Keith I'm glad you didn't Whack him. You have the Christmas Spirit. Awesome fundamentals. We need a Gazillions guys like you to show the way to bypass Dealerships. Talking from a Ford mechanic in 1981. First year for the Escort last year for the Pinto. Yeah old. Lol
Keith ❤️️ how you are so willing to share your knowledge. Not only is it your willingness to teach hopefully it will inspire that tech to follow the example you set. Great job.
Keith u never cease to amaze me man.. I'm still working on my Theory far as Powers, Grounds, and Control side switching goes.. I was thrown off some when u sent power or what I thought would be sending power to that PCM would fry for it sure.. What am I missing is this why the car was on engine off and also is a capable scan tool needed to preform this test.. Thank u for sharing brother
Hey! You found one that wants to learn! 😎 So THAT'S what that self-test does - wasn't really sure if it kicked EVERYTHING on at the same time. Now I know! Love that instant verification of the EGR, wiring, and the solenoid just by grounding the pin through a test light. I remember the first time I did something like this a couple years back and got a reaction, I freaked out - thought I cooked something, HAHAHA! Took me a while, but now I'm starting to understand this stuff - test light is just substituting a ground that the computer SHOULD be providing. Pretty simple once I understood what was happening! 😎 Thanks for the AWESOME videos Keith! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! 🍻
I KNEW THAT ONE!!!! I kept seeing the wire tap, and thought immediately, that you have already checked that wire to the pcm, and were gonna show corrosion or something in the connector. But, I was right there with you, and followed along like I had read that book before!! Knowing the circuit design. Knowing the standard wire color scheme of the maker. Knowing how to verify the usage of the wires involved!! Helped you whiz right thru that one, and teach a new tech learning the trade! I'm catching on, little by little, Keith!! And you did it all without having to pull out four different computers, and reprogramming the tread pattern of the snow tires!! Lol
Great lesson there Keith... Almost died when you told that guy ..Don't stab that wire Hahahaha... It's all for the greater good. :) :) :) From the looks of it ,pcm has already been replaced and i'm not surprise if is a doorman..
Hmmm. Just to be sure I think I would have energized the solenoid circuit at your cable piercing probe just to confirm the pierced connection to the wire and the wire to the solenoid is good. Just that last check before you blow the bundle on a PCM.Also you didn't say how you knew for sure that that solenoid circuit in particular was supposed to power up when the key is turned on (like the others). I assume from experience?
I explained later in the video that I summarized the driver failure kept the valve (original) on and eventually gave out by the time I was able to get to the vehicle. The shop had the vehicle for nearly a week before I got there
I have a 2006 ford explorer with the code p0443 purge evaporation circuit fault, the question is if this fault is related to what the EGR valve code p0403 appears, if I change the purge valve, will the two codes disappear?
Cheers Keith great tip on using KOEO test on scan tool to check circuit integrity and the a crème de la crème was the noid light, Merry Christmas, Sandy
My experience ha been that the PCM is rarely faulty all though you have proven it in this case. Keith, would you agree that the PCM is rarely at fault ?
Jesus l laughed! We'll just check for power. Guy goes to destroy the insulation with a blunt test light. WOAH, WOAH WOAH from keith. T pin slides right in. Lol
When switching the test light from battery negative to battery positive do you need to know what type of circuit you have i.e power or ground side switched?
Ok 3 things. i do that exact same mod to all my test lights! Lol I knew something was up with the pamona hanging off that loom haha and did they replace the solenoid before you got called in? Just curious. I've been studying transistor drivers and mosfet drivers so I'm extremely curious about your trick!
Dear friend I have question for you I receive 2004 jeep liberty 3.7 and been in to different mechanic shop and they change O2 sensor bank 1 an All spark plugs and keeping adding too much fuel in bank 1 driver side code 171 and 300 can you help please
We must be clear. A p0171 is NOT an oxygen sensor code. I hear this mistake all the time. It is just a lean code. Now most importantly, when is it lean? At idle ? Under load ?
Is it possible the solenoid has a partial short causing high current through the solenoid and causing the driver to fail? Would it be wise to ohm out the solenoid in this case?
31 ohms 😉. Don't always have the luxury of showing everything on camera, when I had gotten there he had just unbolted the solenoid for that exact test . Now that was great thinking on your part 😊👍, so far you were the only one who mentioned it .
I know it's good practice not to puncture a wire when it all possible but I kind of find it a little ironic that after telling him not to poke a hole in the connector wire but then you have that ECM wire poked with your probe tool Keith, what's up with that?
I barely break through the insulation when using the piercing probes . Stabbing with a test light or PP 😱🤢.. the light insulation pierce is easily remedied afterward using liquid tape. However using a broad tip you will almost certainly damage a few strands of wire and leave a gaping wound on the insulation.
Have you ever seen a bulb, where you smack it and all of a sudden it starts working again? Either a bad connection or filament has intermittent connection. Well, anything electrical can have the similar faults.. in my experience
Actually it's the way I worded it. What I should have said was it was stuck on when driver started to fail and has since had the driver let go completely due to it being on steadily instead of being pwm
I have towncar lincoln 2004 the iformation display in cluster not working and speed gauge not working Information screen like this - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i change ecm and cluster no thing happen
Does anybody know his contact information? I’m having trouble diagnosing a car and I was wondering if he could help me. I have a shop in nyc and I was wondering if I could pay him to diagnose the car.
Keith

