    @DanDoesDIY
    After accidentally ripping my awning while giving it a wash, it started falling apart while on our way to the campground. I didn't want to invest in a whole new awning replacement, so I started thinking about an easy but effective repair for my dried out, sun damaged awning. Please join me while we give flex seal a shot... Spoiler alert, it worked great and I'm sure it will work for you too!
    Thanks for Watching!

    After getting a quote for $750 for new 15' awning with install, we decided to give this a try. Literally just finished the first coat. Just like yours, awning was crispy. Camper is from 2010.

    Hi! I'm a girl with a 2003 26' prowler I purchased new. It's been in storage for years and now I've noticed some repair needs. I appreciate you sharing !

    May I suggest you buy some vinyl eavestrough and make a removable cover to preserve your hard work and awning.
    It works great for protection from the sun and weather when not in use or stored for the winter!
    NOTE: The eavestrough is not meant to be left on when traveling.
    It goes on in seconds! It snaps into the track just above the top of the awning and rolls around the awning, directing the rain down and away from the awning. The awning is completely hidden from the sun.😊 🇨🇦

    Might try a bit of periodic maintenance going forward. That roof and awning are just trashed from lack of attention.

    I'm going to have to try this. I noticed my awning is deteriorating at the top and I don't want to have to replace all that vinyl. Thanks for this!

      It held up pretty well until I sold the camper, but I would definitely do it again!

    We got home from our last camping trip, and our awning was peeled just like yours. I'm glad I happened on your video. I will definitely try this on mine. Thank you for making this video!

    Wow, I never thought of using Flex Seal for this. I just replaced the 18' fabric on my awning 2 years ago and it's already got little damage at the top from sun and limbs. I'm gonna do this to my top foot like you did. I even need to touch up a little 3 foot awning over my front bedroom window...it's delaminating and is more expensive than the big 18' wide tarp !! Thanks !!

    That awning looks great now. The roof looks horrible. You need to clean it and flex seal it

    • @asysz

    I would like to know how its holding up. I use flex seal on my rv roof. It was easy to apply but started getting cracks the first year. I followed instructions exactly. So I'm a bit negative about flex seal products. I wish this guy would give us up date.

    my awning is like this , its 19 foot long , i just thought it would be better to buy new fabric not real dear at $335 AUD , I changed it out in 2 1/2 hours looks new ,, The old awning fabric was real bad the Australian sun Kills them , I would have tried this but could only find "For Indoor Use Only "
    Will be interested to see in 24 months how she holds up ,,, I will be ready for new fabric again by then

    • @asysz

      It’s been great! Its very flexible and has done a good job of holding the awning together. I figured it was better than the replacement of a whole awning and if it didn’t work, I would have had to do that anyway. Give it a shot!

    Don’t waste your time on awning. Replace it! Clean and coat the roof. That is if it’s not leaking already 😮

    Nice job! Would like to know how the flex seal wears. I've heard different comments my different people. Good & bad. That area of the Awning gets all the sun and wind stress when out. Was thinking about using the Awning tape on my in the same area.

    • @asysz
      @asysz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flex seal was in great shape up until I sold it recently. The hard part about the awning tape is that it usually starts to fly off (poor adhesion). I liked the flex seal because it adhered to the fibers in the awning and stopped the outermost vinyl layer from tearing any further. Good luck with whichever solution you try though!

  • @fabiangomez357
    @fabiangomez357 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    my awning doesn't have the outer layers of vinyl attached anymore, it's just the fibers now, how could I repair the sections like this? I was thinking waterproof gorilla glue tape on the bottom, then do your method on the top exposed to the sun.

  • @herbdula3853
    @herbdula3853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also you should wash your roof every year..

  • @marcy5399
    @marcy5399 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    We just got a 89 camper a few days ago. It's got some water damage but overall we got a steal. Today we completely washed the awning front and back (super grimy) . The top edges and where the main sun exposure is (like yours) is much worse. We've got a tare and several thread barren areas with no vinyl left. I'm debating how to tackle this project the best, I may need to do a combo of your idea and use some vinyl RV repair tape for the really bad areas. I'm wondering if I can bleach out some of the stained underside vinyl. Thoughts?

    • @asysz
      @asysz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry getting to these so late. I found that a magic eraser worked great at removing the funk on the underside of mine. I also think your idea of using a mesh tape with the flex seal should work well to reinforce the awning. Let us know how it turns out!
