    how to introduce phase to your bass

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there! Introducing phase to your bass can significantly affect its sound. Phase refers to the starting point of a waveform. In **Serum**, you can adjust the phase of oscillators to change how waves interact. 1. In the oscillator section, adjust the Phase knob to set the starting point of the waveform. 2. Use an LFO to modulate the phase over time for more variation. 3. Watch out for phase cancellation, which can weaken your sound. Use phase analysis tools to avoid this. Adjusting phase can add depth and make your bass stand out in the mix!

    Very helpful as usually. But what sort of salt or pepper did you add to the final result, its sounds more vibrant

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so much for watching the video and for your kind comment! I'm glad you found it helpful. For the final result, I used a few key plugins on the master channel to enhance the overall sound. Specifically, I added an imager from Ozone to mono the frequencies below 100 Hz, which helps in tightening the low end. I also applied a bit of EQ using FabFilter Pro-Q3 to balance the frequencies and a limiter (FabFilter Pro-L) to control the dynamics and add some loudness. These subtle adjustments really helped in making the track sound more vibrant and polished. Thanks again for your support and for taking the time to leave feedback!

    it sounds just like the original nice work! i was wondering though, do you think the person who amde this song done it like this or made it with sidechain? there's so so many ways to sidechain that i feel like a few of the original sound would have most likely been achieved through a mixture of sidechains like sub ducking and compression sidechain

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you think it sounds like the original. As for your question, there are indeed many ways to achieve a similar bass sound, and sidechaining is definitely a common technique. It's possible that the original producer used a combination of sub ducking and compression sidechain to get the desired effect. In my tutorial, I focused on one way to recreate the sound, but there are certainly multiple approaches that could work. Thanks for bringing this up! If the mid frequencies of the bass are important to me, I usually use sub ducking to prevent them from being lost due to sidechain compression. This way, the kick and bass don't clash, and the bass remains as impactful as I designed it during sound design. I prefer my designed sound to undergo minimal changes during the mix stage. Also, using a mid bass in many similar tracks can work wonders. Adding a pluck-like sound to the main bass can help maintain that solid, punchy bass character.

  • @onaucc9899
    @onaucc9899 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Nice. One litte thing though: You might want to turn down the "RAND" knob on OSC 1 (or any OSC, really) when you make bass sounds, because the phase starts at a random point otherwise. That makes you run into phasing issues really easily, especially when the bass isn't just off-beat. When it collides with the tail of the kick, you run into (unpredictable) phase cacellations. Also having RAND not at 0 makes it so that the sound sounds a little different each time you trigger it. That can be nice for a little variety, but i personally really hate it when my bass doesn't sound the the same 100% of the time.

    • @Joshh.K
      @Joshh.K 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      i spotted that too, deffo a big thing when trying to recreate, you can hone in quicker! :)

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks a lot for the detailed and technical comment! 🌟 I'll definitely turn off the "RAND" knob so my bass can be both tight and not go bald 😂 It's awesome to have sharp-eared folks like you paying attention to the details. I'll think of you the next time I make a bass! 🎶 I usually turn off RAND, but I forgot in this video! Thanks for watching the video so closely and leaving such a valuable comment!

    what are the little blue stripes above the Regulators at 3:41? the 1st and 2nd at mine are swaped compared to yours

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! The little blue stripes above the regulators at 3:41 are modulation indicators. They show which parameters are being modulated and to what extent. The reason your first and second stripes might be swapped compared to mine could be due to different modulation assignments or routing. Make sure to check your modulation matrix to see how the parameters are assigned. If you're using a different preset or if you've made custom adjustments, that might explain the difference as well. And don't worry if the positions are different from mine; the important thing is that you like the sound you create! Let me know if you need any more help!

    Nice tutorial! Good thing you talked about DC offset.

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful and that the point about DC offset was useful. Removing DC offset is essential when working with wavetables in Serum, as it ensures a cleaner, more balanced waveform. This helps prevent unwanted artifacts and distortion, resulting in a higher quality and more professional sound during your sound design process.

    hi great vids, thanks, one thing with this one, why map the oscillator level to the macro knobs rather than just use the actual level knobs please?

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you like the videos. The reason I map the oscillator level to the macro knobs rather than using the actual level knobs is for flexibility and control. By using the macro knobs, you can control multiple parameters simultaneously, which allows for more dynamic and expressive sound design. It also makes it easier to tweak your sound in real-time during a performance or while producing, without having to manually adjust each individual level knob.

    what about the high end that feels missing? any idea to fix that area? it always sounds like its on a cutoff filter

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your comment! To address the high end that feels missing, you might want to try a few things. First, check if there's a low-pass filter applied to your piano track and adjust or remove it if necessary. You can also try using an EQ to boost the higher frequencies to add more presence and clarity. Additionally, experimenting with different piano samples or plugins might help achieve a more balanced sound. Another tip is to use saturation plugins, which can add warmth and harmonics to your sound, making the high end more pronounced. Let me know if this helps!

      @hrmehrfar 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there! Yes, Phase Plant can do that. Phase Plant is a powerful synthesizer that can be used to create a wide variety of sounds, including sounds that are based on samples. To do this, you can use the Wavetable oscillator and load a sample into it. The sample will then be used to create the waveform of the oscillator.

    At this point, The AI vocal tools make all your hard work pointless. YOu can literally type in vocals, who you want to sing them and in what style. Done.

However, I believe there's still immense value in understanding the intricacies of sound design and the creative process behind it. Combining both traditional techniques and AI tools can lead to even more innovative and unique results. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Bro, I made the same synth in Bitwig Studio in 3 sec without Serum.

    • @hrmehrfar
      @hrmehrfar 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, Thanks for your comment! While it's true that creating sounds in a sampler can be quicker, there are several key advantages to using a wavetable synth like Serum for sound design: Serum provides extensive modulation options, including multiple LFOs, envelopes, and a matrix for routing. This allows for highly dynamic and evolving sounds that are difficult to achieve with a basic sampler. In Serum, you can manipulate the wavetable at a very granular level, morphing between waveforms and applying a variety of effects directly to the wavetable. This kind of detailed control is not possible with most samplers. Serum allows for precise control over pitch, processing each waveform individually. This ensures that the final sound remains in tune and maintains high-quality pitch integrity. In contrast, basic samplers may not handle pitch changes as accurately, leading to potential tuning issues.
