I know I am late watching your vids, so I am playing catch up. You guys knocked this out of the park. I would love to drive this to my local car show and to Somerset Kentucky in the summer for theirs.
Hey Buddy, thanks for the vid! You killed it! Great job for a first timer. Your video was just what I needed. My belt cost $79.29 with the Cdn HST included. I got it from Fern's Golf Carts, a local shop. Now I gotta get out there and get my hands dirty...
You don’t need to take off the fan nut, If you’re willing to take the deck off and stand the tractor on end. I was able to hand turn the pulley and push the belt in between the guards. Great video man!!! Big help!
AWESOME video! Thank You SOOOO VERY Much for making and posting this video! it REALY helped me to change the transmission drive belt on my 1987 troy-bilt yard tractor.
If I could do it all again and if you’re just replacing the belt, I would just use a socket and an extension to turn that pulley while feeding the new belt into the guide. I don’t think removal of that fan was absolutely necessary. Let me know if that works for you?
Hey man is this the upper or lower belt drive im looking up the belt but it shows upper and lower? I need to replace the one that goes to the gas pedal
My riding mower would not go up hills. A guy fixed it but the problem is back. He put a new belt on. Is there an adjustment to make it work to get tighter tension? Or do I need a new tensor spring
Hello, this is a very educational video. I just bought a Troy Built Bronco. 20 hp courage, 42" cut. Garage kept. Very nice mower. But it seems like it is going faster in reverse than in forward drive. I was thinking of starting with the drive belt. Would really appreciate any insight on this issue.
On my TB Super-Bronco: I had to loosen up the 3 bolts to the variable speed pulley assembly where the upper & lower belts run to get enough room to get the belts on / off. Also, instead of trying to take the heavy duty spring off (and back on) of the idler pulley for the upper belt, I rigged up a binder strap around the back of the tractor and compressed the spring that way to finish up the upper belt install. There's also a belt retainer screw & bushing that had to come off to get the old belt off, new one back on. It's accessible through a hole strategically drilled on the bottom 'skid' plate. Putting the mower deck back on was painful too until I shimmed up the front about 2", then was able to get the rear pins installed. All in all, what a pain to replace these belts, but I'm appreciative of this video, thanks.
I was giving a 46in horse troy bilt i got ot running then i tried to remove the deck to put a belt back on but i removed the pins and springs but didnt see where thay removed from please help i have most replaced but i have a big spring im not sure of
1 second ago Just figured out an easy way to remove hydrostatic transmission fan so you can get the belt off much easier. Take out the four bolts that build the body to the axle, put long 5/16 or quarter inch bolts in their place. Put a bottle jack under the trailer hitch Lift the body up in about an inch to an inch and a half and the fan will slide right off of the shaft.
@@dougchicknell1933 That's what I thought, but it's so insane I thought, maybe there is a trick I'm missing. Thanks so much for responding. I will make me feel better as I'm dropping the trans for the second time in two weeks.
Someone help, I cannot get the front pulley loosened so that I can lower it and put the new belt on. I use device grips but those don't grip tight enough for how tight this thing is on there, how did he use an impact wrench, why didn't the pulley turn???
When you loosened and removed the bolt from the fan in back, the bolt didn't move. Mine just keeps turning. Is yours a hydrostatic like mine? How do I stop the stud from turning?
If you’re just doing a replacement like me, I realized later that I don’t think I needed to mess with that fan. I was able to just spin the pulley while feeding on the belt to get it past the belt guides.
I put the belt on while the fan was still on.. Had a fiasco with the 2 pulleys then had to pull the long belt with a washer 4 hours I think I got it, have a whinning noise in neutral. But everything is working I think.
One question.... Befor u took of the front pulley, did u drain the oil in the engine? I have a 2017 troybilt bronco and I have seen videos where ppl take that front pulley off with no oil coming out. If I take it off of mine oil starts leaking as soon as I turn the bolt few times. Am I missing something?
Whoa, that’s strange. You shouldn’t get any oil come from the crank shaft. I’m not really sure where you’re getting oil from. I wonder if your lower crank seal is leaking oil into the top of the pulley and you’re getting some come out when you remove the bolt. What engine do you have? A Kohler courage?
great video, i was wondering on my tb, the lower transmission belt has a lot of slack, is this normal? it doesn’t matter whether i press brake pedal or not
As long as you don't lean it past like 90* of its normal orientation, you should be fine. Also leaning it rearward is typically fine. It's usually only an issue if you lean it too far towards the carburetor side of the engine.
