    I have one, it cuts as good as my old H266xp @ 1k higher rpm, you don’t need decomp on anything less than 60cc, find some ether with light oil at an outboard shop.

      I must be spoiled, as all my midsize saws from 51 to 60cc's are all much easier to pull through and start than my 034. Stihl finally figured it out and put a decompression valve on the 034 super. The 034 would have been a much better saw with a purge valve for the fuel system and a decompression valve.

    You have some sweet old stuff for sure! My buddy calls the other day and says i want to get a standing dead Doug fir but it's leaning bad the opposite way it needs to go! I told him ill bring a bottle jack and we will jack it over. Well we jacked and jacked but other trees were holding the branches so it wouldn't fall. So he climbed it far as he could and put a cable around it. We ended up with about 75ft of cable so it would reach the road and pulled it over! We had to block and tackle it out to the road but we both got a good load out of it! Fun stuff see ya next time!

    I cut up a dead pine that fell in my back yard with my MS 170, 180 and 171. It was 24” at the base. They plowed right through it. I had to roll some of it over to finish the cut because their 16” bars old not cut all the way through it, but it was better than getting them in the sand. It was about 100’ tall, so it took several days for me to cut it up.

    My grandfather had a sheller mounted in the barn at the bottom hogs got the empty cobs and the shelled.ifarm. I cranked it a few times. Just corn to the chickens, drop corn went to the chickens, horses the ear into it and turn the crank. The empty ear came out the side and the corn came out into a bucket. It was a lot faster than shelling it by hand. Grandpa had it mounted to a shelf in the barn. The cobs went to the pigs and the shelled corn to the chickens, crowns, horses and mules.

    My late friend, Mr. Floyd Daniel, of Madison, GA was an expert on those hit and Miss engines. Floyd showed me his collection some 30 years ago, including a demonstration how they worked. He lived right next to my father in Madison. He had a bunch of them and they had all been restored to like new condition. Since I did not know a lot about Hit and Miss engines - I did a lot of nodding and replying “yes” a lot of the time. Compared to the engines that I was used to - these engines were ancient.

    I will disagree with some. Even the Chinese junk has better steel in it, than steel from a century ago. It is just the workmanship in it that is the question.

    • @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156
      @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      After working on modern Chinese junk and vintage iron, the vintage stuff is so much better. For instance, trying to machine a steel shaft made in modern China, one will find soft and hard spots which damages the cutting tools, while machining old American made steel, it cuts smooth and easy, so I know from experience that modern China stuff is crapola by comparison.

    The adjustment is made based upon “ the rule of thumb. The miller would put some of the ground meal between his thumb and fore finger and rub it together. If it was to coarse, he would adjust the grinder inward until he got the size meal he wanted. If it was like flour, he would adjust it outward until it felt like corn meal. This saying originated in flour mills of England, wind or water driven.

    I own two 030AV, Two 031, and two 034 stihl chainsaws. And you are very good my friend! One of the 034 i have has been ran until the flywheel started making a trench around the flywheel due to the bearing and seal is so washed out! I show people what happens when you don't replace worn out parts and you keep running it. I can't believe it ran with a air leak as bad as it was! I always ask guys who think stihl is the only thing worth buying, have you ever worked on a stihl? I think they are an over priced plastic piece of crap that has become the throw away models! They won't work on any of them if you take them to a stihl dealership, enstead they will do everything possible to sell you a new one and convince you that it's cheaper to just buy a new one from them, scandalous bastards if you ask me! I have about five Sachs-Dolmar saws that I think were better pieces for a saw made in Germany.

    • @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156
      @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Stihl has certainly done a good job of fooling buyers into thinking that their products are the best, but in reality they are some of the worst. Long term parts availability is not available, and parts prices are idiotic. In many cases, they are hard to work on and require a bunch of specialized tools to repair them. No new Stihl products will ever show up here on the homestead. I have never had a Sachs-Dolmar saw, but those that have them say they are excellent.

Then, I ENLARGED IT TO 3/16 and then 1/4 and lastly 5/16. I then used s 45 degree countersink bit to enlarge both sides and clean up the holes. I the put an 18” piece of paracord through the hole and tied an over hand knot in the end. I did put some DANISH oil in the new hole, first, with a Q tip.

Just grabbing the starter chord and yanking wears them out quickly.

It was about $13 with tax. They are now made in Brazil. I am going to pick up a new bastard file from Ace the next chance I get. It will be a Nicholson file, too. Maybe the Brazilian files are better than the Mexican ones.

      My Flowtron splitter was possibly the first commercially made hydraulic splitter sold to the general public. They also had an electric motor powered one as well, that had the feature of being able to split in both directions, way ahead of it's time. Although the components in my splitter are high quality, I think they made it low to the ground to keep costs down. Your idea of having one that sits up higher has merit, and I would recommend that feature, as it is much easier to get the wood to the splitter. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      The Flowtron splitter is a 1983 model, and you will notice no oil smoke upon starting the engine. STP is the reason these old engines run forever.

    Great to have especially for those nasty pieces. Splitting those manually would be a chore.

    Looks like a great little splitter. The Briggs classic is one of the best engines in my opinion.

      The Flowtron splitter does a great job for such a small machine. The old flat head Briggs engines last and last if maintained properly.

    Don't get me wrong I love splitting wood 🪵 by hand. Gets the heart going but I love my wood 🪵 splitter just as much. I bought mine at one of the big box stores. Probably over 15 years old now. It has a Briggs motor and still runs good.....great video Mr Obsolete.....👍🤙

      I like splitting wood with my axes too, and use them for splitting straight grain wood. The tough wood gets the hydraulic splitter treatment.
