Will AI replace animators?

  • Neural networks that can create original videos already exist. And although they are not yet able to replace cinematographers or animators completely, they are already making progress in this direction. Will Artificial Intelligence ever be able to replace animators? And are you able to tell which picture was painted by a living person, and which by artificial intelligence?

I think that people who don't actually make art and can only view art through a lense of what can make more and fast money don't get art anyway. Price tags determine value in their eyes, and art just can't and shouldn't be limited to that

I happen to use AI to get inspiration for my art or to portray a character that only exists in my head. With adequate inspiration and reference images, I can translate what I like from what an AI has made to a full piece. It’s been a nice tool, but I don’t think an AI can fully replace artists in the world. People notice the organic imperfections in a piece unconsciously, and anything that is deemed “too perfect” is strange and foreign. The imperfections make art art, and I have yet to be proven otherwise.

My prediction is that one day humanty will face palm themself. "We finally figured the ai out, the best way to communicate visally is fucking drawing."
I don't think promt to image will ever get to this point. Language is too vague and complex. And ai just dosen't have a system to modell what things are and how they function. Nor have the inelligence to fill the gap with artistic execution.
But image to image could be a game changer for drawn animation.
If you can just draw a basic shape, and do a keyframe animation and get a 60fps video with whatever handdrawn style you want, every artists will turns into a stuido by themself. Handrawn animation could be as flexible as vector and 3d animation in the future.

(This argument does not take into account the ethics of dataset collection.)
The whole point of art is not dedication to the craft for the craft's sake, but to make things that can make people's lives a bit better. AI can be, if nothing else, a good way to brainstorm and quickly get ideas down on paper.
And some people seem to be under the impression that making something using AI means just typing in a prompt of "uh make good movie or something" and presenting whatever the machine produces as though you worked so hard to make it.
Instead, I picture some little boy getting an idea for his own cartoon, going up to his room, having an art generator produce a few rough concepts for him to choose from and further refine. Then he puts the finished concepts for the characters into some animation software to give them different poses and movements.
He uses ChatGPT, not to just write the story for him, but to resolve the plot, brainstorm ideas, and show him ways that he could further refine it.
And even if it was just as easy as entering a prompt describing the video, if the end result is still a good video, where is the problem?
What? Did you think that the value in art was not from the art itself and people's enjoyment of it, but from the bragging rights of the person who made it?
It just makes me a bit sick that we have a technology that allows people to freely explore creative expression, and the "real artists" are shouting them down and insisting that the method that they have trained to do things is the only method to make anything that people should enjoy as "real art".

A lot of these comments are just trash. Sad times when “artists” gatekeep the ability to bring something into reality only if it’s done by conventional means. • @cryingwatercolours8127

gatekeep? no. you have drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, filmmaking, makeup, knitting, crochet, collaging, photoshop, a hundred different ways and tools to make visual art. none of them replace art, they are just another method of creating it.
you can do any of them at any skill level and learn and improve over time. others will inspire you and you’ll inspire them.
ai teaches you nothing. it can be used as a tool, sometimes you can get a good composition or colour palette. but most of the time it’s just replicating someone else’s are. you aren’t making art, a machine is copying someone else’s. it’s not gatekeeping who can make art if you’re not even making it.

I think replacement actually depends on how ppl are going to accept it. Like when it comes to an art created by human there's creativity, emotions and sentiments which AI will never be able to replicate. But if AI is used abundantly then arts by AI are going to be the cheaper alternatives to real arts produced by real humans cuz minimal effort is given here to generate the art. So it totally depends on how ppl receive it. If u r going to look for a cheaper alternative AI it is; just like how plastic is cheaper than steels and woods and ppl accept plastic without any hesitation in spite of it being harmful for the whole ecological system.

20 years from now, people will laugh about AI being bad for artists in much the same way. My problem with drawing is... time. I'm planning on making a card series and using AI just to get the body positions of a character and then I'd hand draw the image while adding the clothes, hair, etc. (not tracing or copy and pasting anything).
I've taught art to kids and told them to place the image to the side and try their best to copy what they see, but never trace. Like using the grid technique, for example. They seem way more excited knowing THEY drew it rather than using AI to create it.