Very good explanation!! Another good idea to do when the deck is off is to clean all the grass and debris from the top and bottom.. Deck fires do happen.. its not worth it to risk it.. I blow the whole tractor off after every mow.. sometimes in the middle of mowing.. it really helps a lot when doing jobs like this to have a clean working environment 😁👍🏼
Thanks MNpicker! Yea, people don’t realize that is what kills most mowers is a rotted deck. I usually combine the leaf blower and the air compressor to get them all good and clean.
Just as a reminder: at least for my TB mower the drive belt is 754-0467, BUT stay with the Troy Bilt brand. Why? Because some of the "generic" brands will not work well. The last one I tried was an improper fit can caused WAY TOO much resistance and work for the drive shaft.
so i got the new belt on and tried it around the yard with no deck......works fine now and is quieter......i do have a few concerns though......its not completely quieter but that might be normal......it also smells like burning belt.....the question i have is i put the belt inside the 2 post on either side of the engine pulley and wondering if that is correct?....maybe the belt goes outside of those posts?
Thank you Dan for the video, (my wife won't help me push the tractor, LOL). I have a question, maybe you can help me, Coincidentally, I recently changed the drive belt and I don't know if that will be the cause of my problem, I have a Troy bilt pony (2011), now I can only control the speed with the throttle lever, even when I put it in rabbit mode the motor goes at high rpm, but the ground speed is about half the normal speed; the (yellow on mine) speed control lever doesn’t work, it goes up and down without locking the notches, offers no resistance and does nothing. (however, the engaging of the parking brake action works fine). I opened up the mower and saw the yellow speed control lever attached to a connecting rod which is attached down there to the cupped metal piece in the correct position as the new Troy Bilt Pony I saw yesterday at Home Depot, but besides allowing to be put in in park position, I don’t see it attached to anything else, is it right? How does it regulate the speed if it is not connected to anything else? Thank you in advance.

No surging or vibrations anywhere. However,..as soon as I engage the deck the vibrations rattle the entire mower, and worse at high speeds. When I engage the Drive forward it will cut fine and pretty smooth except for the vibration of the deck. It seems the deck is not rigid from side To side and floats. This allows for a lot of vibration. When the mower is moving and the engine is running at medium speed the motor sounds fine. However the cutting deck “Surges” up and down in speed. There is no change in the drive speed,..just the deck. The change is constantly going up And down in speed. I took it to the warranty service center and they took a week to check it out and replaced the deck belt But could not find anything else wrong with it. Hey Buddy, my email is d_werling@live.com Initially thinking about it, I would remove the deck belt and make sure that your blade spindles move freely and make no strange noises. Also check all of your other idler pullies. The next thing I would check would be the physical condition of the blades. Make sure they don’t seem excessively worn, or most importantly, bent. Does the belt have a tensioner that you can see while the deck is engaged? See if it looks like the tensioner is moving back and forth a lot. The fact that the deck hangs like it does actually does a lot to reduce vibration. It’s like the motor mounts in your car. A decent Video, good pointers, but the mark of a good mechanic is one who keeps cleans his work area as he goes. Dan just slaps the dirty cutting deck with all the old grass and crud laying there right in front of him to pulled up into the works when starts it. I realze the deck will get dirty again when its used, but really - a mite of time to blow it clean before he reassembles it.

bugman971 use electric impact on engine drive pulley and the fan/rear drive pulley. And make sure you set an LOC the parking brake. That way you can actually install the belt and take it off very easily. It’s a 15 minute job with the correct tools
Great video but Audio is not good.
Put some boots on !!!
Can't hear .
You sound like Kevin Sorbo
Can't hardly hear him.
Good work buddy. Sound is iffy, but that’s to be expected. You can get a better set up when those sweet, sweet TH-cam bucks start flowing in.
Mr.G hey man! Thanks for the feedback! I’m definitely looking forward to upgrading my gear... right now it’s an iPad on a 3D printed base on a tripod meant for a laser level lol
Why in the world would you have a riding lawn mower for a lawn that tiny 🤣😂
The video may have helped folks that have had a riding mower for a while. However, this is my first riding mower and the video was way over my head. Way too much left un explained and nothing real helpful for the "newbie" Good Luck for the rest of the guys.
Speak up Dan, can't hear you!
