    While the volume ducking part of this video is generally good advice - I definitely wouldn't recommend adding the compressor at the end like that, especially on top of a kick and a sub-bass on the same channel - it made the sound LESS impactful because it emphasizes the transients and thus weakens the punch and tail of the sound. - That also has nothing to do with phase issues (the topic of the video).
    Also, you can notice in the waveform (and hear) that the first transient is significantly boosted in volume - this is because it's the first one that the compressor receives, and it doesn't have enough look-ahead time to compensate - so now, not only is the overall sound of the kick and bass less impactful - but it now has an inconsistent transient throughout.
    This tutorial would have been fine without the unneeded addition of the compressor.
    I also think it could have benefited from mentioning that the phase-shifting method only works for tracks like this, where the sub-bass/bass is only playing on one note and rhythm throughout.
    Since all pitch is - is the speed that a sound wave is oscillating (repeating) at - and the "waves" (in this context) are just a representation of this - if you have a regular baseline playing on chords or just a rhythm - the phase is going to be different for each note because the waves are moving at different speeds and at different time intervals, therefore they will have inconsistent phase to one another. - Worth pointing out.

      Thank you for watching the video and a special thank you for taking the time to leave such a valuable comment!
      You're absolutely right, the phase behavior in Waveshaper does change with note changes. This tutorial I provided can be useful for creating kick and bass sounds similar to Hardwell's music, where bass note changes are less frequent.
      Regarding using a compressor on the kick and bass channel, a compressor with a low attack can sometimes be a good fit. However, if the processing of the kick and bass sound is done properly independently, there may not be much need for that compressor.
      Again, thank you for the great comment, it was very valuable to me!

      Yes, exactly. In real life, it’s not possible to eliminate all problems, and the same goes for mixing. We just try to minimize the issues. For tonic chords or creating kick and bigroom basses like in Hardwell’s tracks, you can use this method

    After this process, Sidechaing kick and bass for ducking is not necessary anymore right?

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, that's correct 👏 Once you've followed these steps, you no longer need to run a sidechain effect on the bass track. The sidechaining has already been applied (using the Shaperbox plugin) during these steps.

    You forgot to mention that this will only work with a single note, the moment you change note the phase will be different for every note played. In other words it is a limited option.

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, you're absolutely right, thank you for pointing that out.
      Changing the note and pitch also changes the shape and behavior of the phases.
      This is useful for creating kicks and basses like those in Hardwell's tracks, which feature bigroom kicks and basses with minimal note and pitch changes.
      Thank you for watching the video 🙏

      @@hrmehrfarhmm what if you bounce the working kick/bass together as an audio file and then pitch that up and down 😮😅

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Bittamin Hey there,
      Thanks for the suggestion! While pitching the kick can be an interesting effect in some cases, it's generally not recommended for a few reasons:
      Kick drums typically occupy a very low frequency range, and pitching them up or down can cause them to lose their impact and definition.
      The attack and decay of the kick drum are crucial for its punch and groove. Altering the pitch can significantly affect these transient characteristics, potentially making the kick sound weak or unnatural.
      Kick drums often serve as the rhythmic foundation of a track, and drastically changing their pitch can disrupt the overall groove and timing.

    I love shaperbox, but the usage you’ve shown here is entirely pointless.
    Instead, render both the kick and the bass to samples. Delete all but the first 1/16th of the kick, and remove the first 1/16 of the bass. Add volume fades if you wish. Well done - you have just achieved the exact same effect without the need for a) purchasing a plugin b) having unnecessary plugins in your project using memory, cpu, and introducing excessive latency to two channels - whack shaperbox does excessively.

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The steps you mentioned are also not flawless, they are very time-consuming, and since they require rendering, and since you convert vst and instruments to wave, you cannot change notes during the project.
      There are many ways to achieve the result, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. The existence of one solution does not mean that the rest are worthless.
      Most modern computer can handle the RAM and CPU processing of Shaperbox. In fact, if the project is long, freezing a lightweight instrument like Serum can make the project heavier.
      Thank you for watching the video Sheppo 🙏