You are amazing with troubleshooting . I would work for free to learn how to diagnose vehicles as long as you are my mentor..👍👍

Awesome lesson there, Keith! And good on that tech for wanting to learn!
Experiencing the same problems p0403 and p0443. Thanks for sharing

I use KOEO alot actually 👍
Great video loving this u tube channel world class tech tips for free fantastic .
Hi Keith i'm glad to see that you're using using the Launch X431 Scan Tool on a regularly

YOUR POWERS ARE VERY IMPRESSIVE MASTER , COULD I EVER ACHIEVE THESE HIGHTS MASTER .
Absolutely love your videos, Thank you you sharing and teaching!! have a merry christmas!!!!
Yes, merry Christmas and blessings in Jesus Christ my online teacher

Yes , and until the whole wiring diagram debacle is settled I was unable to show it. But you can see on www.bbbind.com for free
Great video and teaching episode. Almost a Cecil b Demille epic for you.
That's how I become a good mechanic by learning from the best
So how was the valve stuck open if the pcm didn’t ground it koeo test.
I explained later in the video that I summarized the driver failure kept the valve (original) on and eventually gave out by the time I was able to get to the vehicle. The shop had the vehicle for nearly a week before I got there

Did u get this fixed yet?
Great job. With you lived closer to me.
Nice. Can you tear these Ford PCMs apart and solder in new transistor Drivers Keith? ;)
Actually, I may have to do that. Dealer list is 2,000 smackaroons!!!!
dang that's like the blue book value for the truck...all for a silly EGR problem!!
Hai Keith I think you can try just open ecm cover and clean the board should turn it back to life again without replacing it..... Try it once
Cleaning a mosfet will not possibly make it work my friend
Cheers Keith great tip on using KOEO test on scan tool to check circuit integrity and the a crème de la crème was the noid light, Merry Christmas, Sandy
Great video. I almost died 🤣 when you told him to not stab the wire . 👍
The mech a nic oh god yes I figured something like that was coming! I was starting to cranes myself.
Title says your diagnosing p0443(evap purge valve) but your clearly scanning a p0403(egr valve)
Great job Keith
My experience ha been that the PCM is rarely faulty all though you have proven it in this case. Keith, would you agree that the PCM is rarely at fault ?
I would definitely agree with that! Many of the diagnostic jobs I do are to verify that the pcm is indeed NOT at fault.
This is Staten Island, the Bermuda Triangle of automotive problems. Lots of bad PCMs out there ;)
If the car manufacturer puts the PCM behind the glove box where it should be then it's rarely a problem.
Ivan would have had that wiring harness ripped out, laying on the floor looking for an ugly wire. Good find NLA.
Hi I have my mazda it can start
Jesus l laughed!
We'll just check for power.
Guy goes to destroy the insulation with a blunt test light.
WOAH, WOAH WOAH from keith. T pin slides right in.
Lol
could u have done the testing w bi-directional control of egr vs koeo test?
Yes but pulse width modulated and more buttons to keep pressing 😁. I like koeo test to see that the code returns as well just in case
You telling the other tech not to poke the wire is like telling a kid not to put a knife in an electrical outlet 😂.
When switching the test light from battery negative to battery positive do you need to know what type of circuit you have i.e power or ground side switched?
I like that koeo pid test on the scan tool.
is that like the same as actuating the asd relay for a dodge/Chrysler?
Very similar yes
