    “Gly”: You know me by now, had this been an 1800’s mine I probably would’ve dug that out and added some bracing but it all boils down to risk vs reward. Documenting 1930’s and 40’s artifacts just isn’t worth that level of risk in my opinion and crawling past a potential collapse on my belly instead of my feet made it that much more dangerous. I don’t want to end up like the “feeling a little flat” guy in the movie Beetlejuice for some 1940’s tin cans. Lol

    5:26 Winch drum assembly. Right bottom is a sheet metal bottom cover to an engine bell housing. That perforated strap center is for the brake band. The facings are gone. They used the truck clutch for IN and let the brake band slip for OUT. 8:14 A truck frame and engine. The winch drum assembly outside resided there and was driven from the Overhead Valve engine. 8:43 The elevated barrels at the rear were the cooling system. They were placed higher than the engine making it a "Thermo-siphon" system where the hot water went to the top and the unusual dual water pumps were fed from cooler water at the bottom. 9:34 the numbers 10-35 might mean October 1935 possibly? 10:29 Primitive tree logs used for shoring. Notice at the top are notches to help prevent shifting. Almost like square set timbers, just a lot cruder. 11:41 The track ties are the same primitive wood as the shoring. They are placed wide apart, meaning possibly smaller mine cart loads? 11:43 Notice the wood posts driven into the ground at the cross-tie ends. They are to hold the tracks center of the adit while bending around the curves. Gly: Didn't mean to be so wordy, but it reminds me of my Uncle's gold mine I worked in as a kid.

      Thank you sir for your in depth observations. I'm amazed at what "billy goat" miners come up with to make their mining operation "work". We too came up with the darndest contraptions to sluice our placer gold claim. The claim had no water runing to it or through it. We worked from a tarped, holding pond of water brought in by large water tanks and used a fire hose pressured by a circulating engine as our grizzly and then separating sluice. We called it "the master blaster". Slow process but it worked. Ha, ha. (sold the gold and grew the operation as we went).

    GLY!! All I did today was walk a mile and my body hurts from past damages!
    On the one cardboard box you looked at, there was a date code of 10-35, which was the 10th week of 1935, or actual October of 35. And the Texaco crater compound 1 lube was for open gear and wire rope use, so it's no wonder the carton was there!
    When you were holding the camera in the collapse, I cold see a lot of "NOPE!", I'm glad you said the same!

Extra detail to us, so we understand the challenges these miners went to make such a hard life somewhat simple. Gly you were blessed with some unique artifacts. A super duper view is right about the old wooden frame inside. By observation it looked to dangerous even for Gly . Very unstable. Glad u chose safety over adventure this time. Well done. Excellent video. Looking forward to the future video. Short and sweet has its rewards too. Thank u .

    As soon as you walked into that mine , well, past the truck frame, because I was totally looking over the Truck frame and various other bits that was in the beginning, but after you walked past that door I suddenly realized that you were in a Placer mine! I even said it out loud, "That's a Placer Mine!" I knew right away that it was going to end very quickly because of the title and knowing how inherently unstable Placer mines really are. Sure enough it didn't take long for you to see the seriously dangerous overhead collapses that threatened to squeeze the filling out of "Gly the mine explorer guy"! I've seen other explorers go into placer mines that are not only as collapsed as this one but also filled to mid-thigh with water that is falling from all over the mine, it was like seeing them walk into a river filtering through a giant mountain of gravel with tunnels in it. But I'm so relieved to see you pull the plug on this one Gly because I don't want to feel the anxiety of watching you risk your life for some footage, and Even if it was an 1800's mine I would much rather you pull the plug because no footage is worth you life!!!! Dang PLacer mines are truly serious death traps, I can only imagine the trouble those men had digging out the addit. I mean the stuff would be easy to dig through, but terrible for wanting to collapse on top of you. And one thing I have noted in placer mines is that they deliberately dig the addits and haulage tunnels small to make them less likely to collapse on them! that is why you were complaining about how short those miners were earlier. LOL Yeah, Placer mines are Scary as heck for me, I have too vivid and realistic imagination to be comfortable even watching people explore them. Keep up the good work Gly, You make us proud with your self preservation and lines that you will not cross. because I have seen some serious tomfoolery from people who should know much better than to go into the places I've seen them go into! Have a good week, and I hope you have better luck next trip!!!

But to be under the mountain is on a whole new level... great lesson for all your viewers. I have turned back on the mountains many times, even if it meant a few hours of descent after sunset. Hey Gly, would it make any sense to have a little dirt bike rigged up on the back of Bob? Or maybe a Honda Grom w/ some knobby tires? Only reason i mention that one in particular is its excellent on gas, quiet if you leave the exhaust alone, and very light. The one i had was actually jumpable, caught a solid 5 ft on a regular basis w/ it so they are robust too. Itd be easy to load/unload, just make something or buy something that sticks in the receiver to carry it around. I dont think itd take away from the videos at all if you used something like that to zip up the mountains lol

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      “Gly”: Well, Bobs suspension is already maxed out with the gear I’m already carrying inside. Unfortunately, even if you were to have a small dirt bike the roads and trails to many of these mines are completely washed out and impassable. Most of the time the only way to get to the mine and it’s portal is to hike overland up the side of a hill or up the waste rock pile and that would be near impossible to do even on a bike because of all the loose material. Oh, and let’s not forget all the camera gear you’d have to lash on to the bike so your hands are free to ride it. I can think of maybe two or three scenarios in the past where something like that would be feasible but most of the time you’d just be hauling around the dead weight.

Also i know you dont put much if any stock into the paranormal occurances that others talk about in mines but at 9:50 there is something strange. Not only a sound that sounds like either a gust of air or even dare i say a growl and out in the edge of the dark a small light appears makes a turn and takes off into the darkness ahead of you. You were wise to stop and turn around. I'm glad you listened to your "gut." I wonder how that engine and frame were moved into position? Were they carried by miners, one piece at a time and then reassembled? Vurry interesting find, Sir!

    I always find it impressive, some of the massive pieces of machinery they manage to get into some of these mines. May be a crusty pile of scrap now, still pretty cool to see. Looking forward to next weekends video. Have a great and safe week.

    So glad the choice you made. The use of a former truck to power the equipment was risky. I can tell you this, I am glad you choose to bring me along today. Thank you for all you do.

    Gly I agree with you 100%, no way going under that pile, you would never get out of that. Hey those truck an car frames may be worth thousands Gly, wish you would check what makes they are, the one out side looked to be a 32 Ford, if it was it would put gas in old Bob for a year. I'm not positive but that may have been an old Packard in the mine. That old Mercury drum needs to be saved, not many around and I think there was another in the back. Well another week until some more or some more Gly SHORTS. 😱😁😁👍👍👍👍👍♥️🇺🇸

    Neat mine and interesting rock in there. People are so innovative when getting things together for and operation. Boy what a cluster rock mess there. So glad u didn't let a barking spider out. One blast and rock would have come down. Wise decision there Gly. Your recon missions are so fantastic. Hugs and cuddles.

    Good call on the collapse. To many other mines to explore so no need to risk your life on that one. Love the drone and the music you play while flying it. Trying to catch up on your old videos. Just subscribed a few weeks ago.

    9:30 Hrmm... the Texaco box might be 1935, and that sorts with the candy company... I find references with it at that address in 1924 and 1942-44.
