Vojvodina, by the way has nothing to do with Serbia.
Even the Catholic Church on the main square in Novi Sad proves that.
Orthodox Serbs came as refugees to Vojvodina, part of Austrian empire back then.
After I WW Serbs occupied the province, and after II WW more then 500 000 ethnic Germans, Donau Schwaben were expelled, many Hungarians, Croatians also. In their houses Serbs were settled.

nicevu2303 Ha, excactly, and that’s actually why they were “struggling to keep Ex Yu”. Money from Croatia, Slovenia was flowing to central federal bank in Belgrade. That’s the past now, today Croatia is not the best, but it is separate and independent. However they still didn’t give up on Monte Negro, although it’s a independent state now. They would like to “take care”of their money that comes from tourism.
Saying this, I really have no bad thoughts about Serbia or people there.

Hey Gabriel. I have been renting my german friend's farm house 27km from Backa Palanka. In Backo Novo Selo. A small village on the danube. Used to be a german village called Neudorf. We could have shown you fishermans life here. My friend hss 22 animals. I was surprised you crossed border without a negative covid test within 48 hours. As of August 15 it was required for any traveler coming from Croatia. You got lucky! I think most car travelers do not use that border so maybe border police not up to date. I remember cycling over thst bridge in October 2018. You passed on the bridge the blue cycling map along danube for Serbia. The Eurovelo 6 cycling route starts in France and ends at Black Sea in Romania. Serbia was the best for me. Most well signed and cyclist friendly. Even most signs with kilometers to next town has a nice saying on it. When you see them read them. I know you want to rent a car but I highly recommend you get a bicycle with a rear rack and basket and follow the cycling route to Negotin or stop where you want. Cycling the gorge was stunning. The only part not so fun was cycling through part of Belgrade through along river was nice. When we met in Greece you had a bike so just thought to let you know. I also have my bike and touring gear with me now. Have fun. Funny how close we were in California and now Serbia!

He made that comment right after Gabriel told him that he came from Croatia in croatian (Hrvatska). Before that he was provoking and acting like he has never heard of Kunas, Croatia or Ilok even though nobody would believe his bad acting since Ilok is just across the Danube river and Gabriel came from there on foot in an hour. It was blatant example of classic serbian hate speach based on serbian propaganda. You can tell that the guy who was exchanging money for Gabirel wasn't verry happy about rude interruption nor was anyone laughing at the alleged joke. Please don't make up unconvincing exuses for the man with glasses. Gabe: I came from Ilok. Ilok.
    Guy in the shirt: Euro?
    Gabe: Ilok. Croatia. Kuna.
    Guy in the shirt: Sweeden?
    Gabe: Hrvatska. Hrvatska.
Guy in the shirt: Nobody wants that. Throw it away. That bill (currency) does not exist. That country does not exist.
It is evident that the guy knew right away what Gabriel was trying to do and started to provoke him because he came from Croatia and wanted to exchange croatian Kuna to serbian Dinar. Very sad example of serbian chauvinism as a result of heavy censorship and propaganda in Serbia that is going on for generations.

Well, there's an obvious difference between Croatia and Serbia. When you asked that girl in Ilok about how to get to Serbia, she answered in the most polite manner in fluent english. When you mentioned Croatia in Serbia, the old guy felt the urge to inform you that the country or the currency you were mentioning, don't actually exist, as he sees it as a part of big Serbia. It would probably surprise you, but there is a lot of people over there that would respond in exactly the same way just at the mention of Croatia. You know, buildings are mostly nice, whether they're old, new, lavish or modest. People are mostly not. Enjoy the stay.

Man, hats off to your adventurous spirit. We only stayed in Novi Sad like half a day... it was raining really bad and the forecast wasn't good, so we decided to leave earlier than planned... it rained non stop for days all over Serbia... In May 2013 and June 2014, vast regions of Serbia and Croatia flooded... land mines that had not been visible or removed appeared in Croatian agricultural fields as the floods uncovered them.
The beautiful gothic style church in Novi Sad is a Catholic temple, if I remember well, its name is something like "Holy Name of Mary", and I think it's the largest church in Novi Sad... that was somewhat strange to us, because Serbia is predominantly Orthodox.
If you have a chance, go to Subotica... Stay safe!

My husband (Canadian born) and I (born in Novi Sad) visited two years ago.
He loved a restaurant called Fish Zelenish, and we had there what I would consider one of the best rakija I have tasted. It's from Kovilj Monastery made by the monks. The restaurant offered plum, and quince rakija. I highly recommend you trying those. The quince is amazing!
You can also visit the actual monastery once you get a car, it's about 30 min from Novi Sad. They have a tiny shop there where you can purchase plenty of goods made by the monks which don't just include rakija, but things like soap, and even CD's of them singing. It was a neat place to visit!
    Have fun!

Love all your travel videos. Have to admit you’re brave, specially to mention anything about Croatia in Vojvodina or trying to exchange kuna for serbian currency. Many from Backa Palanka were part of serbian invading force, soldiers that crossed the border and invaded Croatia, many of them never came back home. That’s why even after 30 years some of them are allergic even if you mention name Croatia. or Vukovar. It seems the only thing they do like from Croatia is Croatian money, although the old guy tried to say something nasty. Many of them have or used to have ID cards in Croatia, and are still using that fact to get some money from Croatia.
Nice Roman Catholic Church on the main square in Novi Sad.
Long before European Union, Vojvodina was functioning actually as European Union, had significant German, Croatian, Hungarian, Slovak, Ukrainian population etc.
A lot changed after I WW , but Vojvodina, Serbian autonomes region today, is still nice and the richest part of Serbia.

nekica m Good thing you admitted how you expelled more than 500 000 ethnic Germans - Volksdeutscher from Vojvodina and stole their land, houses, everything. Only Serbs were allowed to move in their homes, few Montenegrins, Albanians maybe, but no Croatians.
Croatians were autochthone, indigenous ethnic group in Vojvodina, along with Germans, Hungarians.
Today, very few Croatians are left, that are still living in Vojvodina. Therefore there are many Catholic Churches, now empty, as reminder who was living there, not so long ago. Croatians in Vojvodina are forced to name themselves Sokci, Bunjevci, and they live in fear every day.

Fact that he never spoke fluent Croatian, was covered with statement how he as a child would spend summers in Slovenia by his mothers family. After II WW, Tito and his bloody communist regime killed more 700 000 Croats and drove to exile 2 millions. So he worked in reality for big Serbia, agains Croats and Croatia. On the world list of worst killers in 20th century, he is occupying number 10.

I'm Serb but i know Senta still has big Hungarian population, it is cute little town. Serbs and Hungarians live peacefuly in Vojvodina, that province in general is perfect example of real multiculturalism. Serbia is open community and we respect all ethnic groups living here, we have dozen of recognized minority groups in Vojvodina, Bosniaks in SouthWest, Albanians and Bulgarians South/East, and it's enough to say that they can finish their whole education in their native language without being forced to use Serbian only, not even Western countries (that preach about freedom) allow to use other languages in state schools, or in the court and state institutions. At 11:14 you have street sign with Serbian, Croatian and Hungarian as equal, every municipality where you have recognized minority group will have their language represented everywhere, all this just show how media in 90s created false evil image of Serbs where in fact we are the only nation that kept it's multicultural enviroment after 90s wars.
