    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been working on my lower belt for 4 days off and on( I work till I get pissed off and give up). This video is the only one I’ve seen that shows the brackets and I really appreciate the way you showed how the hardware went back together on them. I think I might just be able to complete this job today!

      The same here! Working on it till I get pissed off. After checking many videos Mr. Doby had the same machine as mine. Took out most of the guess work.

    Out of all the videos I have watched in the last week to replace these two belts none of them showed the (two pulleys around 35 min part of this video) you just made my evening. If you lived close to me I'd buy you a case of beer. Thanks.

    Thank you thank you. I am not a mechanic by any means but I was able to do this replacement. Long story short, I tried using an after market belt from Lowes. Compared to the old belt it looked identical. IT WAS NOT. As you said in the video is not an option. GET OEM trust me the others won't work.
    I made several attempts to get after market belt to work. It was way too tight and the pedal did not move freely.
    I gave up on the other belt and got an OEM belt. I had this mower in working order in 15 minutes. When I tell you I spent way too much time fighting the belt I was at my wits end.
    I watched your video over and over and over again. My mower , as far as preliminary tests go, is running better than before. Thanks again. You are the man!!

    I'm getting my 2017 Bronco ready for snow blowing season and decided new drive belts would be a good idea. I used after market belts without a problem but your showing of the proper order of the spacers on the tension brackets was a life saver. I also wish I had seen how easy the body comes off before I started the job, you can bet I'll do it your way next time.

    Thank You so much Tom for making these videos! I purchased my Bronco new from Lowes in 2011 and is a 2011 model. I've had great success with it or maybe it's just luck, but it has been garaged kept the entire time and is in really good condition for its age. I have had those same original belts on there the entire time, and I figured it was about time to change them out before it left me walking. I ordered belts from Amazon (non oem) and as you would guess because you know what happened next. The belt was to tight and no matter how I adjusted the forward pedal linkage I could not keep the mower from creeping, but it did work so I cut the grass anyway because it needed it bad. While I was cutting, the first thing I realized right off the bat was that I was hauling ass, twice the speed as it should have. That thing took off and threw me back into the seat as if it was a top fuel dragster! So then I watched this video and you said that you have to use an oem belt. So I went to Lowes and bought a Sunbelt brand that was stamped oem with the same manufacture part number and changed the belt. Same thing happened again. So, I watched the video again and noticed the oem belt that you were using was an actual oem belt. So, I purchased my third belt and changed it out and bam! Problem solved. I failed to mention that before I installed it I measured and compared the Sunbelt oem belt to the Lowes belt and the Lowes belt was approx1.5mm thicker in belt height not width than the Cub Cadet belt. Wouldn't think it would make that much difference, but boy did it! So, I got to thinking, and if my thinker is working properly 1.5mm x 2 = 3mm per pully x 4 pullies is 12mm which would be approximately 1/2". That 1/2" is actually making the older belt tighter than the thinner belt therefore not allowing enough slop in the belt to stop driving the mower, or in this case allowing for it to creep. I am only leaving this detailed problem that I had is to back up your statement that "you have to use the oem belt" or some weird thinks would happen if you didn't, as I heard another tuber, can't remember who it was, but that was a textbook example of what would happen if you chose not to use the oem belt. I'm a huge fan of your channel and I look forward to your future videos, but I have plenty more to watch before then. Thanks again, I was just about to haul this thing to the shop and have no clue what that would have cost me of money that I need more than that shop would. This video definitely "was my dinner". 😁 😂

      The same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I purchased a pair of "OEM" belts ( they were packed in a GENUINE "Troy Built, MTD sleeve). I installed them (without lifting the body) in a 2005 MTD yardman mower, which I had replaced 10yrs earlier with non-OEM "Rotary" belts (worked like a charm for TEN YEARS). The "GENUINE MTD" belts off ebay ($38 for the pair) started doing FUNKY things like lurching ahead when put into gear. The takeaway from all of this is that to get OEM belts, you have to cough up at least $90. The quality of parts you buy today compared to 10yrs ago is a F**KING JOKE!! And beware of the fake "OEM" packaging, it will bite you in the arse 19 different ways!!!

    Just wanted to thank you for this detailed video.
    Yeah it's not an easy job at all. That top washer is a beast.
    I did this job pretty much the same way but through the deck (yeah I still have that washer and it's going back on soon). Did the replacement before my impact wrench purchase and it almost killed me!
    Man just know so far I've been searching for a Comprehensive video here for about 6 weeks on this subject. I have yet to find a good guide for the adjustment but do know how to do it. So far its trial by "tightness".
    Awesome job on a booger of a project and just a great video.

    Tom, you did a great job with this video, thank you.
    I recently changed the drive belt in my Troy bilt pony (2011), unfortunately, I didn’t see your video before, didn’t get the OE belt you recommend, I got the Sunbelt but I will be ordering the one you mention and replacing it again; the sunbelt belt is very tense now, not sure if that’s the way it’s supposed to be, I don't know if that will be the cause of my problem, now I can only control the speed with the throttle lever, even when I put it in rabbit mode the motor goes at high rpm, but the ground speed is about half the normal speed; the (yellow on mine) speed control lever doesn’t work, it goes up and down without locking the notches, offers no resistance and does nothing. (however, the engaging of the parking brake action works fine).
    I opened up the hood and saw the speed control lever attached to a connecting rod which is attached down there to the cupped metal piece in the correct position as the new Troy Bilt Pony I saw yesterday at Home Depot, but besides allowing to be put in in park position, I don’t see it attached to anything else, is it right? How does it regulate the speed if it is not connected to anything else?
    Thank you in advance.

    Just because you use "OEM" marked belts doesn't mean they are OEM. I just purchased a pair of "GENUINE OEM" belts off ebay and they worked like CRAP. I needed to replace a set of 10yr old "Rotary" (non-OEM) belts on my 2005 Yardman mower. I guess the ONLY way to get OEM belts is to pay $90 for the pair! Btw, "Taryl Fixes ALL" replaced all the pulleys, belts, variator bearings WITHOUT lifting the body and he used ROTARY belts, although his video is 7yrs old. I would say the quality of parts back then was MUCH, MUCH BETTER than it is now! FACTS!!

      I drill a one inch hole now and got rubber plugs to fill them
      I made a jig and mark it and hole saw, faster and cost customers less money

    • @TomDobyMowerRepair
      @TomDobyMowerRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gimme a minute to look back on it, you have to use the OEM belt, aftermarket belts wont work good cause theyre not exactly the same... even if theyre the same length

    • @TomDobyMowerRepair
      @TomDobyMowerRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      that should be a 9450467a belt, 91 inches, make sure its routed correctly, when you install it unset the parking brake and check it

    I don't suppose there is a drive belt slack adjustment in there anywhere.

      @@TomDobyMowerRepair I found one adjustment that really works ... a little quirt bottle of gas on the belts through the battery compartment while the belts were halfheartedly spinning. Before that, the rider would not move very much (even after two new belts were put on), so when I squirted them, they grabbed and spun like crazy. It would pull up a very steep bank with no problem.
      Then after it sat a while, it went back to not moving very much again. The reason I thought of applying the gas is because I treated the belts with belt dressing earlier and after that it really wouldn't move. It's like the pulleys and belts were coated with a teflon like slick from the belt dressing and the gas had a positive effect making them grip. I saw no signs of any oil leakage on the belt from the front engine pulley. Too weird. I thought belt dressing was a good thing to do.

      You only need to push the pedal down to go and then there's a button on the dash for cruise control and take your foot off of the pedal.
