" Discovered in early 2876, the Diresta Journal has fascinated archaeologists and designers for hundreds of years. Considered by many to be the finest example of pre-dystopian craftsmen, his ideas and methods continue to baffle modern science"
So apparently you made more of these and sold them. My wife bought me one for my birthday and it’s amazing. Love being able to go back and watch the video on how it’s made. Thanks for all you do. Long time fan!!!
A masterpiece and Object of Beauty. What a superb video. Items like this don't belong in the world of today, its all throw away crap and apps for your phone! Thanks for sharing
Priceless work of art! My great grandfather was a book maker in the early 1850s in Scotland. I now have the utmost respect forwhat he did and wish I had one of his. This is truly an art form. The closest I will ever come is wrapping a journal from the dollar tree store with some leather from my old “hippy days” pants! Thank you so much.
This isn't the first book I've seen you make, but I love watching the process. Seriously, it's like watching an episode of "How It's Made" or something. This is something we never really see. Plus these days it's all automated anyway. Thanks for the education, and the amazing project. LOVE it!
Wow, I just learned more about leather work in this video than I have in a few years of messing around in my shop. The shoulder plane to skive the book fold is genius! Thank you!
Great job Mr. Diresta. As a young man I worked at a custom book bindery. They had several mature lady’s that hand bound, and restored, rare and precious book. I use to watch them with admiration for their fine hand work. I swear, you must have been watching these ladies also. Your work is near identical. Thank you for the video and the trip down memory lane.
"My Inventions and Evil Intentions" I could not love the title more! Right now that means the future but, 30 years from now it could also be a look back. Very cool!
I am going to show this to my 10 yr. old granddaughter. She is very interested, but having her see the work going into this and how things get done,is beyond me saying thank you to you for your talents.
Jimmy, I have followed your channel for a long time and you finally showed something I can do other than machining and metalwork, My grandmother did that as a hobby when i was a kid and i got all her presses etc when she passed. Great job and grandma would approve.
That is gorgeous! You made the whole process look so simple and something we can all try - I am inspired! Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your content, craftmanship and skills with us.
So awesome. Your book binding stuff has really inspired me. Based on previous videos I made my wife a hand written book. She was blown away. Thanks for making and sharing. Love the leather incorporation as well. I’d like to made a sleeve for my MacBook that has a pocket that is molded to for the charger block.
You have so many talents. I am mso damn impressed with all you can do! If I had your skills, I would spend 24/7 in a workshop just creating things. I've watched tons of your videos for many years and you always impress me! Keep up the good work, and never stop creating!
Jimmy, thank you for this video. I am recovering from back surgery and can't work in the shop and it has been driving me crazy. Seeing this video reminded me I have what I need to do some bookbinding and scratch that makers itch. Thank you for saving my sanity. That is an awsome book great job on that.
Bravo! Beautiful, Practical & Unique. So lovely to see the linen strips, another gift from our friend the Flax plant, those stunning red swirls of the end covers & all the practical technology making a stunningly attractive repository of knowledge that can last for centuries. More than all of that was the inspiration & instilled certainty that the only thing stopping me from doing something similar is inertia & I need to break free & do things. Thanks for sharing!
The first vid of yours I ever watched was your black leather journal; I looked it up to make a book for my fiance. Happy to say Ive been watching you ever since. Your videos have been a huge inspiration in my life and started me down a road of learning here on TH-cam I am so grateful for. Thanks Jimmy.
The funny thing about Jimmy's projects is that it doesn't look like he will nicely finish them, but in the end everything comes together perfectly. It gives me inspiration to try new projects. Thanks Jimmy.
Well that leaves only one thing left to do. Once I see a video of you making pancakes I will be thoroughly convinced you have done/ can do errrrrrrrthing!!!!! Once again there I was sucked into the void of watching a true artisan at work!!!! Nicely done, yet once again, sir!!!!
I love watching you work. I saw you on ‘Making it” and you make it seem like a person can make anything they want with the right guide/mentor and the drive. Thank you so much for sharing!
In the past I did some binding repairs - poorly. I looked into the field and realized I wasn't ever going to actually do it as a profession and turned away because it extremely difficult and time consuming with some specialized equipment requirements and loads of skill. Thanks Jimmy for showing just the basics.. Great job.
That was cool. I worked in the reference library in college. One of my jobs was binding repair. I worked with what we had on hand. It wasn’t conservation work. I was always fascinated with how books were put together. Over the years I read about it and watched some videos. However this is the best quick overall how it’s made kind of video I have ever seen. You always make great videos! Thanks
I've binge watched most of your vids and this is, by far, the coolest thing you've made (IMO). Well done sir. It's given me ideas for future gifts for friends and family.
Jimmy I just want to say watching your work is just breathtaking, everything you do I enjoy watching you are so talented and I've actually learned a lot from watching you. I very much enjoy your videos, please keep up the great work and have a happy holidays
Thank you for your videos, they are always inspiring and they also help me perform day to day meticulous tasks I'd thought I'd never have to use in the automotive industry. I do miss your old show with your brother making pool tables or oversized chess boards XD
That is a thing of beauty! I’ve been bookbinding for a while and I’ve made quite a few notebooks, even one that was double sided, one that closed with a wraparound cover with rare earth magnets in and I’ve even repaired an old mechanics notebook that was my grandads. Your videos have helped me immensely. I’ll see you again at Makers Central, brother 👊🏼

"Pre-dystopian Craftsman" - now there's a title I could be proud of.
So apparently you made more of these and sold them. My wife bought me one for my birthday and it’s amazing. Love being able to go back and watch the video on how it’s made. Thanks for all you do. Long time fan!!!

The pencil in the mouth trick for tying knots is genius.
No surprise to me that Jimmy would also have lovely handwriting! 😍
He's an artist (among other skills)
The talent this guy has is astonishing. Attending one of his classes is on my short list.
Mr DiResta sir, you are a pure genius. I am hooked on your video's, keep up the great work. Greetings from Ireland ☘🇮🇪
Vintage Diresta. His hands are just a little more gnarled than before.
