"Vintage chainsaws are much better than the new ones". And no truer words have been spoken. Thanks for the video.

That mac sounds beefy. Just got done doing the same thing round my property using a power mac 6 and homelite xl 2. Beats the hell out of using my husky 385 for this type of work. I Love firing up vintage saws and giving them a workout.

The power Mac 6 is supposed to be better than the Mini Mac,s. I will do a comparison sometime down the road, after I get my Mac 6 operational. I sure dont miss any of the modern saws that I have owned and used, the old ones just work better.

Would love to see a comparison. Bought my pm 6 for 40$ came with original 14inch bar two chains original carrying case and original owners manual. Its dated 1969. It just needed some TLC and it runs great.

@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 The PM 6 is not the easiest saw to work on. If you could do a video of your repair it would be fun to watch. Thanks

This past Sunday a church member who is moving out of the area ask us to stop by on our way home. He gave me a real clean Mini Mac. I don’t know just what it needs but hope to get it going.

    • @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156

The main problem is fuel related, and the damage done by the bad fuel we have today. The Mini Macs are hard to work on, so be careful and take your time to take it apart without damaging anything. They are finicky about air temperature, and you should always keep a small screwdriver handy to adjust the carb. You will go through a learning process to deal with the idiosincrisees of the saw, but once mastered, you will have a real tree eater.

👍 that old lawn tractor- When did you put the hit and miss engine in it! Low idle and grunting up the hill!

That old cast iron Briggs is a really great old motor, lugs right down, idles very slow. The new engines cant match the performance and all around useability.

I was given a mini mac 35 that would not start. Once I got the MDC Walbro carburetor apart, I found the metering lever mangled beyond repair. Any ideas where I can find one?

  • @johnclarke6647

I don’t think that 35 MAC as any more powerful than my Poulan S25 DA. It is 38 Cc and a top handle saw. I use it for limbing from time to time and it will fly through 12 inch stuff or less. It is a pro saw, solid metal made in 1985. It is a reed valve saw. It is the yellow Super 25 and not those green pos. It has a 16 inch Poulan bar and 91 series chain on it. I used to tote it on the tractor with me to velar roads and fence lines on the farm. It is both manual and automatic oiler. A rugged little saw. I don’t use it to muck up 24 inch rounds but I will use it to cut limbs, small trees and such.

The Poulan 25,s that I have are the POS models. The one craftsman that I have is 38 cc,s and has manual and auto oiling and Oregon Power Sharp. My Mini Mac still out performs it. The problem with the Mini Mac,s are that they are finicky and hard to work on, but the light weight and power are the saving graces.

@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Mine is not a POS. It cost about three bills thirty years ago. It is the Pro model. I have thought about building one of the Farmertec 200 kits, but haven’t, yet. If I need a light saw to do some light pruning I grab my Stihl 181 or 241CM. Most of my saws are of the big variety. What I do not want is a battery operated saw. Even my pole saw is gas powered. I am old school, as you can tell.

@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 MACs are good saws. I have a 32-16 but I don’t know if it will output my Super 25. My Super 25 is a Shreveport saw and not that junk Husqvarna markets as Poulan. I put a new Oregon chain on my 32-16 when I got it. I would pick up a Mimi Mite if I could find one at a descent price. I got a 120 given to me but it is frozen up and I have not found time to tear it down and fix it. I just got through completely rebuilding an HS 45 hedge trimmer and it is the next project in line to be fixed. There is only so many hours in a day. To work on things. I still need to remove the base gasket from my ms 460 to get the squish somewhere near factory settings. The damn thing likes to beat me to death, otherwise.

several people have commented about how good the small pro Poulans were, but have never even seen one or used one. Poulans were a very small seller here in the PNW, as McCulloch and Homelite ruled the market for years. I have a Beard-Poulan 361 that might be savable, but that is a way down the road project. The 361,s have a good reputation though.@@johnclarke6647

@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 they were the number 1 seller, since they were made in Shreveport, LA. They had a good dealers and service, too. All I had from the 70”s to the 90”s was Poulan. My favorite was the 360 and 395, followed my my 3400 Bow saw. They cranked every time and cut through most everything I wanted to cut. I generally cut 2 foot or bigger Water Oak for my wood stove or fireplace. I had not even heard of Husqvarna or Homelite. They did not have a strong dealer network in the South. Stih was around, but like today, price themselves out of the user market, at least for us, po boys.

New bars are readily available on ebay, and arent very expensive. Determine if you have 1/4" chain or 3/8" chain before buying. If the saw is smoking, either the carb neds work or the gas oil mix is wrong.
