can just have Ichigo & Senna spending time with each other for the whole movie without any dumb antagonist and it will still be good, that's how good the emotional beat of this movie was. But of course, this introspective & heartfelt movie has to devolve into a big dumb explosion slope fest about the Gotei 13 beating the crap out of the worst antagonist of the whole series, because it's a mere Shounen-filler movie flick at the end of the day.
It's like they thought it would be too boring if the movie was just about Ichigo helping Senna keeping herself stable & finding her place in the world as the "Shinenju" with minimal help from popular Gotei Captains, I mean I would've watch that...
So a bit of symbolism the ribbon at the end, is not only hers but it also represents her soul in the first bit of the manga its shown that you can find other people with a spirit ribbon and a red ribbon represents a soul reaper, so it could be that she was not real YET but is now. Just my 2 cents.
Probably my fav Bleach movie. And Senna is so good. Made me shed a tear watching this ngl...
This movie was great, I also love the abridged version which reminds me
you should totally watch Bleach Abridged by Project washmouth after you’ve caught up to the ending of the original bleach show
Bleach S by Project Mouthwash is hysterical and I’m so sad more people don’t know about it. But it does spoil huge TYBW stuff so I’d say finish the entire Bleach series first and not just the original show
@@sanddry738 fair
Yeah agree on the fact these mundane stuff often times isn't really explored much . Thats why side stories are necessary, this movie then cfyow vol 1 and wdkaly novels both showcase sides of the story that we don't see much
This move is the most canon Bleach movie with the valleys of screams as a canon place/s, thou It was made canon retrospectively, a funny story. I always liked this movie thou Bleach movies always had bad reception on the launch but I agree with popular opinion that later movies cast their plot a little to wide for comfort.
One extra tidbit is that when Ichigo uses his batch his body literally is dead, he doesnt have a soul in the body
This movie made me big sad when I watched it
I love your "can I keep her" speech because yeah kubo pretty much thought the same thing and she is referenced in the manga and light novels though only mentioned, he liked the idea so much he made her somewhat canon.
this movie is canon, senna mentionned in the novels and Ichigo talks bout the valley of screams in the fullbring arc
BEST GIRL EPISODE 😭😭😭 LES GOOO
Bleach is the best manga to understand the writing and see values in every characters
Idk if you'll see this but I'll explain the canonicity of the movies below:
Movie 1: 100% canon, confirmed by the manga much later.
Movie 2: Non-canon filler.
Movie 3: Non-canon filler.
Movie 4: The plot isn't canon, but the characters and lore is canon to some extent. There is a manga chapter/half-chapter that serves as the prologue of the movie, but the actual events wihin the movie never happened.
Yeah, it's a special Bleach movie... The rest go for more of action epic type of deal. This one hits emotionally quite deep.
i liked that film :)
btw awesome music playlist and editing :3
man i watched this movie long time ago .
& i used to have a strong emotion as rock .
but when i was watching ur video it felt like something from my memory just came to me & started to tear my eyes up
cause back then i was too naive to feel all that emotion back then.
thank u brother
thank u for the review
& from this video there will be a surprise waiting for u in the future of Bleach :)
sorry i cant tell
cause i dont wanna spoil ur fun :)
& i promise u i will give this movie a rewatch :)
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS (I may or may not have cried too ;[ )
I love when you upload! I get to rediscover Bleach through fresh eyes.
the valley of scream is canon
and some people will have this movie headcanon to them
When that Here to Stay soundtrack started I lost it the first time watching this movie. And then I went to learn the song on piano lol
Movie 2 & 3 Are the only ones that are 100% Non Canon They straight up dont fit into the timeline just like the old dbz movies.
Also, pretty sure Hellverse was stated to be in an Alternate Universe.
Senna is the best!
Memories of Nobody is my favorite movie. You're watching Peak Spin-off Content from Bleach.
Fade to Black is a good second, Hellverse 3rd Best and Diamond Dust Rebellion last.
Even if the characters don't remember we remember. RIP Senna
Kubo did keep senna , you will know later 😊
Lol now you’ve officially seen Bleach content I never knew existed
Let’s go!
It’s implied ichigo remembered the events when he saw sennas ribbon floating in the air
Cause people weren't that hyped for first season and stories about sending off different spirits. Most people like Soul Society arc and different fights.
The movies, except for the 4th, have sorta gone into the vade of my memory (due to only doing rereads not rewatches though might end up doing that before last part of TYBW comes out) of just having some of the basics still in my memory so hearing about your thoughts is also a good refresher. Though the thing I remembered is how it at least once like movies for other series allows the MC to show their full emotional range much better than how typical non-manga or non-novel content does (or just brings those traits back into focus like Pokemon does), Ichigo's very human personality in how he isn't focused on some grand verse goal but helping people goes really well with that method letting him truly connect to the movie focus chars and build up scenes like helping the kid in his want to comfort people as they die/fade away including lying for their peace of mind.
I don't care, Memories of Nobody is canon to me, especially when Valley of Screams was mentioned in a latter arc. Plus as per Kubo's interview, a certain character later on was inspired by Senna's design.
It's canon. In the manga Ichigo outrights states he's been to the Valley of Screams before.
Please be aware memories of nobody is the only movie with material that was adapted into the manga and kubo actually liked
Diamond dust rebellion is extremely not canon especially
As someone who plays the Kingdom Hearts games and specifically really likes the entry 358/2, the fact that I essentially got to reexperience that story again with this movie was excruciatingly painful
Also that credits scene with the song was just a spear in the heart after being beaten almost to death from that ending scene of Senna
Definitely my favorite Bleach movie out of the 4 (fade to black was also surprisingly good to me) this movie definitely made me shed a tear or 2 when I first watched it. Also Senna was just a a fun character to watch hanging with Ichigo obviously wish she stuck around and had interactions with Rukia or even Renji. It would be cool to see if Pierrot made one more Bleach movie after tybw based on novels or just whatever they make up
I always remember liking this movie
I love this movie the friendship between ichigo and senna is truly the heart of the movie.
Also thanks to the novel this movie is canon.
No I was waiting for a manga update 😭
Next week! Unfortunately, couldn’t have done both in the same week. Maybe someday 🤞
3:02 I'm not sure whether it's in the manga or not, but in the anime Ichigo performed a konso once in episode 2 or 3 I'm not sure.
i have to ask
how would you tackle the tybw arc
will you read the manga first then watch the anime or just watch the anime
cuz the manga was rushed due to kubo's health
and the anime had a huge change
and being supervised and even taken over by kubo himself
the anime is the true canon now
People often ship Ichigo with Orihime or Rukia or some other chick... but I always shipped Ichigo with Senna. Because to me, Ichigo and Senna have the best chemistry and the best interactions.
And there's no real toxic underlining power dynamic. They treat eachother as equals... and their interactions with eachother is so sweet and realistic and I love it so much. I wished more Bleach ships were this healthy.
This is the only canon movie 😅 , other 3 aren't and this is the best
I THOUGHT YOU SAID WEEKEND NOT FRIDAY!!
This movie is canon actually
Bleach S abriged does a fun job with this movie making fun of the villians not being very well developed.
@@balmung7599yeah that was a good callback
Although the bleach movies are not as good as the original material, I will always have love for them, although my favorite is the "Christmas special" xd