Mine is P0443 and I've changed the Purge Valve yet the misfire persists
Merry Christmas ! See you in 2019..
What your method to resealing pierced wires?
Liquid electric tape
Good approach. Thanks for the videos.
Thank you Keith. Good job.
Keith the lunch your using does it have the same functions as the diagun,by the way great video ,your the man
David Da silva I didn’t see him eat lunch 🤣🙈
Exactly the same as Diagun
mmmmm lunch :)
Keith, I said the same thing when he almost stabbed the wire with the test light 😂
Wow u make it look so easy
So I’m trying to order this part what is the name of the exact part
love the self test ford built in
Ok 3 things. i do that exact same mod to all my test lights! Lol I knew something was up with the pamona hanging off that loom haha and did they replace the solenoid before you got called in? Just curious. I've been studying transistor drivers and mosfet drivers so I'm extremely curious about your trick!
Surprised you didn’t check amperage on the valve
Resistance was checked by the shop prior to my arrival 28 ohms . So long ago I had to check the invoice 😆
The Master & his Apprentice! 👍

Try an oem O2 sensor
Check for vacuum leaks. Look at fuel trims when rpm are raised. If it draws closer to 0% with high rpm you may have vaccum leak
We must be clear. A p0171 is NOT an oxygen sensor code. I hear this mistake all the time. It is just a lean code. Now most importantly, when is it lean? At idle ? Under load ?
Scanner danner is secretly enjoying this one lol

You rarely see a Ford with a bad driver in the PCM 😂
no they are usually behind the wheel lol
richard cranium lol

Can I work for you ? I really want to learn from you
Just wondering what state represent on the launch scanner
Not sure I understand the question , sorry
Awesome video. How often do you actually see a bad PCM like that?
Not too many for this failure
Excellent job
What model launch is that??
Pad pro
I was hoping for more Autel usage. (Kidding!)
😂
Great lesson. Thanks!
for me in EGR solo always light is on
You're a good man, Keith. Always willing to teach even in the middle of a diag. By the way, Which model Launch was that? Looks like a nice tool.
Pad Pro . I have 2 because I love it so much 😊
I got one joe. It's bad ass
@@NewLevelAutoIs the Diagun pretty close?
@@billrimmer5596 all the same software
Can I have one too? xD
SWEEET VID 🚹, 👍 👍
Sometimes sticks on and sometimes sticks off? I'm not a pro, but it seems that a burned out transistor (driver) would be consistently off.
Have you ever seen a bulb, where you smack it and all of a sudden it starts working again? Either a bad connection or filament has intermittent connection. Well, anything electrical can have the similar faults.. in my experience

@@NewLevelAuto more like a woman ya turn them on great but when they get turned off it never works right again lol
Good lesson
I see red and white and think mmm...candy canes.

First time in a Video Keith got a little louder ;)
At 2:52 😂

Onboardtech@yahoo.com
👍 👍
read ol comment on 2010 town n country elec solved taking pcm apart n cleaning debre on circuits.....mmmmmm
Thanks Keith!!
Oh yeah, FIRST!! Just in case no one else or everyone else, says it!! ;-P
Ha I sure know they were upset they had to buy another computer just to get a car to pass emissions
any body take pcm apart n look for crap on circuit board. one guy solved prob in 2010 town n country by doing that
First 👍
Call up ivan for the ecm autopsy
Send it over I got some spare transistors in stock ;)
I would have wacked him in the face if he would have pierce the wire with the test light. Hate seeing stuff like dat.
